Do We Know Anything At All!? in Spirituality ·
frozenangler9 said:And do you even have a definition for anything? (Seriously, anything at all? 😬 )

So, what's your take, Professor? Huh??? 😍

I'll get my chance to say what I think in person. 😉
Right now, I'm just gathering everyone else's perspectives so I can be better prepared. 🙂

Does anyone have a different take on what New Age actually means?
If not, I guess I’ll just have to settle for the definition provided by Douglas Brown4. 😉

Now we’re getting somewhere. That's much more specific. 👍

That’s not the only way. If you click the button in the top right corner, you can find more details, including the movie synopsis.

They’re marketing this as a SPIRITUAL film, claiming it’ll be the first of its kind.

That’s fine, but it’s not really what this thread is about.

I hear what you're saying, but I was actually looking for a specific argument tied directly to that link, rather than just a general observation.
Are you critiquing the movie itself, or are you taking aim at the people who criticized it?

Can someone provide an actual argument here?

What are your thoughts on this?

That was actually the first one that popped into my head too, especially considering how old and tall it is.

If Silva had known he was going up against nothing but Mike, he probably wouldn't have bothered with all that heavy weightlifting. In a standard clinch, raw strength isn't even the deciding factor. But he wasn't just prepping for one guy; he was training for a championship bout where he might have to grind it out against a much heavier, less agile grappler instead of someone with that kind of speed.

Maybe that's the secret sauce behind folk music psychology?

Think about it: folk goes hand-in-hand with alcohol, techno and raves pair with ecstasy, rock hits different with cocaine, jazz pairs with Coca-Cola, and classical music belongs with sparkling water. 😁
urbannomad12 said:The folks cranking out country hits—they’re geniuses, turning two chords and four lines into massive anthems.

The people listening to them? They just want things simple and uncomplicated.

And the rest of us? We're all just bitter because we can't live life that easily.

👍
Gerald Rivera60 said:Personally, I don't think you can learn much about someone from their music taste, especially if they're just listening to whatever is on Top 40 radio. Especially when it comes to building a psychological profile or identifying specific personality traits through the lens of psychology ***********
If that were actually true, we wouldn't need all those massive, expensive assessments; we could just ask, "So, what's on your playlist?"
What would that even look like?
- Psychologist: "What genre of music do you prefer?"
- Subject: "Uh, well... probably country pop, you know, like Ceca and stuff like that."
- Psholog (scribbling away and muttering into his beard): Extroversion 90 percent, Psychoticism, 80 percent, Intelligence 90. Other traits include a tendency toward excess and maladaptive behavior. Irresponsible and lazy. Definitely loves being the center of attention.
- Psychologist (to the next subject): "And what kind of music do you prefer?"
- Subject: "I'm really into ambient and New Age... things like Vangelis or Oldfield."
- Psychologist: "Extroversion 10 percent, Neuroticism 70 percent, Intelligence 120. Other traits include a predisposition toward hallucinogenic psychoactive substances, escapism, and a chronic habit of not paying the bills."
😬
Just kidding (I didn't mean to offend any music fans; I was just poking fun at the idea of profiling people based solely on their Spotify Wrapped)

Jeeee, yet another post with a touch of psychology! 🙂
Jacob Long said:That’s actually a fascinating question. Honestly, I think studying the psychological profile of people who listen to that kind of music is way more interesting than looking at the artists themselves...
...I mean, how low is their tolerance level? How do they feel when things get messy? How do they view themselves in this world, and why do they feel so threatened in those moments? Is it possible that deep down they are incredibly insecure, and by choosing "cool" or "urban" music, they're just crafting an image of who they want to be? Then, if they ever accidentally veer toward mainstream pop or country and someone catches them, their whole persona just collapses...
...Let's unpack this a bit. What do you all think these psychological profiles look like? What goes on inside those heads? And if you happen to be one of them, tell us about your experience—what exactly are you so afraid of?

👍
Finally, a post that actually dives into psychology. (And this is the psychology subforum, isn't it?)
Kimberly Anderson22 said:Even putting aside the wild, emotional lack of taste, the actual sound itself is what gets under my skin—it’s like some sort of Middle Eastern electronic zurna...

There are probably plenty of other things that rub people the wrong way. Come on, let's hear it... Put 😁your distaste into words.

You know, I actually really dig that Middle Eastern vibe. And mind you, I don't usually listen to country music at all. For me, it's more like the sound of a banjo that just grates on my nerves. Usually, I'm much more into classical music. Does that say something about my psychological profile?😬

Nicole Ramos2 said:Pardon my French, but where on earth are you getting those conclusions? I watched the interview Joseph gave right after the fight, and he mentioned he got poked in the eye *during* the bout... I didn't catch the exact moment it happened, so I'm wondering where you're pulling this from? Did I miss something in that interview? I need proof; I'm pretty skeptical about what you're claiming here.

Look, all I did was ask what happened when he said "Oh shit," and everyone told me he’d been poked in the eye. If they're feeding me lies, I'm just passing them along to you. The bottom line is he threw in the towel right after saying "Oh shit," but as for what actually went down at that exact second—I honestly don't know. That's why I asked.

Nicole Ramos2 said:Barnett mentioned he hurt his finger during ground fighting, noting it happens in training too and was basically his own fault. He definitely didn't tap out solely because of that, especially since he took at least ten hits to the exact same spot. I honestly don't see the logic in what you're saying, Daniel Chavez14.😬

Look, he didn't quit JUST because of the finger, but let's be real—it was the straw that broke the camel's back. He tapped out IMMEDIATELY after it happened.

Logic isn't my only weapon. I've got hands (just like Mike) and fingers. 😬

It didn't look intentional. Just imagine how much more effective those techniques become when they actually mean to do it.

Gerald Smith76 said:See? It just goes to show that eye gouges aren't some secret move reserved solely for martial arts experts. 😬 😬

Chuckles, but honestly, this just proves—and now Boxer is going to kill me for saying this—that all those fancy striking techniques, joint locks, and chokes don't mean a damn thing compared to these cheap, dirty little tricks you don't even have to train hard to pull off. I mean, after all, that's exactly why Barnett threw in the towel. 😛
