Melissa Evans said:After quite a while, I revisited Aliens. For the first hour, absolutely nothing happens, and once the action finally kicks in, the cinematography is so poor that I simply gave up on it.

I barely scratched the surface of The Godfather Part II because, frankly, mobster stories just don't interest me.

I find Transformers unwatchable. I have a real issue with how the military is positioned as the central focus and how they are portrayed onscreen.

I tend to avoid movies starring Tom Cruise; in my opinion, he lacks genuine acting range and carries himself with an air of conceit. I’m staying far away from Operation Valkyrie and War of the Worlds.

War movies aren't my thing.

I'm not a fan of boxing films either; I haven't even made it past the five-minute mark of Rocky.

I haven't stumbled upon a Western that actually held my attention yet, but I suppose hope springs eternal.

I never finished watching Chicago. I always have to stop at some point because the whole musical aspect feels incredibly dull to me.

I actually walked out halfway through Terminator Salvation while I was in the theater. The filmmaking felt uninspired, gray, and completely devoid of creativity.

With The Simpsons Movie, I wish I had walked out of the theater immediately. It was so poorly executed and failed so miserably; it isn't even worthy of a single episode, despite there being an abundance of source material to work with.

I watched about five minutes of The Shawshank Redemption before turning it off. It didn't grab me, and I generally have no interest in prison dramas.

I steer clear of anything featuring Scarlett Johansson.

I find Quentin Tarantino's films to be unappealing and tedious.

Woody Allen's films fail to interest me.

I've never sat through The Prestige until the end; it strikes me as a rather dull movie about magicians.

I never managed to finish The Village by M. Night Shyamalan.

I make a conscious effort to avoid anything produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

Hmm, I'd say I agree with about 75% of that... quite an interesting perspective, actually. 👍
hiddenhound3 said:It strikes me as incredibly narrow-minded when someone claims they refuse to watch any film that carries an IMDb rating lower than a seven. 🤷

I certainly do. I find myself doing it quite frequently simply to satisfy certain social expectations. For instance, when I am sitting there watching one of those mindless, overly sentimental teen comedies with my cousin... what else am I supposed to do? 😍

Well said... honestly, just go find some old-school trash and you'll have a blast—I mean, some of these modern flops have ratings like a 1.6 on IMDb or something equally pathetic. Personally, I’d take genuine cult trash from the 50s or 70s over all this new Hollywood garbage any day of the week. Usually, I’m quick to flip the channel the second I see a rom-com, some teen comedy nonsense, or those so-called "true stories" (well, most of them, anyway)—not to mention this recent wave of "epic historical" movies, you know, like *Troy*.

Of course he did—Cronenberg is just far too good for that typical Hollywood crap.

Peter Reed70 said:Wait, what's the deal with hating on Speed? That movie is a freaking blast from start to finish! I haven't met a single person who thinks it's boring or bad.

That movie is absolute garbage... seriously... just drive, speed, drive, drive, drive... and that's the whole plot. It's easily one of the biggest pieces of trash released in the last thirty years—I mean, I don't know anyone who actually thinks that movie is good. Keanu Reeves? Please...👎
Quentin is basically just a guy who watched way too many cult classics growing up...and honestly, it feels like his whole mission in life is to recreate the stuff he obsessed over as a kid. Sometimes he nails it, and sometimes—well, not so much. He’s definitely not your run-of-the-mill Hollywood director. Is he some groundbreaking visionary with a filmography that demands deep academic study? Not really. But hey, since we're talking about him... there are some gems in there, but also some absolute disasters (I mean, "Speed"... give me a break). Honestly, the worst action flick since *Terminator 2: Judgment Day* (which, let's face it, will probably get a remake soon anyway). In a weird way, if you view his work as a deliberate tribute to B-movie trash, you could draw some parallels to that French director Luc Besson and his campy stuff—though, frankly, Quentin is lightyears better than him.

restlessranger30 said:Oh, there are just so many! 🤣 I’ll just list a few of those cult classics and heavy hitters that I haven't quite managed to sit through yet.

2001: A Space Odyssey. Good grief, I have started this movie three separate times and yet I have never actually finished it.

Citizen Kane—honestly, a bit of a snooze fest. 😢

Scent of a Woman—also pretty tedious if you ask me.

No Country for Old Men
Eyes Wide Shut
Saving Private Ryan

...plus a whole bunch of horror films that were simply too terrifying for me to watch until the end. 🤣

Well then, what *do* you watch? Honestly... "Where are my car keys?" "Honey, where's my lunch?" "Darling, have you seen my diamond ring?"

That’s just awful... Honestly, Warner Bros. has produced 4,759,609 better films than this.

Northern Exposure (1990-1995) in TV Series ·
The show is honestly incredible—it’s got some truly legendary episodes under its belt—but I have to admit, Chris kills the vibe for me sometimes with those pseudo-intellectual tangents of his... everything else about it is just fantastic...

neonheron11 said:It’s perfectly logical that Americans from that part of the country would root for the Yankees or the Red Sox, just like how Americans living in Buffalo or Sonte cheer for their local teams back home.🤷

It’s also totally normal for kids to get into a little scuffle over sports every now and then; there's really no need to make a massive deal out of it.

A few fools will always puff out their chests and clash regardless.

It reminds me of those old-school vampire societies—you know, the Crusaders, the Templars, and all that nonsense... organizations fighting for causes that died out centuries ago. Honestly, what a bunch of idiots...
rustyscout34 said:we all need to stand together against this kind of exclusion and prejudice—and even oppression, if necessary, 🤣. It won't get us anywhere; in fact, it’s just a massive roadblock to progress and any kind of productive growth, including cinematic creativity. If we didn't have directors and artists such as Park Chan-wook, Wong Kar-wai, Yoji Yamada, Ang Lee, Chen Kaige, Takashi Miike, Kim Ki-duk, and Sion Sono (not to mention the old guard!),.. the world would be deprived of truly masterful cinema, and us cinephiles would lose out on the kind of joy that our decaying West and America simply cannot provide. So, I'm shouting it from the rooftops: Cinephiles of the world (or at least this forum), unite! 👍

Oh, I could go on about that until sunrise.😁 Basically, Asian cinema is a godsend after the total poisoning of Hollywood...
Swedish cinema recommendations? in Movies ·
You could throw just about anything at him from the 50s or 60s—anything at all—and he’d still nail it... the guy was a straight-up maestro. Personally, I'd rank him right up there in my top three...
Morgan Rodriguez57 said:I'm pretty much...

For some reason, I find Western European cinema—specifically French and Italian films—to be the most difficult to sit through... Spanish movies are just okay...

Chinese films seem incapable of existing without those martial arts tropes, even when the plot and emotional beats actually catch you off guard... honestly, I really enjoyed "In the Mood for Love"...

I checked out "Elite Squad" mainly because I find Portuguese to be such a charming language... 🙂

Well, damn, what *have* you been watching then? That’s actually a minority—the stuff with fighting skills... but yeah, looking at what hits our streaming services and theaters these days, it’s no wonder people react that way... there isn't much to see unless you're hunting things down online... and even then, you have to actually know what to look for... and where do you even find the right info on what's worth downloading? It's a freaking loop. Personally, I don't mind—I'm an older guy compared to a 25-year-old watching this stuff—but today, man, for people who are genuinely interested but have no clue where to start... they're really stuck.

Is Michael Bay actually a bad director? in Movies ·
Michael Bay is really just a technician—a guy who takes the massive pile of cash he gets for every project and turns it into some "boom, crash, bang" spectacle, and that's basically it... He’s decent enough if you have a taste for that typical Hollywood garbage... otherwise, the stuff he makes is total trash, much like a lot of the junk coming out of Los Angeles lately.

I picked up an original DVD just two years ago, only to realize—to my absolute dismay—that the aspect ratio was stuck in 4:3.
Talk about a letdown!

Yeah—and remember back when W. Hill was actually producing great stuff? Now that was a seriously good movie.
