1. When asked if Vettel and Ricciardo would want to be teammates again, the Australian was pretty hesitant. It's like there's some unfinished business from back in the day. Weird.
2. Hamilton is convinced Ferrari is holding back and is going to be right up there with the Germans.

Did you catch Lujo's latest Twitter meltdown? 🤣
It’s obvious he's uncomfortable and just dodging questions about it... honestly, I couldn't even tell what kind of nonsense he was pulling this time. 🤣

The only real surprise here will be for the media and the fans...
when they start obsessively hyping up Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button every single race weekend. 😬

STR might be the surprise of the 2016 season, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves... they’re basically just handing a seat to Pascal Wehrlein at Manor ☕

The rest of it could actually be spot on.

mellowtiger83 said:What kind of "tactic" is that? The drivers don't even pick their own tires.!!

You sure about that? 😁
Maybe the trick is just that everyone is forced to grab at least one set of every compound available. 🤔
Could be a setup where they all take that one set just to check the box, even if they have zero intention of actually using them...

Yeah, you're totally right. 👍

This strategy choice is weird, to say the least...
If I’m following you correctly, you spent the whole GP weekend 🤔
Well, if that's the case, there's zero logic in only having one set of medium tires available 😕
Dammit, they should be testing them in the race sim during FP just to see if they actually last long enough to matter for the race..
But if you burn through that single set during FP, you're screwed for the race. If you don't test them during FP, you have no clue how long they'll hold up or how fast they are, which means you're flying blind on the best tactic...
All in all, a pretty bizarre call 🤔

Mecka, RB, Haas, and Sauber all have a No. 2 driver whose entire job is testing so the No. 1 driver can use that data and run a more aggressive strategy...
It's strange that Mecka started playing that political game from the very first race; looks like they're genuinely terrified of Ferrari and the rest of the pack 😲

3. Nico Rosberg Mercedes 1:23.022 (S) Tag 5

So, basically, Mercedes made zero progress whatsoever over an entire year...🙂
The comparison is solid, I guess. Nothing more to say.🤣

Either they’re just messing with the crew—showing off that they can pull enough mileage for a whole season in just 8 days on a single engine—
or they're proving they can be insanely fast even on the hardest tires, while still being able to clock the exact same time as last year if they felt like it.😁

Morning. There's no way STR is taking the Constructors' Championship this year. 🤣
I said what I said, and I wasn't even drinking when I said it. 😬

But yeah, I'm sure seeing Verstappen and Sainz dominate is going to rub a lot of people the wrong way...
Last year's Ferrari Power Unit was actually solid, definitely miles ahead of the Renault...
And STR has a great chassis... so they can at best be a whole lot better than last season.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Verstappen and Sainz are out there making fools of Massa and Bottas. 😁

Looks like the FIA finally did something right for once. 😲🙏
It’s about time they actually listed what drivers *can* say instead of handing them a 7,000-page manual on everything they aren't allowed to mention. 🤣

copperdrifter26 said:So STR clocked a 1:24.8 (Kimi's pace) on medium tires, which basically means STR with that old Ferrari engine is just as fast as the current Ferrari. 😲

And why would that even be that weird?
STR has a damn good car, and decent drivers too... they just had a garbage engine last year.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the STR duo regularly slaps Kimi in races, or even snatches a decent amount of wins...
I mean, when STR last ran an old Ferrari engine like that, Vettel was literally beating Hamilton and Alonso in the same ☕
And I expect the same from little Verstappen; besides, STR's car and crew are way better now than they were back then. 😉

Not trying to be a contrarian, just saying what I see. 😉
The main difference between me and the "good" Ferrari fans (the new batch of Vettel supporters) is that I don't get hit by preseason euphoria every year with rumors about having the greatest car ever built.
But hey, I won't be hit by the depression and the urge to trash the competition until maybe race two or three...
If Vettel had a car capable of fighting Hamilton, we’d definitely take the title, but the problem is we probably won't see that for a long time—at least not at Ferrari...

Unfortunately, Ferrari is in a massive hole right now, and there's no magic wand to fix it.
Don't expect anything to happen unless some absolute miracle occurs...
After a constant downward spiral since 2005 and ten years of total disorganization and sloppy management, the team suddenly thinks they can just become the No. 1 team on the grid again.
And they think it'll happen just because they got Ariverbene and Alison... that's not happening on its own. 😉
It wouldn't work even if they signed Newey and all the best mechanics and engineers from Red Bull + Brawn, let alone this current setup...

mellowtiger83 said:Everyone keeps arguing about how Ferrari was on softs while Mercedes stayed on hards, but am I really the only one who realized there isn't much of a massive speed gap between the compounds anymore?

Honestly, there’s zero difference between the ultrasoft and the medium...
Look, if one car is consistently half a second slower on mediums, then it’s obviously going to be faster on softs, supersoft, or hard tires too. There's basically no difference between them at that point. 🙂🤣

mellowtiger83 said:And when Vettel finally retires... Absolute garbage. Once Lewis Hamilton hits the track in Melbourne, everyone’s going to be tightening their belts and playing it safe—Goofy, ruggedhawk20, and the rest of that crowd.

That bolded part is the bottom line... and honestly, that’s about as far as Ferrari's ever going to get.
What are the odds of Lewis Hamilton actually beating Kimi Räikkönen or Sebastian Vettel? Literally zero. None.

I just took a quick look at what most of the betting houses are saying...
You’re telling me Kimi is getting the same shot—if not less—at the title than Alonso? Honestly, that says everything you need to know. 😉

graniteharbor502 said:Why would they even care about a fastest lap during testing? 🤷

Didn't they just go public?
And I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that their stock is looking a little shaky right now, too...
It’s pretty easy to see what's going on here. Sergio is probably just pushing that hype about how incredible the Ferrari is just to drive up their price tag.
Should probably ask Brutus about that; he’s always deep in those spikes.

The more I wrap my head around this whole situation, the more it looks like Ferrari's chances are basically zero.
Mercedes isn't just insanely fast; they're also ridiculously reliable.
Good grief, those guys managed to pull off enough laps in just eight days with a single Power Unit to cover basically nineteen entire races. Seriously, that’s almost the whole damn season.
So, here’s the deal with their setup: they’re planning on getting by with just two engines and two gearboxes per car for the season. That's it.

On the other hand, Ferrari looked okay, but you can't trust them as far as you can throw them.
He looked fast, sure, but only on the Softs and Mediums. It felt totally artificial.
That was just one stint on Softs. You could blame anything—weather conditions, running an empty tank, who knows? But on the Mediums? He was getting absolutely smoked by the Mečko.
While the Mercedes-Benz guys were out there absolutely shredding the track on Mediums and Softs, putting up blistering times every single time they rolled out for a decent run...

Honestly, that stupid theory isn't even funny to me. If anything, it’s actually pretty plausible.
I’m honestly expecting some massive shock from the FIA before I see anything unexpected from Ferrari.
Even with Red Bull Racing—a team you can never really count out—they looked better this time around than they did during any of the previous V6 era tests.
Even McDhon shouldn't be written off just yet. It wouldn't be a total shock if they somehow stumbled their way right into the top tier.

As for Ferrari, nothing about them looks good right now.
Reliability was a joke, the pace was non-existent, and everything else? Not exactly impressive either.
And the best part? Total radio silence. No one from Alison’s camp is out here claiming the car is top-tier, Ariverbene isn't bragging about anything, and nobody’s even whispering a word about the Power Unit.
Sergio's out there feeding the press all this hype about how amazing Ferrari is, while Vettel and Kimi are keeping it real—saying it's a decent step forward, but definitely not enough.

Mercedes takes WDC and WCC again, and Lewis Hamilton is untouchable!

Ferrari? Nothing from them... they'll be lucky to grab even one win...

The biggest surprise will be Force India—I'm calling 2 or 3 wins for them!!!
Nico Hulkenberg gets 2 wins and Sergio Perez gets 1.....

Red Bull, Williams, Toro Rosso, Sauber, Renault, and Haas will just be fighting
for those middle spots, maybe grabbing an occasional podium if
it rains or if things just go crazy....

Manor and McLaren... it’s going to be a tight race to see who finishes last...

McLaren looks slightly better, but there's zero chance Honda lasts a full race. Meanwhile, Manor is slow, but at least that Mecka engine actually makes it to the finish line....

Hulk - Spa, USA
Perez - Abu Dhabi
Vettel - Singapore

What's the scoop?
With Sky pumping up the hype and selling us a load of nonsense, wouldn't anyone just grab a subscription to Sky Formula 1 for this supposedly "thrilling" season? 🙂

Honestly, looks like they're in as much trouble as AT&T is with their Motorsport package, MaxGP, or whatever they're calling it these days...
It's pretty telling that starting this season, they're dropping video content online without those British IP restrictions they had last year... feels like their viewership is cratering, so they're sweating bullets trying to trick someone into buying a package...

That same day, he clocked a best time of 1:24.319 on the Medium tires, which was only a hair faster than... 1:24.681 in qualifying. What kind of mess did they make on the Medium tires?
Looking at the comparison with this year, it’s pretty wild that Mercedes only managed a measly 0.2-second improvement on the Medium compared to last year's testing. Their best time on the Medium this season is sitting at 1:21.1xx. That’s a weirdly small jump, honestly.
Even on softs, he's actually slower by about 0.2 seconds compared to last year—clocking in at 1:22.8xx versus last year's 1:23.0xx.

So there’s really no talking about some massive two-second gap here, unless you’re trying to compare times from testing sessions run on tires that weren't even used in qualifying or the race.
It’s kind of like trying to compare lap times from a US race that probably won't even happen this season. What's the point?

Comparing Vettel's race time to this simulation is actually pretty fair. Since we're looking at times from the final stint on the Mediums, it’s a decent comparison. Hitting a 1:27.527 on Mediums in the sim. Not bad. I can't even begin to process this. What am I supposed to work with here? Give me something actual to write about. Rough lap (1:30.737)....
Look, I know it’s a bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison since Sebastian Vettel ran his final stint on hards, but even if we pretend—just for the sake of argument—and compare it to Kimi Räikkönen's last stint on mediums (1:29.931), the gap is still massive. We're talking roughly 2.4 seconds slower than last year. Yikes.
It honestly sounds insane. Finding over two seconds in Formula 1 in just a single year? Even one second is a massive leap, let alone 2.4 seconds—especially coming from a top-tier team.
Those famous 2.4 seconds would sound ridiculous even if Honda found them—and they were a complete disaster last year. Forget about Ferrari finding them; they were at the very top. 🤔

green - fastest lap
red - driver error or a red flag
yellow - pit stop

First 8 laps on softs, then the remaining 58 on Medium

Something doesn't add up here.🤔
http://www.formula1.com/content/fom-...ults/race.html

Last year, FL Hamilton 1:28.270, while Sebastian Vettel is hitting 1:27.527 here...
It sounds like a massive SF if Ferrari didn't just close the gap to last year's Mercedes, but actually found a car that's about 0.750 faster than the old Mercedes.🤔

And it gets even more ridiculous—it looks like Ferrari somehow found over 3 seconds compared to their own car from last year.😵
http://en.mclarenf-1.com/index.php?p...stian%20Vettel
Sebastian Vettel's best time last year was 1:30.737, and now he's pulling 1:27.527 in this race simulation...

Anything can happen, I guess, but I'm not buying that they magically found 3 seconds in a single year.

Force India (@SChecoPerez) just spun out at turn 10. Marshals are reporting smoke and actual flames

Does anyone have the data on how many miles this engine has actually run in the Force India?
Looks like a dead ICE to me. 🤔
If that chart at the start of this thread is right:
Test 1 total: 333 laps / 1550 km
Test 2 total: 428 laps / 1992 km
Now the big question is... are we looking at the exact same engine or what?

Even if it isn't, the total mileage is still less than 2486 miles. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that engines this year should hit about 2486 miles before they start catching penalties. 🤔
Hmm. Maybe Mercedes doesn't actually have a reliability issue with their PU after all. If they do, it would explain why they've been testing like absolute maniacs. 🤔

That’s it... The Bear is slowing down more and more.
Look at this—while Lewis Hamilton was out today, they slowed down so much she basically hit 0 km/h.😬

I honestly have no clue what to make of all this after these tests. We haven't seen anything substantial enough to actually call it one way or the other...

It’s obvious Mercedes didn't even bother with qualifying simulations. They clearly think they're untouchable No1, so they just focused on reliability and race simulations instead...
Williams seems to be running a pretty similar program as Mercedes.
As for what Ferrari is up to, it's hard to tell. But I'm terrified they actually *did* run qualifying sims, and if they did, they're nowhere near catching Mercedes.

What really stings is seeing Ferrari trailing by half a second on mediums compared to Mercedes. That doesn't look good at all.

Yeah, sure. Ferrari is about half a second faster at SS compared to last year, while Mercedes actually managed to be 0.2 slower at S than they were last season...
That comparison is totally accurate. 😬🤣

And for the grand finale, Mercedes basically fell apart after doing just enough laps to finish a single F1 season. 🎉🤣
