Hold up... Shoto Tanemura, the guy who left Bunjikan back in '84?

If you're just coming at me because I trained under Hao, then just say that. Tell me exactly what I'm doing wrong or saying wrong.

I don't care about any of that nonsense. You mentioned your Chinese contact in New Orleans does Xing Yi. That's what I want to see. If he actually has even a little bit of wu de, he won't be acting like you.

Go ahead, find a single post where I claim I'm training mystical stuff. 😛 Those hand movements (the five elements) that Hao teaches are just the entry level for Xing Yi. You can't understand the art without practicing them. Don't take my word for it—just ask your guy.

Yeah, that exact Shoto.
So you trained with Hao? Does that mean you're done learning? Or did he teach you everything there is to know?
I'm not really gonna try explaining anything to you until you see it for yourself.
What exactly do you want me to say? About how I'm behaving?
Look, Hao only teaches the basics. Like, the absolute bare minimum. He doesn't really know anything beyond that.

Spot on. Sun tzu asked about the trigrams, so I gave him an answer.

Hey everyone! Hope you're all shedding those Christmas pounds. I bet you missed me, 😍 though maybe, I don't know, you shouldn't have deleted that one post where I was doing my best impression of that little dwarf Hao talking about himself. In my humble opinion, that post was basically a masterpiece of forum history...

What was it you said about Ba gwa? I guess you were wondering if Hao knew what it was actually used for?

Justin Watson5 said:...there it is, I guess...

Check this out if you want to dive into some Wushu history. It’s basically a deep dive into Jet Li's martial arts journey and his whole career path. Pretty cool stuff for anyone interested in the technical side of things. I guess it's worth a look.

Yeah, you can tell from that look he probably hasn't mastered anything yet. Maybe like Jamie Fowler's sensei, or maybe even like Brandon Hayes73, I guess. 🤣 Too many different styles, too little actual knowledge... Honestly, BJJ is just incredibly complex on its own. I guess Jamie Fowler wouldn't even be able to wrap his head around it—not the art itself, and certainly not what she actually brings to the table. So, yeah, you can't just "train her a little bit" and claim you know her style.
Yeah, forget about that nonsense from Jamie Fowler2 about him teaching you everything in five minutes. Total joke. If you're really that obsessed with Ba gwa, though, I guess I could give you a recommendation... but honestly, that doesn't mean you'll actually get in. Plus, it’s pretty far away, and I don't even know where you're coming from.

Justin Watson58 said:...and Jet Li also uses the Bagua form...😕

I mean, I don't think Jet Li has anything to do with Bagua. As far as I know, he mostly practiced Long Fist kung fu.

Jamie Fowler2 said:If I'm not mistaken, that's Guoyong—total master of the Hebei style. Right now, he’s probably the biggest name in Xing Yi, maybe just alongside Luo De Xiu.

The two main styles of Xing Yi—the Shanxi and Henan versions—look pretty different from this one. One’s way softer, I guess. The other is much more explosive and powerful.

Here's an example of some damn good, old-school Xing Yi—the Che family style, more or less.

There are two main combat techniques—usually the first ones you learn and the ones you drill the most:
I guess this video might be worth a look if you have some time. Maybe.

Man, these doctors... they can be so damn stubborn when they think they're the smartest people in the room. I guess. 🤣

Jamie Fowler2 said:mda? and you probably couldn't even tell me how any of those moves actually work in a real fight anyway.

Anyway, nobody really knows what Baguazhang is even about :P but it might be something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nf0YtbzuvoI

First time I've heard Jamie Fowler2 say something that actually makes sense. That video above is just some Wushu gymnast doing Ba Gua stuff, it doesn't have much to do with actual Ba Gua Chang forms. Same goes for the forms Jamie Fowler2 mentioned—they look like Xingyi forms, but they don't really connect to Xingyi since he probably doesn't even get what they're for...

Jamie Fowler2 said:no joke... the whole bagua thing was made by a guy actually named Bagua. And honestly, real masters of bagua make that baaaaa-gwaaaaa sound while they breathe. 😬

but seriously though. That one baguazhang drill that's worth the most is just walking in circles. forget all the variations and stuff, just the walking in circles is plenty.

Forget the variations? That’s basically what your si fa is, right? What about sensitivity drills?
So, I guess you're some kind of bagua master since you know so much about it?
General Chat & Info Board in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
Jamie Fowler2 said:I’ve got this drill I could teach you in like five minutes. You’d gotta grind it for maybe two months straight, then just ten or thirty minutes a day after that. It covers about 80% of what you’re looking for.

Don't listen to Jamie Fowler2, honestly. He doesn't have a clue. One time he actually claimed Bagua was just some Taoist meditation thing and wasn't even a martial art. His Chinese instructor had to set him straight right before Kuzman kicked him out of that shelter.
Kuzman is the kind of guy who once almost drugged Jamie Fowler2's little mentor. Total fraud, and a real jerk too.
Anyway, Bagua has everything Xingyi has and way more. But Jamie Fowler2 can't teach you any of that because, well, he just doesn't know it...

ps. and him claiming he's some kind of expert... man, that just hurts. there's tons of guys like that on every street corner in America😁

And yeah, he added "Wing Chun" into his style for New York City. That New York City stuff is probably killer—mixing "Wing Chun," jujutsu, arnis, and aikijutsu? gotta be deadly...
Urban survival school in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
ruggedfalcon2 said:is that really what he said????

Nah. He just claimed he's some kind of Kung Fu expert, though he pronounces it like "ving chang" or whatever. 😛

Just curious.
George Martin70, you saying that diploma is fake?

Dunno about the diploma. I just know Mirek was basically an honorary leader while Damir Kukulj was away, and he only had an honorary belt. Kevin Pell, along with guys like him, will hand out belts to anyone willing to cough up the monthly cash for a license.
As for how legit Mirek is... I already brought up the whole Aiki-jutsu thing. And regarding everything else; what part of this is even Ju jutsu? Maybe placidbison20 could explain that better, but from what I know, those throws are called Goshin jutsu in Japan, and in China, there's zero connection to Ju jutsu. Also, I probably shouldn't even comment on his Wing Chun expertise since he only trained with Truntić for a few months...
Urban survival school in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
Nah, Kukulj didn't give him that.
Urban survival school in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
placidbison20 said:If I'm getting this right, Kukulj gave him that second day.
If you're right, then Kukulj is totally screwed.
Or maybe you're wrong.
If there's some other side to this, please explain, I'm curious.

Nah, that's not it. Kukulj just gave him an honorary day and the green light to run "Ronin" while he was away in the United States. Later on, Mirek basically bought that second day from Kevin Pell. He's never really explained why he sticks to those quasi-Japanese ceremonies when it's actually his own—well, his American style. It's also pretty weird how he brags about teaching Aiki-jutsu when he's never actually done it, maybe besides watching some old VHS tapes.
Why would Kukulj be screwed?

Finally, someone with an actual thread!!! 😍

The urban survival school stuff and their sensei are definitely my favorite topics.
So, here goes:
The survival school was founded by sensei Damir Kukulj (an actual sensei, unlike his future student). Back when he’d fly back from the United States once or twice a year, he’d run seminars for a handful of regulars, teaching them the basics of Arnis and Jujutsu. One of the least talented guys there was this high school economics teacher—just a totally stiff former karate guy. This ego-driven dude thought he had a massive skill set after training for maybe 2 or 3 months:

http://www.urbanazg.com/osnivac.shtml

He's also super proud of being on the board of some motocross association, which I guess he thinks counts as a martial art too. 🙏
He couldn't really make a name for himself at any other clubs or under any other instructors, so he couldn't pull off the whole "respected founder" thing or start his own organization.
Then, after just 3 or 4 seminars where he picked up a few breaks and some joint locks, he decided to ditch Damir Kukulj and mash together everything he learned in those few months. He called his weird, nonsensical little style "Urban, survival school," which is basically just stealing Damir's name.
Mirek insists everyone calls him sensei, so that's how he introduces himself. He even designed his own gi and stays obsessed with bowing and Japanese ceremonies, especially the bowing part:
