cosmicnomad6 said:I see someone posted their measurements hoping to finally figure out their size 😁 so now I’m curious too! What would my UK size be on ASOS? My measurements are 105-82-112

Go with a size 14 or 16 on ASOS—though honestly, 16 is probably safer. I have pretty similar measurements myself—when you're looking at skirts where the hips are the main thing and the waist is just a formality, you can usually get away with a 14 if the cut is right—but yeah, maybe aim for that 16. these skirts—), so you're probably looking at 14—roughly speaking, anyway. Just be a little careful with the things that don't stretch—not sure how that works for the 14-inch model. 🤷).

Charles Gomez4 said:Hey Cure, can anyone help me compare sizing between H&M and Dorothy Perkins? I'm looking at classic black straight-leg trousers. An H&M size 46 fits okay—just a tiny bit snug—but I actually can't get them buttoned. Now I'm stressing about which size to grab from DP. They have a ton of pants on sale right now, plus an extra 25% off.

I own a pair of theirs, but the cut is pretty slim and they're low-rise. When I buy low-rise stuff at H&M, I usually go for a 14 too (112 cm hips). But since these DP pants are the only slim-leg ones in my closet, it's hard to make a direct comparison—kind of like comparing apples to oranges. 🤷

The legs are shorter than the H&M ones (and those were the last pair I bought from them).

The rest of my DP clothes feel a little roomier than H&M size 14, though the sleeves tend to run short there, too.

when I finally got the package and opened it, my expression was basically 😕 🤣

I checked just now, and the pants are a 46 🙄
Looking at my current wardrobe, I calculate I actually need a 50 now ☕

But honestly, what bothered me most was the shipping delay—I think it took about three weeks, maybe even a full month 🙂

I wanted to ask you... how does ASOS sizing work? Does it actually align with the size chart, or do things run a bit larger?

Roomier. If you look at my measurements versus their size 16 chart—I’m actually larger than what they list. And honestly, for a lot of things, I could probably even drop down a size because they’re just... comfortable. They don't squeeze, and they even kind of flap around a bit. 😉

The tees are actually almost *too* comfy for my taste—they lean a bit too much toward the "baggy" side on me. 😬 Maybe I'll take a risk and order a size 14 next time. 😲 And this skirt—next time I'll try a 14 too, and we'll see how much it 😬 bites at the waist (the 16 is a little loose; I have it in burgundy 😍).

Sorry if I'm laughing, but 🤣. That was actually my very first order from them back in... hm, more than 10 (?) years ago. Only thing was, everything felt way too big for me at the time.

Eventually, I got the hang of their site and figured out how to order—I used to buy from them quite a bit for a while there. My sister and I would just sit down with some coffee and flip through every single page of those massive catalogs. 😍 Man, we were such kids back then. *pure nostalgia*

Anyway, I still have some of their stuff from ages ago and it’s all in great shape—honestly, I'm still super impressed with the quality. But I haven't ordered in forever, maybe since 2005 or 2006... I can't even remember. And now I've totally forgotten how their sizing works 🤷, especially since all the labels have faded away long ago.

I think these coats are their size 48, which would be our 46. I remember they fit perfectly when I first got them, but now they're getting a little tight around the chest—still wearable, though. Still, I can't be 100% sure; it's been way too long. 😢

Btw, back in 2003, I got a bra from them (well, my boyfriend at the time bought it because I wouldn't stop drooling over the website, and the bra was insanely expensive) and it's still going strong! 😲 It's probably the one I wear most out of anything I own. Most other bras end up in the trash, but this one? It just survives. 😬 🤣

Has anyone ever ordered from La Redoute before?

I still have some old pieces of theirs—including one jacket and this gorgeous long coat that looks brand new 😍—and they were worth every penny. But the size tags have completely worn off from age 😬, so now I’m totally lost on how their sizing works. I know it runs larger than US or European sizing, but I can't quite remember by how much.

I found a (nearly) neutral jacket 😍 at a decent price (wish it was a little more pressed, but it should be fine). Honestly, I don't trust those online size charts—every time I follow them, everything ends up being way too baggy—so mathematically speaking... maybe H&M plus one size or two? I can't remember anymore. 🤷

Linda Johnson15 said:Look, you've got it wrong. 😁I actually love browsing stores; it's just not like this here in the States. I'm in Oslo quite often, and I absolutely love hitting the shops there. It's such a blast because the stores actually realize that the streets aren't just filled with supermodels and carry stuff for girls who are a size 16 or larger 🙂—they actually acknowledge we exist! 🙂

But back home? I can't be bothered because I know there's nothing for me except those "grandma-style" basics at places like Old Navy.... I know my body, and I have no intention of wearing one pair of pants and two shirts just because I'm waiting to drop a few pounds. Once I hit my goal, then I'll go buy a whole new wardrobe.😁

The real issue is that searching for decent clothes here feels like a chore—almost a trauma—which is why women don't bother. So, they don't develop the habit, and they never become interesting consumers.

That’s why I just swipe my card online like there's no tomorrow. 😬 You can see it in how active people are on this forum, too—everyone is constantly signing up for things, even if half of it won't fit by next year (my metabolism is pretty much set in stone thanks to my meds).

Regarding the whole "waiting until you lose weight" thing—unfortunately, it's true. I see it in the women around me all the time. I didn't say it to be snarky, though; I was actually reading some market research because I was curious about the plus-size industry (can't find the link off the top of my head, but I'll post it if I stumble upon it). Personally, I don't have that issue—I have suitcases in my basement organized by size. 😬 People with larger sizes act modest not because they don't want to spend, but because there's nothing to buy. 🤷

Honestly, my wardrobe would be pretty slim right now if we weren't part of the global trade agreements—otherwise, I'd be weighing whether an item is worth the extra taxes and duties. 🤷 You have to look at the context of where we live. If I were in London, I’d be tearing through every shop in sight, whereas here, you practically have to drag me into a store.

So, yeah, my frustration is pretty obvious. 🤣 It’s not because I wouldn't shop (I mean, I shop the second I cross the border) or because I'm waiting to get thin (once you hit your 30s, nobody is waiting for anything 😍). It's because when I walk into a typical local shop, I feel like a giant balloon just getting in the way of the "normals." I end up hogging the fitting room, struggling to squeeze into yet another tiny item—usually the biggest one they have—even if it isn't even cute. That's what's frustrating, and that's why I stay away. If I'm not an interesting customer to them now—and I'm in the age group that spends the most—then when will I be?

Even the models are starting to change—showing some actual variety. Though, let’s be real, these "plus-size" models look more like they're a size 12 or 14 than actually plus-sized.

But hey, at least they're finally showing clothes on women with curves, so I can get a decent idea of how things might actually look on me.

This one model has a similar build to mine, and that little dress looks way too good on her. Honestly, if it weren't on a woman with an actual shape—and not someone looking like a stick—I wouldn't even be able to imagine pulling it off myself. 😬

I’m still pretty insecure when it comes to fit and cuts—old habits, right?—but seeing these shifts in the fashion industry makes me want to... play around a little more. 🙂 (Basically, they're turning me into a prime target for shopping. 😬)

Linda Johnson15 said:Lindex in Scandinavia is basically heaven and earth. I used to shop there all the time—their lingerie is pure fantasy and they actually carry all sizes. You should also check out Kappahl; another Scandinavian brand that’s absolute gold for plus-size girls... even if their web shop is pretty basic, their physical stores are a dream. Honestly, Lindex was such a massive letdown when it finally showed up here in the States... just like most brands that are huge overseas but feel totally different once they land on our shores. It feels like this country is just built for muscle heads and models who wear a size 6 at most, leaving the rest of us completely out of the loop.

Honestly, they do it because they assume women with curves spend less on clothes—which, let’s be real, is probably true. There are a few layers to it: we’re always hoping we’ll lose weight, so we don't want to clutter our closets with stuff that'll soon be 😬 too big. But I think the bigger issue is that we haven't really developed that habit of spontaneous, "oh, let's grab this" shopping while passing by a shop... because hunting for clothes that actually fit... is pure torture. Just deciding to go looking for something in stores requires some serious mental prep 😢 We weren't raised for that kind of impulsive shopping since we never even had the option.
Plus, clothes for us tend to be more expensive, and the selection is always pretty limited.

I see it in my own life—lately, I've been buying so much stuff online just because it looked cute and the prices were great. I didn't used to shop like that simply because, around here, you don't really have the chance to find something feminine, trendy, and maybe totally unnecessary, but cheap enough to... just grab on a whim.

Finding anything for myself has always been a struggle (even back when I was at a "neutral" weight... which, for my height and build, is a size 6). It's like the fashion industry thinks women in larger sizes don't actually have waists! All those oversized tunics, tees, and button-downs end up being way too baggy in the waist and back for me. They just make me look wider instead of flattering my shape. But since that was the only thing I could find, I took it. I honestly looked best in a swimsuit. Everything else I could squeeze into just made me look heavier.

Deep down, though, I'm a total Southern belle 🤣 (saying that in the sweet sense, so my fellow Southerners don't get mad at me 😘) who loves to dress up. And I don't think I'm so huge that there isn't a single choice of feminine, non-frumpy clothing out there.

But things are slowly changing. And until our local retailers catch on, girls, just head straight to ASOS. Why keep sending American dollars abroad when US shops don't realize we're customers too?

Btw, sorry this thread isn't more active. I really hope it’s not because Tweety and I are hovering right on the edge of plus-size—we tend to talk about those numbers a lot, and since we're usually pretty active here, it might look like that's all we ever discuss.

Most of the shops we bring up are specifically plus-size stores, so the sizing naturally runs higher.

Honestly, I wish I’d known about these places back when I was 30+ lbs lighter. Back then, I used to just wander around in my husband's oversized sweats because I had zero motivation to walk into a store and ask, "Do you have a 20? How about a 22?"

Plus, I wanted cute clothes even back then, not just stuff that fits. 😍

It seems like international brands finally caught on—thankfully, we don't have to settle for baggy sacks or anything that looks like it was designed for a 70-year-old. 🙄

So, ladies with great curves—please chime in! If you've ordered something recently, share the link. There aren't many American sites where you can actually find honest reviews tailored to fuller figures. 😢

It really helps me out when someone posts where they shop and what the actual fit, fabric, and sizing feel like. I can lurk through other threads on this forum all day, but that’s just voyeurism—it doesn't help me much practically compared to the info shared right here. 😘

dustycyclist72 said:My apologies—I provided you all with some incorrect information earlier. 🙂

I wasn't actually at Lindex; I was over at Next. 😵

Pardon me. image

@nimbleheron47—it's more or less just a matter of proportions for me. 😂

Anyway, I think you’d fit right into a standard ASOS line—at least in an 18. 😉(By the way, I have a feeling their regular 18 and "Curve 18" aren't actually the same thing... I read somewhere that Curve 18 runs about two sizes larger than expected, but since I haven't ordered anything myself, I can't say for sure based on experience).

Based on all the shops I use, the closest thing to H&M sizing would be Elvi (which is pretty true to size) and Dorothy Perkins (runs a bit large, but nothing like ASOS)
.
ASOS and New Look definitely have the most generous cuts. Yours Clothing also runs big, though it feels more tailored for apple or pear shapes rather than hourglass figures

dustycyclist72 said:I actually spotted those jeans on Next's site and went looking for them in stores specifically. Since they're nowhere to be found, I think I'll just order them online. Looks like the mail carrier will be my stylist too.😁

Did you ever pick up anything from the ASOS Curve line?

No, I stuck to their regular line—I read somewhere that their size 18 in the Curve range runs way too big.

Basically, I’m a 44 or 46 at H&M (skirts are 44, tops are XL or 42/44, low-rise pants are 46, coats are 46/48). For ASOS, I’ve grabbed everything in a 16 and it fits perfectly. I could probably even squeeze into a 14 in some skirts, mostly because they're cut wide around the hips while my waist is pretty narrow.

I did grab a shirt in an 18 once because I was worried about my bust—I usually size down if there's no stretch, but since I have a 47-inch bust, I was nervous. It ended up being way too big. It was a slightly more relaxed fit, sure, but I still looked like I was wearing someone else's clothes. Now I just tuck it into my skirt or pants to make it look smaller, but yeah, it’s oversized.

Bottom line: their sizing runs large, so if the fabric has any stretch, definitely feel free to size down from what you normally wear. 😉

Just for reference, my measurements are 47 (bust) / 48.5 - 34 waist - 44 hips—just so you can compare it to their size 16.

If you're looking at really tight cuts, I wouldn't risk it and would go with an 18, but for regular stuff, I always order a 16.

I haven't tried their jackets yet, though. My proportions make it tricky—narrow shoulders but a larger bust means I sometimes need three different sizes depending on the cut. That's actually why I was asking about those jackets over at Target; I'd love to try them on before committing.

If I remember correctly, your sizing is pretty similar to mine. You should be fine sticking to the regular ASOS line. 😉

I had a bit of a rollercoaster with my weight due to hypothyroidism—sudden weight gain, then sudden loss once I started treatment. My "true" size is a 42, but as I mentioned, I'm currently a 44/46. I take a little gamble with the smaller sizes because if I buy too big, I won't be able to wear it in a few months. Luckily, nothing has been too small so far. If anything, it's been the opposite.🙂

Also, a huge plus for them is that the cuts work for taller girls too—nothing has ever been too short on me.👍
Fashion for curvy girls in Fashion ·
Thanks, dustycyclist72.

Honestly, I could have guessed—nothing much happening for us again. 🙄

It’s just frustrating when people act surprised that my wardrobe is an issue—but then you ask them where they actually see a size 44 or 46 (and I'm definitely not talking about a baggy potato sack), and suddenly they're speechless. 😠 It feels pretty pointless hoping for anything useful when I'm reading these retail flyers.

On the bright side, since there aren't those customs fees anymore, I guess I'll just let the mailman 🤣 handle my fashion sense from now on. Peace out. ☕

Robert Hall52 said:The latest Lindex boutique has officially opened its doors over at the Point Shopping Center in Vrbani,

http://www.lindex.com/eu/women/generous-size-44-54/

Has anyone actually been there? I'm wondering how much variety there really is compared to what you see online—and if the prices actually match up with the website or if they hit you with those "surprise" adjustments once you walk through the door.

Has anyone accidentally left their jacket here? http://www.lindex.com/eu/women/gener...yleId=47577663My old one finally kicked the bucket—it just fell apart on me—so I’m looking for something similar. But man, everything this year seems to be centered around motorcycles. 😠Honestly, that one isn't really my style—this one feels a bit more neutral. 😬
Fashion for curvy girls in Fashion ·
Man 😍 yours are stunning too. You definitely have to drop a review here if you end up ordering them. The more I browse their site, the more stuff I find that’s totally "me"—and they look like they're really well-cut, too.
Fashion for curvy girls in Fashion ·
They’ve got a decent selection up to a US size 12—which they actually count as regular sizing, not plus size. They do carry sizes above that too, but once you hit the plus size category, the variety thins out a bit, though there is still stuff to find.

Shipping is $7.50.

The style is pretty classic—and I mean *classic*, not "grandma's attic" classic. It’s just a really nice range of basic tees, button-downs, and those everyday essentials we all need in our closets.

Right now, they’re running a 20% discount on everything if you use code 20AUTUMN. If you want better deals, check out their outlet section here: landsend.com.

If anyone ends up ordering, let us know how it goes! Everything looks pretty solid to me—plus, the base prices aren't exactly bottom-of-the-barrel, so quality should be decent.

I’ve got my eye on this dress. It’s only left in sizes 8-10, but it says it runs large, so it might actually fit a 12-14. It also mentions it's long 😍, which would be perfect for me. Too bad I can't spend another cent—I basically nuked my credit card this month. 😬 😳

nimbleheron47 said:So, I finally pulled the trigger on an order because I fell head over heels for this polka dot dress on sale. It was out of stock forever, then suddenly—boom—it popped back up. 😍 I figured since I was paying for shipping anyway, I might as well grab two more things. 🤣 Found a 10% off code too, so why not?

Anyway, this polka dot one is the culprit behind my shopping spree. 😍 ($58)
image

Got this green one for everyday wear. I suspect it’ll hit mid-calf—not super long, but hey, it’s fine for a casual summer dress. Might have to do a little sewing to fix the neckline, though. ($52)
image

And a skirt, mostly because that red trim is just too cool to pass up. ($39)
image

I went with a size 16 for everything, so we'll see how that works out. The description says 16 is like a US 18, so the skirt might be a bit big—fingers crossed. I have some dresses in a 16 from Loft, but those run like a US 16... Honestly, these sizing charts are a complete mess!

Just wanted to drop a quick update on the sizing. I’d say they’re running about a US 10 to 12 in H&M—maybe even pushing toward a 14. At least, that’s how they feel on me. Honestly, my DP dresses in a size 12 are already pretty tight—and those have stretch—so these dresses and skirts are definitely running large.

The skirt sits pretty high on the waist—it’s got that elastic band, after all—which isn't really an issue for me since I have a small waist. But around the hips? It’s definitely roomy. Honestly, I’d actually prefer if it were a bit slimmer there. One thing to note: my measurements are nowhere near what the site lists for a size 16. Their cuts definitely run a bit generous. I already learned my lesson with a previous New Look order, so I decided to be brave and just go for size 16 across the board this time. Glad I did, too.

Everything looks way better in person than it does in the photos—the quality of the fabric is actually pretty solid. Just a heads-up on this green dress, though: if you’re self-conscious about your midsection or back, maybe skip this one. It’s pretty unforgiving—it shows everything (I can literally see the outline of a mole on my back through it)—so if you’re carrying any extra weight there, the material definitely won't do you any favors. 🙂 Honestly, it’s really pretty—fits great, too. It doesn't even look ridiculously short on me—like, I don't feel like I just squeezed into my younger sister's dress or anything. 😬 So, yeah—they work for tall people, but for someone shorter like me, they’d probably hit right at the ankles. The color is leaning into that teal-green shade I’m obsessed with, too—honestly looks even better in person.

This polka dot dress is absolutely gorgeous. But—total rookie mistake on my part—I assumed there’d be at least a little stretch to it. Now I can barely get it buttoned over my chest... definitely going to have to wait until I lean out a bit more in that area before I wear it properly. Just for context, I’m measuring around 47 inches at the bust, while the size 16 says it’s meant for about 40. So yeah—just so you guys realize how tiny these cuts actually are. I’ll need to go up at least one size in the waist and hips too, but honestly? It’s the style, so it doesn't look half bad—plus I can just tie it right under the bust.

Basically, I’d suggest going with the smaller size if you're stuck between two—and definitely pick the smaller one if there's any spandex involved or if your waist isn't exactly super defined. Just be a little careful if you're more busty, though even then, I wouldn't stick strictly to what the size chart says. According to the guide, I should probably be in a 20 or 22 because of my chest, but honestly? On me, that would look totally overwhelming.

Honestly, I’m thrilled with how the surgery turned out. 👍 If only they could shave a few centimeters off my chest—otherwise, I feel like a balloon about to pop at any second... 🤣 An 18 would be way too big for my waist and hips, so—yeah, currently hunting for a miracle mini-makeunder. 😁
Fashion for curvy girls in Fashion ·
OMG! 😍 😍 😍

I am totally obsessed with this shop!—plus, they actually tailor their dresses to your specific measurements. 😲 Too bad they only ship within the US, though. 😢
Fashion for curvy girls in Fashion ·
How do you even order from them? I’m guessing you have to ship to another country since they don't deliver to the States yet. 😢

So, I can't really help you out with sizing... unfortunately. But whenever I order from a shop I've never heard of—I usually do a little digging online and check some forums. I just use specific keywords in Google and filter through the threads—or if nothing comes up there, I'll switch over to blogs... usually, I stumble upon something useful that way.
Fashion for curvy girls in Fashion ·
I finally found a shop for us curvy girls! 🙂

http://www.bravissimo.com/pepperberry/.

Has anyone actually ordered from them before? They’ve got this Super Duper Curvy line—plus shirts specifically for those of us with a bit of a tummy and a full bust. Maybe I'll actually find a shirt that fits properly for once in my life. ☕

From what I can tell, sizes go up to a 18—which should be our US 16, though the description says it's a German 44. Just watch those measurements, though, because that UK18/DE44 goes up to a 48-inch bust in the Super Curvy section, and Super Duper Curvy is even wider.

I know this is basically a niche plus-size boutique, but I just had to share this with you all.

Prices are decent, but mostly if you're hunting for the sale items. For instance, a standard shirt is about $50. 😢 Shipping is fine, around $7.50.

The downside: they don't have tall sizing. Those dresses look way too short for anyone around 5'11", and honestly, if you're taller than 5'8", you'd probably want something with a bit more length.

Edit: Okay, I took another look—they design their dresses for models around 5'5", so definitely keep that in mind when looking at how the clothes sit on the models.
Fashion for curvy girls in Fashion ·
No problem at all, ladies. 😉

This thread is basically our little corner to help each other deal with the absolute frustration of actually finding clothes that fit.

So, I was just looking up some style tips for my body type—tall with an hourglass figure—and honestly? I would never touch an oversized tee like that. The only part of me that’s actually narrow is my damn waist... but this look actually seems pretty cute. Maybe I’ll order something a bit more oversized and see if the combo works. I usually skip the long sweaters too since they totally hide my waist, but women really do look better in these silhouettes. I always used to think baggy stuff just made me look worse—like I was just wearing a giant potato sack.

Video: http://www.popscreen.com/v/6B0gV/How...in-Casual-Wear.

The only time I cuff my jeans is when I'm wearing heels or those cropped pants. 😬 It’s just something I intuitively figured out looks better. Even though I rarely wear heels, I still get that awkward feeling when people stare because I'm climbing up to these heights. 🤷 I mean, let's be real—in heels, like most women, I look better and slimmer. But there's no getting around the fact that being 6'3" can feel a bit "inappropriate"—if that's even the right word—when you're towering over everyone. I only really treat myself to heels for weddings or the occasional night out with my husband (who is a solid 6'7").

______

If anyone else has any good advice or knows any sites with these kinds of tips & tricks, please share them! 🙂
