But personally, I’m in need of something a bit more... lethal, if I can borrow Henry Edwards33's phrasing from a few days ago 😍

Let’s look at the logic here... If a retiree starts a company and doesn't hire anyone, who's doing the actual work? Him? He’s retired because he’s done with the grind. Makes sense, right? 🙂

Technically speaking, a retiree can start a business, and if they aren't pulling a significant income from it, they should be able to keep their Social Security checks coming.

It’s a gray area, so there isn't a simple "yes" or "no" answer.

Retirement isn't one-size-fits-all. You could be retired due to age, disability, or some other reason. Everyone falls under different legal categories with specific rules you have to follow.

Honestly, it would be smart to just run this by a legal expert or someone at the Social Security Administration.

Just drop by whenever. I don't care what you do for a living or what your degree says, and let's just agree not to pry into each other's business 🤣

We could just rename this thread "Virtual Honeymoon" or maybe something about wine—that might actually fit better. 😁

You know that one commercial? The one where they go, "Oooooh, I know exactly how you feel..."

It’s like being squeezed from every direction, just waiting for the breaking point. Makes me wonder how much longer we can keep going like this.

I think it’s high time we had a little discussion regarding the user portals on www.ssa.gov.
Do you all actually use them, and more importantly, are they any good?

I recently helped an employee file a request for an estimated benefit calculation and started pre-filling the necessary paperwork before his retirement.
Long story short, despite submitting everything digitally, he still had to trek down to the local Social Security Administration office three separate times just to hand over photocopies of his employment records. It turns out his official service history didn't match what was recorded in his physical files.

To make matters worse, the app doesn't even let you see your total accumulated years of service; it only shows you when your coverage periods started and ended.

Best regards to everyone here on the forum!

Glad you stopped by ☕

I don't really have any experience with it, nor do I use it, and honestly, you already hit the nail on the head regarding why. Even when I have to make a trip down to the Social Security Administration office—which happens more often than I'd like—I don't waste my time digging through stuff online.
It’s just easier for me to chat with the kind ladies at the local office; they've always been able to sort things out for me quickly and without any hassle.

So, I’m probably not much help here, but at least we had our virtual coffee together. 😉

I tried looking for something "automated" to handle the heavy lifting—anything other than a bunch of clerks at a government office—but there just isn't 😢

And what’s wrong with the folks at the Social Security office? They’re free labor. 😬

Gotovan one 🙄

If you actually find a tool that works, let me know. 😍

The folks over at the Social Security Administration basically just wing it when they handle my stuff. 😬

They look at it by the calendar—like from July 1st to August 1st—so it’s just a standard month. 🤷
I haven't run into any issues with how they track things, though maybe I just haven't been paying enough attention to notice the flaws. 🤔

Then again, once someone actually retires, the SSA starts looking at their total years of service.

Car Insurance: What are your experiences? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Ryan Carter52 said:I guess I'm not entirely sure, since I was driving a different car because my old one was totaled, so maybe the chassis could play a part in things.
But during the inspection, they kept asking for my old policy number or at least the old license plate, and since I didn't give them any info, they couldn't find any kind of no-claims discount or bonus.

That happened back in the US, whereas at Triglav they didn't really ask or check anything at all; they just set up a new policy without any discounts and called it a day.
And now, looking at that policy online ten months later, it shows I get a 10% discount for renewing, while with the US provider, it seems like it just goes up by 5% every year over a nine-year period.

If everything you said is true, I’d treat your situation as an outlier rather than the standard rule.

The VIN isn't even the main thing; they can track you down via your Social Security number, and every insurer is required to verify your claims history. You could maybe wiggle through the cracks a few years ago, but nowadays, they’re pretty strict about it.

And now, ten months after getting it online, that policy shows I have a 10% renewal discount, while with Progressive, it says the discount climbs by 5% every year over a nine-year period.

That’s actually pretty weird because everyone follows the same math for bonuses. Year one is zero, year two is 10%, and then it bumps up by 5% every year after that.

There are a lot of strange details in your story, 😁Henry Edwards33.

Kate Martin9 said:Forgive me for stepping out of the main thread, but I’m honestly at a loss as to where else to ask. Does anyone know how to set up my PayPal so I can actually receive funds via email?
For instance, I want a friend to be able to transfer $33 from her account to mine.

I tried giving her my email address so she could send it over, but she's telling me it won't work because I haven't enabled that specific option. How on earth do I go about activating that?

Please help—this is becoming quite urgent.

I'd probably ask in the Venmo thread instead 🤷

Bank account frozen: What should I do? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Unfortunately, these kinds of screw-ups still happen, even if they aren't as common as they used to be.
Draft up a formal complaint for Goldman Sachs, then take it to City Hall to get some clarity on what went wrong.

Anything you were overcharged will be refunded, but just a heads-up: expect some bureaucratic headaches when trying to recoup the legal fees from the foreclosure process. 🤣

Good luck with all this. Let me know how it plays out; I’m actually curious to see what they say.
