mellowtiger83 said:Oh, come on. You're saying Vettel had a car two seconds faster in Malaysia just because he passed Mercedes right on track? He almost caught the other guy too, if they hadn't pitted.👎, so yeah, totally logical thinking there. I mean, Kimi would definitely smoke Bottas, but for some reason Vettel isn't

To be a little tomorrow..
It was obvious even back then that Williams had way better acceleration than Ferrari.
In Australia, according to LT, Massa had a noticeably lower top speed than Vettel, yet he was still charging ahead in the DRS zone without any help.
I know, it blew my mind at the time that something like that was even possible, but clearly, Mercedes-Benz's ERS works way better than everyone else's when it comes to those bursts of speed.
They don't necessarily have a killer top speed compared to the other engines, but they hit it much faster and can basically dump all that power onto the asphalt instantly, while everyone else takes a second to get there.
That also explains why they don't struggle with tire overheating and why they crush the competition in qualifying but struggle in the race—they just juice up the battery and nail that one perfect lap.
It also explains why their rear tires get absolutely shredded compared to the rest of the field...

As for Malaysia, calling the car two seconds faster is an understatement.
Specifically 2.5 seconds during the overtake on Hamilton 🙂
The gap between fresh softs and tires that are 15-20 laps old is at least two seconds, sometimes even more.☕
Just look at the comparison in Bahrain... Vettel was faster than Hamilton by 5.6 seconds😳 on lap 15... the gap is honestly insane.😉

Roger Wright94 said:The real question is how he even got close. Like, why didn't Mercedes build a car with a 10-20 second advantage?
Because that exact same Mercedes was easily (emphasis on *easily*) overtaking Ferraris on the straights.

Is it just race conditions where the Ferrari was actually faster than the Mercedes, or did Kimi Räikkönen just drive a hell of a race!? Or both!? 🎉

Third place, unfortunately...
Lewis Hamilton drove exactly what he needed to.
The issue is that if you want to overtake anyone using a Mercedes engine, you basically need a car that's 1-2 seconds faster, otherwise your tires are absolutely trashed within a lap or two.
He uses that to his advantage perfectly by dictating the pace, knowing he can always floor it if he needs to...

I'm afraid Kimi Räikkönen wasn't catching Rosberg, Vettel, or Hamilton because he was just that fast, but rather because Hamilton was playing the Little train.

Maldonado Pokupil 🙏 🤣 🤣 🤣
We already saw he got penalized for jumping the start...

But the kicker is he actually started 18 spots back when he was supposed to be on 16. 🤣🤣🤣
What a genius. 🙏🤣

I’ve watched every single MS race, and even in his early days, MS never had a drive as much of an absolute disaster as Vettel just did. Look, Vettel is a great driver and a brilliant guy—but he isn't even a shadow of Schumacher. The only similarity is the national anthem playing after a win; that's where the whole "new Schumacher" nonsense starts and ends.

Kimi Räikkönen drove a fantastic race. Seriously. Great job. Props to him.

So Kimi had a killer race while Vettel completely tanked it...
One good thing doesn't make a damn spring.😉

And let's not forget the big difference: Vettel finishes fifth even after a miserable drive, instead of missing out on points or scraping by in 10th...

What a way to finish 🙏🤣

I mean, screw his Ford, wasn't that a Ricky engine anyway?
A penalty already by race 5 of the season? 🤦

Anthony Baker84 said:Just one potentially dumb question: why didn't they switch Vettel over to softs when he pitted for that new front wing?

They didn't have any fresh softs left. Even if they did, that stint would’ve dragged on way too long anyway.
The only move was maybe letting him run with the busted wing for a few laps before pitting for both the wing and the softs...
But honestly? I doubt that would've helped much either.

Alexander Gonzalez79 said:Yeah, Vettel shaved 9 seconds off Valtteri Bottas' time incredibly fast, but the guy was absolutely terrible in the duel today. Not even worth discussing.

Let’s be real, Vettel had a pathetic day. A total, absolute disaster.🤦

But honestly, it wasn't like Williams Racing could have done anything better, even if they'd had the best day ever. We've seen plenty of times now that the Williams is just the worst car on the grid for...
The issue is their exit out of the corners is so good that even DRS doesn't help. Honestly, I'd say they actually have a better shot against The Bear than Williams does in that department.

Just remember Malaysia and how they managed to hunt down The Bear in the DRS zone without any trouble, even with the same lap time gap, while Williams couldn't even get close.

mellowtiger83 said:The guys from Monaco weren't even there. Both cars were running in top-tier teams. Or are you trying to say Lewis Hamilton had a better car back in F3?

Nah, I was the one. 🤣
Oh, please. Now you’re actually posting the standings just so you can pat yourself on the back? Real classy.

Hey, take a look at where their teammates ended up on the standings. 🙂
Maybe Adrian Sutil was just a massive talent back in F3000, because that’s the only way he managed to drag that junk heap into a runner-up spot. 🤣
And let's not even get started on how Adrian Sutil is some kind of hero just because he managed to scrape together more points by the end of the season. The grid is looking pretty pathetic this year.Actually, only three teams even managed to outscore him, and they barely did. 😁

mellowtiger83 said:Hamilton and Vettel drove identical cars back in Formula 3000. Hamilton absolutely smoked him during that time, though. Beyond that, they had totally different cars, different conditions, and different teammates.

Just like what they were running in F1.🤣
They’re basically twins. Think Mercedes 2014 and McLaren 2014 levels of identical.😁

Where on earth did you get the idea that Vettel and Hamilton were teammates in Formula 3000?🤦

mellowtiger83 said:Look, let's be real—there isn't a single driver out there better than Lewis Hamilton, so Ferrari doesn't have an edge on that front either.

Actually, they've got two drivers better than Lewis Hamilton, just like McLaren does.😁>

mellowtiger83 said:People forget Kimi Raikkonen actually had a better race pace than Sebastian Vettel in the last two races. His push against the German is what basically forced Max Verstappen into that mess and triggered the safety car.

There's a huge difference between catching someone and actually passing them.😁
Nico Rosberg knows that all too well from this specific race, and honestly, Sebastian Vettel does too...
even if he had slightly better race pace or top speed, he couldn't do squat to Nico Rosberg... his only shot was an undercut during the pit stop.

The reality is Kimi Raikkonen wouldn't have stood a chance against Sebastian Vettel in China, unless he could somehow find a second or two of pure magic on track...

rowdyrider12 said:I thought you had to go back to the tires from Q3, and actually start on the ones from Q2.

You start on the Q2 tires, but you have to swap one set out... though it can be any set. Usually, it's the one used in Q1 plus whatever they ran during that first lap in Q3.
It’s totally possible Nico Rosberg let Sebastian Vettel ahead on purpose. 🤔
Let's be real—he knows he can't touch Lewis Hamilton, and honestly, he isn't even allowed to mess with him during the race, otherwise Niki Lauda, Low, and Frank Williams would tear him a new one on the spot.
But he can definitely stay on Vettel's tail and force him to burn through those tires that already took a beating in Q2.
Then, Rosberg could potentially jump him during the pit stops. If there's clear track behind him, Germany can't really play games with those "equal strategy" rules. 😁

Hamilton is messing with Rosberg 🤣

Anthony Baker84 said:Can I push those Mercedes on softs for 17-20 laps without shredding them? If so, they probably win the race.

Maybe for Rosberg, but it doesn't look like Hamilton can 😍
Rosberg actually made sense explaining why he was slow in Q2...
He claims he was saving tires for the race, which is obviously what both Ferraris were doing too...
meanwhile, Hamilton clocked almost the exact same time in Q2 as he did in Q3...
so yeah, expect Hamilton's tires to be the first ones to blow up.

But then Rosberg let another thing slip—he says he was saving rubber in Q3 too.🤣
Honestly, he’s probably just making excuses because Vettel is kicking his ass, but it's possible Rosberg (and then likely Hamilton) is planning a three-stop strategy 😁 SU, SU, SN, MN...
And if that's the case, even Kimi would lose his mind.😁

Brian Campbell36 said:What is going on with Ferrari? When are they actually dropping an update 🤔

Ferrari is holding off until the Spanish Grand Prix, while Mercedes already brought a decent update to China 🤣

Forget about a motor update for the Spanish Grand Prix. That’s been pushed back until Canada...

mellowtiger83 said:Besides, if Kimi actually beats Vettel, it’d be a massive psychological blow to Pilatus and TBF—honestly, those two might never recover from it.

As far as I'm concerned, 🤣
I couldn't care less about what happened with Ricky, and I definitely wouldn't give a damn if Kimi—who's my second favorite driver on the grid—actually beat him one of these days.😁
farfan says:
Vettel, who immediately went to Force India's garage to apologise to Perez, said a problem with his brakes led to the incident.

Funny how the FIA investigated Perez instead of Vettel... clearly they thought he was the one at fault, if anyone was.
Jerry Moore61 said:Lewis Hamilton: Ferrari a serious threat in Bahrain

The reality: Nico Rosberg edged out Lewis Hamilton by just 0.115 seconds on pure lap times, while the Ferrari duo of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen trailed by about half a second.

That’s just plain wrong.😁
Honestly, the guy over at CNN is completely lost this weekend. He literally can't see basic stuff like who's on which tires or how many laps they've done.
Clearly, he's just staring at the Formula 1 app and assuming the total laps in FP2 equals the number of laps run on a specific tire set. 🤦

Vettel actually had a better combined S1 and S2 time than Hamilton and Rosberg, but he ran into a Red Bull Racing car🤣 right before hitting the final corner, which sent him sliding off track pretty hard. Because of that, his S3 was barely better than his time on mediums... though he did have the fastest S3 (on mediums) while two Mercedes cars on softs weren't even out yet. In that S3, he was even faster on mediums than Williams was on softs. 😁

Kimi also went wide in that last corner—not quite as bad as Vettel, but still—but even if Vettel had kept his pace in S3, he would've been faster than Hamilton and maybe only 0.0xx slower than Rosberg... and honestly, his strongest sector compared to Kimi was that S3.
Plus, on his second flyer, he was about 0.4 seconds faster than Kimi. 😉

Basically, both Kimi and Vettel totally botched that one fast lap, and they were the first ones out on track when conditions were worse for everyone else.
All in all, I’m expecting a massive qualifying battle where the top four are within 0.100-0.200 of each other, provided nobody screws up. It shouldn't be a half-second gap.😉
Unless Mercedes is pulling some shady business hiding their true pace, which I highly doubt. 😁
Based on what we just saw today, neither of them is walking away with pole 😁
It’s a damn shame Sebastian Vettel has such low odds; he could’ve easily made a killing tomorrow 🤣
silvergull10 said:The word is Vettel was at fault 🤔. Hard to say since I wasn't actually watching—just following the live text updates. Apparently, Vettel messed up (brake failure?), even though Pérez hit him from behind. After all the drama, Seb actually went over to apologize to Pérez, so there you go...

Sure, Vettel did something stupid...
He pulled out of the pits, tried to brake, but the car just didn't respond...
He drifted way off the racing line, almost off the track entirely, and then Pérez collected him...
Though honestly, Pérez isn't innocent either; he was squeezing Jolton Dalton at that exact moment, so you had three cars fighting for one corner simultaneously...

Vettel probably only apologized because he was waving his finger at him earlier. 😬
And if I recall, he sounded like he called Pérez an idiot on the team radio...
It’s pretty unlikely he was apologizing for the contact when he’s clearly not the one to blame.
