Jack Carter88 said:Thanks, everyone. Cheers to you all!🙂

GricGric, I'm with you there. You have to maintain a positive outlook; if you do, things tend to fall into place. It rained a bit tonight, which is actually quite nice—it means I don't have to worry about watering the garden or the flowers (always looking for the silver lining).

Henry Edwards33, I'm in the exact same boat, staring down a mountain of paperwork to get everything organized under the new sales tax regulations and a whole host of other things.

Anyway, kudos to the group. Everyone here is so hardworking and keeps us all up to date. I haven't had much time to catch up on your posts lately, but from what I can see, we're missing Vitas and Vlado3. Sending my best to them as well.

Looks like they might just be on vacation. 😍

I still find myself missing the people who actually taught me something around here—Dubravka and VTi are the first that come to mind. Honestly, I really miss 😢

GricGric said:Look, I know he’s got a soft spot for you (and honestly, so do I), and he knows it too, so there's no issue here...

Am I right, Dubravka? 😁

Maybe he knows, too—poor guy is stuck dealing with us—but let's not give anyone else any wrong ideas. 😁

Are you actually relaxing, or are you burning your eyes out reading this like an APIS reporter?

Jessica Grant56 said:Seriously, just go on vacation already—get out of here! Though, honestly, it’s pretty overcast where I am right now... might even rain.

I’m just not ready to head out on vacation yet. 🙂
I’ll get all these forms squared away first, and then I can finally sit back and prepare to go head-to-head with the IRS once the new tax changes kick in this July. Luckily, I'm running about a month behind the rest of the country, so I might actually have some breathing room. 😍

Carol Price4 said:Jessica Grant56, do you even sleep?😁

I see you posting in the middle of the night, at the crack of dawn, all afternoon—the only time you’re ever missing is right before evening, so just admit it, that's when you're crashing, 😁

Richard Howard55 and I are total night owls, Henry Edwards33 is strictly a daytime person, and ruggedcyclist74 bounces between late nights and early mornings, but man, you've totally outdone us all...🤣

Man, that guy never sleeps. 😲
I usually end up passing out around midnight. Every single night.

ruggedcyclist74 said:hahaha Dubo, you can clearly see how much you’ve worn out Henry Edwards33 😛

Look, I’m telling you this because I care, but when you look up and see nothing but gray clouds, please don't just mutter about how it's going to rain—instead, try saying, "Look, you can see the sun peeking through those clouds, and it'll be out in no time once they pass by." :-))

My glass is always half full, while yours seems to be perpetually half empty...
If you just shift your perspective, I promise the whole world starts looking a little brighter.

I’m fairly certain that APIS, Carol Price4, and especially Henry Edwards33 will all agree with my little sentiment here 🙂

Sending a greeting your way too, Jack Carter88, though it's probably a bit late for coffee...🙂 🤣

It’s not like that; I just enjoy it. Honestly, I have a soft spot for those endless, circular stories that just go around and around in circles forever. 😵

Hey Jack Carter88, I'll pass you a greeting too, but honestly, it’s way too late for coffee now...🙂 🤣

🙂

Just got back from my workout, and honestly, I’m beat. I'm heading straight for the shower, then rewarding myself with a cold beer.
Fake it till you make it, I guess. Just grin and bear it. 🤣

Jessica Grant56, you’re wearing me out, man...

Maybe try focusing on the pretty ladies instead. Life gets a whole lot easier that way. 😉

Don't get worked up; it'll just give you wrinkles. 🙂

Jessica Grant56 said:So, she’s officially stressed out—though honestly, we can't tell if it's just the workload or if work is actually driving her crazy. Well, go enjoy your time off! We’ll manage just fine without you, even if "our dear citizen" decides to stay home for a while.

Just a little bit 😉

I’m trying to rush through everything, but I can't seem to untangle the knots before I trip over my own feet and fall flat on my face. 🙄

Richard Howard55 said:Wonderful. You’re "hanging out" at 2:00 AM and somehow "figuring it all out": shipping? transport? no transport? ... you jump to one website, then it flings you to another, then a third, and after bouncing around for a bit, you can't even remember where you started... just like that, for days on end.
Then you fall into some deep meditation regarding lines 11 and 12 on an IRS tax form... and you weep (tears of joy, obviously)... thanking God you were born during such a vital era, just to experience meeting Linić, digital tax reporting, reverse charge mechanisms, ....... and then come autumn, the JOPPD... a total dream that makes sleep impossible.☕☕

🙂

We’ve survived much worse than this, so we’ll get through this too. 🙂

I’ve decided I’m just not cut out to handle all these moving parts myself, so I’m going to start calling in consultants for every little thing. Everything has just become a giant mess. 😵

Jessica Grant56 said:Exactly! And now it turns out I’m some kind of hero if I don't celebrate every single day, but maybe every third day instead? Even though it takes me four hours to do what you can knock out in one.

And here's what really eats at me: how am I supposed to let an employee take time off? Am I meant to find someone who could just sit in the store for a month straight—because they won't even learn the job in two months, so they wouldn't actually be helping anyway—and then where am I supposed to pull those extra few thousand dollars from? You know, unplanned expenses? Do you get all these new ridiculous regulations that basically strip away my right to work—even if I wanted to keep working until I'm 90? And doing it for free! On my own dime. Why did we waste ten years of our lives giving up almost everything...

I’m all for the celebration. 🙂

Just got back from the seminar. 😵

I feel like I’ve finally wrapped my head around everything, mostly because this was my second deep dive into sales tax regulations since the July changes. ☕

Lucky me—I won't actually have to deal with the fallout until I'm back from vacation.

From here on out, it’s strictly chamomile and herbal tea for me. I need to stay calm. ☕
Virtual Coffee Break - Chat in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
This is driving me absolutely insane 🙂

Only six hours until midnight, at which point I think I’ll trade this coffee for a glass of wine. 😉

I’ve got my vacation coming up in two weeks. Until then, I’m not even planning on taking a breath—just grinding through everything so I can enjoy myself without a shred of guilt once I finally clock out. 👋
I didn't plan on weighing in on this thread. But there are a few things I just can't let slide.

Terry Johnson3 said:Look, just because a handful of you are getting paid by the higher-ups to praise this joke of a program on the forums doesn't mean you're actually right.

I’ve tried explaining this more than once: we are users of this program. These constant insinuations are incredibly annoying, and they're an insult to the people posting here genuinely trying to help others rather than chasing a paycheck. 😉

hollowtrucker77 said:Lilly
is doing a terrible job moderating.

And you think you know 🙄

Terry Johnson3 said:You could say the same about anyone promoting Synapse—making up questions just to get it talked about. Most of those questions don't even make sense, nobody gives useful answers, and they aren't helpful to anyone...

There goes that insinuation again. Besides, whether something is "useful" or not isn't really our call to judge.

Just like some people can't stand hearing about Synapse constantly, you all seem annoyed whenever Techtronic or something else happens to come up.

That is a complete fabrication. I can find plenty of other posts where I specifically asked for someone with experience in other programs to chime in. Unfortunately, nobody ever responds.

Sarah Morales90 said:We're stuck in a loop talking about Techtronic and Synapse. 🤣

If you're interested in those two specific programs, please just scroll back through the last few pages so everyone else doesn't have to keep repeating themselves. 🤣

It’s a shame we aren't hearing from users of other software packages. I took a look at a few interesting ones a while back—Pharos, Quico, Pantheon... It’s a pity no one bothers to say a word about them here.

Sarah Morales90 said:To be honest, I’m disappointed too that we’ve only really touched on two programs. Personally, I only know the one I use daily. I’d love to hear some insights regarding other software, but you can't exactly force people to post.
If you're up for it, I'd actually love to hear more about that Riviera software.

We could spend all day bickering like children,

Michelle Gonzalez50 is a class act. I’d invite anyone to scroll through her posts to see for themselves; frankly, talking to her like this is unnecessary and just plain rude.

So, okay, maybe the issue isn't with Lilly.

OK, you lost me here 😕

Thanks to everyone who stood by me. It honestly means a lot to read something like that.

ruggedmaker2 said:Can you walk me through this whole dollar thing?
I remember calling the IRS back in the day to ask if everything had to be in USD, and they basically told me it wasn't strictly required by law. Now I'm just sitting here totally confused. 😕

It's actually covered under Section 81 of the Law.

I usually just add a note specifying which currency I used for the calculation.
Employer requirement: Must be a sole proprietor in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Nancy Alvarez82 said:If you want my honest opinion, here is the golden rule... stay away from sole proprietorships!
When you run a business as a sole proprietor, you are essentially putting your entire life's savings and every asset you own on the line; if you aren't an absolute expert in legal jargon and contract law, you’re just asking for someone to exploit you with a fine-print clause, leaving you completely ruined. To be perfectly blunt, the whole setup feels incredibly rigged against the little guy.
If you have already set your heart on starting something, go with an LLC instead, because then you won't have much to lose since your personal assets remain protected from the business's liabilities.
There is no requirement to be an employee of your own LLC, which allows you to keep your monthly overhead and tax burdens significantly lower.

You basically have to find a job 😉

Bradley Smith88 said:The workspace would be inside the apartment I'm renting. I'd need a signed statement from the landlord giving me the green light... but yeah, the biggest risk is probably if they end up being my only client. If they miss a payment or anything, I'm basically screwed.
Then again, I'm currently unemployed, so I don't really have much of a choice...

The quality of this photo is pretty rough, but you can still make out the difference in texture and color. Honestly, I wouldn't settle for the second option even if my life depended on it. Though, I suppose I might reconsider if they threw a 50% discount my way—that other flooring isn't actually that terrible 😬

I think you’re overestimating the overhead here quite a bit. 😉
The basic safety gear and first aid supplies he actually needs won't run him more than $133.
If I were looking at bare-minimum technical requirements—things like electrical inspections, climate control 🙂, and standard OSHA compliance for two employees plus a director—it would cost me less than $1667.
Then you've got the various taxes and fees for a small business owner, which sit around $583, plus those chamber of commerce dues (which run me about $40/month).
It’s usually cheaper to just work for a corporation where you can pick up a minimum wage job, though the upfront costs of starting your own thing are definitely higher.
In my book, you need a monthly take-home of at least 7k-$2667 to make this kind of venture worth the headache. That's just based on the logic of "better to be working than sitting on the couch."

Good luck.

New updates to the Value Added Tax Act and changes to the VAT Act 👋
Starting a small business in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
A separate business location basically means anything operating outside of your primary registered headquarters. 😉
Your main business activities are supposed to be carried out right where you're officially registered.

Taking out a loan doesn't count toward the threshold for registering for sales tax (which currently sits at $76667), so using debt to get a startup off the ground is actually pretty standard practice.
Starting an LLC: Where to begin? in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Carol Price4 said:Wait—you mentioned an LLC earlier, but now you're talking about a sole proprietorship? What's the actual plan here? I was specifically answering questions regarding LLCs (and those single-member ones too).

The same logic applies to freelancers who have a regular W-2 job on the side. The only difference is they’ll be handling their own self-employment tax and filing everything based on their annual returns.

Nicole Lee6 said:but this lecturer at a seminar mentioned we need an official decision regarding our VAT ID (which prompted that guy from the IRS to chime in and say they already received it directly from the tax office?!) 😕🤷

It’ll get there eventually. If it doesn't, just file the request yourself.

We don't even have the new law finalized yet, and you're already chasing down ID numbers. It just doesn't work like that. 🤣

Besides, the data isn't even showing up in the VIES system yet, so what's the point? Patience is a virtue, I guess. 😬

Wait, am I tripping, or is the sales tax form actually due by the 20th instead of the end of the month? Or did I just misread the deadline? 🤔

I’d really love to be wrong about this one. 😁
Itemized sales receipt with tax breakdown in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Where exactly are you planning to issue separate invoices? 😢

Sales tax per line item is basically just "massaged" until the final total checks out. A little bit of fluctuation isn't a big deal, and the variance falls well within an acceptable margin of error 😉
