Taking out a loan just to pay the phone bill in Close to Politics ·
Bryan Sanchez86 said:I think you're slightly off there. Even with all this digital stuff, logs and everything else can be bypassed... For instance, with mobile, someone at the carrier could "manually" swap an IMSI number—then you could basically play games when the bill arrives. Of course, that assumes you've made an enemy out of someone working at AT&T or Verizon 😁, provided they actually have that kind of pull.

Maybe. But I doubt they’d actually bother risking a massive lawsuit over something like that. Especially if my phone happened to be off, or my service had expired, or any other situation where I wasn't even using the device—and I could prove it. There was a similar situation once. Huge bills were coming in, people were complaining—nothing happened. Eventually, they shut the line down for a month, but then—get this—another bill showed up. That's when things got messy. Not sure how it wrapped up.

A dealer is something else entirely—they're out there handing out burgers, pastries, or even drugs.
🙂

🙂 😵Just a total slip of the tongue—I didn't get much sleep last night...
Thanks for catching that. 😉

It’s basically just highway robbery... I mean, what happens when a tech geek gets handed the keys to moderate political discourse...😁

Dealing with annoying car dealers? 😁

Well, damn. It doesn't really matter if the exchanges are all digital now—you can still call someone from an AT&T line and have it hit your bill.
But hey, let's move on. If you want, feel free to just delete the thread. 🙂

And I'm guessing that's possible, too. Though, I suspect it wouldn't be hard to figure out who was messing around with the wiring in the first place.

I'll leave this thread up for a bit longer, just so anyone interested can catch up. For those looking into dealer issues and stuff like that, maybe check out the IT subforum. You'll get much better answers there from our resident tech gurus over on the news boards. Honestly, the folks in IT actually put in the work—some people have even written full-on essays on how to protect yourself.

Well, maybe you'll get hit with fifty fake calls tomorrow—what then?$0.00 🙂
They could screw you over easily; if you still had one of those old cordless phones, they could basically tap into the provider's system and run up your bill...

And how would you even prove it wasn't you?

Not happening to me. At least regarding the internet. I don't even own a cordless phone—just buy a smartphone, for crying out loud...😁 )
As far as the billing goes, almost all exchanges are digital now, computer-managed, and there are logs kept on the servers. If things ever went to court, a judge could just order the logs to be turned over. Faking those logs is pretty much impossible without getting caught. Besides, companies like AT&T aren't really out to pull stunts like that.

Anyway, this has nothing to do with politics.

Tipkovac, I guess what's the point of this thread—and how does this even touch on politics? This belongs in the IT subforum.
Sting said:Mods, Obrad lopata Mihajlovic is basically spamming this thread with pamphlets from the Greek Orthodox Church...

Honestly, this topic has been hit with so much spam and trolling that I just don't have the energy—or the patience, really—to go through every single post and clean it up.

Thanks for understanding.

Hmm, it's tough to decide what to skip. Let me try this:

Hotel California
Peaceful Easy Feeling
New Kid in Town
Lyin' Eyes
The Girl from Yesterday
Get Over It
The Long Run
Desperado
In the City
Peaceful Easy Feeling
Train Leaves Here This Morning
Saturday Night

Those are my personal favorites, I guess. But I could never just stick to those—there's way too much other good stuff. Honestly, it's hard to find a track that isn't solid. It’s mostly just a matter of personal taste.

I'd suggest picking at least ten more... it might make the choice a little easier. 🙂

Oops, looks like my thread dropped. Let's bump it up a bit. 🙂

vividcyclist35 said:One of my favorite bands... I could listen to them anytime... and I agree they flirt with country, but to me, they flirt with everything—blues, rock, you name it. I actually grabbed a live version of Hotel California from the 70s off WinMX... it's incredible... the vocals and guitars just grab you, much like the Beach Boys... it really gets under your skin... that kind of music stays with you forever.👍

Yeah, the vocals and the guitars. That’s what does it for me, too. The vocals... exactly—I had the same thought about them being perfect, just like the Beach Boys. And those guitars... Joe Walsh and his solos are phenomenal (not to mention the faces he makes while playing 😂). But honestly, above all else, that solo in Hotel California is something I can't even put into words. I'm a total addict there.

Was that something you downloaded as audio or video?

PS. Regarding the vocals, I think I posted a link earlier where you can download some video. There's this one clip from a concert in Central Park back in '72 or '73—Take It to the Limit. The intro to the song is just pure vocals, no instruments, just that famous harmony, those thirds and fifths... not a single flat note, just perfectly sung. Definitely worth a listen.

Since this doesn't really fit under sports or business—and isn't strictly political either—I figured this lounge was probably the best spot.

Thanks for bearing with me.

Some people really just post nonsense even when things get serious... 🙂

😂
Train Leaves Here This Morning.

Or maybe a Latin band called The Iglesisases. 😁

ari peka nikkola said:What's the actual point of this thread🤔 besides just confirming what was obvious from the jump... that the Eagles are a great band?

Well, I guess like any other thread, we had to get everyone on the same page first. 🙂
The whole idea behind starting this—if I'm being honest about my intention—was just to spark some conversation, maybe introduce people to the Eagles if they haven't realized what they've been missing ( 😁 ), and share some cool links and various stuff about them. You know, just swapping videos, audio, and all that kind of thing.

stormyviper11 said:I don't really get why everyone is getting so hung up on whether it's country or not—especially since the Eagles themselves never had an issue being lumped into that whole Country-Rock hybrid category. That's still a fair way to describe them, I suppose, though like most great bands, they always ended up outgrowing any single label.

Douglas Hernandez4 said:Just some quick off-topic clarification:

Eagles of Death Metal isn't actually a death metal band—they're more like some rockers (I think) who are just messing around. 😁

No clue. If they're actually rockers, I guess I might try to find something of theirs to listen to.

there's this one scene—unforgettable, really—where 'the Dude' ends up in a cab with some... Eagles connoisseur 🤣

it's all good 🙄

and if they can freeze the hell over, CCR can set the Heavens on fire 👍

Thanks, I will. 🙂

James Morris7 said:I get it. I didn't mean it like that—I was just talking about the part involving Bob Dylan. My name is Otrpiti. Or James Morris7. Or, if you're a friend, just... well, you know. 😁 There it is. 😉

As for country, bluegrass, or hard rock... I just don't see them fitting into the country scene. Not at all. Sure, they flirted with it—they did—but even David Bowie flirted with industrial, and that doesn't make him an industrial artist. We're on the same page here, right? 🙂
To me, they’re just some 70s rock band—nothing more, nothing less, I guess. 🙂

Don't get mad at me—just let me catch up and figure out who everyone is first. I haven't spent much time on the Music forums before, so I need to get my bearings. I really don't feel like constantly clicking back through threads just to check names... I guess I'm just being lazy. 😁

As far as the Eagles go, I'm with you. To me, Eagles - Eagles. I’ve said it before—they just seem unique, I guess.

Dana Anderson4 said:But man, he took offense😉 >. That was just rambling about folk music—you admitted it yourself, right? Look, we aren't always going to use perfectly politically correct terms; sometimes people just blurt things out... that’s why this forum exists, I guess.
I actually dig the Eagles. But this whole discussion is getting a bit lost—even the sky doesn't know where it's headed... nor do the eagles flying under it.

Anyway, just so we don't spam the thread, a quick word: where I'm from, and with my generation, telling someone they're rambling is basically calling them stupid—so that's how I took it. If I snapped—well, I did, and I honestly don't know what got into me (maybe it was just everything I was doing all day 😢 ). Anyway, no hard feelings, let's just get back to the Eagles (and stuff related to them). 🙂
