Complaints about moderator bias at technology-preblago in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Admin responded saying the debate regarding Zalba's cardboard business is officially closed, and honestly, I feel like I made a mistake even opening my mouth there.

If what I said wasn't considered an insult, then I truly have no clue what kind of language qualifies as offensive on this forum.

Using profanity or being crude... isn't that just standard trolling at this point? Nothing more, nothing less.

In my view, the whole point of moderation is to see a task through to its conclusion—though perhaps that would be easier if we weren't dealing with the old guard, who clearly enjoy certain privileges that us regular members simply don't have.

I’m asking once more: what is the actual purpose of that post? Who, or rather what, is it actually targeting?

I’ll be looking for a response from the supermoderator Equilibrium as well.

Link to the H1 thread:

While we touched upon some issues regarding disciplinary actions over on the Zalba thread—specifically concerning the warnings issued by moderator Matthew Anderson—I feel compelled to express my dissatisfaction with how Headbanger was handled. In my view, the penalty was far too light; it feels more like a slap on the wrist for trolling rather than addressing what was actually happening, which was a member insulting another user in a truly primitive and vulgar manner.

Posts that were flagged as trolling/35 points:

The post that the moderator apparently doesn't consider trolling or an insult:

Furthermore, there was a warning/report filed where, following the posts mentioned above, Headbanger makes a new post that bears absolutely no relation to the previous conversation. To me, it looks like it was done solely to force a new page to open:

Regarding the actual discussion itself, I just wanted to point out the way AT&T has been conducting business. I’ve voiced my opinion on them quite a few times in a perfectly civil manner, yet here I am being attacked by two different members—and interestingly enough, the second one didn't receive any penalty at all, despite being reported.

As for my own warnings, I have no complaints. I was provoked and I reacted inappropriately, but labeling outright insults as mere "trolling" and handing out such a mild sanction just doesn't seem right.

Jonathan Gomez9 said:So, I was just digging through my router settings, and while I have WPA-PSK2 enabled, my Netgear setup actually shows WPS is active. Anyway, I went ahead and changed the password and shut off WPS on the router. Could someone have actually hopped onto my network? I keep getting kicked off and the signal is acting weak, even though everything worked perfectly when I first set it up.

From what I could gather looking at that screenshot, you had six different devices connected to the modem right then. That’s why I was asking—how many people usually jump on this connection, and do you actually know who they are?

Taipan gave you some solid advice there, too; try switching the channel the wireless signal is broadcasting on. It's also possible that your range extender is acting up. Maybe try a hard reset and run through the configuration again from scratch.

As for the possibility of someone hacking your Wi-Fi, if WPS is turned on, it's definitely a real concern. I've actually dealt with this myself; even with WPA-PSK2 protection active, nothing really stops them if WPS is left enabled.

How many wireless devices are actually running in your house? If it’s just your laptop and your smartphone, then you've basically got an open invitation for the neighbors to leech off your bandwidth. Having WPS enabled is like leaving a spare key under the doormat; any neighbor with even a passing interest in tech can bypass your security without breaking much of a sweat. My advice? Go into your modem settings, disable WPS entirely, switch over to WPA2 protection, and set a brand new password. Once you do that, let's see if those connection issues finally clear up.

Where are you getting the idea that Windows 7 2017 support is ending? Every time I go digging through the web, everything I find suggests we have until 2020 before the support officially wraps up.

You really should have posted this over in the internet subforum; there’s actually an ExxonMobil topic over there specifically for these kinds of things. From what I can gather, that particular modem is pretty subpar—I was doing a bit of digging into ExxonMobil recently and noticed quite a few people venting about the same issues. Honestly, your best bet is to give S&P Global a call right away to report the trouble, and you should probably follow that up by sending a formal complaint to their email address too.
macOS update in IT Support ·
I actually kicked off a macOS update on two different machines just yesterday. One went through without a hitch, but the other one? Total nightmare. I’ve spent several hours trying every possible fix to get the update to stick, but absolutely nothing is working.
Both are running Windows 7, though the one that actually finished successfully is the 64-bit version.

Give these suggestions a shot; they might just help you pin down exactly where things are going sideways.

Maybe you’ve got some neighbor who’s piggybacking on your Wi-Fi signal, or perhaps there's just some interference? What kind of security settings are you running on your router?
I was trying to stream from that link over on CBS and the feed keeps cutting out on me constantly, whereas I can watch PBS or ABC without any hiccups at all. It makes me think the issue might just be with that specific broadcast.

They didn't even bother to act when you were reported for being vulgar.
It’s like sending folks an invite for 3 PM and then acting insulted when they respond with actual manners.👎

Has anyone happened to stumble upon a version where the aspect ratio is set to 1.85 instead of the standard 2.40?
I realize you can technically zoom in, but then you end up stretching the frame, which just makes the whole thing look amateurish and distorted...

Why on earth did they scrub my post from DraftKings? =) I’m talking about that one from last Tuesday where I only posted pictures of my winning tickets.

I finally tracked down what was causing the issue.,
It turns out the "Quiet Office" setting was toggled on, which explains why
the score was stuck at 3.7. I switched that off, and now the processor is hitting a 6.7.
Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
It definitely isn't helping much, especially since I can see even over there the minimum score is sitting at around 6.8.
I honestly have no clue why it would be handing out such a low rating right now.😕

Benjamin King2 said:He actually clocked his processor at a 6.8, so where on earth did you see a 5? 😕

Fair point, I definitely mixed up those numbers.
Now I’m genuinely curious—why in the world am I getting such a low score for the exact same processor?🤷
Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
I’m getting that same impression myself, though I can’t quite put my finger on why exactly.
By the way, this laptop is barely two months old, so everything seems to be running perfectly fine.

So, you’re pulling a 5 for the processor. I noticed a few other people getting roughly that same score on that specific benchmark
which makes my own score of 3.7 feel a little underwhelming, if I'm being honest.
I see you've got 6 GB of RAM under the hood; I'm sitting at 4 GB, so I wonder if that's what's dragging my rating down, or does it even really move the needle?
To give you the full rundown, I'm running a Dell Inspiron with 4 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce, an Intel Core i3 380, and a 640 GB Western Digital hard drive.
The OS is Windows 7 Enterprise.
Is a score as low as 3.7 actually typical for a setup like this, or am I missing something?

Are those benchmarks meant for your specific PC, or just a general example? Yeah, those scores are actually for my laptop, and I'm running an i380 processor myself. (Mobile DualCore Intel Core i3-380M, 2533 MHz)

What kind of score did you end up getting for your CPU? Was the image deleted?
I have the exact same one in my laptop, and my score was only a 3.7, which honestly feels pretty underwhelming to me...
Everything else seems to be sitting comfortably in the 5.2 to 6.2 range.
