I have an off-topic question, and I am honestly not quite sure which section this belongs in.

Suppose there is someone who, over a very long period of time, uses Facebook and other social media platforms to make public threats of self-harm; in such a case, would the police or emergency services be obligated to respond to that individual and forcibly transport them to a psychiatric facility, even if they aren't actively endangering others or themselves, but are "merely" making those threats?

James Cooper23 said:He’s currently on some medications—I can't recall the specific names because, frankly, I don't care enough to go digging through them... It's just depressing. Truly. Especially considering how young he is; there’s no light at the end of the tunnel for him, whether we're talking about the near future or the distant one (never mind). His own father actually thinks—and I am quoting him directly here—“that it would be better if he died before I do.” Tragic. Just plain tragic.

Is this not simply one more compelling reason to consider the approach I have outlined? I am well aware that talking about it is much easier than actually following through, particularly when we consider how exorbitantly expensive dietary supplements can be. However, the items I mentioned can be ordered directly online. While the results may not manifest overnight, through such a therapeutic regimen, one might gradually reduce both the number and the dosage of antipsychotics, thereby enhancing overall quality of life and mitigating the side effects caused by those medications.

James Cooper23 said:I have a family member struggling with schizophrenia, and honestly, I suspect he’s dealing with one of the more severe variations. Is there even such a thing as a "mild" version? It feels like an all-or-nothing nightmare.
He’s incredibly asocial, too. When his father isn't around—the only person he actually listens to, mostly out of pure fear—he can be downright abusive. I’m talking about how he treats his mother; he’s vulgar and, well, you know, completely defiant. Sometimes he’ll just fixate on someone, staring them down for what feels like hours. On the rare occasions when he hits a better phase—which, let's face it, is extremely rare—he’s actually quite talkative and surprisingly witty. But most of the time, he seems... how should I put this? Forgive my bluntness... slowed down? He drags out his words and speaks at a snail's pace. And the lack of coherence is frequent. A few times now, he’s sat with me telling these elaborate stories about things that never actually happened, then pointing toward his bedroom door and asking if "that thing" took place right there. He's also been caught kicking cats and hitting dogs. We can't leave him alone for a single second. This all started back in his teens, and in my opinion—and please excuse my lack of medical expertise—there is simply no worse mental illness than this. I just... I felt like I had to get this off my chest. 😁

Have any of you explored integrating alternative therapies alongside standard antipsychotic medications? For instance, would administering high doses of niacin 3000—perhaps between 3000 and 4500 mg—combined with various B-complex vitamins, perhaps in increments of several hundred to 1000 mg, be worth investigating?

Such protocols are suggested by hospitals in Saskatchewan and the Linus Pauling Institute.

Henry Garcia9 said:I'm doing okay, I guess. Just stuck in a bit of a funk lately. Is this just part of the deal with this illness?? Is it even normal to be on antidepressants while dealing with schizophrenia?

I believe this is indeed a normal phenomenon. In the clinical treatment of schizophrenia, physicians occasionally prescribe medications that function simultaneously as both antipsychotics and antidepressants. While my medical knowledge isn't absolute, I believe such drugs often fall under the piperazine class.

I believe Melperone might be one such example.

In any case, if anyone feels inclined, please feel free to research this matter more deeply.

By the way, it has been quite some time since we last had a forum member struggling with those intrusive thoughts about having to consume animal organs because they believed microchips were being implanted in them...

I truly hope he has recovered, found the right medication regimen, and is doing well now.

I have a question that feels far too trivial to warrant its own thread, so I thought it might be most appropriate to post it here instead. If a moderator feels this belongs elsewhere, please feel free to move it.

If an individual experiences a premonition or believes they are on the verge of a mental health crisis—despite having no prior history of psychiatric issues—is it possible for them to receive any meaningful assistance through telephone support alone if they visit an urgent psychiatric clinic?

I ask because I know someone living with a disability who confided in me that she attempted to seek such support over the weekend. She lives in a rural area and simply could not arrange transportation to a hospital. She told me that the doctor on duty refused to engage in a detailed conversation with her over the phone, insisting instead that she come in for an evaluation immediately, even without a referral for her first visit. This was despite her explaining clearly that she was physically unable to make the trip to the facility.

The crisis manifested as intense anxiety, auditory buzzing, indistinct voices, hand tremors, and extreme dryness and pallor in her mouth and face, along with significant irritability. Eventually, the sensation of the crisis subsided, but she told me she came dangerously close to "crossing the line."

She only opened up to me because her housemates noticed her distress and urged her to talk to me. Naturally, I found myself powerless to offer anything more than my heartfelt empathy.

But if I’m being honest, my biggest struggle is just... I can't seem to stay quiet when I hear lies or just plain stupidity. So, I speak up. I give my side of things, I point out when someone is wrong, and so on. And the result? Well, we all know what that is. Aside from a little bit of internal peace, what do I actually gain? It usually just ends up causing trouble...

And you, you simply ought to be a diplomat, shouldn't you? Constantly shifting your colors like a chameleon to suit the moment.

Benjamin King17 said:Authentic. To reach a point where you aren't tethered to other people's opinions—where you actually speak your mind instead of just performing for an audience...

I have a distant cousin who lives by this exact philosophy.

She got married, but she completely skipped the whole white dress tradition. She argued that why should anyone drop $3,000$1667 on a gown or a rental when that money could be invested in something actually meaningful? And if people start whispering about her outfit, she honestly couldn't care less what they think.

She even pointed out another distant relative of ours who spent all her energy obsessing over designer hats, lace details, and gloves, only to have the marriage fall apart five years later.

There is so much depth to found in the simple act of being genuine—to live authentically and naturally without letting the judgments of society dictate your worth.

Carl Rivera43 said:I’m not really sure why you’re bringing education into this?

Why not take a moment to look through books, news outlets, or online articles to see just how profound the impact can be when changes are driven by those without any formal training—say, people who haven't even finished eighth grade? Conversely, consider the sheer scale and magnitude of the shifts possible when those changes are spearheaded by high school graduates, or even more significantly, by university-educated professionals.

When I speak of "change," I am not necessarily referring to the pursuit of immense wealth or peak professional status, though those metrics certainly exist. Rather, I am thinking about the capacity to navigate life's complexities, such as managing family crises, handling the necessity of moving away from home, or resolving deep-seated conflicts within one's family, workplace, or circle of friends.

velvetfalcon52 said:So, based on what I’ve gathered from the discussions here—since I haven't really jumped into the fray from the start—is the conclusion that we just have to accept who we were born to be?
Or is that not quite it?

I mean, how difficult is it really to actually change? Is it even possible to undergo a total transformation, or is any kind of change just a mask we put on to hide our true selves?

Change is an incredibly grueling process, and one finds that the less educated or more narrow-minded a person becomes, the more insurmountable the obstacle to any meaningful evolution appears to be—especially as one enters the later years of life.
George Sanders37 said:Yes, PowerPoint supports GIFs; you just insert them as a picture object.

I have decided to abandon the idea of using GIFs altogether. I attempted to sketch out a simple little comic strip for him, but since my eyesight is quite poor and his requirements were incredibly specific, I simply couldn't meet his standards even when working under heavy magnification. He will just have to create it himself whenever he is able.

In any case, thank you all for the support.

It’s really no big deal, but just a heads-up so you don't get banned—don't go doing anything foolish.
wiredmarlin47 said:Does anyone happen to have a disc of Microsoft Office available for sale? It doesn't necessarily need to be an official retail copy, provided it works for home use and is reasonably priced. Ideally, I am looking for Microsoft Office Professional 2013., but since that version seems to only be available via digital downloads from the official site, I am left considering the 2010 version, which appears to be the last one released on physical media.

The links I find online either fail to load, return errors, or—worse yet—if they actually work, they attempt to force-install weight loss ads and unwanted browser toolbars, not to mention the risk of catching a virus. Plus, the installation process takes forever.

Therefore, I am searching for a budget-friendly option on a CD.

Inquiries of this nature simply should not be posted on this forum.

I personally still utilize the 2003 edition, and I find myself quite satisfied with its performance.

I truly dread the moment when I will be forced to migrate to the 2007 or 2010 versions and deal with all those ribbons and other unnecessary complications.

God forbid!
Thank you. I shall see what can be done to address this matter.
George Sanders37 said:What kind of shape would those emoticons even take? They are most commonly in .gif format, and Word won't play a GIF animation for you; in fact, a .doc document generally doesn't support animations at all unless it's handled as an .html document.

I was thinking about GIFs.

Well, I suppose there is nothing to be done then. But tell me, does PowerPoint support GIFs? If I can't have animations in Word, how am I supposed to ensure they remain visible when I convert my doc to a PDF?
I am searching for some dynamic emoticons that I might be able to insert directly into Word.

I am envisioning expressive graphics—perhaps someone banging their head against a wall, sticking their tongue out, or eating everything in sight. It would be ideal if these weren't just tiny icons, but rather something substantial that I could scale up to a larger size.

Is such a task actually possible within Word 2003?

Treat people exactly how they treat you. Show your nobility and compassion... but reserve the absolute best parts of your soul for those who actually possess the wisdom to value them and prove they appreciate it.

It is perfectly fine to have rivals—since we certainly can't be friends with everyone—but let us never descend into being enemies. If someone’s interests (and I am primarily speaking about professional competition, such as when job opportunities or career advancement clash with your own) create a direct conflict with yours where cooperation is impossible, then strike back with an instrument just slightly more powerful than the one they used against you. Do this only so that you might emerge victorious in that existential struggle with as little wasted effort as possible.

One should simply move past the idea of turning the other cheek unless, of course, one harbors the lofty ambition of becoming as saintly as... Buddha, Jesus, or St. Francis of Assisi... or whoever else.

For us mere mortals, if we were to strictly adhere to the rule regarding the collision of our interests and those of others that I just described, wouldn't we all reach an incredibly enviable level of spiritual enlightenment?
shadownomad13 said:Hey everyone, I need some help!

I am currently working on an extensive project in Word 2010, where I am inserting AutoCAD drawings via the better WMF program, and I am also building several tables directly within Word.

Given these specific requirements, which file format would be the most reliable for saving my work?
I am deeply concerned about maintaining the integrity of my layout; I certainly wouldn't want to spend hours typing everything only to find that the formatting has completely collapsed once it's printed.

Should I opt for: - All Files
- Word Document
- Rich Text Format
- Or perhaps something else entirely?

Whatever you do, do not use RTF.
Can a faulty RAM stick damage my PC? in IT Support ·
wanderingpuma2 said:I am wondering if I could damage my entire computer, or just certain parts, if I install RAM that I'm not entirely sure is functioning correctly? Additionally, could I cause damage by trying to put, say, DDR2 RAM into a motherboard that only supports standard DDR? Thanks for any help

I once tried using two incompatible RAM sticks—one was 256MB DDR and the other was 512MB DDR—on a budget motherboard that only had two slots.

One of those slots ended up having a faulty connection between the RAM and the rest of the board.

It caused a massive headache; my hard drive started acting up, and the whole system became incredibly unstable and prone to crashing. It even got to the point where Windows XP flagged my data as corrupted, though luckily, most of it stayed intact.

So, my advice is simple: DO NOT attempt to install faulty RAM into your machine.

For instance, I recently purchased a brand new printer for $667. I took the technician's word for it, but it turns out the thing is barely functional. Check out more on that topic here

If a device can't even work properly when it's brand new, how on earth can we expect it to function once it's old and has been tossed around everywhere?
Jack Hayes said:Are you perhaps struggling to locate the specific tool required to identify duplicate rows or columns within your spreadsheet? If so, might I suggest that you take a moment to look through the menu options? How does one ensure that specific Rows are repeated consistently across every page of a document? Is there a reliable way to maintain this structure within Excel? i Is there anything more frustrating than watching your data drift away from its context as you scroll through an endless spreadsheet? How can one possibly maintain clarity when those vital headers vanish into the void? I am simply asking: wouldn't life be much easier if we could just lock our columns in place? That is likely located within the Page Setup menu. Or perhaps elsewhere? Could you perhaps take the liberty of performing a quick search on Google?. ☕

Thank you.
