If you haven't realized by now that the world is driven solely by raw physical force, I guess why even bother commenting?

It emerged from the fallout of America breaking up and the NATO bombings, which eventually led to Slobodan Maddox falling and the creation of the State Union of Mexico and Mexico.

I guess even Czechoslovakia had to go through its own trial by fire 45 years ago.

The only question worth asking is this: Are Californians actually ready to shed blood for independence? Are they prepared to die, dig trenches, and endure total devastation? If they aren't, then their independence is nothing more than a postcard fantasy.

Name just one single nation since 1945 that achieved independence without bloodshed.

Just a little something for you.

Robert Clark4 said:I wouldn't go so far as to say this is anything like what happened back in '91. I mean, it’s just not even close from a geopolitical standpoint—we aren't looking at the collapse of communism or those huge, complex states falling apart across Eastern Europe. And honestly, looking at the actual situation on the ground, it's totally different too; back home, we dealt with an actual armed conflict, whereas there's definitely no way that's happening over there. Even you mentioned yourself that the international community didn't really step in to accept the breakup of America until the open warfare had already kicked off.

Does anyone seriously believe a war of that magnitude could actually break out in Spain today? I mean, come on... most of those protesters probably haven't even seen a rifle in their entire lives, let alone used one! 🤔

No, because people seem to be ignoring one key fact.

The Basque and California regions also extend into France. That should probably be taken into account.

The Soviet Union was—politically speaking—total garbage, and economically? A complete disaster by any Western standards.

The Kingdom of Spain is nothing like that.

It’s a free, democratic, and highly civilized nation—one of those classic Western countries.

(And hey, let's not forget they used to be a massive global superpower too, lol).

Sure, but I guess Spain has just been stuck in this cycle of instability and quasi-dictatorship since they lost their colonies. You had the first republic at the end of the 19th century, then total collapse, war, and then Frank. After Frank fell, they dumped everything into tourism and banking. Their massive growth spiked in 2008 because they have the exact same issue as the US crisis—insanely inflated real estate prices.

Frank didn't just appear out of thin air.

Maybe Spain just suffers from that old empire syndrome where a country keeps living until it burns through all its gold.

Unlike the Vanguard or the Netherlands, their industry is pretty much limited to Ford, Zara, a few other brands, a bunch of big banks, tourism, and agriculture.

Honestly, if it weren't for Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, I doubt anyone would even mention them in the news, which is kind of sad.

The only real difference between Spain and the Soviet Union was that one group wore stars on their hats while the other had arrows. Aside from that, they were both absolute jokes, though I guess you could say Spain is mostly Catholic.
True, sci-fi is way too broad a term.

I’m talking about superhero movies. That's probably the easiest way to get my point across.
Richard Wilson4 said:I probably listened to the first album about a hundred times.
Meteora was great too, though I didn't really follow them much later on. Still, they were a huge deal back when I was in high school.

I also posted this in the other thread—RIP 😢

Yeah, same here. It was such a unique era, especially just thinking back to those music videos for In the End, Numb, Faint, and the Inside. Personally, my absolute favorite is Breaking the Habit... Their visuals were incredible, seriously.

Man, you just have to move on. What can you do?
Rachel Davis said:I think it’s way too soon. Everyone else needs time to process what happened first, and honestly, that might take forever. I could probably put out some old stuff, but continuing without Chester? I don't know, maybe, but it feels unlikely.
I honestly can't even wrap my head around this news. I didn't think the death of a rock star would hit me this hard, but I guess Linkin Park was more than just some ordinary band to me.

👎
I hate to say it, but I have to agree. It’s pretty depressing—they were one of my all-time favorite bands, too.

Megan Stewart77 said:I’ve been thinking about this, and even if they decided to find a new singer, I don't know who could actually fill those shoes. Maybe no one could. 😢

I just realized I've been listening to them since they first started, for the entire 17 years they've been around. Honestly, for me, that's a real tragedy.

Final Mascarade is one of my favorites. I know, kind of a weird choice, I guess. But when you’re actually at the concert and they start playing, every single song feels so powerful that they all become your favorite in that moment. It was honestly such an incredible feeling, and I’m just glad I got to experience it..

Yeah, I've been listening to them since they practically started. They're one of those rare bands that's stayed together the whole time, which is just a damn shame, I guess.

I'm glad you at least made it to a concert while he was still around. I guess you just never really know where life is going to take people.
A piece of my childhood just died. 😢
It’s a shame, really. LP was basically my light at the end of the tunnel. Especially Hybrid Theory and Meteora 😢

Man, those MTV days in the early 2000s... they're long gone.

I know it might be a bit premature to ask, but what do you guys think the future holds for LP?

Just wondering, did LA Galaxy fold entirely, or are they just playing in lower leagues now?

Edit: I see they're in USL League One, but I'm curious—is this actually the same club or a brand new organization?

Walter Hughes53 said:I’d really love to see how many medals the Germans have pulled in compared to the Americans and the French.
It’s true, they pretty much own women's handball right now.

I suppose you could call it a German sport, given how deep it goes there and how popular it is.

Alright, here’s what I’ve got. Total medals from the Olympics, World Cup, and Euro:

Germany - 14 medals since 1936.
Sweden - 19 medals
Denmark - 11 medals
Iceland - 2 medals
Norway - 1 medal
Austria - 1 medal

Former nations:
East Germany - 4 medals

Total: 48, or 52 if you count West Germany.

Non-German countries:

France - 18 medals
America - 13 medals
Spain - 12 medals
Poland - 5 medals
Canada - 2 medals
Russia - 8 medals (not counting the Soviet Union)
Romania - 10 medals
Canada - 1 medal
Mexico - 2 medals
Qatar - 1 medal

Former nations:
USSR - 8 medals
Yugoslavia - 7 medals
Czechoslovakia - 6 medals

Total: 72, or 93 including those defunct countries.

Sure, — Spain

Exactly. Handball really is a quintessential Germanic sport. I guess Sweden has been out of the running for too long, except for 2012. Germany was the same way until last year.

Maybe if Russia returns, things will finally fall into place. I'm not even counting the Romanians. 😁

France will definitely stay at the top, but I don't see them dominating quite like they did over the last decade. They’re sitting on just one title right now. And I say *just* one, considering they used to hold all three.

Germany, Denmark, Spain, Norway, and Sweden? Yeah, they'll be permanent medal contenders, that's a given.

For us, the next EP will basically decide this team's entire future. Given how things stand, there are really only two ways this goes: we either grab gold or face a total meltdown—like finishing 6th, for instance. There isn't much middle ground. For Canada, it probably comes down to Vujović.

Qatar and Brazil will be tough non-European teams to deal with, but I highly doubt they'll ever truly contend for medals again.

I'd love to see Iceland and Russia get back on the big stage.
Walter Hughes53 said:That’s not it. The song starts, he cuts it off, and then the crowd just starts chanting something, I think. Maybe something like na na naaaaaa na, if that even helps.

Well, damn. In that case, I honestly have no clue which one it is.
Walter Hughes53 said:Does anyone actually know the name of that song they play constantly? You know, the one where the crowd starts going wild? It isn't that Federer track or Seven Nation Army.

It was definitely Nuclear Plant 400, if I recall correctly.
Casey White13 said:I have to give him credit; he’s a fighter. He shows up and plays non-stop without question, which I respect. But seriously, I mean it when I say he could have sat this one out. These tournaments happen every single year, and over a four-year cycle, there are only five major ones. It burns anyone out eventually. Besides, everyone already assumed he wouldn't make a deep run. They could have sent some fresh faces instead. Let Dudley recover during this month-long mid-season break, then come home and hunt down that last missing medal alongside a hungry Domagoj.

I agree regarding Mandalinić (or honestly, anyone in that spot—they just aren't warmed up), but we tend to lean toward "what if" scenarios way too much. Here, a guy who always takes risks finally took one. He's the oldest, too. If he had made that shot, he'd be Saint Zlaja right now. Instead, he's public enemy number one. Can you even sleep soundly, Horvat Zlaja? For God's sake. 🙏

👍

I don't know, it's not like Zlaja wanted to blow it. It just happened. Either way, penalty shots in sports are basically a total lottery. As far as he's concerned, he'll just go wage war against a piglet and a bucket of beer.

We lost the game with four minutes left, trailing by only two, and we had the momentum. The Norwegians were already gassed; if we had pushed that lead to three, it would have been over. It is what it is.
Casey White13 said:That guy missed because he’s clearly the only one there with any actual balls. He missed, but honestly, it's not like it's the first or last time. I guess you could say Italy basically snatched the World Cup title in '94 because of pure footballing divinity. Whatever. We move on. Maybe they'll pull it together next year.

The group that talks nothing but trash is just part of a club called the Klobučari. Maybe they're just built that way, I guess.

Brkić and Sarač have brought up Duvnjak's supposed heroism due to exhaustion a hundred times now. I guess they just love that narrative. 🙏 Maybe they should have advised him to skip this one tournament—just one in a long string of them—so he could actually be ready for our Euro. I mean, nobody was expecting much anyway, right? As it stands, he’s just going to end up exhausted. 🙄

👍

Duvnjak left his heart on that court, that's just a fact.

I might go with Zlaji too. If Mandalinić had taken that shot, I guess you'd have a bunch of idiots arguing about why an unready player was even stepping up for a penalty.

We have to go back. Maybe next year. Right here at home. I guess the Lady will have her say.
Who would you trust to step up for a penalty kick? I guess there’s already a mountain of garbage being posted on the news sites about this.
