I was just confused about where the thread went—since I couldn't find it and I thought the mods said they were going to pull it—but I guess we've cleared that up now.

Thanks for being patient... honestly, it was just about one inappropriate photo, but there's no point dragging this out any longer. We're good.

hollowtrucker77 said:Yeah,
the thing is, once you drop a post on a site like Reddit, you can't suddenly claim ownership and demand they delete it, try to charge you for using it, or start banning people from quoting you...
that post belongs to Reddit.
but, if I or anyone else actually published a book or ripped off your post and passed it off as our own work, you’d have every right to sue us for copyright infringement, because at the end of the day, it's your creation.

Thanks for clarifying. That makes sense.

What happens to posts, images, or threads once they’ve been moved to private archives or deleted entirely?
If something shows up in a search but looks like a deleted thread, does that mean they just moved it to a different section?

Is there an actual rule regarding this? As far as I know, the only guideline is that old threads shouldn't be bumped or commented on, yet some of the newer mods seem to issue bans for it almost instantly.

briskmoose90 said:Look, don't post photos online unless you truly don't care where they end up. Once they're out there, you lose control. At the very least, stick to boring, non-compromising shots that don't reveal anything personal.
If you're such a privacy fanatic but you have a Facebook profile packed with 500 photos and you're constantly uploading stuff to various forums, I don't get the meltdown when something eventually leaks.
Sure, someone else might be the one who leaked it, and they might not have had the right to. But when that photo lands on a site it shouldn't be on, is it really the idiot who leaked it that's responsible, or is it you for putting it out there in the first place?

It clearly wasn't about respecting "copyright" here; this was about something else entirely... some other kind of shady business, even if everything looked perfectly legal on paper.

we all have that one acquaintance who is...
yet somehow nobody ever specifies who this "someone" actually is or which specific group we're talking about
and honestly, how exactly do you expect people to react when you won't even say who the target is?

Personally, I was addressing two specific points—first, protecting user data from problematic moderators (and we’ve already established there are plenty here), and second, the unequal application of the rules between mods and users. If users aren't allowed to comment on moderator actions or other people's warnings and bans because it violates policy, then the exact same standard should apply to them.

Regarding the leaking of private information, that matter is settled for me, which is why I didn't name anyone; both moderators have been replaced and are former staff now, and the damage done can't be undone...

As for the other issue (scenarios where a moderator discusses someone's ban, warning, or persona, etc.), I can't post certain Prime Minister's messages publicly here since, as far as I know, that isn't permitted. Those messages explain quite clearly what is happening and why the moderator acts the way she does (why she's being subjective, rude, or unprofessional). However, I can find the posts or comments I'm referring to and send them to you via DM, or you could forward those DMs you still have saved that relate to this...

P.S. Some people on this thread felt it was necessary to bring up N'dugi for whatever reason, so I'll just take this opportunity to say that, in my opinion, he was an okay moderator (for a while, at least) and an exceptional debater...

The fact that things ended up the way they did happened for other reasons and is unrelated to the moderator misconduct I am discussing here....

Eric Newman75 said:I'm honestly just hijacking your thread to say that Mortitia has incredible legs. No offense intended, I'm just sitting here watching the game with a drink in my hand. Hopefully she isn't watching it either. 😍

🤣 Morticia won because she has the longest legs—she's nearly 6'3", so that's why. We actually ended up deleting some photos that were pretty stunning back when those "fan clubs" were starting to form on Reddit 😉 and things like that...

On topic—what I'm actually wondering about is whether mods are allowed to give out a user's IP address to someone else. Is that even something that's permitted?

boldwalker12 said:Look, regarding Grazio, it’s not even about an uploaded photo; it’s just a link to the specific thread where she used to post them. So, if that thread actually got nuked, then all of us moderators are basically flying blind without our badges on. 😬

The only way this becomes an issue is if there's some rule against linking back to archived threads... 🤷

What link are you talking about? I was referring to an actual photo posted by a moderator—someone who isn't even on the team anymore after being kicked out (though that wasn't because of my photo or anything related to the issues I had with them there, among other things). I mean a photo, not a link to a thread.

Also, people were being handed out certain IP addresses that they shouldn't have cared about, all while the moderators were debating the reasons behind someone's ban and so on (and I'm just now realizing all of that is considered forbidden practice here).

I swear, I misspelled her name twice—she completely drove me up the wall. And me? The guy who never makes a mistake? It’s embarrassing. Honestly, I'm just taking one for the team at this point. 😬

Don't think I'm falling for those obvious tricks of yours,🤣 don't you worry 😉 :not jealous:

Is there any point in even attempting to replicate such an icon? kaže:
It won’t fly. The first thing I was told when I stepped into a moderator role was that you never, under any circumstances, hand out IP addresses. If it’s true that a mod actually leaked someone's info, that’s a major breach of privacy and should trigger an immediate removal process.

Thanks, Susan Price30, that’s exactly what I was thinking.👍 But how does one actually prove anything when the evidence itself is exactly what everyone is looking for?

Is there anything more profound than the silent weight of poetry? One must wonder if we truly listen to what the soul is trying to say. kaže:
I know how it goes. Two at once. Email.Once, just once. ip.

And I know that leaking private info is basically everyone's favorite pastime—especially the moderators.

I feel exactly the same way.

p.s. Susan Price30, that thread about legs wasn't deleted! Everyone on the forum can still see it just fine. 😁
edit: dustycrane8, I finally wrote out an explanation for you! 😁

Oh, come on. 😱

If I recall correctly, Dee mentioned back then that the whole topic would be moved or wiped entirely... (I'll definitely double-check with him later.)

*Aside from that, I only deleted one single photo of those three, that's all there is to it. 😉

Do you seriously think it’s okay to drag up topics from several years ago? And I mean, watch it now—not just things people forgot, but... Deleted. What's on your mind? Any topics?

I guess this is just someone trying to flex their identity or something.

I don't even know why you guys are suddenly jumping on this. 😕

If you go ahead and post a photo of yourself on Reddit, you might as well kiss your privacy goodbye right then and there. I guess it's just common sense. 🤷
So, what, if you post a photo on Reddit, I'm just not allowed to grab it and repost it on some other forum? 😕 Who exactly is defending you right now? Everything you’ve posted on Reddit—just like what Kate Foster12 said—is the property of the site. That includes your profile picture. It doesn't matter which section of the forum you uploaded it to (though I guess PMs are a different story).

Maybe Jason Morgan just phrased things a bit clumsily and ended up including the entire internet in her statement! But look, if some brat is out there posting half-naked selfies on top of a washing machine...🤦She posted it right on her own Facebook profile, so there’s really nothing to complain about. One day, she’ll just have to deal with Google's search engine popping that photo up whenever someone searches her name. 🤷 She posted a photo under her own name and then deleted it, but the picture didn't actually go anywhere. I mean, stuff doesn't just vanish from the internet like that. There are probably thousands of people out there saving copies just waiting for the chance to repost them out of pure spite. And there’s nothing you can do about it legally. Honestly, the same thing applies to Reddit.

Point one: my photo does NOT belong to this forum. 🤣
Point two: removing posts, edited images, or similar "minor details" from a deleted thread goes against the rules of this board.

Point three: something as harmless as replying to an inactive thread—you know, bumping a topic from years ago—gets moderators treating it like a major rule violation.

So, what exactly falls under point number two?

Kate Foster12 said:Anything you post on Reddit becomes the property of Reddit, not yours.

Let’s look at an analogy: suppose you wrote something in some random thread three or five years ago—is it really okay for a moderator to dig that up and parade it around just because they have the power to? Seriously.😁

The photo in question was just a picture of my feet, so it's not like anyone is going to identify me based on that, 🤣, but this is about principle. It's about whether we follow the rules or if we tolerate mistakes whenever a Moderator decides to slip up.

Just think about it... how "infallible" and fair are they actually? Even the Pope isn't perfect.🙏

Jason Morgan said:Once you put a photo out there on the internet, the game is over. Period. Maybe 476 people on Reddit saw it, and maybe they decide to repost it just as easily. If you actually have a grievance against someone specific, then quit being vague—tell me who, what, and where.

Well, I already explained the who and the where 😁, but I'm not naming names here... honestly, I'm just surprised you think this behavior meets any kind of social standard or basic etiquette 🙏

Eric Newman75 said:I used the term "Reddit user," not "moderator." And look, moderators are just users too, so it stands to reason everyone deserves privacy when it comes to their personal business. I honestly don't see why people feel the need to dissect who's sleeping with whom or who's struggling financially. It's just unnecessary.

Anyway...

... if they had to dig through the archives, that means you posted it yourself. Just be more careful next time.

The issue isn't my lack of caution; rather, it's that the community contest thread (which existed on a different sub-forum a few years back) was actually deleted to protect user privacy once the competition ended.

So, there isn't anyone digging through archives (or wherever) to repost a photo from a deleted thread. There's certainly no reason to post it in a completely different thread years later—unless someone is just doing it because they can.😉

(By the way, the photo had even been edited 🤦—some detail was messed up)

And this brings us right back to the core problem with these threads: double standards.
Doxing on the forum in Feedback & Suggestions ·
^What about defamation by the moderators?

Or the leaking of private information without any consent from the users here.

(One moderator actually posted my photo on a thread without asking me, digging through archives just to find it.)

We also know of an instance where someone hijacked a username and posted work belonging to another active female user, yet that first person didn't even get a permanent ban—even after the original author explained everything regarding the identity theft.

How are basic user rights actually being protected here? That is a legitimate question.

Or are we looking at double standards again? Which is basically the point of this discussion—those rules preventing us from commenting on their work or their character anywhere except in one "designated spot" are just there to cover their own backs.

The users can never truly push back because they can't always prove certain irregularitiesin black and white. So, it turns out you really have to be extremely careful with your private info, email addresses, and the like, because there are all sorts of moderators (or former ones) around. Every user should be protected from such problematic or malicious moderators. Honestly, given the size and importance of this forum, people like that shouldn't even be moderators in the first place.

Joseph Watson3 said:Every single time I see him lock a thread, it feels like watching a tiny digital orgasm. Putting someone at the top of the forum who gets off that hard on their own authority is... a questionable move.

That was actually minor compared to seeing him lock a thread right under our noses. It felt like he was just poking the bear, especially with the former Spirituality mods already being totally fed up. From an outsider's perspective, it looked like massive virtual self-indulgence.

Or just straight-up mocking Rob-Roy from Religion—who is an all-around great contributor here—all happening on the KZB, naturally, and all coming from that same guy.

Take, for instance, that ridiculous ban you received for 😁

I am certain Tyadall (or whatever the name is) will handle this properly, much like the last time when someone was being incredibly rude and insulting Christians in a discussion about National Geographic.
It’s on the exact same level as what happened above, if not worse.

Kevin Gonzalez79 said:PL does an excellent job moderating the World section, and frankly, he deserves credit for that. He stays well-informed about global affairs, which is clear because he doesn't live in the US; let’s be honest, our local media outlets provide pathetic coverage of international events unless something reaches a level of extreme importance.

However, Powerlock has completely detached himself from domestic affairs. He views them through a telescope from the United Kingdom (in fact, he once mentioned he’s fed up with the US, which was his reason for leaving). Because he isn't physically present, he simply cannot grasp the public pulse through the media or even via this forum. When it comes to domestic topics—especially those where he engages in debate—he is incredibly biased and uninformed, having lived in the UK for 15 years.

Global diplomacy rotates diplomats every four years for this exact reason: to prevent them from becoming detached from their home country or becoming too cozy with the host nation. After a four-year term, every diplomat returns to their homeland for at least two years before accepting a new mission. I believe we should implement a similar rule for moderators handling domestic politics. If we don't, we will see further fragmentation and users migrating to other forums due to the heavy lack of objectivity from the PL moderator, who is clearly disillusioned with the US anyway.

This line of reasoning is on par with the famous: 'atheists shouldn't moderate the Religion or Spirituality subforums'—it's a somewhat nonsensical "argument," and frankly, quite rude.

Does being an atheist actually impact one's ability to judge what constitutes trolling, a violation of subforum rules, or who is a troll versus a clone? Or does one's personal worldview somehow imply a bias against believers or a lack of knowledge regarding the subjects discussed in those subforums? Those who claim atheists shouldn't moderate religious sections clearly believe that they do.

It seems to me you are making a similar claim here regarding the moderation of Politics; you are using the same (strange) criteria to measure competence or suitability.

If my habit of calling out people who "spin" things or twist facts bothers you so much, here's a tip: go read some fluff pieces on a lifestyle blog instead. Maybe find a sub-forum meant for lonely hearts and sensitive souls. That seems more your speed.

Calling out distortions is perfectly normal in political discourse. If we start banning people from pointing out when someone else is twisting the truth—especially when they back it up with actual evidence—then this whole politics section is going to be a ghost town.

By the way, I’ve noticed a sudden wave of attacks against slybison8. It's pretty obvious his views are rubbing some people the wrong way. Apparently, it’s "unacceptable" to them that a Moderator on the Politics board isn't affiliated with the HNS, doesn't scrub posts in the thread about Josipovic, and chooses to express clear political opinions rather than just policing the board.

Just a friendly reminder: we live in a democracy where people are allowed to have opinions.

If his opinion is that your arguments are nothing more than blatant fabrications—and he provides proof to show why—who is this "super-admin" or god-tier moderator that's going to step in and stop him?

The whole point of a forum is the clash of ideas and the decent discussion that comes from it.
The days when you couldn't call out someone for claiming Marshall was a legend, or for using lines like what Balasevic calls "the greatest beast of our nations," are long gone. Technology brought forums into our lives and changed everything. We've moved into an era where liars can try to twist things, but everyone else has every right to call them out on it.

So, quit trying to play "protect the princess" and actually join the fight with logic. Let the readers decide who's lying and who's spinning. Defend yourself with solid arguments instead of cheap insults or trying to defame someone just because they told you your dad is bigger than yours.

And leave slybison8 alone. He's one of the few guys on this forum whose recent posts I actually bother to read. And from what I hear, I'm not the only one. Given how certain newspapers have a habit of lifting his posts and publishing them under their own names, it seems pretty silly to attack a guy who clearly reaches a much larger audience than the people he's calling out for lying.

Do yourself a favor: try using some real reasoning and see if you can reach that level.

All The Best

Instead, we mostly just see people attacking the Moderator and making personal jabs at him on these threads. Instead of. His statements or his stances. 😉

Does "Ay Carmela" bother you? Is this the original text? Oh, for heaven's sake, the paranoia is real. 🤣
You certainly picked quite a topic to be ashamed of.👍 It’s a blessing that democracy offers us so many choices.

Moderator, please focus. These kinds of "us versus them" categorizations are completely pointless for several reasons.

Look, I don't feel like getting into a fight with the Moderators. I just want to apologize to you for making such broad, inaccurate generalizations about San Francisco.

It seems like there’s been a sudden surge in aggressive trolling lately—mostly people acting out in the LGBTQ+ threads. It’s become quite predictable: they resort to the same old personal insults and targeted harassment, always aimed directly at Powerlock, of course.😁

And then, naturally, this whole thing just ends in an anticlimax.🙏🙏

I'm loving it. What are those people who keep bragging actually thinking? When it comes to landmarks like Isusek, they clearly don't realize just how much incredible wealth they're living on and enjoying. Ungrateful, blind, pathetic fools—people with no identity and absolutely no roots..

Are those people really going to act all high and mighty just because of that Isusek statue? It was clearly aimed at a few of us on that thread who were joking around about how a potential statue on Marjan would become a major tourist attraction. In reality, it was a bit of a dig at me, since the post being replied to featured my own comment about it becoming a "tourist attraction."

That's all I have to say about that.☕ Sometimes it feels like people are just taking advantage of the good intentions of the Politics moderators, especially PL, because Liso has spent way too much time relentlessly trolling... only to act like they're "outraged" afterward. It's ridiculous.

goldenscout14 said:I honestly believe it’s much more sensible if certain—and I want to emphasize, *certain*—subforums are moderated by individuals who aren't deeply emotionally invested or personally biased regarding the topics being discussed there. Otherwise, objectivity? It's essentially gone, goodbye. No matter how hard they try to remain neutral, it’s an uphill battle. It’s ultimately futile.

Just because someone has lukewarm views or doesn't hold strong opinions doesn't mean they'll be a weak moderator (we've seen 😁 happen way too many times).

Then you get those types who have very set opinions and express them "without compromise," yet they turn out to be surprisingly mild and tolerant mods—often alongside a popular one.

There aren't really any hard rules here... I suppose what actually defines a high-quality or popular moderator is simply being skilled and professional enough to separate their own personal preferences from the job of maintaining order on the Reddit. Or the admin, I guess.
