Zachary Thompson2 said:Sure, maybe I’m just getting old and everything seemed better back in the day... but honestly, watching this today is just plain boring, especially when one team is totally dominating. Yeah, sure, there are tons of overtakes and it feels "tense," but once you realize there's a massive restriction on engine development in the background, plus they have hybrid technology, DRS, and all those other gadgets—not to mention how they have to manage every single tire type because the manufacturer intentionally makes them degrade differently—it all starts feeling fake. It's like, a driver just hits a button and suddenly has an extra 50 horsepower to blast past the guy in front in under a second. Seriously, it feels like some teenager came up with the whole concept. It has less and less to do with actual racing. Man, what a difference ten years makes.
Unfortunately, I agree. All these restrictions + the various gadgets + the tires = crap.👎 But hey, it is what it is. There's no fixing it.🤷 And regardless of the rules or whatever tech they introduce, someone always manages to build the best car, and there's always a driver who's the best in that car and ends up dominating... it's nothing new, and at the end of the day, it'll always be like that.
I think the main reason for all the constant whining is always the same... My driver/team aren't the ones winning, so😢 the rules suck.👎
It all boils down to how many unhappy people there are. When the three biggest fanbases are all pissed off at once, you get exactly what we're seeing now. But if they finally let engine development go and scrap the aerodynamics... then by some miracle, Red Bull Racing (aka Chevrolet) pulls ahead in that area and starts bullying everyone again, there'll be a whole new wave of whining: "Give us back our aero and freeze the engine development!"🙂😁
Are you kidding me??? Look, if you've been watching NASCAR for 12 years, then you saw 2002 and 2004. Those were actually interesting, whereas 2011 was just boring.😕
If you're saying that because Red Bull Racing was dominating, then fine, but you seriously can't claim 2002 or 2004 was more exciting.😕 Good grief, that Ford car was practically twice as dominant compared to the competition as the Red Bull Racing car was.😳 I honestly don't recall a single Red Bull Racing car lapping those near-podium guys, or races where it was just two Red Bull Racing cars and maybe one other driver in the same lap...
Back in 2002, Ford had a 1-2 finish nine times. About three-quarters of the races that season, they finished a full lap ahead of the pack, and there were even races where they were the only ones on the podium in the same lap...
And in 2004, they had eight 1-2 finishes, and again, about three-quarters of the races that year, they were finishing a lap ahead of everyone else...
Meanwhile, the Red Bull RB7 only had three 1-2 finishes, and including Malaysia, that's only 13 total...
So, we could debate whether Felipe Massa actually pulls off a perfect qualifying lap😁 whether Nico Rosberg keeps playing follow-the-leader, or if his memory is even functioning properly😬 And will Mark Webber actually pin Sebastian Vettel against the wall and mutter "sorry," or is he just going to keep talking a big game without doing anything?
Changing the rules mid-season is absolute madness, especially when you start messing with the points system.☕ And anyone trying to act like a genius by lecturing others on the regulations halfway through the season... just shut it. Save the wisdom for next year. There was plenty of time to debate the rules during the off-season. Anyone who didn't speak up then can officially eat their words now. Otherwise, we’d basically have rule changes every single race depending on whoever feels like benefiting at that exact moment.🙄
At this rate, I could probably spend my time obsessing over exactly how much extra credit the PP should get for Australia, since God knows that might actually net me a few points.😬
swifttiger75 said:Personally, I'd leave everything exactly as it is, maybe just add a 10-point bonus for correctly guessing the top three finishers.
Not a bad call, but I’d tweak it a little....😁 If you nail an entire group, you get an extra 10 or 5 bonus points.😁
So, say you sweep a group: Group 1-3 = 5+1 x 3 = 18 + 10 = 28 Group 4-10 = 3+1 x 7 = 28 + 10 = 38 Group 11-16 = 2+2 x 6 = 24 + 5 = 29 Group 17-22 = 1+2 x 6 = 18 + 5 = 23 DNF Group = 3+1 x however many there are, plus 5 bonus points if you hit them all. Actually, maybe just a +5 bonus if you don't predict any DNFs and nobody actually drops out during the race...
PP and FL are already linked anyway, so adding extra group points there makes zero sense... And DNQ doesn't even have exact positions or hits to work with...
Terry Carter2 said:I can't say for certain, so I'll just say I don't know; you're more than welcome to go digging for answers yourself if you're so interested. Whether it's stupid or not, it works fine for me, and you shouldn't think I'm an idiot just because we disagree. In fact, if you do think that, it says much more about your character than mine!
And frankly, your own suggestion isn't any better—try coming up with something actually substantial next time! 😁
1. The race itself follows a points system that, as far as I know, still doesn't make total sense to anyone...😁 Before the second race, people started arguing about the scoring system. Max suggested one way, the banned manager then added a point via his teammate for hitting a specific position...
Some minor tweaks happened later... but basically, the scoring system hasn't changed since the very beginning, specifically since the second race.
Man, you can really overcomplicate things, can't you?🤣
Look, I don't really care... neither am I going to be copying SuKki, nor is she going to be copying me.🤣 So, it literally makes zero difference to me. But like I said, I still don't see any logic in allowing teammates to share info while banning everyone else from doing the same.
If copying is allowed—then let everyone copy from everyone. If copying is allowed only with public permission from the source—then fine, let that rule apply to anyone as long as they have permission. If copying is only punished if the source files a complaint—then again, let everyone copy from everyone (as long as nobody complains). And if copying isn't allowed—then nobody copies from anybody.☕
Ultimately, if you allow teammates to share picks, it’s just as stupid as allowing people to clone accounts and play with two profiles at once. It’s pure idiocy. It would be much more logical to just give every "solo player" team points by counting their score twice every round, effectively making teams non-existent.
In my opinion, if people are so desperate for "team play" that they need to share info, it's better to just split the competition up entirely... For example, each team could submit just one single team prediction like this: Player No. 1 picks the top 10 on the grid + PP and FL Player No. 2 picks the remaining 12 drivers. Or they could just agree that every player provides the top 10 + FL/PP every other race...
Meanwhile, the driver championship can continue as usual, with everyone making their own individual picks.
That way, you'd end up with an individual champion AND a legitimate "constructors'" champion.
redheron12 said:That’s like me saying it’s perfectly fine to sleep with TBFov’s wife—simply because TBF does it too. 🤷
Since when did playing on a team become a marriage?🤣 So what, am I supposed to turn bigamist now and marry my teammate or something? What kind of logic is this?😬
redheron12 said:I’ve said it a hundred times already—I have absolutely no intention of following the rules regarding this championship. The forum, the parent company, Monitor Doo, and the owner aren't involved in organizing or managing any of this, so frankly, I couldn't care less about their regulations.
Regarding the whole debate about copying—personally, I’m all for it. I think it's perfectly fine if teammates decide to put out identical predictions.
Look, Gleč, I don't care. Whatever the moderator or the majority of players decide, that's what happens. But if that's the case, the rules need to actually match up... both for the competition and the subforum. It's honestly ridiculous when one set of rules says one thing and another set says the exact opposite.😉
Regarding the actual copying—honestly, I don't see any difference whether someone is on the same team or not.🙄 Someone please explain to me why there's even a distinction here.🤣 If copying is allowed, then it should be allowed for everyone, regardless of whose prediction they grabbed. The only real question is whether we decide to penalize that kind of thing with points or not.☕
Because at the end of the day, there's no real difference between you copying Patina's prediction, me copying Patina's, or you copying mine.☕ You can't predict ahead of time whose guess will be better or worse anyway. And copying is literally just guessing, no different than pulling a result out of thin air.😉
The only thing that truly matters is that the rules stay the same for every player, no matter their team. No playing favorites: "Oh, I copied my teammate and it's fine because we agreed..." vs "TBFov copied my teammate so he needs to be punished, haha."🙂 That's just a recipe for endless arguments and total nonsense.
only if there is a formal complaint from andisadvantaged player>
Well, it really comes down to how one interprets the fine print. You seem to read the rule as meaning anyone could be affected—whereas my view is that no teammate should be put at a disadvantage. 🤷
If it had explicitly stated
only in the event of a complaint fromdisadvantaged players
then we would be looking at a completely different scenario... but as it stands, 🤷
How am I supposed to go through the trouble of copying Pat's work—only to turn around and file a grievance against myself as the aggrieved party? For the sake of clarity, I might need to interpret this rule once more for the record. 😁
How can an aggrieved player also be a teammate?😂 A teammate is only an "aggrieved player" if their buddy let them copy their terrible prediction.😬
If they copied a good one (meaning it actually scored points), then everyone else is the one getting screwed.☕
P.S. record this 😁
2. Any blatantly obvious and intentional copying of someone else's prediction—regardless of whether the "real" prediction is submitted later—will be treated as the worst kind of trolling. It's seen as an attempt to spark mass chaos in the competition and will result in an automatic ban of 3 days or more. This rule primarily targets deliberate copy-pasting and similar "provocations."
And there's also the whole thing about clone accounts...
1. Any competitor participating in the same contest using both their original handle and a clone account will face a ban of 7 days or more on their original handle, plus a permanent ban for the clone.
Terry Carter2, if you're actually okay with people copying, just change the subforum rules. Even though it seems irrelevant here, anyone who remembers the old fights and nonsense over copying and clones knows exactly why the rules are set this way.
Man, William Bennett53, that’s just how it goes... We all know the drill. As soon as those first results drop, everyone starts nitpicking the rulebook again.😁
Honestly, I have zero clue what kind of setup darkmarlin16 used to kick off this whole race prediction game on this subforum...😕 As far as I can tell (and trust me, I know😁), some of the regulars here have been calling these results since back in 2003 or 2004 right here on this same board... so I really don't get how or why he even started it up.😁
Take this guy for example—he’s one of those old-school veterans.😁 There are plenty more like him...😁 In fact, if my memory serves me right, we're actually hitting the ten-year mark for the first round in just a few days.😍
Joe, hands down, the best scoring system is Matthew Young35's original method😁 you know, that thing people call "Matthew's rule" or whatever... The only catch is that the math is a pain, and nobody actually wants to sit there crunching numbers because it takes forever...
Basically, the system works by looking at the gap between where you predicted a driver would finish versus where they actually landed... So, if you miss by 3 spots, you get 3 points; miss by 10, you get 10 points... and so on for every single driver. The winner is whoever ends up with the lowest score, and the loser is the one with the most.
Honestly, it’s the perfect system. You won't find anything better or more fair than this.☕ The only issue is that half the players can't handle it, and then they spend the next six months whining about how someone jumped them in the standings.🤣
1. Introducing qualifying sessions😁 Since we’ve got a massive crowd of players but aren't running a full tournament, what do you guys think about adding qualifying rounds before the race?😁 - Set the qualifying predictions 10 minutes before Free Practice 3 starts. - Let's set a cutoff, say 50%.😁 Anyone scoring less than 50% compared to the qualifying winner gets a DNF, which basically means they don't start the race.😁
If we go this route, we’d also need to shift the deadline for race predictions... - Race predictions would be due no later than 10 minutes before qualifying begins.
2. The scoring system... Then there's the points. We could stick to the current system for overall results, but tweak it so the top three get a different payout:
1st-3rd place gets 5 points. 4th-10th place gets 3 points. Everything else stays the same... But, if you nail the exact position: 1st - 25 points 2nd - 18 points 3rd - 15 points
Seems like a pretty decent fix, though... But I'm lost on the deadline for appeals. Is it before the next race starts, or what? I'm assuming they don't want people filing late protests long after the fact—it would be a nightmare trying to fix the results later on.
Look, those were the two windows we've used up until now... Basically, at 3:00, it’s three sessions before the actual practice starts. But hey, maybe Max heads into work at 3:00, or Seth rolls in straight from a local happy hour, so there you go—it ended up being 3:00.🤣 I can't quite remember who actually came up with that idea, but I know most people were on board with it...
redheron12 said:Is the deadline for submitting predictions really Saturday at 3 AM? Or rather, late Friday night? It feels a bit silly—I mean, wouldn't it make more sense to have the cutoff by Saturday at 1 PM, just an hour before qualifying starts?
Old news here... the standard explanation has always been that the deadline has to hit before Free Practice 3 kicks off. Personally, I don't see much point to it either,🤷 but hey, it is what it is.
