Jeremy Nelson3 said:Well—I’m already four days late now—so, if my math is even remotely correct, I suppose a positive result on the test should be showing up by now. Or maybe it won't? I guess it's just one of those things where you wait and wonder, though logically, the timing seems right.
I am absolutely livid with my doctor at Mayo Clinic—just completely fuming. I had my swabs done last year and everything seemed fine, except for that strep infection I had, which I eventually cleared up. But here’s the thing—she didn't even bother to order a follow-up swab after the treatment was finished. Now, suddenly, she’s refusing to perform any more tests until my husband shows up for the appointment. It feels incredibly dismissive, I guess. Maybe there's some bureaucratic reason for it, but honestly, it just feels like an unnecessary hurdle when I'm trying to stay on top of my health.
I suppose—if I’m being honest with myself—it looks like I’ll be looking for a new gynecologist first. Maybe it's for the best, though I can't say for certain yet.😁

Get that changed immediately. 😠

Well, Richard Wilson17 says there's still a chance...
Jeremy Nelson3 said:Richard Wilson17😘 ..well, I actually stopped by the clinic recently, and I asked her about getting all my screenings done since I'm planning to get pregnant—but she wouldn't do them because she claims there’s just no need right now😈. I suppose I'll wait a few more days, but if I were already pregnant, I think the test would have turned positive by now; so, it's likely just a late cycle this month👎.

Jeremy Nelson3, first off, don't sweat it—that positive will show up eventually. Besides, has your period actually started yet? I did my first test a day or two early because I couldn't wait, and obviously, it was negative—then four days later, bingo. 😍

Anyway, what do you mean she won't do the swabs?! She really should, especially if you told her you're planning to conceive! 😠 😲

Morgan Foster2 said:how are you applying it... at night? how long do you leave the oil on your scalp?
walk me through it... please 😘

Just a tiny bit of oil on my fingertip—I apply it directly to the spots where the scaling is at its worst. I do this every day or every couple of days, but it’s really minimal—just enough on the tip of my finger for "spot treatment." (Usually, I wait until the afternoon or evening when I'm finally home.) Then I just leave it in until I wash my hair, which happens about twice a week. My only real struggle right now is finding a shampoo that doesn't trigger more scaling—though, honestly, it seems to happen regardless of what soap I use...
there, hope that helps you out.
One time, I actually slathered my entire scalp in it—the effect was actually pretty great (the scales came off without making my skin look like a crime scene, and no itching)—but unfortunately, I don't have the time for that kind of ritual right now.😢

To be clear: I started doing this on my own risk. I have no idea how it'll work for anyone else...

Morgan Foster2 said:Hey.

I’ve been dealing with psoriasis for nearly three years now. It’s hit a plateau—if you can call it that—meaning it isn't spreading anymore. My main issues are just my scalp and a bit on my fingers. For a while, my nails were a total mess, but I started taking beta-carotene and they’ve mostly bounced back. I haven't tried anything specific for the scalp yet, so I'm thinking about starting something soon. As I mentioned before, things tended to clear up whenever I dropped weight fast—I once lost about 15 or 16 pounds in a single month. Don't ask me how, because honestly, it’s not for everyone. It involved two brutal workouts a day, eating very little spread across three or four meals, and sticking to that grind four or five days a week. I'm an athlete, though—I'm used to pushing myself hard.
Lately, my left knee has been acting up—classic psoriatic arthritis flare-up territory. It usually hits whenever I let myself pack on a few extra pounds or get a little too lazy with the workouts. To be fair, that’s just my own self-diagnosis, though—I haven't actually sat through a doctor's appointment to confirm it.
My scalp is basically peeling every single day—it’s become a routine at this point. I spend half the night scratching away in my sleep, which feels pretty intense compared to some of the stuff people are describing here.

I’ve picked up quite a bit from you all here—hopefully, that means your advice actually holds water when I need it.
And I’ll do the same for you—if I actually stumble onto anything worth knowing.

Hey everyone,
Damir

P.S. I'm 29.

Right now, for my scalp specifically, St. John’s Wort oil is doing the heavy lifting. I’m not usually one for those old-school home remedies—honestly, I usually roll my eyes at them—but this actually seems like a solid fix for now. I’ve just been lightly applying it every couple of days for a few weeks. Now I just need to track down a shampoo that won't wreck everything by irritating my scalp again—I really don't want to trigger that massive oil production and flaking cycle all over again.
I tried it—along with all those corticosteroids and their quick fixes—using a pharmacy-grade solution of olive oil (90%) and salicylic acid (10%). It works wonders for a minute, honestly, but it absolutely wrecked my hair follicles, so I had to quit. This option above sounds like a better bet for now. 🙂

But wait—are they actually broken, or just turned off?

placidpanther12 said:It’s not some joke—a doctor actually told a 50-year-old guy he got psoriasis that he should be happy because it's a sign his body is actually healthy

P.S. Thanks for the kind words.

In that case, let's pass all those warm wishes onto that doctor—since clearly, he doesn't have a clue what an autoimmune disease even is.

Look, when you deal with psoriasis, it’s actually a sign your body is functioning normally—and when it suddenly clears up? That’s usually when you should start worrying about some underlying issue. Has anyone else noticed their skin clearing up right after losing weight fast? That's the connection. To fuel psoriasis, your system needs to be healthy. As soon as you get sick, it recedes. My dermatology professor once told me that nobody in those concentration camps had psoriasis, and it was for that exact reason.

Can someone please explain what on earth you're talking about?!
And if this is just some sick joke, I hope you get hit with the worst illness imaginable. (My apologies to everyone else except this guy—sorry for the outburst, but that was uncalled for)
Blood work results - iron levels in Health ·
Sandra Wood45 said:thanks for the reply!

Is it actually smart to just walk into a pharmacy and try to find something myself, or am I stuck waiting until my doctor's appointment to start any treatment?

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend playing doctor and starting a regimen on your own.
Your physician needs to look at all your other symptoms to figure out exactly which medication is right for you.
For me, after trying a ton of different stuff, nothing worked quite like my prescription iron chewables from CVS—everything else absolutely wrecked my digestion.
Bottom line: see a doctor. 🙂
Blood work results - iron levels in Health ·
Sandra Wood45 said:I went in today for some routine iron and blood sugar work. My doctor’s note had UIBC and TIBC listed on there too.

So, my iron levels are technically within range, but they're scraping the very bottom of the scale. My blood sugar is right in the middle, and my UIBC is fine too—but my TIBC is actually below the lower limit.

Can someone please make sense of this? I haven't seen my doctor yet—not that I even know if I'll make it in tomorrow—and honestly, I have no clue what TIBC even stands for.

TIBC; Total Iron Binding Capacity
Definition
This is a blood test that measures the total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) as an indirect measure of transferrin
UIBC; Unsaturated Iron Binding Capacity

Basically, you're anemic and you need treatment.
Since it isn't just the iron itself that's low, things look okay-ish.
Treatment usually takes care of it. 🙂

Brandon Wells712 said:Lots of women say Dr. Grujicka comes off as arrogant and all that, but I actually have a good opinion of her. She’s pricey and pretty serious, but she actually helped me feel calm during my last visit—I’ve been dealing with weight and hormone issues while trying to conceive. She seems like a real expert, plus she saved my friend's pregnancy, so that's why she was recommended to me.
I really need to book an appointment and get some tests done.
I've heard nothing but good things about Dr. Latin too, but the wait times are just insane.

hmm, how expensive are we talking (roughly)?
Is this specialist more for prenatal care or specifically for (in)fertility?
If you happen to know, what's the lead time for an appointment? Like, a month out from the call or sooner?
thanks

It’s not just about whether it exists in Chicago—according to what Mrs. Norris said, it doesn't exist anywhere. I wouldn't know about other cities...
I was in college during those years... and ever since I graduated... yeah, the nurses can be a bit much. When I was 18, they were actually terrifying, but nowadays? I know how to handle them—or just tell them to back off. As for Dr. Topalović—his bedside manner is pretty abysmal (unless you're pregnant), but for me, he’s a top-tier diagnostician. He never skimp on tests or referrals if it's necessary... so there.

It's not that I actually like the man—he is my gynecologist, after all😬 but even so, I can't bring myself to agree with the lady... 😉

Woodrow Wilson—brilliant lady, decades of experience... she's an incredible diagnostician.
It’s a bit of a hassle to catch her—she works out of the clinic there—but you just have to wait... walk into the derm wing in Chicago, room #3... tell them you have an appointment with her and just hang tight until she comes back from rounds (usually around noon or 1 PM). 🙂 Good luck.

Sophia Brown7 said:I’m looking for a gynecologist recommendation—doesn't matter if it's a man or a woman. Up until now, I’ve been seeing Dr. Dokic over in Dugave and he is just... awful. I end up having to explain everything myself and tell him what needs to be done, so I’d honestly rather just go private to see Dr. Husar over in Tratinska since he’s actually great and explains things clearly. But right now, I need someone covered by insurance, so any leads on a good doctor would be appreciated. Doesn't matter the gender. This current guy is just rrrrrrrrrad. I tried following my pregnancy at St. Jude’s because I thought, "who knows..." but yeah, total nightmare.

Hmm, try Dr. Topalovic over on Studentska near the mosque. His bedside manner is a little weird—read: cold—but he's highly skilled. I've heard he's especially solid for prenatal care and stuff like that.

Allergies or intolerances are caused by what's missing in the body. Diet itself isn't the trigger—it can't be. It's more likely down to evolutionary shifts or, well, let's call it genetic inheritance combined with the environment we live in, right? 🙄

Same here—my doc said three weeks max.
I’ve noticed a ton of posts about this lately. You guys think there’s something weird in the air or something over the last year or so?
I've been dealing with a mild version of this for about 15 years now, but lately—over the last twelve months—even corticosteroids aren't doing a damn thing.😢 😢
