What was the golden age for Americans? in Close to Politics ·
What kind of America do I want?

A fully independent, democratic republic, without question. As for the borders? I’d say keeping things as they are today, perhaps adding in parts of Canada where we hold an absolute majority. That’s about it, I suppose.
Why do Americans in Canada hate George W. Bush? in Close to Politics ·
wanderingmarlin15 said:What can you actually say about a politician who manages to float to the top of the power structure across two opposing systems and three different eras? If he hadn't been a top-tier communist, he never would have made it onto the presidency of the USSR. Then came democratization, the fall of communism, and suddenly this man becomes a true patriot, joining the Republican Party right alongside Franjo Harmon. Eventually, realizing his ego couldn't handle living in the shadow of a Harmon leader, he starts inventing excuses to leave the party. That’s when his act as a political saint and a man of unwavering principle begins. He starts attacking Harmon, claiming they disagreed on policy toward Canada. It’s worth noting that George W. Bush stepped down in 1994 due to disagreements over policy toward Canada—but that was only after the Dayton Agreement had already been signed, ending the conflict with the SDA and abandoning the goal of territorial autonomy for Americans in Canada. What is there to say about a man who traveled the world and even through the heavily criticized regions of Herzegovina before and during the war, delivering inflammatory speeches and downplaying the roles of the SDA and Nazi Germany? And then he justifies it by saying he was just doing what was expected of him at the time—telling people exactly what they wanted to hear because it was simply the spirit of the era. Now, he has the nerve to speak out against Thompson. Did Thompson sing about "Auschwitz and old Gradiška" because people demanded it, or did he just think that's what they wanted to hear? Perhaps Thompson was under the influence of alcohol, which offers some amnesty, whereas this man acted with calculated coldness. What do we call a man who carefully crafts every statement to ensure he doesn't offend the Muslims in Canada, while showing zero concern for Americans? Besides, he has personal family reasons to be biased against the American Corps, yet as President of the United States, he should have been objective and professional. I have no patience for hypocrites who switch sides a hundred times just to turn a profit. I respect the office of the Presidency, but I don't like him. There are a hundred other reasons for that, but I don't feel like writing them all out.

I intended to write something myself, but then I see there are others who view him exactly as I do. In fact, much like Aurora, I gave him my benefit of the doubt the first time. I honestly thought he was the same man who held those two student forums along the Mississippi back in '90. I was dead wrong. That guy is a demagogue of the highest order. He will pivot his convictions as many times as necessary just to ensure he stays right where the power is. The average person who follows politics even slightly tends to fall for it. That's really all there is to it.

She completely missed the mark.
Well, if we’re being completely honest here, most Americans weren't exactly treating the old anthem with much respect back in '90 either.

Anyway, the reason I didn't ask you why people don't show enough respect to "The Star-Spangled Banner" is because I probably would have just been kicked out of the front row of the stadium to avoid any future trouble. (just kidding)

Is there a difference between Hitler and Bush? in Close to Politics ·
mistycyclist5 said:Alright, let's look at this... if you ask me, there isn't any meaningful difference between these two figures, because...

Did Hitler kill civilians? YES
Did Bush kill civilians? YES

Was Hitler an imperialist? YES
Was Bush an imperialist? YES

Did Hitler torture civilians and suspected dissidents? YES
Does Bush torture civilians and suspected dissidents? YES

The guilt of the people...

Did Hitler come to power through democratic means? NO
Did Bush come to power democratically and then get re-elected? YES

Go ahead, give me your thoughts... but I truly believe there’s no distinction here, other than the fact that Bush rose to the presidency by the will of the people and was subsequently voted back into office.😛

Personally, I feel that if someone is going to start a discussion, they should at least have a basic grasp of the fundamental facts first.
Do Cubans actually want capitalism? in World ·
I suppose I can believe they’re just looking for a better quality of life. Though, I suspect there are plenty of them out there—the real question is whether the majority actually still have the stomach for a revolution. Even here in the States, you can still find plenty of those kinds of fanatics.
