Fernando Alonso is defending his spot using DRS

WTF 😕

I didn't even wrap my head around how that was even possible 😕

If this trend with the tires continues in the upcoming seasons—meaning they just shred themselves instantly—Lewis Hamilton won't stand a chance against Jenson Button. Absolutely none. Without the SC, he would have been lagging 40 to 50 seconds behind Gumby today; instead, he was out front after the first corner and managed to finish without any penalties or collisions.

Not exactly true, though. Hamilton started with a slow puncture, so the gap wasn't quite that massive.

But yeah, it’s been obvious since the start of the season that Hamilton is going to struggle with this while Button gets a huge advantage.

Also, I think Webber is lagging behind Vettel for the exact same reason: Vettel is just way better at managing his tires than Webber is.

darkmarlin16 said:man, he basically wiped out a four or five second gap in literally one second flat.🙄

I mean, if they hadn't told him "don't you dare," he probably would've gone for it.🙄 ☕

Jenson Button explained it perfectly—they told him over the radio that everyone was miles behind him and he should just slow down.🤣Then his radio cut out on him, and to top it all off, they completely forgot to put up the pit lane speed limit sign. Typical.🤣

He had to be pretty shocked when he looked up during the next lap and saw Alonso right on his tail.

Basically, once he realized he couldn't just cruise around forever, he slammed on the gas and called it a day. That was that.☕

Let's be real: neither Alonso nor Vettel stood a chance at overtaking, and Webber wouldn't have had a shot in his wildest dreams. There's a massive difference between just trying to catch up and actually having the pace to pass. Plus, the DRS zone at Indianapolis was placed so poorly it was basically useless.☕

If they’d actually given Lewis Hamilton the green light to overtake Jenson Button, he would've done it without even blinking.😬🤣

A massive conspiracy at McLaren.😳

darkmarlin16 said:First off, huge congratsSebastian Vettel on grabbing the title.

Going into this race, I was fully expecting Red Bull to just absolutely steamroll the field—like, their most dominant showing all season. But nope, that didn't happen.
As for Fernando, I had him pegged for 5th since, let's be honest, that car isn't exactly a rocket ship, though I was secretly hoping he might scrape into 4th somehow. So, seeing him actually push Jenson Button like that and get right in the mix for the win? Totally caught me off guard. Those white tires were performing shockingly well. Toward the end of the race, I really didn't think Fernando would have the legs to hold off Sebastian using DRS, but man, he defended like a total pro.🙏
He showed some serious class by handling the loss so gracefully, being the VERY FIRST person to congratulate Sebastian on the championship right after hopping out of the car, and then doing it again during the press conference. Honestly, moments like that make me feel pretty damn proud to be rooting for a guy like him.

Regarding Jenson, I’m honestly just glad that if Fernando couldn't take the win, it ended up going to him instead. He proved once again that he's got the edge over Lewis Hamilton, and look, if he isn't rocking that red camera and the number 3 on his car next season, I'm calling foul—that'll be blatant favoritism toward Hamilton.

Red Bull once again played it safe and wouldn't let Mark Webber go for the pass on Sebastian, even though they swore up and down last year that they’d never pull a stunt like that. 🙄

Mercedes, as per usual, was pretty much useless considering what they’re actually aiming for.

Renault 😢

Sergio Perez 🙂

And how was Mark Webber supposed to attack Vettel? 😂

In that SF, Webber wasn't even in the same zip code as Button, Alonso, or Vettel.

So, where exactly did they land on that penalty for Fernando Alonso at Monza?🙄

It wasn't there because it shouldn't have been there in the first place.
Look, Alonso actually gave Vettel some breathing room there. If he hadn't moved, Vettel would've ended up spinning out into the grass. Instead, he tucked into his right side to clear a path and let him through.
That was Vettel, and he said it right there at the press conference.
By the way, this comment isn't related to today's start, and I'm not trying to draw any parallels here.

Obviously there shouldn't have been a penalty, neither for Alonso in that race nor for Vettel in this one. They shouldn't have happened then either.☕

I actually watched the replay on ESPN from a few different angles, and it’s crystal clear that Vettel is just mirroring whatever Hamilton does. He's following Hamilton's movements in both directions immediately after him, which makes total sense. Today, winning wasn't his priority; just finishing the race without wrecking everything was. And if you don't want to crash, you watch where Hamilton is—especially when he's right in front of you.🧐

Even a toddler could figure that out.🙂

Chris Ortiz said:I was wondering if any of the logic experts here could walk me through how it's possible for someone to hold two consecutive titles without necessarily being the youngest person to achieve two titles?

It doesn't even have to.🤣

Look, let’s say some new kid comes along and sweeps the 2018 title as the youngest ever, then goes and grabs 2019 too. Technically, Vettel would still hold the record as the youngest two-time F1 Champion—assuming this imaginary newcomer somehow stumbles into that second title during the very last race of the season.

wanderingbison9 said:The officials definitely saw what happened, but since there wasn't any direct contact—and considering how often they seem to give Sebastian Vettel a free pass whenever possible, along with a few other questionable factors—it's all a bit murky. Did he actually force him off into the grass, or did he leave enough room? By the time Jenson Button was already "inside" the line, had the space already been surrendered? Come on, let's be real here.

Seriously, where was the penalty for Alonso at Monza?🙄

When even Martin Brundle and Coulthard—who usually can't stand McLaren or Jenson Button—are saying it WASN'T a penalty, then it’s obvious they’re actually just Red Bull and Sebastian's fan club.🤣

The BBC is basically just Red Bull's personal TV station at this point.😂

Stoked about the title win 👋🙂😍

but honestly, that 3rd place finish was a bit of a letdown.

Glad for Sergio Perez 🙏

Jason Campbell70 said:I mean, who knows? If Sebastian Vettel was the youngest world champion ever last season, then with this year's title, he’d definitely become the youngest two-time world champion in history.

It's logical and simple.
Unless, of course, you're Mladen Jergovic.

Or Frank Collins85.

BTW—I see some people here already think they know how the next few seasons will play out. Is there a tip line where I can place a bet? 🙂

Bet on Jenson Button or Sebastian Vettel ☕

little brat playing dirty while fighting for the lead... if there isn't some kind of consequence coming, then I don't know what else to say. 🙂🙂😠

Yeah, and the team is telling the BBC they don't even get why anyone is talking about a penalty.🤣

If they don't see anything worth penalizing there, then I guess we know where we stand. ☕

The worst part is everything just stays 🙂

And honestly, I am absolutely livid about Red Bull's decision. Seriously, what a joke. Even if they had crashed out, it wouldn't have mattered—the kid was going to take the title regardless.🙄

The only thing I actually regret, and I have no clue why, is why Kamui started on softs when his lap in Q3 ended up being on hards. 😕

2010 Sebastian Vettel 23y 04m 11d - 1st title
2011 Sebastian Vettel 24y 03m 06d - 2nd title

2005 Fernando Alonso 24y 01m 27d - 1st title
2006 Fernando Alonso 25y 02m 23d - 2nd title

Some people are totally lost. Vettel became a two-time world champion almost before Alonso even secured his first title, let alone his second.☕

I have no clue why, but I’ve got this gut feeling that this might actually be the best race of his career—and man, it's going to blow us all away. 👋

Why can't he just be as good as Vettel?☕
Why didn't Vettel just sweep every single win while he was at Red Bull?
Why on earth are Alonso, Hamilton, and Webber driving like that? Honestly, you could probably squeeze Schumacher, Rosberg, or even Massa ahead of Button in some races if they just found an opening.
Why is it so likely that we'll see more "safe bets" coming out of McLaren?

Brian Campbell36 said:We can start popping the champagne once he actually crosses that finish line tomorrow and secures that final point.
Lest we forget last year, when Vettel sat third in the standings and snatched everything right from under the noses of both Webber and Alonso.

Anything could happen to Vettel—he could have another "Black Friday" disaster, or perhaps some driver might accidentally clip him and puncture his rear right tire; at that point, anything is possible.
Let us just wait until tomorrow morning; by around 10:00 AM, we will finally have our answer!

Vettel might skip winning in Japan and every other race from here on out, and he'd still walk away as the champion celebrating that title.☕

There’s basically no way Button pulls off five wins in a row.☕

The real question is how Vettel clinches it tomorrow: by winning the race, standing on the podium, grabbing points, or simply because Button doesn't take first.

Amanda Kelly said:Massa and Hamilton lined up right next to each other on the grid. 🙂.
Felipe usually plays it gentle and polite at the start, but I get the feeling he’s got a real grudge against Lewis right now. I really hope he doesn't show him an inch of mercy.

If Hamilton pulls off one of those brilliant starts he’s been showing lately, he might just have Kamui in his sights. Not that Kamui actually stands a chance here, obviously, but those first two laps can get messy fast. You need a cool head if you want to survive them.

Everyone's going to be hunting Kobayashi down. Honestly, my bad for not picking him for the podium in our forum championship.🙂

If you want to kill him off, he's actually looking at a podium spot. Why do I think that? Here's the deal:

He's starting on hard tires from the clean side of the grid. If his launch is solid, he might even jump Webber—maybe even Massa or Hamilton if they end up clashing, which they probably will.🤣

He'll pull the longest stint on those hards, and Sauber is quick enough on the straights to stay ahead of the pack despite everyone having DRS.😁
If he manages to hold out and only has to pit twice, a podium is basically in the bag.👋 Then, he'll come out at the end on totally fresh rubber, and I'm expecting a total Kobayashi show in the final 5-10 laps.😍
I'd bet the fastest lap is almost certainly his, or maybe Rosberg's.😳

He'll just line them all up like ducks in a row during those closing laps.👋
