I just don't know how it's gonna melt all that dried blood away... I was playing detective today, poking around with my flashlight, and honestly, there's some crazy stuff going on in there

🙂 Don't even sweat it, it'll come out on its own. The human body is actually kind of amazing like that. Just please, stay away from any "DIY doctor" projects, okay? Everything is still super sensitive inside 😛 plus those scabs are basically protecting the new tissue forming underneath. You really shouldn't pick them too early (it's just like when you scrape your knee and you can't stop scratching because it itches so bad, and then you end up with a scar—you've gotta let it heal all the way through first)
Hannah Baker23 said:hey guys, quick question: is rinsing your nose with chamomile tea actually a thing? A friend of mine who had nose surgery said it’s better than using Aqua Maris spray??

First night after getting the tampons out, I could breathe through both nostrils perfectly... but sadly, that was just for one night. Now most of the time they're either both stuffed up or taking turns clogging me up. At first it was dried blood, now maybe it's mucus? Because I feel like I'm constantly swallowing stuff down my throat... honestly, I don't even know if I picked up some virus or if this is just how it goes...

sterile saline solution is the way to go; if you're using Aqua Maris, stick to isotonic—not hypo or hyper (meaning the salt concentration should be exactly like human blood, nothing more, nothing less). Chamomile doesn't really meet those requirements. If you want it to feel a bit better, warm up whatever amount you're rinsing with to near body temperature (just lukewarm, don't make it hot)...

how long has it been since the surgery? Just factor in that about a week of recovery for the mucous membranes is totally normal—that's basically how long it takes to bounce back from a nasty cold too...

I have a septoplasty scheduled there, and I actually asked if they could just do a rhinoplasty at the same time, but they told me that would be too much all at once. I can't tell if they're being serious about that or if they just don't want to do it...

Wait, didn't you go see someone else for a checkup? Like, did you try to get a second opinion? Honestly, nobody's gonna give you a straight answer until they've actually looked you over themselves.

Before jumping into something like that, you really need to feel like you can trust your doctor, plus you need to have all the facts. This whole situation doesn't sound right to me...

Hormonal Contraception: The Pill [General Discussion] in Women's Health ·
The overview I laid out is just the standard protocol when first you start transcribing hormone prescriptions, based on the question asked here. If a patient has been on a specific med before, it’s super easy for the next doctor to just renew the script without doing a deep dive...

Just because someone isn't doing their job quite by the book doesn't mean the standard procedure should be described differently. Mentioning certain medical history is just about getting the full picture of what actually matters for hormonal birth control. Like, having the flu last fall or breaking a leg when you were a kid? Doesn't matter. But cardiovascular issues, diabetes, or a family history of blood clotting? That's the real deal...

The second your doctor sees you, certain risks jump right out at them. They don't necessarily need to grill you just to eyeball a normal BMI. If someone walks in looking young and fit, healthy complexion, says they're fine and their family is too... honestly, they might not even bother with the scale or a blood pressure cuff. Are we aiming for the bare minimum here, or following the actual standard practice?

...
Hormonal Contraception: The Pill [General Discussion] in Women's Health ·
Basically, they gotta make sure you don't have any underlying risk factors that would make hormone treatments a bad idea in the first place.

They’ll sit down and go over your whole medical history—past and present—plus anything that runs in the family. Like, if there’s a history of breast cancer, blood clots, or strokes among the women in your family... stuff like that. They’ll check your blood pressure, get your weight on the scale, and ask when you last had a breast exam (or if you’ve even had one). And yeah, they’ll definitely ask about smoking, because they need to lay out how much smoking actually spikes those serious risks when you're on hormonal birth control.

Then comes the gyno exam, the Pap smear, and getting sent off for blood work. When it comes to the pill, checking your liver function is huge, but honestly, all those other lab results matter just as much.

How fast you actually get your hands on them really just boils down to how quick you can grab those test results and get back in front of the doctor.

Warm Bodies (2013) in Movies ·
I was honestly worried all the good jokes would be wasted in the buildup and I'd end up hating the movie—but it actually wasn't bad at all. Honestly, you just need to watch stuff like this with a great crowd and the right vibe 😍 it’s not really meant for nitpicking the script, it's just there for the ride. though, if you're feeling deep, I guess there's a metaphorical layer about alienation and accepting outsiders and blah blah blah, if you're into that kind of thing. It's a zombie film, okay.

I remember that guy from Twilight, he's awesome. And yeah, I think it’s a solid pick for young couples who just want to laugh. btw, the lead girl's friend 👍 is genius

Sandra Nelson said:I went down a total rabbit hole looking up photos of pressure sores online... honestly, I wish I hadn't. It was pretty gnarly... definitely not something you want to see while you're just scrolling through your feed...😲 Thanks for jumping into the thread and sharing your thoughts, but honestly... I don't think that's really my thing... 😉

Wait, @Sandra Nelson/">@@Sandra Nelson... I’m looking through this thread and I don't see anything else from you. Not even a single previous post or any kind of breakdown regarding what you're actually dealing with... nothing at all...

So... first signs... you know, that weird feeling when things just start feeling *off*... like you can't quite put your finger on it but your gut is screaming at you... turns out those early red flags are usually the most important part... if you catch them early... maybe... anyway... what are we even looking for here? Pressure sores usually start out as these pinkish or reddish patches, and if you touch them, the skin feels super dry... those photos people are talking about probably aren't showing the very first signs, right? They typically pop up in spots where there's constant pressure—like if someone's been sitting in one position for way too long, for example...

Look, I get it. There are probably like a hundred different types of dermatitis and other skin issues that look almost identical... but honestly? When you're dealing with someone who’s generally healthy and actually moving around normally, the whole process of figuring this out is pretty straightforward. You can rule out whether it's just a localized circulation issue or something else way faster than people think...

lonetiger98 said:I mean, isn't it kind of wild that you're seeing pressure sores in young people?🤣

😲 It’s just awful... honestly, there's no limit to how much someone can tear themselves apart 🙂

This part should be easy enough to prevent, assuming you actually understand what's happening and why...
Bruises on my butt cheeks in Health ·
Those could be the first signs of pressure sores.

Basically, your body weight creates all this intense pressure between your bones, your tissue, and whatever surface you’re sitting or lying on. If you don't shift positions often enough, the blood and lymph circulation gets squeezed so hard that the tissue actually starts to die... necrosis sets in. For really sick patients stuck in bed, two hours without moving is basically the "red alert" limit—you have to reposition them before open wounds start forming. Being cold does similar damage to the skin and subcutaneous tissue too.

You've gotta avoid sitting still for way too long, wearing tight clothes that dig in (like skinny jeans), and putting constant pressure on any area that's already looking red or dark...

Usually, we tell patients to watch their diet and stay hydrated, but honestly? In your case, I’d say just get up at least every 45 minutes. Stretch a bit, massage the area, drink more plain water, and try adding some protein and Vitamin C to your meals. Also, find a different way to sit while studying... maybe grab a different cushion for your desk chair.

Overdose on pills in Health ·
@Harold Chavez3 - don't even bother trying to break those pills, you gotta take them whole.

The amount of codeine in Excedrin is pretty low, but if caffeine isn't your thing, your heart is still gonna be racing like crazy from it...

Harold Chavez3 said:Hey,

I’ve got this brutal toothache. I took one Zaldiar this morning—which, by the way, isn't even doing much—and then spent the day taking four half-doses of Voltaren ER. To top it all off, about thirty minutes ago, I popped an Excedrin because nothing else was touching the pain. Now, I have this nagging feeling that the whole cocktail is starting to hit me at once..

I'm feeling some pressure in my chest... my breathing feels a bit shallow, and there's this sharp, stabbing sensation on both the left and right sides of my stomach area. It's nothing catastrophic, just this heavy, oppressive weight hanging over me..

Was that a bad combination of meds? Should I be worried?

velvetmoose9 said:Taking this specific combination of drugs in such a short window is basically playing Russian roulette with your own health. It's incredibly reckless.
By taking 4 and a half Voltaren ER pills (assuming we're talking 100mg tablets), you've way exceeded the recommended daily dose of diclofenac. This kind of combo can do serious damage, so it makes total sense to check in with a doctor ASAP (usually the packaging lists the max daily dose, which I'm sure you saw).
And honestly, adding Nalgesin on top of everything else you've already swallowed today? You might as well call that a direct assault on your stomach, kidneys, and maybe even your heart and a few other vital systems.

I'm totally with everyone else on this—that combo is just asking for trouble. I was looking at what Harold Chavez3 said about taking half a Voltaren ER pill four separate times... I mean, that’s two whole tablets total. Honestly? It’s still way too much and honestly just pointless. If one pill doesn't touch the pain, doubling up isn't going to be some magic fix... plus, it's not exactly life-threatening in most cases. Sure, you hear those rare horror stories about GI bleeding where things get serious, but for the vast majority of people, it's just overkill. And for the record, those ER tablets have a special coating designed specifically to release the meds slowly over time... you really shouldn't be breaking them, crushing them, or crumbling them up... it ruins the whole point...

Man, that caffeine in Excedrin can seriously mess with you... if you aren't used to it, or if you're already totally fried from stress like I was... you can end up with that crazy heart palpitations and anxiety kicking in out of nowhere... it's intense...

When you're dealing with pain this intense, it’s honestly brutal... you just have to hang in there and wait for the meds to actually kick in. Most painkillers—unless the label specifically tells you otherwise—usually work better and faster if you grab a little something to eat first. Don't just take them on an empty stomach... trust me...

I found this PDF from a dental clinic that’s actually loaded with advice on which painkillers really hit the spot when you're dealing with a toothache... definitely worth a look if you're hurting...

mellowcobra8 said:I’m mostly a left-side sleeper too, honestly had no clue it was bad news... I’m also looking into those options covered by insurance, but let’s be real, all those rich kids don't even worry about it since their dads just hand over the cash and they're good to go, right?
those of us without that kind of backup just have to sit tight and deal with it
anyway, everyone I talk to swears you can get a nose job for basically nothing through your insurance, but my big fear is that if I don't pay out of pocket, some surgeon is gonna do a hack job on me... like, if I'm not paying much, why would they actually bother fixing it properly or shortening it...?

Go see your primary care doctor first and ask for a referral to a specialist, then check out here: http://www.mayoclinic.org/index.php?id=83 or maybe over here: http://www.clevelandclinic.org/clinics_and_specialties_head_and_neck

(Those sites should have phone numbers so you can actually schedule an appointment.)

They’ll tell you exactly what can or can't be done with your nose, what the fine print is, what Medicare will cover versus what you'll have to pay extra for... that way, nobody's gonna mess you over.

Private practices usually list their prices online, though they can be pretty flexible with them, but until you actually show up for a consultation, nobody can give you a rock-solid quote on what the whole surgery will cost.

@GLAVATAR - thanks for the info (most of those were actually answers to my questions anyway, rather than stuff for @Hayde 🙂)

/this whole allergy thing is super messy and honestly isn't even clearly defined by science yet, so I won't get too bogged down in the weeds since we're drifting off-topic; basically, I was thinking about food intolerance blood tests versus those standard skin prick allergy tests.

Real allergies are pretty easy to spot: you get these fast, intense reactions in your skin, mucous membranes, or airways when you hit an allergen. But food intolerances? Those are way more subtle and sneaky, playing the long game with things like eczema (you know, those rashes that pop up nowhere near where the food actually touched you), digestive issues, chronic asthma, and all that good stuff.

That's why I'm saying I'm 100% certain I'm allergic to grass pollen, cat dander, and hazelnuts, for example... but as for that egg white intolerance my test flagged—along with corn and kola nuts—I'm not totally sure. I'll probably just avoid them, though maybe not quite as strictly.

They used to carry it at Nike, but they probably won't anymore. Intrapro is being phased out, and they're replacing it with IsoPure, which should be right up there with stuff like ISO100... just wondering what the price tag is gonna look like.

thanks for the heads up (honestly, just like in any small town, the "pros" always forget how to talk to us mere mortals in plain English 😛 but yeah, that's how they tell me—don't ask, just Google it, so I won't drag this out any longer)

@Master TBS - thanks 🙂

As for everyone else—honestly, how much more do I have to explain? All I wanted was to hear what the actual issue was, not just get hit with stuff like "that's crap" or "yeah, sure, whatever, you do you..." I don't make this stuff, I don't sell it, and I'm not out here pitching it to anyone—but man, reading this is getting exhausting...

Sam Roberts said:those proteins aren't even cheap—I pick up higher quality protein, 2200g, for less than $100

obviously there's no consensus on the price

@cocorina - I wasn't even looking to buy them because they were a bargain, it's just that they're easy and fast to grab. The store is right by my place, and the packaging size works way better for me than those massive 5lb tubs.

Some store brands are total garbage, some are just okay, and some are actually great... and it's the same deal at Walmart. I highly doubt they manufacture all this themselves—they probably just repackage powder made by someone else, just like they do with pasta or nail polish remover. For example, I love Dove cream from the same manufacturer, but then I get a nasty allergic reaction to Dove Soft Cream. I can't really judge one specific product based on whether some other random item in the same aisle doesn't work for me.

So, I’ve been deep-diving into this whole Master TBS thing... honestly? It’s kind of a trip. You spend all this time trying to wrap your head around the mechanics, thinking you've finally cracked the code, and then—bam—everything shifts again. It's like that feeling when you're halfway through a massive project at work and realize you totally misread the brief... just a complete reset. But man, once it clicks... once you actually start seeing the patterns instead of just staring at the noise... it’s different. It's intense. I'm still working through some of the finer points, though. Still feels like there's a layer of complexity I haven't quite peeled back yet... maybe tomorrow. Or next week. We'll see... Donna Johnson16 says:
...
The very first thing that’s a total red flag? Isolated Soy. That was the absolute first thing I ran into when I started digging into this... http://forum.teretana.net/viewtopic....b398e60afde80c I mean, I think I remember seeing some study about that on T-Mobile back in the day... If we’re gonna start talking about soy, honestly? Total disaster. But that's a whole other rabbit hole and probably not what we need to get into right now...
I mean, you could also look at it from the angle that there just isn't enough of it floating around out there... honestly, if you tried to dig into that part of the problem, you wouldn't even know where to start...
Typing this on my phone while I’m out and about, so excuse the mess—I can't even scroll up to double-check right now... but if I'm reading the ingredients right, it looks like milk protein rather than actual whey. If that's the case, you know the deal... whey is hands down one of the absolute best picks for post-workout nutrition.
I mean, at the end of the day... what actually high-quality product is ever gonna be that cheap? It just doesn't happen... 🙂

Please don't hate me for still coming at you guys with all these follow-up questions... I know I'm being a bit much...

So, is soy actually good for you or is it total garbage? Honestly, it just depends on which study you happen to be digging through... there’s a massive amount of research out there that swears by it being great. Like, if you just look at the general consensus in most encyclopedias and mainstream health data, the numbers lean heavily toward it being a solid choice. But man, the debate never ends...

So, here's the deal with soybean protein... it’s actually what you'd call a "complete protein," which basically means it packs every single essential amino acid our bodies need to actually function. It's pretty much the gold standard for plant stuff. Honestly, if you look at it closely, it's almost identical to the protein structure found in other legumes—you know, those 7S and 11S storage proteins they all share—but soy just hits different because it's so incredibly cheap. Like, seriously, it's one of the most budget-friendly ways to get your protein fix without breaking the bank... just a solid, reliable staple for anyone watching their wallet...
...
Isolates Soy...
So, let's talk about Isolates Soy. If you're looking at the label, this stuff is basically the ultra-purified, heavy-duty version of soy protein—we're talking at least 90% protein when you strip away the moisture. It’s basically crafted from defatted soy flour where they've gone in and stripped out almost all the junk, like the fats and the carbs. Honestly, that’s the best part... since those extra bits are gone, the flavor is super neutral, and you won't be dealing with that dreaded bloating or gas from all that bacterial fermentation happening in your gut... much better...

...

I don't even touch soy, honestly... just can't stand the taste. This powder I've been using only has like 4.5% Isolates Soy in it. And since I'm only taking 30 grams a day, even if there was some kind of estrogenic effect, it's literally a thousand times less than what's in my birth control pills... which, ya know, I actually take. Whatever. Personally, the artificial sweeteners bug me way more, though people can never seem to agree on whether aspartame is actually carcinogenic or not. Probably less dangerous than staring at a cell phone all day anyway...

So, about this whole "milk protein" versus "whey" thing... someone please walk me through the lingo here because I'm lost. In English, whey is just the liquid byproduct you get from milk when you're making cheese, right? But everyone keeps saying whey is a "milk protein," so what else would it even be? And honestly, you guys are always preaching about sticking to low-fat yogurt or cottage cheese at the gym and stuff... so if those are the gold standard, why the hell are these specific milk proteins being treated like they're bad news? ...

Honestly, all those posts on this gym forum just feel like a bunch of hearsay... just people repeating someone else's negative vibes without having any actual proof to back it up. Like, sure, maybe some powder tasted like absolute garbage to someone a few years ago—but that’s not me at all. I’m all about the vanilla, and my buddy swears by the chocolate one... it's really not that deep... 🤷 What kind of argument is that even supposed to be...?

So you're saying you think it’s definitely a bad move just because the price tag is low... and then everyone jumping in after you is like, "Actually, it's not even cheap, and there are better options out there for less"... except nobody can actually explain *why*... they just throw the words around without any substance. Like, what am I even supposed to make of all that...?

Look, I don't work for Walmart or anything, and I've got zero connection to them... it just drives me nuts when some amateur walks in and talks down to people like they're idiots. Like, you just snap that something "isn't good enough" without even bothering—or maybe you just don't have the actual knowledge—to explain *why*... (And hey, this isn't aimed at you, Master TBS, I actually appreciate the effort you put in)... It’s like just because someone doesn't get something right away, it means they aren't worth the explanation. Just be straight with people, no judgment... we were all clueless babies once, weren't we?...

hollowdrifter3 said:Most of the proteins that got lab tested later showed some tiny deviation from the label, usually just traces of soy. But that’s not even the issue—the real kicker is that the whey is loaded with lactose, while soy is an isolate. Or at least, that's what people say...

I remember reading about those proteins from Walmart a long time ago, back when I didn't know a damn thing about this stuff myself 🙂

Here are a few links, give 'em a read... just forum experiences. You'll find some nonsense in there too, like claims that the defects were caused by that. Just skip over that part 😁 Focus on the actual quality and the whole deal with the soy isolate story...

After digging through everything, I’ve realized they all say: this sucks, but why? It's still totally vague. I get that someone found the taste gross a few years back, but saying a product that labels itself as having 4% carbs is "full of lactose"??? Someone did an independent lab test on the powder and found barely any deviations, so how does that work? Lactose—dairy sugar—is a carb. Was the German label on that Walmart product from 2012 just straight-up lying?

🙂 thanks a ton, man, I'll definitely give it a read.

Look, if we're talking about estrogen issues from that 4.5% soy—I'm a woman 😬, so honestly, it's not a massive deal for me. Total carbs are sitting at 4.1g per 100g of powder, with 3.2g being sugar, so it’s not like it's absolutely loaded with lactose—which is a carb anyway.

Maybe I'm just being stubborn, but I really hope the fact that they're relatively cheap doesn't make you guys look down on the product... I'm just hoping there's an actual, legitimate reason to pass on it. Like, those links above talk about some older versions that tasted pretty nasty—but this one is the new vanilla flavor, and it actually tastes decent.
