How society views people with disabilities in Psychology ·
There was a stretch of my life where I was constantly crossing paths with people living with disabilities. Honestly, they taught me more than anyone else ever could. If I didn't get something, I just asked. No big deal.

The real issue? People's ignorance. They don't know how to communicate, they get awkward, and then they just look away because it's easier than dealing with reality. It's pathetic. I have a four-year-old, and I make sure we talk about everything—including disability. We live near a kid who’s blind and uses a service dog. My daughter kept asking why that specific dog had that harness on and why she couldn't just run up and play with it. She thought it was some kind of leash. Eventually, I explained it to her right there on the sidewalk, and the guy actually overheard us. He told me he appreciated the openness. I always start with myself. How would I feel if someone were talking about my own disability like that? We really need to be more informed and just... open.

But most people couldn't care less about anyone else's struggles. We've lost our sense of empathy. Everyone loves to post about humanity online, but how many of us actually step up when it matters? Something tells me not many.
Why bother pretending? If someone’s getting on your nerves, just walk away. I finally stopped playing nice because I was sick of the fake smiles and the constant little stabs in the back from people who don't even matter. Why put up with it?

It’s rare that I actually lose my cool and just take it. Usually, I stay cold and distant—probably making it pretty clear to everyone that I can't stand them and want nothing to do with them. But I'm not staying quiet anymore. Why should I let people walk all over me?

Another circle? Just more of the same. When does it actually end? Friends or just acquaintances? Does it even matter? He cut it back so much we’re probably already labeled as freaks. Not that I care, though.

Yeah... when I meet someone new, I go looking for that one hidden thing. That secret detail only I seem to notice before anyone else does. And once I actually dare to say it out loud... that's when things get real. Really? That's all you've got?

Breakfast cereal isn't really my issue—I'll happily stick to corn flakes and milk
The real struggle is trying to make all this other junk food seem "normal" just so I can actually start working out
Miller's pastries are fine, I guess, but you can only find them at Walmart, which is a bit of a trek for me

I bake my own bread so I can do any variety I want, like adding seeds or leaving them out, but let's be honest, I eat way more than I should

Man, this is depressing

Wake up around 9:00 AM.
Half a liter of Nescafé with milk.
An hour or two later, I eat something people call "breakfast":
Cocoa puffs;
Cereal with milk;
Tuna with olive oil, mozzarella, and bread;
Toast with cream cheese, hard cheese, prosciutto, and tomato;
Some deli meat, spread, and yogurt.
Frankfurters with mayo, mustard, and bread.

Those are just a few of my usual breakfast rotations.

Lunch.
Usually around 4:00 PM, maybe later.
Spinach, mashed potatoes, and some meat—chicken, turkey, or Frankfurters.👎
Tomato soup, sautéed rice, green salad, and more chicken or turkey.
Broccoli cream soup, carrots in butter, rice, and more chicken.
Chili with corn and a cucumber salad with heavy cream.
Spaghetti with tuna, cream, and olives.
Pizza (delivery or homemade).

Dinner.
Either a repeat of breakfast.
Or just a pile of crackers and chocolate.
Rarely is it just an apple or some fruit.

If I actually eat yogurt, I stay up too late for that to last; I always end up snacking on sweets, cookies, chocolate, or chips.

Usually hit the sack around midnight.

Just a quick list of what I typically eat.
Of course, there are days when I skip breakfast entirely and just graze on cookies or croissants until late afternoon, then order a pizza for late lunch or a late dinner.

I know it's bad...

So, let's hear it.

I know that's the most important part, and honestly, it’s my biggest hurdle. Who am I even supposed to call to make sure everything is covered and I'm not just winging it and messing everything up myself?
I mean, who actually calculates the daily calorie count needed alongside a workout routine to actually see results?
A nutritionist? A personal trainer? Where do you even find people like that?

But I have no clue where or how to even start.

My weight has been all over the place for the last two years.
I'm 5'4" and 139 lbs, 36 years old.

Back in 2006, after surgery and being sick, I dropped from 139 to 110 lbs in just two months; it was unhealthy, I felt terrible—always cold, exhausted, totally burnt out—but somehow I eventually stabilized. My weight stayed steady until

June 2007, when I got pregnant and ended up at 165 lbs by the end; that's a 25 lb gain.

I gave birth, and now three months postpartum, I'm back at 139 lbs (lost 25 lbs this time during delivery); but the fat, the cellulite... don't even get me started.
The doctors said I can start exercising (had a C-section, so I was waiting for the green light), but I'm just stuck in this endless loop.

I know I need to stop eating so much sugar and junk like pizza, Frankfurters, heavy cheeses, and stuff... basically, everything unhealthy is my favorite, I eat it constantly, and the guilt is always there.
I bought an expensive stationary bike, but now it just serves as a rack for hanging my shirts. It’s got all these high-tech features I don't know how to use; honestly, my fitness level is barely enough to just move the pedals.

I don't want a diet, and I'm not looking for overnight results. I just want to eat healthier (to start) and exercise. I can't really leave the house much since the baby is only 3 months old, and my husband works all day, so there's no one to watch her.

Can I actually do something useful with this bike? Will the fat start melting away if I just stick to the bike and some home workouts?
What kind of exercises should I do? When should I work out?

Experts, help me out here...

You’re probably thinking of Preparation H; that’s stronger than Factu.

But look, you can't use any of this stuff long-term.

Dolokain actually just numbs all those external irritants because it's an anesthetic. It basically works by temporarily and reversibly blocking nerve impulses right where you apply it. You lose sensation in that area—not just pain, but heat, cold, touch, and deep pressure too.

I pulled that straight from a pharmacology site. Basically, if you rub it on those external spots, everything just gets "deadened," which is why you feel better. It's like when you go to a dentist to get a tooth pulled and they hit you with the local anesthetic. You don't feel a thing. That's how Dolokain gel operates.

Factu and Preparation H are vasoprotectives. In plain English, they're drugs that help shrink swollen veins. That's what we're dealing with here. Just in the rear end, not the legs. Using either of them for too long might actually cause stinging or itching.

Try different methods. Maybe some St. John's Wort oil after you make sure to wash up every single time you use the bathroom. It helped Men.
Period and Menstrual Cycle Talk in Women's Health ·
Mostly every 26 days
The pain isn't even that bad, just some headaches a few days before
The bleeding itself only lasts about two days
It changed after that period where my health tanked—too much stress and I dropped weight way too fast
My doctor said the short duration isn't an issue, and honestly, wouldn't most women kill to be in my position?

Hey, it’s a little weird that you're saying it doesn't look like hemorrhoids to you.

And you clearly have no clue what it actually could be.

Look, maybe you're just confused, but based on how you're describing this, I'd say it is definitely a hemorrhoid.

And no, it doesn't always have to be bleeding or excruciatingly painful for you to realize it matches exactly what everyone else on the forum is talking about.

Unfortunately.

If you aren't sure, go see a doctor quickly. They'll figure it out since you'll have to show them your backside anyway.

It’s all relative, isn't it?
Some people struggle their whole lives and just keep patching things up with the same old creams, thinking they're fine.
For others, the situation just keeps getting worse over time.
Everything depends on the individual and what you actually want to do about it.
Personally, I got tired of the creams and just went under the knife to get it sorted once and for all.

A doctor isn't going to see chemical sensitivities in your blood work; they won't know unless you actually speak up.
I just hope you aren't the type who’s too embarrassed to talk about it or deal with an exam.

Do you guys know if any local pharmacies actually stock those herbal supplements for this? And what's the damage to the wallet?
Also, if your friends actually went through with it—how often does that happen? Did they bother talking to a doctor about it, or is everyone just blindly following whatever junk they find online?

I just want to know when it all actually comes out... does it hurt?
It looks gross, but if you take a high-dose detox supplement, you'll get plenty of action.

Actually, people are probably talking about those total cleanses I saw on some documentary once.
The kind where stuff builds up in your system for years and then you try to flush it all out.
Sounds like a good idea, but honestly, it freaks me out a little.
I've tried plenty of "cleanses" before, but I've never seen anything quite this horrific.

If it's bleeding like that, you can't just sit around waiting
you need to see a proctologist, period
do it now

Watch out for muesli that has hazelnuts and other nuts in it.
Most of the time we don't chew enough, so it just scrapes against the large intestine—definitely not recommended if you're dealing with hemorrhoids.
Doctors usually focus on spicy food, you know, when things are so hot they're practically inedible.
That’s bad for anyone, let alone people dealing with rectal bleeding.
Yogurt is fine, milk is fine too...
Generally stick to cooked meals, lean meat, lots of salads and fruit.
Foods high in fiber.
For me, dried prunes are a lifesaver.
I made Dulcolax part of my routine a long time ago, you just have to figure out the right amount based on what else you're eating.
Otherwise, you'll just end up with diarrhea.

Cycling? Hmm... after my surgery, I was scared to get on a bike for a long time.
I mean, you can't do it if it hurts... so decide what you're willing to give up.
Change your eating habits, tweak your lifestyle, find that one thing holding you back or triggering those hemorrhoids.
Increase physical activity, but don't overstrain the stomach or butt area (just general movement here)—swimming is perfect for hemorrhoids; it helps soothe the pain.
Keep an eye on the area, obviously. Use ointments or try an alternative—St. John's Wort oil, it strengthens the mucous membrane.
Use wet wipes.

Kate Davis23 said:I haven't tried anything besides chamomile and fatty creams. I talked to my doctor about it, too. He told me if you even touch the colon once, everything just comes right back. So, surgery isn't on the table for me. Even if the pain is unbearable—which I've heard it is—dealing with pain isn't really my thing.😬

Yeah, they can definitely come back.
It’s like cancer surgery. For some, it’s too late; for others, they catch it just in time.
The first thing we have to handle ourselves if we go through with surgery is changing our diet and lifestyle as much as possible afterward.
That’s the main thing that actually helps me.
It’s been obvious to me for a long time: if I spend three days eating nothing but sandwiches and junk food without any fiber, skipping yogurt and fruit... I'm going to feel terrible. Really bad.
My stool will be hard again, and even Donat magnesium won't save me.
But if I stick to the rules, things are 🙏

Seriously? Every single person I tell about my issues just makes some joke about anal sex. Is that really the only advice people have?

I never liked it in the first place. So, why would I bother?

Look, sex... physical activity, I mean. As long as it isn't being aggressive and you aren't in pain, why should it be bad?

Give it a shot. You know, during that phase where nothing hurts yet and you actually think everything’s fine?
If it hurts, just stop. Problem solved, right?

So, looking at how you live your life, you basically answered your own question right there.

You spend most of your life dealing with stuff you barely even notice because you assume if it were actually serious, a doctor would bring it up.
But they won't. They aren't going to ask you anything; you have to tell them, and even then, half the time they couldn't care less.
When I went to my doctor asking for a referral for a colonoscopy—telling her I’ve had issues my whole life and that everyone in my family deals with GI problems—she wouldn't even give me the referral.
Then, when I went to a private specialist for surgery, she finally asked if I wanted a colonoscopy. Like, why now? Now I see what was really happening.
I guess she just needed more paperwork to justify my medical leave.
That’s doctors for you—they don't ask a thing unless you push them.

The problem is obvious. You've been dealing with GI issues for ages, and that's it.
If you don't fix your diet, things are only going to get worse. It's never going away; the only difference will be whether the pain and bleeding are mild or intense.

See for yourself what happens, and maybe you'll finally get some real answers.

Steven Martinez7, can I just lean on you and vent for a second?

I’ve gotta head back into Chicago to see my doctor... one of those issues—maybe even a few—is acting up again.

Ugh....

Donald Trump said:Nobody replied, so I’m asking again... there's this white patch near my anus, maybe an inch away, and it gets red and itchy sometimes. I've been slathering Nivea on it, which helped the redness, but the white spot won't go away and there's still some irritation. It's been going on forever. I'm pretty young and honestly too embarrassed to tell my parents. Should I just go to a doctor? I don't even know where to start...

If it's stinging and turning red, using random drugstore stuff like Nivea probably isn't the brightest move.
Just make sure you wash up after using the bathroom, pat dry with a towel, and use an actual medicated cream instead.

You really need to get over the embarrassment and see a doctor. Things can get ugly if you wait too long.
At the end of the day, this is just a forum and everyone's situation is different.

Avoid nuts if your digestion is acting up. Why bother?

It basically shreds your colon lining. Feels like someone’s performing surgery on you without anesthesia. You ever experienced that?
Peanuts, almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds... just forget the whole lot of it.

Eat some plums in the evening. Make them your last meal before bed. Follow them up with a glass of water—or more if you need it. What else is there?

If you’re going several times a day but it feels like a total struggle, doesn't that just mean things aren't soft or bulky enough to actually move through?

Had my gallbladder out. Now I take magnesium on an empty stomach every single morning. Might be worth a shot?
Focus on the fiber. Lots of veggies and fruit—pears, apples, prunes, figs, oranges. That's the key, right?
You need to find whatever it is that actually drives you. Because just struggling through life feeling like you haven't even cleared out the mental junk? It isn't working.
Always wash your butt in lukewarm water after you go. Or cold water. Whatever. Does it really matter?
