The start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (Part 1) in War in Ukraine ·
Douglas Davis4 said:Have you seriously not seen the massive lines of people from the EU practically begging to move to China or Russia? Open your eyes.

Man, I wouldn't even go there as a tourist.

I’m leaning toward the latter, mostly because I’ve got this nagging fear that he actually thought NATO was going to step in and fight his battles for him instead of just sending supplies.

He didn't think that—politics happens behind closed doors.
Basically, the US specifically laid everything out for him.

His whole goal now is just luring Russia into a trap.

is the delusion that the world still revolves around the West. It doesn't.
We’re seeing a clear break from Western cultural, political, and economic dominance.
Just as the Middle East was our primary focus, the rest of the world sees this conflict in America's backyard as secondary.
America is rapidly becoming a peripheral player on the global stage while the center of gravity shifts toward the East.

Give me a break.
Think about what actually makes up "Europe" and why it’s arguably the best place on Earth.

Maybe they're just planting agents that locals pick up and hide away.
Plus, all that tech gear being dropped off for comms and stuff...

It's the second most powerful military on earth, led by some KGB-style thug, going up against pro-Western, cultured people who picked an actor to lead them and never expected this kind of sick, brute aggression.
The Russians are playing themselves like total idiots. This KGB-wannabe they worship is going to cost them everything.

Right now, it’s mostly special forces taking the hits (especially those strikes on the capital and government hubs)—at least on the Russian side, whereas on the Ukrainian side, everyone's in the thick of it.
And honestly? The Ukrainians managed to take back control of that hydroelectric plant on the Dnieper, and the workers just went right back to business as usual.

Basically, what we're seeing from the Russian side looks like small paratrooper drops moving alongside armor... though I'm guessing those are just reservists being sent into enemy territory to get ambushed.

Zelensky isn't interested in sitting at the negotiating table yet
The Ukrainians need more time to properly gear up and coordinate... meanwhile, the Russians have been training for months and rolled in high on adrenaline and ready for action
The Russians aren't going to get the easy win they expected

The Ukrainians actually managed to shut down those special forces trying to take the city—even the Russian minister admitted as much.

Heavy armor is just sitting out there waiting, though nobody’s even sure if they’re actually moving in. If they do, we all know what kind of "victory" that looks like.

Arthur Watson4 said:I get the impression they were just bracing for an attack from the east, thinking the Russians would try to grab all of Donbas and stop right there.

But honestly, did you really think they stood a chance at defending anything from the south?

There's a scenario, but it's... pricey.
And the damage would be massive.

Dam raising (basically blowing them up) on the Danube to flood everything in the south.

Arthur Watson4 said:The Dutch sent 200 units.

If there's any silver lining here, it's that everyone finally decided to step up with weapon shipments. I guess they realize it's useless if they don't act.

The Czechs are sending stuff too.

They need exactly that kind of hardware
Honestly, I'm surprised they didn't realize this sooner—or maybe the Americans just haven't spelled it out for them yet.

Those helicopters are basically "come get me" signals.
Literally. ☕

Ashley Ramirez4 said:I mean, they'd need training for that—they'd have to send troops too, but they aren't gonna do that.

Low-flying missiles should do the trick.. enough as it is
Just look at how the Russians are handling things—trying to pull off this "lightning war" tactic.

And honestly? It's not even working... plus, imagine if they actually had to go up against NATO.

They’re being totally out of line about everything... just calculated moves.
We should be sending them anti-air tech to knock those helicopters out of the sky instead.

Don't sleep on the National Guard.
I highly doubt some paratroopers would stand a chance at rolling into small towns and playing hero in someone else's backyard.

Carl Lee27 said:I have to say, I'm feeling pretty strongly that they actually *do* care about the timeline, especially seeing how much they've been hammering Kyiv lately. Just look at that whole paratrooper operation near New York City—that was clearly supposed to kick the doors wide open for their armored units so they could quickly set up some kind of puppet government.
The way things are playing out now, though, it looks more and more like they're headed straight for a brutal war of attrition.

Looks like Putin is calling the shots himself instead of letting generals run things from a desk.
Right now, Kyiv is the whole game—it's everything for the Ukrainians.

Paul Rogers94 said:They discovered that living a Self-sufficient lifestyle is nothing more than an impossible fantasy—even Thoreau eventually crawled back to civilization right after finishing his book. Escaping the madness of modern society isn't achieved by fleeing into some imaginary daydream; personally, I think chasing those delusions is a recipe for disaster if you actually try to live by them. At the end of every fantasy, there should be a functional way to live—but in practice, that fulfillment just doesn't exist.

But what if those phantom projections were actually just a stage of evolution?

I feel like every philosophy out there... is just an author projecting their own version of the world based on their ideas.

The most basic level is just... meeting needs and satisfying them.
Then there's the whole thing where Western society basically manufactures neurotics... or whatever.

wanderingridge said:More time for yourself? Seriously? I know plenty of folks out in rural America who don't have a single second to themselves because they're constantly planting, digging, weeding, harvesting, tinkering—you're working from sunrise to sunset just to scrape together a handful of vegetables to eat. And don't even get me started on wood heat; you're chopping, prepping, hauling logs... it's endless.

It all sounds absolutely wonderful and idyllic on paper, but in reality? It's nothing like that.

Spot on.
