Perhaps a trip back to the countryside is necessary, as this city feels as lifeless as a fallen horse...

Name just two! 🤣

( I bet he's going to mention "Elvis Presley" next 🤣 )

A cast of incredible actors wasted on absolutely pathetic stories with barely any action. What a total disappointment!
The guy at the theater is going to eat him alive for this one...

You’re really pushing it, kid, you’re really pushing it.

I truly hope there comes a day when we actually need statistics to determine who is superior. For now, it is all quite obvious to anyone with ears...
And of course I have to compare them! It isn't like we're talking about Iceland (though maybe it is)
It breaks my heart to see all that homegrown "talent" going completely unnoticed... 😛

Besides, those folks from the Midwest are stuck in the exact same boat.
Whether you call it a "movement" or not, people keep trying to force this comparison to our local music "scene."

If this
is what passes for our "scene," then we are essentially talking about the total collapse of American music!
(With the exception of outliers like "Baby to Love," though they don't really fit the "scene" profile anyway—not in sound, not in vibe, and certainly not in style 🙂 ).

If Great Contempt represents the latest New Wave, then Queen belongs right there with them! 😁
And let’s not even get started on the band names... or those lyrics that often feel so incredibly juvenile... not to mention a lack of actual musical skill most of the time... though I suppose there is a certain raw sincerity, a genuine soulfulness toward music that just doesn't seem to exist here in America, if you'll pardon my bluntness...
Hi,

There has been quite a bit of chatter lately regarding this supposed "new American indie scene"—this emerging wave of bands that seem to be gaining traction under a certain "critically acclaimed" label. I’m thinking specifically of groups like Dalibor, ExxonMobil, and Repetitor, though there are plenty of other acts currently working on their debut albums. I am curious to hear your thoughts on them... Is this truly the birth of a new musical movement? Can the US compete with this energy, and if so, who would be our contenders? Or is the hype just being blown out of proportion?

For those who aren't familiar, here is some material:

And man, I actually really dug those Hot Chip guys...

Hot Chip?
I used to think they were totally gay. Honestly, the most flamboyant band on the planet since Bronski Beat.
Of course, setting their look aside, the music is absolutely fantastic!
🤣 🤣 🤣

I heard that Samantha Fox is available during those dates. Marić, what are we waiting for?...
🤣 🤣
Alright, can someone please explain to me what Dreadzone actually is? What kind of sound are we talking about here? Is it just some club music for party animals or what?
They seem to be incredibly popular lately. I've been listening on YouTube, but honestly, it doesn't even sound like 🤷🤷

For those who aren't aware, Dreadzone has just been announced as one of the headliners for the upcoming show at Madison Square Garden
Here are some suggestions for the lineup...

The Fratellis are such a powerhouse live act, offering a collection of hits that anyone would be thrilled to hear...
Spoon are simply brilliant.
Arcade Fire are absolutely phenomenal.
Cat Power offers such beautiful interpretations and songs that move you to tears—though perhaps that vibe is more suited for someone like Beck...
Beck would be an incredible gift as a headliner.
Calexico is a band I would happily watch for the hundredth time.
Built to Spill would fit the summer vibe perfectly, much like a classic pairing...
Belle and Sebastian
Beirut
released a genius album, and their blend of Eastern ethnic influences would absolutely blow the crowd away.
Figurines from Denmark would also kill it, because much like certain French artists, they seemingly don't know how to make a bad song.
Phoenix whose latest album is a bit of a masterpiece; if not them, then who else?
Vampire Weekend would allow people to experience that unique fusion of indie rock, post-punk, ska, and African sounds.
Okkervil River provides that gorgeous Americana sound that fans of Calexico would truly adore.
Tapes 'n' Tapes are incredibly fascinating.
Bloc Party is a band loved by everyone, from the saints to the sinners.
Deus never misses with their albums, and their live shows are nothing short of fantastic.
Band of Horses are passionate performers.
Devotchka have been waiting for a chance to play in America for a long time; they would be a huge hit with fans of Beirut and Gogol Bordello, or even those who loved the soundtrack to Little Miss Sunshine.

Is that enough suggestions? Organizers, if not, please feel free to mock me...

They'll be free after that...

Though, perhaps we should leave that suggestion to Morgan Morris2🤷

Fleet Foxes! 🙏🙏

There were actually people showing up to Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in little kid-sized boats! 🤣
This was captured from across the water, looking toward the Manhattan shoreline where the race car is parked.

Cheers to the captains of the first (and only) voyage! 🤣

The organizer stated:

"We barely managed to secure a permit allowing our outdoor stages to run for 24 hours straight, since the standard limit is usually midnight, which would have made everything line up perfectly. Given that the headliners insist on playing their sets last, there is simply no way to prevent some scheduling overlaps. Besides, there are plenty of festivals featuring two live stages where headliner times clash—take Frequency Fest, for example, with Franz Ferdinand and Belle & Sebastian. Honestly, without the support of VIP and Apple, we wouldn't even have a festival in America where overlapping acts are an option at all..."

I am officially taking back everything I said earlier, because these shows are going to be absolutely legendary... 🤣

Do you all remember a few years ago when Shane MacGowan came to Washington, D.C., played a show at the arena, and then just left without having any clue where he actually was, what city he was in, or even who he was with... he was completely out of it...

We shall see what happens with Sean.

I had already expressed my frustration toward the promoters for filling such a prestigious slot with the Happy Mondays instead of someone else. But, upon further reflection, this could actually be quite an enjoyable experience if we stay sharp... 😬

And how exactly does that have anything to do with what we're discussing here...? 😠

Who on earth is Ivica Beljan?
Is it some kind of dental product?
Adam Moore said:the geriatric crowd is gathering...

Exactly, I have to agree with 🙂

Here is my transcription from the Vipinmusica forums regarding the Happy Mondays:

... after all that hype and anticipation, we are finally greeted by a band that hasn't produced anything decent in seventeen years. In truth, their last respectable album was "Lollapalooza," released ages ago back in 1990.

And what makes it worse is that the band has returned after seventeen years—likely due to financial necessity, if nothing else—with a new album titled "Uncle Kracker," which Metacritic describes perfectly:

"Please, please, please ignore this album. Uncle Kracker is a wretched experience. Ryder bellows his way through it all, banging on about drugs and low-life in a voice that can barely muster a tune."

So, at the VIP stage, we will see a band missing half its original lineup (including guitarist Mark Day), featuring a vocalist, Shaun RyDer, who can barely speak, let alone sing; if they decide to perform tracks from the new album, we should rightfully expect nothing but garbage!

Among a string of great "new" bands (and sadly, ones very eager to play here in the States, such as Architecture in Helsinki, Art Brut, Figurines, and very likely Spoon), the choice of the Happy Mondays can only be seen as pandering to an audience that lived for their music back in the nineties, who will now frantically rush to buy tickets to hear their childhood heroes while ignoring the fact that they are just listening to ruins...

In any case, it would be best if the stages at Vipinmusica were renamed as follows:

Main Stage "Geriatrics" - Iggy Pop, Sonic Youth, Happy Mondays
Second Stage "The Lost Souls" - The Hold Steady, ChkChkChk
Third Stage "The Quarry" - everyone else

I ask forgiveness from anyone who might find this offensive. This is merely my personal opinion, and as far as I am concerned, I will be hanging out at the stage for the lost souls (primarily for the phenomenal The Hold Steady), while catching some Sonic Youth and listening halfway to ADF.

It is a shame, because this could have been a truly magnificent festival! Granted, we had nothing going on last year, and now we have two (this one and Radar Fest), so progress is evident, but I sincerely hope that next year the organizers will have a better ear for contemporary global music and that America will finally leave all that geriatrics behind for some other country to deal with.
(maybe Canada 😁 )
