Visa Prepaid Refresh card in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
neongull81 said:So I just picked up my new card and tried to link it to PayPal, but the site keeps telling me it won't work because the issuing bank rejected it. 😕 Anyone have any clue what’s actually going on here?

Edit: I guess this kind of headache is just part of life here, honestly. I’m actually at the local Chase branch right now picking up the card and I just loaded some cash onto it so I could try to verify the account, but when I called customer service, the guy told me the deposit hasn't cleared yet. I don't really get it... you'd think a cash deposit at the teller would hit the account instantly, right?

I mean, what do you think—does the lady at the teller window actually know which specific account to dump the cash into? 🙂 In my experience, they gave me an account number for the transfer that was basically just the general bank routing info, while the number they call for the actual card is different, so then the bank has to manually move the funds over to the card sub-account. Later, when I checked my digital statement in my inbox, I saw there’s actually a dedicated card account number you can send money to directly—it looks something like 2500009-2xxxxxxxxx. Anyway, honestly, you might just want to hit up the nearest ATM and check your balance to see if the funds have actually landed yet...
Applying for a loan while living abroad in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Karen Rodriguez4 said:So, I was reading that mortgage rates overseas are sitting somewhere around 2%, while here in the States they’re hovering closer to... what, 8%? That’s like four times higher—which is just wild. Honestly, it feels like it would be such a no-brainer to grab a loan abroad just to pay off this whole "green energy" mess we're stuck with, you know? Just to have a much smaller monthly payment to worry about. I mean, I guess I’m not entirely sure if those 2% rates are actually real right now, though... Does anyone here happen to know the deal? Anyone got any actual experience with getting loans from outside the country?

Oh, come on, you definitely have an account! I mean, how else would they track all your transactions? It’s just that since there aren't any fees, it feels totally "invisible" to you. But seriously, if I were to walk into their branch tomorrow, what kind of paperwork would I even need? Like, just my driver's license and Social Security number, or is it more complicated than that?
ATM issues/locations? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·

About a year ago, right after I updated my PIN, there were a few times where I accidentally typed in the old one, and the system kept insisting the PIN was incorrect every single time.

Man, it’s pretty hard to say for sure what happened without being there—but one thing is for certain—if you put in the wrong PIN, you aren't getting any cash out of an ATM.

Anyway, whose ATM were you using?

I was at an ATM and inserted my Visa, but just as I went to hit the first digit of my PIN, my dog suddenly lunged because he saw another dog passing by, and I ended up hitting the wrong button. In that split second of chaos, my immediate thought was to just mash two more random numbers so the machine would throw an "incorrect PIN" error, giving me a chance to start over with the right code.
However, to my absolute shock, the screen told me I could withdraw $33. 😲
It’s glaringly obvious that I somehow accessed someone else's account. 😲
I basically could have walked away with $33 from a total stranger. ☕
I finished the transaction, took my card, put it back in, entered my actual PIN, and withdrew my own money like nothing happened. 😲

My question is, in a situation like this, is it actually possible to trace who withdrew those funds?
Honestly, if there had been ten thousand dollars in that account, I probably would have done exactly what I did, though I realize most people wouldn't be so blunt about it. 🤷

On a separate note, I much prefer doing my withdrawals inside a Chase branch rather than dealing with an ATM anyway.

The only thing that's obvious here is that you've got quite the imagination!
Don't sweat those other people's accounts, though—you aren't gonna pull a single cent out of them anyway... 😁

how much is the other bank charging you just for using their ATM?

Oh! And don't forget the cut that goes straight to the card networks (like Mastercard or Visa)!

jadewalker47 said:Lavica02, maybe explain what you mean by that? Because I'm literally planning on opening an account at Goldman Sachs right now (since I need that Intel card), and I'm totally lost on what that whole thing with the IRS would even mean?

and, uh, kill me if I'm wrong—if I open a USD account (which is basically like a foreign currency account, but in dollars), is that the same thing as a checking account, or is there some kind of difference? 😁

I guess I just need an account where people can actually send me money, so which one should I end up opening? 😕

What it boils down to is that the IRS has eyes on everything moving through your transaction accounts—you know, your standard checking accounts—because those are used for income, and well, income gets taxed (though how much depends on what kind of money we're talking about, I guess). And whether it's a domestic dollar account or a foreign currency account, they're all essentially the same deal.
I mean, I guess the whole point of it is just making sure the host doesn't get totally screwed over—like, they should at least get some of that lost revenue back if someone cancels last minute or just ghosts them entirely...

crimsonraven17 said:It also strikes me as rather peculiar that one transaction was processed on December 27th while the second didn't occur until the 31st. One would assume that if someone were actually attempting to steal, they would drain as much as possible in a single go, rather than casually returning four days later to repeat the act. Besides, I cannot be expected to constantly monitor my Mastercard online, and my bank doesn't send SMS alerts for these types of charges—they simply provide a monthly statement once the damage is already done.

Major banks have entire departments full of people whose whole job is watching for sketchy activity, and they can totally freeze your card the second they see something weird. I mean, seeing a card get used way more often than usual could definitely be one of those red flags that triggers an automatic block.

They hit you with those fees because the sender’s bank asked to split up the transaction costs—honestly, next time just tell the person sending the money to cover the whole thing so you don't get squeezed like that!

If you're looking to open an account in Austria, all you really need is a passport. Just a heads-up though, banking fees over there can be way higher than what we're used to back home.

Anonymous said:I recently "launched" my own business, but honestly, I’m a little lost on the actual logistics because my accountant handled all the heavy lifting. From what I gather, you basically need to set up a business bank account and register everything with the IRS... as for the rest, I'm still figuring it out 😳

Wait, so we're talking about a company that hasn't even started operating yet?

I mean, I’ve heard people bring up the whole idea of a dormant company a million times, but honestly? I don't think that’s even a real thing. When I think about what actually keeps a business running—like, the stuff you're constantly shelling out for—it's more like monthly payroll processing fees and those pesky $18 dues to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Man, I totally feel this—though, okay, full disclosure, I don't remember everything quite that vividly! My brain isn't *that* much of a hard drive, haha. But honestly? The thing that really gets under my skin is when people are being fake or just straight-up lying. It’s just so weird, you know? Like, most of the time, being dishonest doesn't even benefit them, it just makes them look super shady in my book.

I mean, I feel like it’s totally fine if you run into someone out in the middle of nowhere—like, you just give a little nod or a quick hey—but when people start acting like it's some kind of crowded sidewalk where everyone's constantly swarming up and down the trails? That just feels kinda off to me, honestly...

From what I've gathered, an LLC doesn't even need to have a single employee on the payroll. And honestly, if you really wanted to make it look official—which, hey, maybe you do!—there’s a super easy workaround: just hire your grandma or your little brother for like, one measly hour a week. It would "cost" the LLC $167 per month.
