Brandon Edwards36 said:I'm looking for some boxing gloves, specifically 12oz. Can anyone tell me which brand is actually top-tier and where I could pick them up?

Adidas, Everlast.
Check out Pride over on Maksimirska—just Google them, they have their pricing listed online.
Or try Profightstore.
Most other specialty combat sports shops should carry them too.
As for why you're looking for the "best"... are you a pro? Because if you were actually a professional, you probably wouldn't be asking for gear advice on an internet forum. If you're just a hobbyist, honestly, just grab whatever is cheapest. Something like Pride will work just fine... everything tends to fall apart eventually anyway, depending on how hard you hit things.

Is there seriously not a single boxer from the city around here to answer this while we're stuck in quarantine?
Or maybe someone from the coast could help Charlotte23 out...

It would probably help if you mentioned which neighborhoods you're looking in...

Those prices aren't exactly great for three times a week.

Maybe just stick to Wing Chun then. It's probably better for you than MMA anyway, and honestly, it'll cost you more...😬

There’s a place called Trojan over in Pensacola. They run a really solid club there.

What should I get for a godparent gift at a Baptism? in Students & Teens ·
So, I’m stepping up as a godfather in three weeks, and honestly, I’m completely lost on what to get the kid.🤷
It feels like everyone around here has collectively lost their minds; apparently, it’s a massive "disgrace" if the godfather doesn't drop $833 a small fortune. 😲 Everyone complains about the cost when they talk about it, yet they all keep blowing through cash just because they’re terrified of the social stigma 🤦 of not buying an expensive gift. I actually asked the boy what he wanted, but since his parents were hovering nearby and jumped right in, I got the standard line: he chose me "for my presence, not for any gifts." Typical. His buddy from school already got a MacBook, some gold chain, and $167.😲
There is absolutely no way I'm dropping an entire month's salary on a single present. To be blunt, I'm getting pretty fed up with all this pressure... if I could, I'd probably just give him a copy of the Catechism 😁, just to humble everyone else and set a precedent for the other godparents, but I doubt that would go over well. I'd likely just end up being labeled the cheap guy.

So, any suggestions for a 14-year-old kid?🤷

I’m struggling to see which rule I actually broke with my post on this thread. To be honest, I’ve stated quite clearly on the Law subreddits before that I think certain statutes are absolute nonsense—that the people drafting them don't have a clue what they're talking about, and that some legal procedures are basically just mental torture for the victims involved. For some reason, you’re labeling those kinds of takes as "trolling," which suggests you might not fully grasp the subject matter yourself, and it's always easy to act superior from behind a moderator's desk. But in the specific post I’m appealing, I didn't even say anything like that.

So, which rule did I supposedly violate in the deleted post? 🤷
Since I have concerns regarding your competence as a moderator, I’d appreciate it if another moderator from the Law section could take a look at the disputed post and provide an independent judgment.
Thanks in advance.

I’m a bit baffled because my post on that specific thread in the Legal subforum was deleted by some unknown moderator. My money is on crimsonsailor7, mostly because those kinds of outbursts—where posts get nuked based on logic that only she seems to grasp—are becoming a regular occurrence over there. If it was someone else, then my apologies to crimsailor7 for pointing the finger...
Anyway, I’d appreciate some clarity on this. In my original post, I was responding to aki007's comment regarding his situation where an assailant sued him after he pulled out a heavy club to defend himself. I was simply suggesting that he consider filing a countersuit involving the girl the attacker was strangling and dragging by the neck, since it felt like that crucial detail hadn't been properly emphasized in the case against him.
Thanks.

Lawrence Watson77 said:Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone here is into MMA. I'm a total beginner and I'm about to pull the trigger on my first pair of gloves. I was hoping someone could help me figure out what size I should be looking at? My hand circumference—measuring right under the knuckles and above the middle of the palm—is 20cm. If anyone knows, please let me know ASAP! Thanks 😉

Honestly, it doesn't matter much. Just get the ones that feel right in your hand and fit your budget. And about that measurement—inches aren't really used to determine glove size in the way you seem to think... Just go try them on...
So, I assume you all caught the last fight where Mike Tyson was basically playing games with a gritty, high-effort Evander Holyfield, who just wasn't quite enough for an older Mike Tyson. The gap in class was pretty undeniable. It makes me wonder where this is all heading... Is there actually anyone left in the heavyweight division right now who can step up against them and walk away with the belt?
It’s almost funny watching these natural light-heavyweights—who look like absolute toddlers compared to the brothers, even if they are faster—thinking they can just bulk up by 10 or 15 pounds and suddenly compete in the heavyweight class. Where did all the true heavyweights go?🤷
Even back in the day, we had those "easy" heavyweights; maybe Mike Tyson is the freshest example of someone who could take down much larger opponents. But where are they now? They're nowhere to be found. If they're true heavyweights, they're probably too massive for Mike Tyson or his brother, and if they're smaller, faster, more mobile, and better in the clinch, they should theoretically be able to pull off an upset. Everyone knows the playbook, everyone prepares that way (unless they're actual giants, which most aren't), and yet they still lose every single time.
The last guy to actually beat Mike Tyson was the great Mike Tyson, but even that fight was slowly drifting toward a win for Mike Tyson; the points lead was growing so steadily that if it hadn't been for that unfortunate cut, he might have lost the belt entirely. Though, he did go on some nonsense afterward about whether he'd do another fight, especially after being rattled despite a subpar camp🙄 But I guess the man realized his time was up, decided it was better to retire as a champion, and called it quits. Still, all that verbal trash talking directed at the brothers didn't exactly sit well with him👎.

Personally, I used to find them boring and hard to watch😁, but after chatting with a former top-tier fighter, I've somewhat changed my mind. Why should they rush anything? They're world champions; they have a specific tactical rhythm that works perfectly for them. It’s up to the challengers to try and throw them off balance and force their own style onto the fight. And you can see that even the brothers can get into a real scrap when necessary—I watched the Tyson-Lewis fight recently, and you could tell Mike Tyson was truly fighting for that title. I wish challengers would fight like that instead of just running their mouths like Roy Jones Jr. did, only to end up having to bite their tongues just like the guys before him. What was Mike Tyson supposed to do against him? Get into a brawl, trade shots, slip quickly, and hunt for a lightning-fast knockout like Mike Tyson?🤷

What do you guys think?

Alexander Wilson9 said:It’s my first time posting here, so I wanted to ask: does anyone know of a good martial arts club in the Tampa area? Specifically looking for somewhere that works with individuals. I’m trying to tone up my frame—I’m about 5'7" and 115 lbs—and I really want to put on some muscle. It’s been impossible so far, even though I’m eating healthy. I cut out sweets about a month ago, which was a massive struggle since I have a serious sweet tooth, but I knew I had to start somewhere. Thanks!

🤣 Over on the island, I'm sure you can find at least ten qualified instructors or trainers easily enough...😁
As for being "frail," there's a cure for that. It's summer, and you've got the ocean right there. Just swim. Swim and keep swimming. But don't do that retiree thing where you paddle ten yards out and then head straight back to your towel; I mean putting in a few miles every single day.👍
Front crawl. And don't forget to use your legs...
I honestly thought the admins moderating this subforum had gone MIA, so I was being patient and just waiting things out. But now I see that Smart_bitch and hollowtrucker77 are actually active, yet I still haven't seen a single response. I have to ask—what am I supposed to make of that?
I asked a specific question and filed a formal report that, in my opinion, is more than justified, and then... nothing. Absolutely nothing.
At the very least, you could have just said: hiddensailor14, you're being a nuisance, I'm locking this thread so please just GTFO.
A little bit of consistency wouldn't hurt.
If I, or any other user, had posted something like: Black people are less intelligent than white people, the moderation team would have slapped me with a red card worth at least 100 points—probably closer to 500—though I wouldn't be able to redeem that coupon at my local Walmart.
And yet, here we are, looking at a statement that is, to paraphrase, much more benign: Is rural populations committing greater atrocities in war than the racial outburst mentioned above?
Who exactly is the sane one here!?👎
Let's not all rush in at once and flood the boards; I'd rather not see the servers crash, and honestly, it'll be impossible to keep up with everyone if you do...
Controversial... post It’s right here in the thread... Luka Dončić—president of the animal rights group...... on the subforum... the world around me....

And he’s actually a moderator, too... Endymion17 Just based on their own personal biases...

Endymion17 said:I don't have any specific studies to point to right now, but there’s definitely some logic to it...

The conclusions being drawn here feel like a direct shot at people like me... someone living out in the rural parts of the country. It’s honestly pretty insulting to anyone who calls the countryside home...😠

Endymion17 said:Let’s not play dumb here. It won't be everyone, obviously, but I’d venture to say that most people who don't mind—or worse, actually find some twisted satisfaction in slaughtering livestock—will have a significantly diminished sense of revulsion toward the idea of killing a human being. They just need a catalyst. Maybe it's a sudden surge of rage against someone from the "wrong" background, religion, or ethnicity... or perhaps it's just plain old-fashioned revenge...

Not only did he get it completely wrong... The root causes... I think I might have missed something there... or maybe I just hit send too early. If you were trying to say something, feel free to try again. I'm listening... purpose... Instead of just wondering why everyone seems to be in such high spirits during a backyard BBQ—you know, from the moment the grill gets fired up to that final spread of food that serves as an unwritten rule for a perfect evening—Endymion17 has managed to jump to some truly wild conclusions, much to his own embarrassment...👎 And my utter disgust...🤮 And then they actually have the nerve to link them to the absolute lowest, most disgraceful depths of human behavior...
Rural populations are more than capable of committing severe human rights violations, war crimes, and... It happens way more often than you'd think... ...from the urban population.

Endymion17 said:To make matters worse, you have to look at the horrific events surrounding the American Civil War. Generally speaking, things became much more gruesome whenever there was a higher involvement of rural aggressors—it didn't really matter if they were Americans, Mexicans, or some other group entirely... On American soil, the most appalling atrocities tended to happen in those small towns scattered across California and the Midwest, unless you count the rural criminals operating out of urban prisons.

Even if we assume it’s true that some of the worst atrocities took place out in the rural stretches of California or the Midwest, you can't jump to the conclusion that the soldiers fighting in those areas were mostly just farm kids...
I’d love to see some actual evidence to back up that first sentence. Otherwise, we're just looking at another baseless prejudice—the kind of thing that only serves to reinforce insults without any foundation. Honestly, given how educated you've proven yourself to be so far, Endymion17, I wouldn't expect you to let something like this slide...

Now Endymion17 is starting to lose the plot, getting all granular about the distinctions between shooting or poisoning someone versus using a knife. Why? Honestly, I haven't a clue... maybe he's just trying to argue that slaughtering a pig at a farm is basically the same as killing a man with a blade during the American Civil War.😕🤷 He claims that stabbing someone is inherently sadistic, which feels like just another bias from someone who knows about military combat about as much as they know about running a livestock ranch.
Most people shot or poisoned don't even die instantly.

Endymion17 said:A more civilized person, if they happen to be a malicious bastard, will opt to shoot or poison someone; whereas a less civilized individual will indulge in much harsher entertainment, which involves torture and killing with cold weapons. Slaughtering someone is far more intimate than poisoning them. You have to listen to the victim gasp and choke on their own blood, feeling their muscles tighten and seeing them shake from pure terror and pain. It’s pure sadism.

I didn't quite catch the point of that penultimate paragraph, so I'd appreciate some clarification. Are we saying pigs shouldn't be slaughtered because their "primitive" brain functions are identical to ours!?😕

Endymion17 said:The difference between a pig and a human is simply that when we look at a person, most of us see an individual—but those are primarily higher brain functions. Beneath those lie the functions responsible for more primitive thoughts, and there really isn't any difference there.

So the idea isn't entirely without merit.

The premise is incredibly discriminatory and built on nothing more than some unproven logic. I find it shameful and a crude insult, so I’m requesting that the other moderators and admins take a look at this.
If they decide I'm right, I ask for the author to be sanctioned and for Endymion17 to issue an apology to all the small-town folks on this forum, and to me personally.
