What do you guys think of this guy? in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
Jamie Fowler2 said:- just look it up and you'll find out.

- since when does "internal" mean the same thing as chi? I guess maybe try searching for "pneuma" online.

- I don't know Chekhov's Wing Chun. Maybe ask him.

Ok. So why are internal martial arts even called that? Like, what part of them is actually internal versus external?

Jamie Fowler2 The user said:I'll give you more than just a one-word answer:

Trying to train internal martial arts here in the States is a real uphill battle. There are a few people around who actually get what internal skills are all about, but honestly, maybe only two or three of them have the patience to actually teach it. My advice? Just stick to whatever you're naturally drawn to and find a teacher that clicks with you. Some people might stumble into those internal principles later on—whether through meditation or just their fighting style. Others probably won't even need to go looking for it, since those core principles are tucked away inside pretty much any external art, even BJJ. You just gotta look a little closer and keep at it.

I'm thinking about internal martial arts:
They don't really have anything to do with anyone, I guess.
They don't really have anything to do with meditation, I guess.
They don't really have anything to do with relaxation, I guess.
They don't really have anything to do with spirituality, I guess.

If you stumble upon something labeled "internal martial arts" that’s basically just a checklist of everything I mentioned... then yeah, you haven't actually found an internal art. I guess all those things can pop up as a byproduct of training pretty much any discipline, whether it's combat-focused or not. Maybe.

At the end of the day, the only way to actually measure if a martial art is any good is whether it works when things get real. Everything else is just noise.

Who are these people claiming to know anything about internal martial arts? And which ones actually do?
Are they actually teaching anything?

So, why even call these things "internal" skills if they don't actually have anything to do with chi? I mean, you're just throwing up energy, right?
It’s like, you know, that's how you handle him internally. I guess. 😛 And why are they even called that?
Internal stuff, maybe? If they're based on coordination and who knows what else... I guess it's just like Chekhov's toilet.
Is that also internal skill?

Oh look, Pizdek is back. So, what's your take on chi and internal martial arts?

Jamie Fowler2's shifu is basically trying to act like Leung Ting when it comes to charging people.😁

Wre, you ever read those old Marti mystery comics? I guess there's an episode called "kung fu killer" that talks about some ancient Pa Kua Chang style. That's basically what he's into...

Malecki clearly only gives a damn about himself. And Kuzman too, especially after that whole mess in the park. 🤣

Still haven't tracked down Painter yet?

But I've got plenty to say. Just look at this little guy:

This is how I picture Wrebox looking in ten years, I guess😬

As for Painter, he looks way too much like Mike Hammer to me😍

Jamie Fowler2 said:Man, you really picked a controversial figure to bring up here 🙂

I've watched him and his main instructor before, and I actually have some of his books. There's a lot to learn from him, honestly. Some of those tricks he's picked up over forty years of training are just insane (like dodging a kidney shot... okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit). It's just whenever he starts talking about his master, Bruce Lee, people start getting skeptical.

People say he's a solid fighter—even the guys who usually trash him admit that.

His books have some pretty cool theories on neuromuscular connections and kinesiological breakdowns of internal martial arts.

Now if you could just dig up John Painter and ask him about the guy...

I figured 😍
Jamie Fowler2 would chime in.
Is anyone even hating on him?
I'd really appreciate it if you could break down those theories for me; they're kind of hard to wrap my head around.
What does your Chinese contact say about him and his teacher?

And what do you think of these sites:

I'll try to dig up what he's charging; that might help me make up my mind.

He charges a ridiculous amount. Apparently, a two-day seminar is $200, maybe even more...

don't really have an opinion since I haven't heard of him before... you clearly know the guy well, so maybe it'd be cool if you shared some info on him here😉

Not a bad idea for a thread...
I guess he's one of the big ones out there. Would love to hear what Robin Palmer3 thinks about him.

So... what do the experts 😬 on this forum think about this guy and his whole setup? Anyone actually sat through one of his videos or dug into his book?

Look, since I know how hard those Scherkels hit, and I know exactly where they aim, this isn't really funny to me.

First off, you get that feeling when you smack your elbow on a desk and a tingle shoots right to your pinky—that's just biology. Second, a cheap shot from behind? That's not art, it's just a sucker punch. And third, hitting someone in the nose or the cheekbone... yeah, there's no mystery there either.

He'll probably be the first one to tell you there are more effective ways to do it... but the whole point of the article was Kyusho Jutsu, so he was just demonstrating that.

Wait, isn't that George and Zack in the photos? What year was that issue from?

Is that Dim Mak? Does Hao use that too?

Jamie Fowler2 said:Look, I'm no expert, but it seems like you don't know anything about Tai Chi. (basically: I'm talking nonsense)

I don't know much about his Ba Gua since I don't practice it, but honestly, like 95% of Ba Gua teachers can't even use it in a real fight. It's probably just a Taoist meditation system anyway. (yeah, totally talking nonsense)

His Xing Yi, though... that's got clear combat value. Even if you doubt it (and you do, right?), it’s still worth learning the basic Xing Yi forms and techniques from him. I'm not talking nonsense there because I actually know a thing or two about it.

As for Wing Chun, it feels like there are way fewer training methods compared to Tai Chi. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's mostly just chi sao and variations (chi gerk? eye gouges? stick work?), three empty hand forms, short sticks, and maybe some broadsword stuff, right? How many "words" does Wing Chun even have?

👍 You can really see that little loudmouth's influence. He thinks if he doesn't know something, then it doesn't exist. If Wing Chun has fewer training methods than Tai Chi, why can't Tai Chi be used as a combat method? 😳
