Sense of humor in Psychology ·
boldnomad45 said:What nonsense. Most stand-up comedians—and I mean most—are drinking heavily and battling depression and anxiety.
Humor is a defense mechanism. It's self-healing. It's a way to find connection and validation from others through laughter.

Precisely. Without a sense of humor, navigating this existence becomes an almost impossible task.

If it is indeed something that can be learned, where and by what means does one go about mastering it?

I don't believe it's something you can teach. In my view, you won't suddenly become witty out of thin air if you don't possess the innate spark; it's a raw talent. You might, however, develop the ability to recognize humor when someone else—someone actually gifted—produces it, provided you have the intuition to detect it.
In those moments, you can at least laugh, which serves as a profound relief in this life.

Tell me, if you don't mind sharing something a bit personal, what is it that actually makes you laugh?
Actually, I ran this exact same cable at a buddy's place and everything worked perfectly fine. Thanks for the tip; I'll try dropping the resolution and see if that stabilizes things. I'll let you know how it goes.
I’m working with a Dell Inspiron running Windows 7 Ultimate. My setup involves a Samsung LED TV—specifically the 32550DW model—connected via an HDMI cable. Everything was functioning perfectly until it just decided to quit on me out of nowhere. Now, when I hook the laptop up to the TV via HDMI, the laptop loses both video and audio entirely, while the television simply displays a "No Signal" message. I've already tested this across HDMI ports 1, 2, and 3 without any luck.

Since everything works flawlessly when I test it on my buddy's setup, it feels like the issue is localized to my TV.
How am I supposed to get this thing up and running? Apparently, when my buddy took his setup to a repair shop, everything worked perfectly fine on his TV, yet here I am dealing with nothing but dead air.

I suppose so.
But what about the countries that actually manufacture these wars in the first place?
We really ought to be grateful for how much we've had to struggle here.

Carol Turner3 said:I was wondering if anyone here has ever been through this, lived it, and maybe even found a way out... or if I could just vent for a second to get it off my chest 🙄

I’ll try to keep this brief and just give you the highlights of what's going on with me...

I honestly feel like I'm trapped, like everyone is actively working to keep me from actually "spreading my wings" or moving forward...

And obviously—if my description makes any sense at all—that feeling is totally understandable because my life feels incredibly restricted from every single angle, whether it's money, social life, mental health, or whatever else hits me...

I don't really remember being someone who knew much about anything, but looking back over the last few years (I'm 26 now), after dealing with some struggles at college and a few other things, I just have no clue what I want anymore—honestly, I never really had a clear vision of who I wanted to be anyway...

I’m just not happy—not that I ever really was, if I'm being real—and I can't see anything that might actually bring me joy. The bigger issue is that with so much crap going on, even if I did stumble upon something that made me smile, I probably wouldn't even notice because I'm too preoccupied with everything weighing me down...

My personality, how I was raised, people not understanding me, and the total lack of support from those closest to me for basically anything... it's all pushed me up against a wall where I'm starting to fear absolutely everything. I tried looking for work for a while, but I guess that misery was pretty obvious during interviews, so I ended up giving up on that too. To even apply for jobs now, I'd need to hit the books, relearn stuff, and polish up my skills, but I just don't have the drive for any of it...

I truly believe that if I had landed a job even a year ago, it might have pulled me out of this funk—or maybe it would have sped up my slide into this current state—but I think it would have given me an appetite for life again, a desire to actually build something for myself...

But unfortunately, that didn't happen, and I'm just rotting away more and more every day, terrified of even trying, of sending out applications—since I've never been the assertive type—and I have zero self-confidence. I'm scared I won't be any good at a job, which is pretty obvious, and why would anyone give me a shot when I've never received a shred of support, even from my own family...

Even though I'm scared, I can say there's only one thing I'm becoming less afraid of, and it comes from asking myself: Why am I even bothering to struggle in this world?

I understand completely, and I am so incredibly sorry.😢
Please, just don't take your own life. I'm not a religious person, but I feel like we just have to endure this until the end.
All in all, I think you're a good person, just overly sensitive.
Any advice? For instance, having a pet, maybe a small dog or a cat, can help. And gardening—planting flowers or vegetables—can provide a sense of purpose.
I know how cliché and pathetic those suggestions sound, but I deal with similar struggles myself, and these little things are what keep me from total despair.
Ban corner and FBI in Forum Help! ·
Everything you’re claiming is complete fiction, and frankly, you don't have a shred of evidence to back it up.
I tried seeking protection on the FBI boards and over in the ban corner, but apparently, that wasn't enough for one particular moderator. I was never even given a heads-up about my partial ban from the FBI, nor was I notified regarding the situation in the ban corner—I just found myself silenced without warning.
Just end this thread.
It’s honestly embarrassing that you’ve played a part in this, though I suspect you're simply acting as cover for that problematic individual.

Casey Bennett said:You have a partial ban from the FBI, which is why that specific subforum isn't visible to you. It was issued back on January 27, 2017, and you really should have been notified at the time.

Thanks for the clarification. Apparently, I’ve been partially banned from the ban corner as well—all without a single word of notice. At this point, I think it’s time to escalate this to a supermoderator. I've been dealing with a particular moderator who has spent years stalking and harassing me; when I finally stood my ground and filed formal complaints with both the FBI and the ban corner, they simply scrubbed me from the board instead of addressing the issue.

Could someone please clarify if cover PDFs have been phased out entirely? I’ve noticed they seem to have vanished from my own PDF list.
Thanks!

At the end of the day, I couldn't care less what you think. You aren't anyone special, let alone someone with actual influence.
I reached out to Nice.

Could you possibly take a look at the thread regarding the political commentator? It’s been completely overrun by trolls. I’ll say it again: the warning was issued early on, yet everyone ignored it.
As far as the moderators are concerned, only the more civil users like Orion and myself have been banned.
Where is the moderator?

William Bennett53 said:Here is a suggestion that might actually help prevent your appeals from being dismissed: instead of just attacking the moderators with a bunch of empty rhetoric, try drafting a polite appeal. Use actual arguments and provide documentation—like links to specific instances—to point out where the moderation was inconsistent or flawed.

I have a strong urge to just lock this pointless thread right now, but I’m holding back in the hope that you might actually apply what I’ve suggested in your next post.

Fair enough, thanks. I felt I had argued my case thoroughly, yet Pringles wiped the thread and slapped me with an infraction regardless. My mistake, though—it said 35 points. It wasn't just hollow complaints; people on various forums and even Pringles have voiced similar concerns, so it can't be some collective hallucination. And I'm not attacking the mods. In fact, the moderator handling the thread about that local politician was actually doing a decent job. It’s just a shame nobody listened to his warning; then someone else stepped in, and the whole thing just went completely off the rails.

Is anyone still around from the old board of directors? Not that I’m looking for a handout—they wouldn't help anyway—but I'm wondering if any of them are still lurking here as members.
NICE!!!!! HELP !!!! in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Nice, I’m asking you to please step in here.

The moment I stepped out of the bar, I went straight to the forums—just like you suggested—to air my grievances regarding how KCLK and Pringles are handling things.

Now, my thread has vanished from the site entirely; I can't find it anywhere, yet somehow I've been slapped with an infraction by Pringles, and frankly, the point deduction involved is quite significant.

I am certainly not alone in this; plenty of other people are voicing their frustrations with KCLK and Pringles because their management is simply inadequate.

Please, do something about this.

Benjamin Taylor6 said:You really don't have many options other than transferring the deed to your mother and setting up some sort of legal arrangement with her.
For instance, a life estate or a similar support agreement. Or, your mother could draft a will right now stating the property goes to you, with your sister signing on as a co-signatory to unconditionally waive any claim to her portion of the estate.

Mom isn't legally competent anymore 😢 which means everything has to go through your sister, assuming she steps up to become her legal guardian.

Look, Benjamin Taylor6, I have to find a way to protect my own property. What kind of will are we talking about where Mom leaves me an apartment that already belongs to me? It doesn't make sense.

The whole point here is to shield my only piece of real estate from being seized by creditors.

Honestly, my head is spinning. I've been digging through these legalities from French Polynesia.

1. I can't just gift anything to my sister because of tax implications if we aren't direct descendants, and frankly, we don't have the cash lying around right now.
2. Everyone knows my mom gave me money back in 2003, but there isn't a single shred of a written contract to prove it.
3. I refuse to let the recipient be stuck footing any current or future expenses.

Is there some kind of workaround?!? Does anyone have any ideas?

Look, I’m not a cheapskate, but I refuse to hand over an apartment to a thief—it's not just about principle, it's about survival; you can't stay afloat when the bottom falls out. Otherwise, they can just pack up all their dishes and nonsense into three MP3 players and go. Life is far too short and fragile for this; I’d much rather be sleeping under a tree in French Polynesia.

Benjamin Taylor6 said:The notary is absolutely required to report any change in ownership to the IRS.

In my opinion, the smartest move would be to gift the apartment to your kids while you retain a life estate.
That way, nobody can touch the property.
If the debt my mom owes me actually stems from when I was originally buying the apartment—meaning long before all these recent liabilities popped up—don't you think gifting it back to her would be a perfectly legitimate way to settle that original debt? Since there isn't any other debt to speak of.

What kind of debt are we even talking about here? Is it just unpaid HOA fees or something?

Forgive me if I'm being blunt, but the debt I owe my mother actually traces back to 2003, when she provided the capital for my initial down payment. Any subsequent debts—the ones incurred after 2009—are entirely separate matters.
Wage garnishments and collections in Law ·
Yeah, thanks, I gathered from that article that she’ll have to report it to the IRS, though obviously not to the county recorder's office since you have to pay the $83 just to get anything officially filed, or at least that was my understanding.

Sure, the principal amount itself is mostly just a fairy tale, but then they tack on the interest, the astronomical legal fees from the property manager’s attorney, the notary costs, the court fees... the whole works.

I don't have any kids; my mother is actually my only immediate family left, but unfortunately, her health situation is... complicated. It’s like she’s caught in some sort of prolonged state of limbo, a kind of living expiration. 😢

It’s all just a complete nightmare...

I’m not actually a debtor in the eyes of my bank, aside from that small overdraft cushion they yanked away from me once those HOA types started freezing me out.

If you walk into a situation knowing you can't afford the payments, common sense dictates you shouldn't take the loan in the first place. Besides, a bank isn't going to cut you a check if you don't have steady, reliable cash flow coming in. Then there's the reality that life happens—disasters strike when you least expect them. That’s why your primary real estate should always be shielded. Honestly, banks play such a shell game with interest rates that it takes forever just to touch the principal; their obsession with squeezing every cent of profit out of you really doesn't move the needle for me.

As for the HOA fees, they're nothing short of a legalized shakedown. It's infuriating to deal with a damp ceiling because they used cheap, bottom-tier materials on the roof, all while I'm being prevented from managing my own property the way I see fit—specifically, by being unable to sell it. It feels like a direct violation of my constitutional property rights.

What on earth does the mandatory relationship law have to do with the gift I gave my mother? They are systematically violating that law and ignoring the relevant contracts, yet the courts seem content to rubber-stamp their actions without a second thought.

If the debt I owe my mom was established back when I was buying this apartment—well before any of these current liabilities surfaced—how can you argue that gifting her those funds isn't a perfectly legitimate way to settle that original debt? There simply isn't any other way to do it.

Much appreciated. For what it’s worth, I’m trying to avoid putting the apartment under my mother’s Social Security number; I have zero interest in seeing her assets targeted by creditors. I’m operating under the assumption that a notary isn't legally obligated to report ownership changes directly to the ZK department, right?

At any rate, it would be a godsend if they could just issue an injunction against seizing her only property.
