You really are... mnemonics.... 😬 I couldn't quite figure out what you actually do for a living... You've got potential for some stuff though... jobs...It’s all about having that high-level memory—you know, being able to pull up data points or spot recurring patterns while you're digging through info or scanning the horizon. It's about taking those tiny little fragments of information—stuff that's sitting right there in plain sight, but most regular folks either miss entirely or forget the second it leaves their radar—and stitching them together into some kind of cohesive theory... even if it’s just my own personal bias. Some kind of statistical model or whatever... I look back at this junk I wrote and, even though I get exactly what I was trying to say at the time... I still find myself...Reading line two twice...I'm trying to crack this code... I guess I’ll have to actually put in the work and dig through all these rambling outbursts to see if I can spot the pattern behind the madness. If I don't pay close attention and just keep scrolling, that whole "yesterday" vibe completely disappears from my radar...

Real subtle. 😬 Most of my favorite people—lots of different types—always hit me with that whole "this too shall pass" wisdom. And yeah, sure, technically true. Everything passes eventually. But honestly, using that as a go-to answer can be totally counterproductive. If everything just disappears and nothing matters in the past, now, or probably the future, someone going through a serious crisis might take that comfort to a wrong conclusion. Or it could just fuel some dangerous, obsessive spiraling...

Honestly, looking back once the fog clears, this isn't even depression anymore. It feels more like sadness and melancholy. But it's one of those... unbearable kinds.

Do you think anyone would ever actually die for love?

Kill yourself for love? That's a massive question. First off, what even is love? What do you need to solve to figure it out? Love from someone else, love for yourself, or some lack of love from anyone...? Personally—and I don't even try—I end up practicing hating more than loving. I find myself there more often. Using hate as a sort of ceiling. Loving always feels selfish to me. A bit possessive. Unconditional, selfless love sounds "heavenly," sure. Maybe the inability to do that is what fuels all this universal hatred. It's hard not to be a data-processing machine. Kill yourself for love? Probably not because of a lack of it, but maybe because you never actually recognize it in reality, only as some mental concept. Never say never, I guess. Though I doubt it. What kind of love-filled seas are we talking about here?...

Where do we draw the line? Or rather, what happens once we cross it? Hmm...

Oak. That line is invisible, but it's definitely there. Some days it "feels" like you're just crawling on the floor, and other days you're deep in thought, thinking, "I can't do this anymore, I need to get up, but what if I just end up back on my knees in a few days..." One day you look at a red coffee mug and convince yourself it's blue, or green... or that the color doesn't even matter. Then the next day, it's strictly red, and it matters too much. You spend the whole damn day spiraling because you can't think about anything else besides that red mug. What dictates those shifts, or how bad they get... honestly, who knows. Maybe it's just brain chemistry... Or maybe not. But only chemistry could be doing that. If it even is...

Just being a realist. 😬 "vanity, definitely my favourite sin." Looking at how things are going, we aren't exactly hitting "heaven" anytime soon...

Underworld or heaven, it’s all the same thing. Just nothing "divine" about it...

silverheron91 said:It's critical. 😬

Nah, it isn't. There’s "critical," and then there’s critical. Both probably get lumped together as critical, sure, but they aren't even close... 😬

silverheron91 said:Yeah. I have a novel out, but you can really only find it in a few libraries or through specific online orders, and honestly, I don't want you to go buying it. Most of my other stuff is tucked away in various magazines and anthologies. But, like I said, I have this weird hang-up about someone reading my "soul." Then again, part of me just wants to be heard. Tell you what, I can send you a sci-fi novella instead; then you can tell me if my writing actually sucks or not.

Depression is... it's just always there. And I deal with panic attacks on top of it. I'm feeling a bit more level-headed right now, so I'm just typing away to try and get my mind off things.

I'd love to. Just shoot me a link in a DM, or whatever. I won't be "peering into your soul" or anything. Just observing, maybe sparking some imagination, sure. Depression is... usually pretty constant, imho? What it carries within itself isn't always the same thing or the same reaction. When things get critical, it's just not worth being. Just like all those other psy-fi (sci-fi) ailments, morebit.

Maybe I am, though I doubt it... actually, could be... 😬

silverheron91 said:It’s basically a critique of fundamentalism, wrapped up in this neo-existentialist sci-fi vibe.

I try to be all edgy and culturally provocative, but honestly? At the end of the day, it usually just boils down to killing off the main characters because of some tragic romance. I'm such a cliché.

Sounds interesting. You mentioned a previous release or something recently, if my memory isn't failing me? Some kind of link to...?
Did that self-destructive, critical phase of depression pass, or at least chill out?

briskwalker10 said:Yeah, I agree—that term doesn't quite capture what he's getting at. I'd call it some kind of... maybe, though I have my doubts... but still.. 🤣

Maybe just pure imagination? (imagination can go anywhere...)

Hey there, little bird. You still alive? Or did you finally snap out of that alternative reality phase?

briskwalker10 said:Telekinesis 🤣

That’s basically what happens when you’re on a telemarketing call, trying to use some mental mojo to convince some old lady she desperately needs an air mattress and an orthopedic pillow from some random factory overseas. "But wait, there's more... if you grab the air mattress and the pillow right now, just for you, today only... we'll throw in these amazing Crocs too..."

Carl Rivera43 said:Back then, I was already getting ready for high school. Life was simple. I’d spend a couple of hours on my bike during the weekends... and the rest of those ten or so hours? Just hanging out by the radio.

I guess I just miss having more energy. More positive stories to tell, better ideas floating around, actual conversations... things like that.

Nostalgia? You sure that's the right word? Isn't it just dwelling on the past... always using it as a way to nitpick the present?

Duh, obviously. A little cynicism never hurt anyone... My question wasn't even targeted at that, it was just about how differently things work within the exact same system. Like, if you're working a register at Walmart or Target, nobody expects a tip. But there’s this unspoken rule where you're basically expected to tip your server at a diner or a restaurant because, well, they rely on it to survive. So why the inconsistency? It's just a thousand different behaviors and "house rules" happening inside one clearly defined system...
