Why was this thread locked twice? - Politics in Feedback & Suggestions ·

Question; why the lock?

You started a thread about some comment by Dujmović without even providing a link to the actual piece. Based on how you summarized it, it's hard to tell what actually happened. It’s a bit vague.
Also, you posted this in the wrong section. Threads about specific people belong in the political scene section. Look, if you want to start a discussion about a commentator like Dujmović, that’s fine by me. But let's keep it broad rather than fixating on just one single article. And maybe try to make a bit more sense, please.
350 points - mass ban evasion and partial ban in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Daniel Ward87 said:Jason Campbell70, I’m the admin handling your case. I spent some time over the weekend digging through your threads and posts to get the full picture. After three days of reading, I totally get why you caught a flag for "trolling," even though I’m not usually one for stacking up penalties. Back in the day, as a moderator, I might have docked someone 100 points just for their "overall vibe," but that was pretty rare. I don't follow Formula 1 religiously and I'm not an expert on everything, but I respect that people experience it differently, and that friction can definitely cause tension. In your case, my hand was practically itching to reach for the penalty button while I was reading your stuff, mostly because of how much you tend to spit venom using those (un)selected words. People might call me a Boy Scout for saying this, but honestly, I've been in enough dive bars in the middle of nowhere to know that even there, folks don't talk like this.

The way you interact with other users here just cranks up the heat and baits people into reacting to you. Because of that, I completely see why you were hit with the partial ban. If I were in your shoes, I'd be asking for the same thing. What makes me feel solid about the moderator's decision is when you said, "If they aren't capable, or if it's too hard for them to deal with my forum style (or anyone else's, doesn't matter), then it's obvious what they need to do." You're right—they know exactly what to do. They give you the partial ban. And look, even if you're an expert in your field, I don't think the others lack the ability to handle different personalities online. Even if they are part of the issue, you're the other half of it. You claim the last six months have been your "cleanest" stretch? Honestly, it scares me to think what you write when you're actually being messy.

Taking everything into account, the only thing I’d consider adjusting is docking 350 points for the trolling. As for the partial ban, looking at your history on the Formula 1 board, I stand by the decision and the explanation you've already received. Regardless of what you think of the mods over there, that kind of behavior wouldn't last long anywhere else, whether you have specialized knowledge or not. That’s not an excuse to let you off the hook.

That said, there's a new crew running the Formula 1 board now, and they have every right to reconsider the ban. Whatever they decide, I'll back them up. For now, your partial ban stays in place.

I actually already posed that question to the guys, and they stuck to their decision. Still, it isn't out of the question that they might revisit the whole thing down the road.
Apologies, but Anderlon hasn't quite made it back from outer space yet, so we're going to have to push back the results announcement for a little while.
F1 drama: Can we please just get some fair officiating for once? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
feralotter2 said:Sorry about that. The first post was penalized after the fact. Initially, it was just a yellow card without points, meaning the mods caught the violation... but honestly, it’s absurd when you think about it. Someone else made a much bigger mess by rambling in the wrong thread, yet here we are, dealing with someone talking in the Visa thread instead. Just pure nonsense.
Anyway, Ryan Vaughn7, now that you know how things actually went down, please give us your take again.

At the end of the day, the post was handled fairly. I don't mind at all if a moderator changes their mind or decides later on that a harsher penalty was necessary. It happens to everyone. It's happened to me, too.

The rules aren't consistent across every single subforum, but that's nothing we haven't seen before.
The application period has officially closed.

You haven't changed one bit in the four months since you started betting on MLS. If anything, you seem even worse now that you've gone and picked up a gambling habit for politics, too. There really isn't any reason for us to bring you back.

No.

That was a very fair and thorough explanation from the moderator. I honestly don't have anything else to add.

then we have Mather's nonsense right in the middle of the designated chat topic. 35 points and he's headed for a ban.

Can someone sane explain how this point system actually works?

I'm not sure if I count as "sane," but I'll give it a shot. In the meantime, that first post was flagged and handled—that's settled. Moderators can't catch everything instantly. Second, while chat threads tend to be moderated a bit more leniently, they aren't exempt from the general forum rules. Mather's post crossed the line from joking around into straight-up insults.
To be blunt, yeah, we’re definitely short on staff. We could probably use another moderator, maybe two. We’re working on it. It’s a slow process, I know—it’s taking its sweet time—but things will eventually fall into place. And honestly, thanks for the suggestions, really. But none of those names are new to us; we’ve either already turned them down or they’re already being considered.
Ronald Hall said:We’re all standing here with Robert Torres... man, this guy Taylor Thompson4 really needs to step up and get things under control over at the local precinct ☕

They asked him, but he won't.
David Anderson72 said:Why don't the mods and supermods receive post reports as direct messages regarding the specific topics you're assigned to handle?

As for candidates, I suggest Blay, Barhan, Anthony Jackson2, Imran, or someone covering Serie A who isn't a troll. They just need to be impartial; the VRM/VB crowd wouldn't make very good choices.

It’ll show up, but it’s going to hit the email address you used to sign up. I don't exactly have that inbox open all day, refreshing it every few seconds. If I'm online, I see the forum notifications immediately. I was actually just here, but I got sucked into a political thread. ambertinker41 caught my attention on the forum, and before I knew it, the Hamza and Resurrection threads were ancient history.

placidfalcon4 said:Give Casey White13 and Ronald Hall an amen. They've probably got two red cards between them anyway—not that they care, since they follow every single game regardless.

Ronald Hall won't budge, and they wouldn't have any part of Casey White13 either.
Richard Morales79 said:I’d like to put forward a few suggestions—neonfalcon16, my dear friend, Taylor Thompson4, Blay/boldhound8/Ronald Hall, and analoggull4/Casey White13.

Oh, and let’s not forget Johnny Doe; his arguments are always well-reasoned, none of that nonsense...

Honestly, they’d probably all try to ban you before you even finished saying Christian's name.
David Anderson72 said:The moderation on these boards is slipping, isn't it? ☕
Someone needs to appoint more active users to the moderator team, because this current situation has become laughable...
We want elections!

Just shoot me a private message if there’s an emergency. Same goes for everyone else.
Personally, I’d rather keep them separate. It’s fine by me if we let Pele and Maradona stand on their own, regardless of how much the conversation wanders off track.

Off-topic: When exactly are we going to open the thread for the Champions League? Since the playoffs are basically part of the main tournament anyway—which is why they don't even call them qualifiers anymore—it feels like we're just stalling...
Everything is already under the watchful eye of UEFA now. They’ve standardized the kickoff times, they’ve got PlayStation advertisements plastered right next to the pitch... honestly, maybe it's finally time to start a dedicated thread for this... 🤷

Well, I suppose I got chewed out.

As far as I'm concerned, you can go ahead and open it right away, my dear sports fan.
Casey White13 said:Where did graniteangler31 go, and why isn't he moderating anymore?

Honestly, I have no clue where he is. As for the moderator gig, he was pretty adamant about stepping down. He just didn't want the job anymore.
Unfortunately, no. You honestly can't even begin to imagine the kind of headache this is causing me right now.
Hey everyone, just a heads-up. Moving forward, we’re going to be scrubbing any photos from the entire forum that show female nipples, butts, or genitals. Google pulled our ad revenue because of this stuff, and frankly, it puts the whole site at risk. So, I’m asking you all—please, just don't post those kinds of images anymore.
