Looking for info: if you know any coaches, prices, and the pros and cons of both sports🙂

Honestly, it doesn't even matter which one. Both of them are absolute trash. 😉

Absolutely nothing left to say. Period.

I'm 14 years old and I want to start training MMA. Is there a club in the Chicago area near Midway that I could train at?

There's "Leon Gym" over at the old training spot now. It's right by the tennis courts near the old Kraš plant.

Plus, you've got two clubs over in Dubrava... Ban and Extreme Cro Team.

The truth is, there’s no such thing as a perfect fighter. 😉

Just head over to a Muay Thai camp and give it everything you've got.

Sam Roberts said:how is that even the same crew??

Seriously, you have no clue... I just heard it from a buddy who thinks Kenut is involved, and that's really all I know.

Even if you're feeling pressed for time, try to carve out a moment to go check out at least two different gyms.
Everyone says the local YMCA is a solid club.
As for Gold's Gym, I honestly can't say.

From what I know, TRenk folded and now there's some place called Leon Gym there.

I think they do MMA and Muay Thai, if I heard that right.

Zachary Mendoza17 said:Man, you’re basically living right outside our club's MMA gym.

With a club like that, you simply cannot go wrong. Take a trip to see them; you won't regret it. Trust me. 😉

It’s that close, but it’s just NOT.

Not even close!

You've actually got a Muay Thai club called "Mustang" over in the Gajnice neighborhood here in the States.

Anywhere, really.

What a jerk,🤦

I've always wondered what actually drives someone to trash talk athletes.

It’s most likely just pure jealousy and the fact that they can't achieve anything meaningful in their own lives.

Sam Roberts said:That’s not really healthy. Better to just fix your diet and hit the gym in some lightweight gear...

Exactly.

If you dress in heavy layers or use those special sauna suits, you're really just wasting water.

Sure, you sweat a ton, but you aren't actually burning fewer calories.

Like Sam Roberts said, you'll lose more weight the right way.

I think the Božić brothers just opened up a club over in Oranice

That was Vlado Božić’s take, I believe, during an interview with ProFightStore

I'm talking about boxing, obviously

Robert Chavez55 said:I’m always chatting with my buddies about combat sports, and we’ve hit this wall: apparently, there aren't any gyms in the greater D.C. area—at least none that we know of—that offer regular morning training sessions. It feels like a massive oversight. There are tons of college students hanging around the D.C. metro area who have these huge gaps in their schedules before classes start, and having a place to get some healthy movement in would be a game changer. So, I’m putting it out there: if anyone knows of a gym in the D.C. area that runs morning classes for any kind of martial arts, please drop the info. Thanks.

I'm not 100% sure, but back when I used to box over at Gold's Gym, they used to run a BJJ group at the exact same time.

But that was before the summer hit, so it might just be an informal thing they worked out. I can't say for sure if it's an official scheduled class...

If I remember right, some guy going by the name Banky trains there.🤷

Give it a shot, or maybe just give Tiger Gym a call.

Zachary Mendoza17 said:Can you tell me how Šančić did? Thanks.

He lost to Valentic on the judges' decision.

Valentic took the first round, Šančić grabbed the second, and the third was a total toss-up... I'd say Valentic won by a hair because of those solid crosses at the end (that’s just my take, though).

As far as the actual fighting goes, Spiric is a top-tier technician with some super heavy hands. I really loved watching him work. It's a shame he gassed out toward the end, but honestly, I think his win was deserved.

Also, I have to mention Zoray—not that I expected anything less from him... what an absolute beast. It feels like his whole philosophy is just: move forward, move forward, and keep moving forward.😁

Brandon Price6 said:Hey everyone,
I'm looking to get into some kind of martial art.
I’m not really interested in the typical "fitness" stuff—you know, things like aerobics or basic gym workouts. I need something with actual action, something with grit and a bit of an adrenaline rush.

The most important thing for me is that the discipline is well-organized, serious, and runs professionally.
I say that because I’ve been quite active in sports before, and in my experience, if there isn't a solid structure in place, the sport itself usually lacks substance.

Just to give you a little context, I'm 30 years old and living in a big city like Chicago. I'm also carrying about 65 pounds of extra weight right now—though, honestly, I don't look it.😁...so, ideally, I'm looking for programs that are welcoming to older women.

Also, if someone has already asked this exact question, please forgive me; I haven't had the chance to read through the entire thread yet.

Honestly, your best bet is to just go down to a club and talk to the referees directly.😁 😉

They train MMA (that's the stuff Mirko Cro Cop used to do)🤣 over in a local neighborhood gym called the City Athletics Club.

You could totally drop those 65 pounds there.

As for whether they take "older ladies"...🤷

I don't see a post from brane2 in this thread yet. If they just joined or if you're waiting for them to weigh in, I'm ready to jump in once they do! kaže:
Do weight classes based on height? For example, if someone is around 5'9" to 5'11" and weighs about 200 lbs, can they compete in that bracket if their technique is specifically dialed in to handle taller opponents?

Can someone break down the pros and cons of being a shorter fighter versus a taller one? Honestly, my height is the only thing making me hesitate about getting into this.

It’s not about how high you climb—it’s about how much weight you can carry.

The heavy hitters in the MT division definitely have the edge, but there are always outliers. For me, our number one fighter has to be Emil Zoraj. If I remember correctly, he’s about 5'10", and man, that guy is an absolute beast. Just a total animal in there.

If you're sitting at about 198 pounds and 5'11", you’re definitely going to run into those fighters who stand 6'3" or even taller. I mean, sure, you'll face shorter guys too, but that's just how it goes.

If you aren't willing to fight, then you just don't give a damn.
Michael Rivera63 said:Man, take care of yourself. Wishing you a super speedy recovery!👍

And hey, aim for 2,200 lbs total eventually!😉

Thanks! Honestly, I'm good if I can hit 1.5x bodyweight bench, 2x bodyweight squat, and 2.5x bodyweight deadlift.
Michael Rivera63 said:And man, Pisarenko is a total legend
absolute beast, weighing in at 130 kg of pure muscle
currently, Rezzazadeh holds the record with about 160 kg of body mass, and his clean and jerk is sitting at 263.5 kg (they wiped the old records when the weight classes changed)

That just shows you what a machine Pisarenko is—he’s 30 kg lighter, yet he’s got a bigger clean and jerk (word is he’s hitting 270 kg in the clean and 280 kg in the jerk during training)

And this guy is an absolute animal too
He's gotta look a little lean; it's not like he's 330 lbs of bulk😁
The guy was just born strong and started training young, which is why his numbers are so insane

Hey, I'm glad if I could motivate you somehow👍
So, what kind of leg injury are we talking about?

Well, I tore my meniscus, but the doc says it's not too bad... I don't need surgery, just physical therapy

Basically, it's hitting the gym hard plus specific exercises with a PT. They say cycling will probably help the most, though; a buddy of mine actually said cycling saved his knee when it went out

Once I get through this, I'm going to dedicate myself more to the Holy Trinity😁 up until now, it's been nothing but bench press
Michael Rivera63 said:this is pure motivation for me

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UURIs159pYI

Honestly, I think I could already out-deadlift this guy... at least compared to what he's pulling in this video. He's way stronger now, but he’s sitting at about 330 lbs 😁 right now

Pisarenko is a total beast

And this kid looks like such a lightweight. He looks like a complete beginner, which is why those weights he's lifting are tripping me out... I've watched a bunch of his videos lately, and man, he's actually really good 🙏

Who knows where he'll be in a few years

I've actually started following this stuff more because of this forum and you

Once my leg is healed, the first thing I'm hitting at the gym is deadlifts😁
