They played that track at the local radio station right as I walked in yesterday.... At first, I actually hated it!!! Then I saw how much people were vibing to it... which honestly made me hate it even more... But lately, I’ve been kind of warming up to it... There’s just something about it...
OF COURSE (!!!) I’d never go out of my way to play it, but if it comes on, I’m not exactly going to plug my ears or change the channel anymore...
And last night proved it’s actually decent for shaking things up a bit... a little dancing won't hurt...😉
I was actually chatting about this with my old lady last night... She goes: "I'd ban Thompson from ever playing a public gig again if I had my way..." Then, two seconds later, she follows up with: "...but what can you even do when the crowd loves him? Absolutely nothing. That's just how things work where we live."
She asked me what I thought about that whole welcome ceremony. My response? "Props to the guys in jerseys, but the whole thing felt forced. Most of those kids there didn't have any sense, so they just used it as an excuse to get trashed and cause trouble." Turns out, I was spot on...
It’s not like I don't drink or mess around myself (should I have mentioned that?), but it was supposed to be a sports event, wasn't it?

Thanks, but no thanks—count me out!!! As soon as I heard, I hopped on the first bus headed straight back home to my bed, and lo and behold, here I am!!!

You just said the exact same thing as Chloe Ross7 (you just added examples to back it up)!!! I'm guessing you mean Colonia and Glupson are the bottom tier of their genre, while Dire Straits and Moloko are actually good!!
I'm with you on this—generalizing is a bad move. Every single genre has its gems and its absolute garbage!!! 👍
But for the record, Thompson isn't a rocker. Having "drums, long-haired guitarists, and a bassist" isn't enough to earn that label in my book. If anyone were to try and categorize him as rock (which I never would), they could only call it ethno-right-wing-quasi-rock!!! 🙂
