Chloe Ross7 said:It really depends on what kind of electronic music you’ve actually listened to and how much you even know about the genre.
Generalizing just doesn't work—every single genre has its trash and its gems.
I completely agree that generalizing is a bad move!
Everything I said about electronic music was based on what I’ve actually heard (obviously), and since I mostly ran into the bottom-of-the-barrel stuff, it totally turned me off. Now I've got these prejudices where I don't even want to give it a chance, even if someone tells me there's good stuff out there.
🙄
Anyway, I’m not as closed-minded as some people out there!!!
If an electronic track has a decent theme, melody, or rhythm, I can tolerate it, but I'm still not exactly putting it on my playlist.
Maybe... someday!
😉
I really dig how you put all that together (seriously, I love the delivery) 👍 , but I’m not totally sold on the actual substance—at least not all of it. I have to admit, a few of those points hit a little too close to home. It's painful, honestly. 😳 😢
That’s true (well, at least the first part)... I was thinking about those high-energy tracks you blast when some tuned-up Chevy Impala flies past you on the highway. I'm talking about the kind of music you can actually live your life to—stuff you can dance to, hum along to, or use to fuel a daydream. It can make you feel happy, or it can fuel a total meltdown (go listen to Atari Teenage Riot - Revolution Action if you want to feel pure revolt). You could be vacuuming the house, cooking dinner, or just sitting there with a cigarette and a Red Bull spiked with vodka, nodding your head to the beat (if that's even a thing—I haven't tried it, but I'll take your word for it). Anyway...
Let's say I actually got everything I ever wanted...
(For once) I'm with you: 🙂 --> at least where you and I are concerned!
Edward Robinson6 said:Why are you obsessing over my first post instead of addressing what I just said? Honestly, you’re clearly running out of steam—get lost, Harold King54.
😲
I literally wrote that right above the part you're reading now. Read closer.
You were almost impressively polite about that—well, mostly—so I’ll give you a proper response!!
BUT THIS ISN'T A THREAD ABOUT ELECTRONIC MUSIC, IT'S A THREAD WHERE WE SHOULD BE DEBATING YOUR TAKE THAT ELECTRONIC MUSIC ISN'T EVEN REAL MUSIC AND HAS ZERO VALUE (seriously though)
Fine, go ahead and argue about electronic music, but I laid my cards on the table right in the first post!!! And BTW, I actually wanted to sit back and listen to arguments defending this stuff that I personally see nothing in. Maybe then I'll finally get why so many people are obsessed with it! My intentions were (mostly) decent, even if I admit I wanted to just watch how people spit on 😳 , but now I feel a bit bad, even if my opinion on the genre hasn't changed yet!!!
-The whole thing about electronic music just repeating the same rhythm and melody over and over? I listen to Daft Punk and Air, so I have no idea what you're talking about.
Have you ever listened to a techno track?! They all sound the same!!
-Ever heard of an electric guitar?
🙂
I'm not sure what you're trying to get at here.
-It's hard for rock bands—well, yeah, but do you realize that how much someone shredded on their guitar doesn't matter whether I listen to them or not? (Is a guitarist hopping on one leg, like me, better than one standing on two legs, like your guy Eric Clapton, just because it's harder?)
I was actually talking about something like this with my guitarist a few days ago! I mentioned that Kurt Cobain had a simple guitar style, and he shot back: "What's better? Those metal guys who struggle through solos, kill themselves on guitars, and sound like crap, or Kurt, who says everything briefly and clearly and sounds way better (to us) than some Maiden guitarist (who I was talking about)..."! He's totally right! If that's what you meant... I agree. But I also agree if you meant it's not about the effort put in, but about the actual result!
I think music is about the IDEA and CREATIVITY expressed in different ways—why limit them?
Sure! But only if that idea turns into something GOOD!!!
-Electronic music generally has way more possibilities than rock.
PERIOD.
-Of course I'm FOR ELECTRONIC MUSIC, just like I'm for rock, punk, HC, or pop. Anything where I feel energy, an idea, or beauty, you know? (I know you know.)
Nice thinking! 👍
-But hey, you can keep listening to those rock bands that play the same thing over and over, throw in a solo (which shreds), then go right back to the same loop, etc., etc...
Thanks, and same goes for your electronic music!!
P.S. Thanks for the recommendation! I'll do my best to give it a listen!
😉
Edward Robinson6 said:My god, moderator, please delete this or move it to the jokes/philosophy/cookbook section (if we even have one) ------Harold King54, you did it again
😁
Yeah, you're absolutely right!!
Electronic music definitely doesn't belong in a music thread!!! It would be way better off in the jokes section!! 😁
Chill out... why wouldn't we have a dedicated thread for electronics?
We already have one for hardware!!!
😕 🙄
...here’s the follow-up to the "recommendations" thread—pages three and four!
I felt like I had to get this going.
Lay it all out for me: give me your best arguments
FOR and AGAINST this "music" (if you can even call it that, but hey...)!
Funky, Mr. Wrong, Morbid Angel, and the rest... let's hear it!
silentpanther15 said:...or take "Black Magic Woman," for example. He definitely made his mark with that one...
That wasn't even his song anyway—it was a Green track (for crying out loud)!!!
Personally, I think the original is way better.
To address the topic:
If you’ve got a spare minute, take a look at the Billboard Top 20—or honestly, any mainstream chart out there. Take a quick note of what they’re calling "music" these days, and it might just give you a massive headache.
And hey, if you’re looking to actually punish yourself, you could always blast some bubblegum pop or whatever Taylor Swift is pushing right now. It’s basically guaranteed to work.
*By "headache," I mean the sheer boredom of listening to people who have zero backbone and just listen to whatever is trending on Spotify because they don't have an ounce of original taste.
I’m falling a little behind... still stuck on Supernatural! That album is an absolute beast.
