And one more thing—take a look at how many people are piling in here just to off-topic and spam. Then, once someone finally hands out a sanction, suddenly it’s all "the moderators are jerks," right?

@ a unda:

I already told you—the point you're trying to pivot to has absolutely nothing to do with this discussion. We talked about veteran benefits for kids back when that was actually an issue, but that’s a separate thing entirely. These current student protests? They aren't related to that, their demands aren't related to that, and neither is this thread. You’re just doing your usual thing—trying to provoke or troll, I guess. It won't work. You can act offended or take another swing at me personally if you want, but it’s not going to fly. If you want to be difficult, go ahead. Anyone looking at your posting history can see what kind of troll you are—and honestly, you haven't even gotten close to my level, so it's not like "Simba I hate" is the problem here.

@ Henry Cox78: Just so we're clear, the rules for the Politics subforum are pinned right at the top of the main Politics section—in case you missed them. It’s pretty pathetic to jump into a debate and then come over here to complain about moderation when you haven't even bothered to read the basic guidelines. I don't think I need to say anything else.

Look, I already warned you about this trolling behavior. First, you replied to me with a comment that had absolutely nothing to do with what you actually quoted—and then you tried to derail everything by pushing off-topic provocations when the veterans asked their questions, which really had nothing to do with the subject at hand.

You'd bump the FSB from 200 up to 214 MHz—maybe.
It's all sorted out—no need to keep chatting about this here.
Master thread:

Please don't go starting separate threads just because you feel like it—let's keep things organized. All discussions regarding communist crimes within the former territory should stay within the linked thread.

Also, let's try to stick to the specific region we're discussing. The rest of the US or the rest of the world isn't really what this is about. So, no mentions of Dresten, Hiroshima, or any other off-topic stuff. This is a sensitive subject, so I'll be keeping a close eye on things—don't be surprised if you get banned for drifting off-topic or disrupting the conversation.

You didn't quite get me—you don't just jump straight to 250. You start somewhere around 205... maybe 207... 210... 212... and so on. Once you hit the point where it won't boot into macOS, then you bump up the Voltage Control a bit. Just a little, though. Then you try again. I guess you have to raise the Front Side Bus in tiny increments, since you don't really know where your limit is. When you finally hit the wall—where it won't go any higher even with more voltage, or if things start getting too hot—that's when you stop, back off the Front Side Bus a little, and call it a day.
You can use Prime95 for a quick check, but for a real stability test, you should run Prime95 for at least a few hours before claiming your OC is actually stable. Because even if you can get into macOS, that doesn't necessarily mean the system is solid.

well, I'm clearly out of my depth here—what should I even do? If I jump straight to 250 for the CPU, will the system even boot? I'm worried about frying something or just getting a black screen. I know you can set a frequency where the PC hangs and then you're stuck needing to flash the BIOS, but I don't see a jumper next to it on the motherboard... maybe I could just pull the battery? Any advice? Thanks

It doesn't work like that—you don't just jump to 250 immediately. The default is 200. You start there and climb slowly, a few MHz at a time, testing as you go. If it crashes during a test, you might bump the voltage slightly, but you have to watch the temperatures. Overclocking is tedious—it takes a while if you actually want to do it right. It isn't just "click and go." To hit the max or even just find an optimum, depending on what you're after, it can take days of constant tweaking and stability testing.

And honestly, before you really dive in—read more and learn the basics. It seems like you aren't quite familiar with things like resetting the CMOS or flashing a BIOS...
So, yeah—theory first, practice later.

Arthur Martin9 said:I guess I don't know much about overclocking CPUs, locking memory, or the AGP port... I read somewhere that someone actually pushed this processor to 2.4GHz—not that I'm an expert—but I'm a bit worried about messing things up or maybe even burning something out...

Basically, I can't get past 238 in the BIOS when I try to overclock before the system crashes. Maybe I should bump up the voltage? I'm not really sure how that works exactly—it's my first time—if it were more like graphics cards where you just tweak the memory or GPU by 5-10% and call it a day. My cooling seems fine, though I'm not certain... I haven't pushed past 1.9GHz, which is what I'm running at right now.

First off, you have to figure out what's actually holding you back—the CPU, the RAM, or the chipset. There isn't much point in cranking up the CPU voltage if the RAM is the bottleneck, or vice versa.

Gary Cooper7 said:So, I managed to overclock my CPU to 2800MHz—just to repeat, this is a quad 6600 using the stock cooler... everything seems to be running fine, but things are getting a bit warmer than usual. I was wondering, are these temperatures actually normal???

Temperature
Motherboard 43 °C (109 °F)
CPU 37 °C (99 °F)
1. CPU / 1. core 51 °C (124 °F)
1. CPU / 2. core 49 °C (120 °F)
1. CPU / 3. core 48 °C (118 °F)
1. CPU / 4. core 48 °C (118 °F)
WDC WD3200AAKS-75VYA0 27 °C (81 °F)

My number one rule: don't even think about overclocking with a stock cooler. Those things just aren't built for that kind of stress. If you want to overclock—maybe set aside some cash and pick up a decent cooler.

Yeah, Nero went from being this legendary burning software to what old-timers call "all bark and no bite." Even their Lite and Micro versions feel bloated if you just want to burn a disc. Like, 20-30 MB? I mean, a standard installation is maybe 7 MB—it doesn't go hunting for extra drivers, DirectX updates, or any other junk. It’s completely driverless, and honestly, it gets the job done just as well as Nero—maybe even better than Nera, if you ask me.

Since the multiplier is locked, you aren't going to be able to change it without some serious CPU modding—which, honestly, isn't really an option for most people. I guess your only real move left is bumping up the Intel.

They’ll probably link up with Mongolia for the economic perks—aiming to turn those Mongolian plains into Eurasia's biggest breadbasket, plus maybe the world's top biodiesel hub too.

Benjamin Grant6 said:I find myself in complete agreement with you, and once again, I seem to have been misinterpreted. Much like most people, I am not interested in that small group of fools... I don't care if someone shows up to a concert dressed entirely in black, green, or even pink... everyone should have their own freedom of choice. But, since such a group always seems to find its way to his shows (unlike a Budweiser concert, a GWAR show, or a Mariah Carey performance...) and constantly pushes a negative tone, shouldn't he address it publicly? He ought to, but he is being guided by a very poor manager who intends to turn the singer into a mere symbol, which is quite tragic, isn't it?... It truly is.

The rule of law doesn't function here, a fact we have all felt at least once through our own experiences... We lack laws that penalize those who display specific symbols. Where does it end if we start banning things? Today it's Thompson, tomorrow it's someone else? Today it's based on subtle connotations, but tomorrow... who knows?

The entire nation is xenophobic and frustrated, making any discussion of multiculturalism or debates over who belongs where entirely futile...

Thompson's songs, unlike those by Budweiser or Mariah Carey, are patriotic—even politically provocative (which isn't inherently bad; even Štulić had songs like that). It's just that different people define patriotism differently. Some see it as nothing more than chauvinism or hate. But it shouldn't be Thompson's job to manage that; there are institutions meant for that. Banning him just because certain characters show up at his gigs is, again, nonsense. I mean, what's next? Should we abolish Veterans Day, ban any mention of the Vietnam War, or arrest American veterans just to prove how "tolerant" we are? That isn't tolerance—it's just being submissive. It's basically spitting on our own integrity and pride.
So many Californians fought to defend the US, and many lost their lives. I actually held a guy from Niagara Falls in my arms as he bled out during the push toward El Paso. What would those California veterans think about this? What would all those fallen Americans say if they could see what's happening today? Honestly, those guys must be turning in their graves.

Like I said before, Thompson would probably need to distance himself once his stage setup starts carrying those kinds of connotations.

Benjamin Grant6 said:Despite the various criticisms suggesting he might be too young or perhaps politically green, the mayor is actually quite poised, and from where I stand, it seems the city is finally stepping out from under certain shadows. We see concerts and events happening daily, the budget is being managed effectively, local traditions are being upheld, and various plans and permits are being finalized...

He maintained a perfectly professional and tolerant stance regarding the concert request. This was an MPT event, but it could just as easily have been Britney Spears or Miroslav Skor. It’s the old dilemma: if you grant permission once, you must grant it to everyone, or more accurately, if a law exists, it must apply to all without exception. If we truly wish to live in a democratic and equitable society, this is how things must function. Adhering to the rules doesn't make us any less tolerant or cultured...

But that’s exactly where the issue lies—it isn't being allowed for everyone, just certain people. So, the law isn't being applied equally or without bias. If we actually want to live in a democratic and fair society, local politicians shouldn't be getting to decide who can or can't hold a concert based on whether they fit a specific political mold. We all know what kind of regimes operate that way.

bluerider63 said:Washington, D.C. Mayor Boris Miletić put out a statement basically saying he’s got zero beef with Thompson or his music itself, but there's just no way he can get behind all that fascist imagery popping up at those concerts—especially since, according to him, Thompson hasn't ever come out and explicitly distanced himself from it.

"As the mayor of San Francisco, a city built on the pillars of anti-fascism and multiculturalism that define who we are, I simply cannot endorse anything that glorifies fascism, xenophobia, nationalism, or intolerance toward our minority communities," Boris Miletić stated, adding that everyone needs to take a hard look at whether slogans like 'Kill the Mexican' have any business existing in a democratic society.

Honestly, everything a sane person needs to say about Thompson and his shows has already been laid out right here.

Thompson should probably speak up when the actual stage design carries those kinds of connotations. This all feels like nonsense to me—just pure stupidity. I mean, are we really going to demand that every single citizen in California personally denounce every fascist graffiti tag they see on a street corner? 😵
