George Sanchez59 said:I don't know the first thing about water heaters, but I'll tell you why these kinds of random threads even exist.

Give me a hint?
Look... you could've just sent him a DM with your thoughts instead.
Calling people out like that over some paperwork isn't exactly going to help your future business relationships, is it?

Maybe. Honestly, though, we’re just not on the same wavelength, so I figured someone else might be able to make it click better.
Look, I'm just putting this out there to apologize publicly to the person involved. It’s not about starting drama or calling anyone out for no reason—I just felt like I owed everyone an explanation.

You're stressing over nothing. Why bother? You'll just end up getting yelled at by the boss later anyway.
Man, someone needs to shut down this server admin before he completely trashes this forum. How much more of this can we take? 😢

I mean, I read through all these posts to see what people are saying... but honestly? It feels like a total waste of time. Why even bother?
Don't worry, I'm not getting worked up, just a little confused. 😵
Oh yeah, I also wanted to weigh in on that iPhone and the new security updates rolling out here in the States. 👍
I bet you’ve got a take on them.

I'll pop in to read, but... nah, I don't really have an opinion. Never even seen them in person, let alone in a photo. 😁 )
It’s not just about the clutter or having ten different threads covering the same ground... it's the principle. Why even start a new topic (check post br.14) promising to break down the differences between standard and condensing water heaters, only to skip the actual explanation? Instead, you just dump old posts from some other heating thread here and pretend they're new?
Then you go and open yet another one specifically for condensing units, using phrases like "our long-standing experience" or "what we do"... basically just copy-pasting a corporate website.
The moderator is supposed to be keeping things organized, not making them more chaotic, right?
I've got my doubts.
I know. 😉
I honestly don't get some of these moves... I mean, really? I tried to find some kind of logical explanation for it, but maybe there just isn't one.
Besides that, there’s already a thread about condensing water heaters going—last update was back in July of last year.
On the housing and AFL-CIO subforums, there are tons of threads about water heaters—everything from specific brands to general stuff like "Gas Water Heaters: Tips, Service, and Troubleshooting."
Since Robert Martin23 opened this new thread a couple of days ago titled "conventional gas water heater" to supposedly explain the difference between those and condensing models, but instead just copy-pasted old posts from other threads (some dating back over a month to early January), I have to wonder: what’s the point?
He kicked the thread off with this post:
I'm no professional gas technician, but I'll try to answer the questions that keep popping up all over the forum. Just a heads-up, I might get some things wrong, as I know there are plenty of true experts here. Hopefully, this attempt will encourage them to jump in and correct me so we can clear everything up in plain English. It's not just about the differences, but also about the pros of these units, which people always ask about when they're trying to get the best bang for their buck.

🕺
Now there's yet another thread called "condensing gas water heater" featuring a massive post (no. 1) that starts like this:
Our long-standing experience working with brands like Carrier, Lennox, and General Electric shows that when you're picking out a condensing unit, getting the right info on this tech is huge. We'll try to share our expertise and tackle the big questions you'll run into if you go with condensing technology.

...and the whole thing was ripped straight from this website.
Does anyone know why someone would open unnecessary threads and just move old posts into them (posts that weren't even off-topic before)? And then just copy text and images from a company's site and act like they wrote it themselves?
It doesn't feel right, and it's definitely not helpful. Talking about heaters, asking for advice, or comparing models makes way more sense in a general water heater thread, rather than a dedicated thread for one specific type that'll probably only be discussed once.
Plus, copying text from a manufacturer's site and passing it off as your own without any credit or links isn't cool.
There's no link, so maybe it's not an ad, but it's still shady since the person posting isn't the actual author. Unless they work for that company, which makes it even worse.
If these threads stay up because they might actually be useful, they should probably just move to the housing section, since they don't really have anything to do with the AFL-CIO.

Maybe we shouldn't just add them—what if we just moved everything into schools? You know, the grocery stores, the bars, sports, music lessons, language classes, soccer, the bank, the newsstand, the post office... just put it all right there so we can get stuff done on the way. 🙂
True, they probably should expand the current ones, but having it all in one spot would be so much easier. 😁

Still waiting. Since when did religion become a mandatory school subject? How long am I supposed to sit here?
I mean, people used to just head to church if they wanted to, no big deal.
But you know, at actual churches or chapels.
Can't religious parents just pass those values down to their kids themselves? Teach them about love and tolerance at home? Why do they need formal classes for that?
Religion classes in school - Megathread in Students & Teens ·
Why hasn't that happened yet, though, especially since we see these high percentages popping up all the time? If 80% of people are supposedly learning love and tolerance, why does it feel like there's so little of it around?
So you think that 20% minority is responsible for everything going wrong? Yeah, right. 🙄
That other 80% must have just lost their way... there's zero love or tolerance to be found, just theft and whatever else.
Edit:
Down at the local Trader Joe's parking lot, I constantly see cars parked in the handicap spots with a rosary hanging from the rearview mirror, but zero disability permits. And those parking spaces are basically non-existent.
Real beautiful love and tolerance right there... clearly they learned it well.

Jacob Lewis5 said:We need to be fighting against our basest instincts and raw passions, not against being different.

Minorities and outsiders have always been easy targets in every culture and every corner of the map throughout history.
I’ve never heard of a conflict between religious and non-religious kids—sure, it could happen, but the root cause wouldn't be the religion itself. People, seriously, just learn to live with differences, and teach your kids to embrace them.

Since when did we start comparing religion class to other subjects? You claim that kids learn absolutely nothing in religion class—but I'm pointing out that they don't learn anything in other classes either...
And then, after all that, you heroically pivot to attacking me, calling me arrogant, bringing up my "problems" you think you see, and dragging art and science into it. In the spirit of tolerance, liberalism, and progress, you're just insulting me to avoid a debate you're clearly losing.

Solid message. 😁

brisknomad13 said:We don't even need to talk about the law.
We could just look at how many kids actually sign up for religion classes as an elective.

Calling it "social pressure" feels pretty out of touch, especially nowadays.

And talking about being "forced" into religious sacraments? Please. Today's youth are actually pretty conservative. They're basically the ones preaching faith back to their parents and older generations.

The latest polls show exactly that. Even across Europe, people are leaning back toward traditional values.

🤣
Yeah, sure, if it’s inconvenient, then suddenly we don't have to.

@MajaMama
...it happens all the time on these threads.
Maybe a believer could actually understand this from their own perspective.
But when it doesn't work out, it just doesn't work out... stubbornly, blindly... there's just no sense of altruism or loving your neighbor here (at least, not from what I can see).

@wanderingbadger44
Alright, alright...
You've hit the nail on the head... why bother with the law if they won't follow it themselves?🙂
And why defend others who clearly feel differently and should be allowed to make their own choices based on their own values?
Where does that urge even come from?

Personally, I'm way more bothered when kids can't even write a basic essay in English class or struggle with simple math after years of studying the core subjects.
Not to mention some teachers who show up to their certification exams and struggle to write a decent essay themselves...😁
And then they're out here logging notes in the digital gradebook...🤣

Look, it's legal and it's fine. As long as the majority wants it this way, it stays.

Power to the people, right?
Btw, when was that national referendum held? Feels like a lot of people missed it because they didn't even know it was happening.

Not really, though. 😁

George Sanchez59 said:Good grief, 🙂what was I thinking?!

You're dissecting every single thing I say, just dragging this out forever.
I honestly don't have the energy or the patience to go back and forth with you here—or anywhere else, for that matter...
🤦

You're being a little too intense... all I wanted to say was that you totally misread my intention.
If I actually meant to hurt you, I’d be acting way differently, but... I really didn't.

Can someone get the mods to rename this thread to:
"Rachel Jones8's corner for comments she isn't allowed to make elsewhere," similar to those other threads, etc. across the whole forum? That way she can vent whenever people tell her she's being too much on the main boards.
🙏

🙄 Everyone on that thread was actually super nice and helpful...
I started this one because another user suggested it, so I listened... but somehow I ended up getting red-carded for it. (And no, she wasn't the one who suggested it)
Honestly, you should probably just lock this thread already since you're overreacting.
Bringing stuff from other threads to attack me personally just isn't cool.
Bottom line:
Look, I'm apologizing if my words came off wrong. I wasn't trying to insult you or your intelligence; I was thinking about something... else entirely, nothing malicious at all.

George Sanchez59 said:I might be a little vague with my answer since I'm just typing this up on my phone.
So you aren't even looking for an answer, yet you still insisted on making this post public for all to see? You could've just sent a private message, couldn't you?

Man, that advertising is everywhere. Honestly? It’s actually working for me.
And you missed the mark again. Seriously?
I'm posting here because you told me I had to. Is that what you wanted?
Consider this an official moderator warning, and nothing less. Just stick to commenting on the stock market, okay? Not here.
You went ahead and posted something about me publicly—misinterpreting things, obviously. I just wanted to clear the air and explain that I didn't actually mean what you thought I meant.
It’d be pretty fair if I could actually reply directly in the thread, you know? Otherwise, it just looks like your word is final simply because you’re a moderator. It shouldn't matter what your role is—I should still be able to weigh in.
It didn't even cross my mind to PM you. And even if it had... I probably wouldn't have posted here anyway, but not for the reason you think. Honestly, getting attention on a forum like this doesn't do anyone any favors, right?
George Sanchez59 said:You posted that over in the other thread too, then deleted it once you realized you were basically calling out the mods. 😬

Wrong conclusion again, which pretty much ruins your whole argument about what I was thinking and why I did it.
I know you don't believe me, but that's just how it is.
Couldn't think of anything else, so I just jumped straight in here. Since I had both threads open at once, I accidentally used up my quota in the wrong spot. Thought I was posting in the right place, but realized after hitting submit that I was in the wrong thread. Fixed it immediately, though.
Look, I'm not even trying to pick a fight with the mods. I'm just responding to your post because you totally misread me. I was just trying to clear up what I actually meant, you know?

I’m jumping in to back you up on this one too (since it looks like Dustin didn't get the memo over in that other thread).

I honestly have no clue what you mean. I haven't even posted anything since her last comment on that thread.
Can you please stop policing our PDF thread and lecturing everyone on where and how to post? If you see something that doesn't belong, just hit the report button. We’ll handle the rest from there. Moving their posts around just leaves yours hanging there awkwardly, right?

I wasn't lecturing anyone.
Rachel Jones8 said:Anyway, we kind of drifted off into talking about Felix itself (where to buy one, availability, etc.) which maybe we should move over to his specific thread.

It’s like when you’re on a thread about a specific monster in a game and people start comparing everything—someone eventually suggests just heading over to the comparison thread instead. That’s basically what happened here; we all sort of veered into talking about the phone itself, so I figured it was a good call to suggest moving the chat to the dedicated thread for that device.
I’ve seen similar suggestions all over different subforums and threads, and honestly, I’ve never seen it be an issue. It actually makes the forum better. If someone wants to know the specifics of a certain phone, they can find it in its own thread rather than digging through a comparison post they aren't even interested in.
I have zero interest in reporting posts like that; there’s really no reason to. If someone tells me, "Hey, there's a thread for that, you should probably post there," I actually appreciate being pointed in the right direction.
George Sanchez59 said:Just a heads up—if you think you can abuse the report button and spam people for no reason, that's something the mods handle via the admin panel.😁

Nah, I’m not planning on abusing anything. Honestly, it’s a bummer you’d even think that or assume I have bad intentions.

But since you brought up the report button, how does that process actually work? If I do report a post, am I supposed to get some kind of notification or follow-up?

Since I'm not allowed to talk about this in the main thread, I'll just leave my thoughts here regarding post by moderator 84737
.
84737 said:The first part of your post is basically... well, you're trying to be clever by "assessing intelligence."
I have no interest in understanding that, nor do I intend to keep reading stuff written like that.

I just want to say that wasn't how it came across at all. It wasn't an intelligence test or any kind of judgment (I don't doubt yours, and I'm certainly not in a position to judge it)... it was meant to be a plea for some understanding—just asking for patience regarding my indecision and how long it's taking me to pull the trigger on a purchase.

This is a moderator warning, so you can only discuss it in the feedback section, not here.
Also, consider this a heads-up: if there are more "long" or "empty" posts like this, they will be deleted or result in strikes.

Regarding that, I don't think I deserved a warning. Why would I even write a post explaining when I'm actually buying a phone and why I'm asking about a few different models if you hadn't asked me first:
84737 said:How many years away from getting that Felix are we talking?
At this point, there's hardly a phone left that you haven't planned to buy. 😛

That question was totally unnecessary for the thread; you should've focused on me instead of comparing phones. (I only asked about a handful of devices, which seems pretty normal when you're weighing options.)
My post was prompted by your question, so it's not fair to call it useless, long, or empty.
And I wouldn't have even made my second post if you hadn't chimed in instead of actually discussing the specs of those two phones.

Once again, I had zero intention of insulting you or your intelligence, and I'm sorry if my wording felt offensive.
I apologize for the way I wrote it and for being overly wordy in my replies.
And for this comment too.
I'm not looking for a reply or a debate; I just wanted to clear the air because you completely misread my first post. There was no malice involved.

Question for the "America and tourism" moderators in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Why can't I just get a straight answer to a simple question?
Besides, what you wrote (and I’m telling you again) isn't true. It feels pretty malicious to keep repeating the same inaccuracies over and over.
Why do we have to keep going in circles just because the facts are being twisted?
I made a post on that thread about Booking.com and it got nuked, with the excuse that I can't post because I'm not a host. Since then, I haven't really touched that thread... except recently by accident because I totally forgot about the rule. (That one was about a Booking cancellation and an email exchange between a guest and a host)
All my other posts—about sales tax, seasonal rates, etc.—were all in the right threads and they're still there.
The posts from the last few pages are all about guest reviews, which has nothing to do with the thread title, just like how sales tax has nothing to do with it... honestly, most of the posts on this thread aren't even on topic anymore; it looks more like a group chat than a discussion about where to list properties.
Since these debates actually get interesting, I’d love to jump in and contribute to the conversation (even if I'm not a host), rather than having to dump my comments in the Offtopic section. When I do that, nobody ever replies to me... because when I show up on the main thread, it's like I fell from Mars. People act surprised that I keep posting here when I'm actually just responding to things said in the advertising thread.
It’s pretty impractical and makes zero sense. Especially since everyone else seems allowed to talk, and I don't see why I'm the only one being blocked. Plus, what you said isn't right—I wasn't interrogating anyone (I was just asking because I was curious), nor was I posting stuff meant to annoy people or acting with bad intentions. My posts were perfectly polite and followed the rules; maybe they were just too long or boring for some people.
So, I'm asking to be treated just like any other user. If the rules on the first page don't explicitly ban non-hosts from posting, then let me post without having my comments deleted or moved and getting flagged. If I actually break a rule, treat me the same way you'd treat anyone else. No one gets warnings or flags for going off-topic on this thread, not even for insulting or slandering, even if maybe only one out of ten posts actually fits the topic. If that's the case, it should be fair for everyone to get the same treatment.

I actually had a helpful, solid suggestion for a new thread, but since that got wiped too (it was in the Offtopic section), can I post it here or send you a DM before it disappears again?
Since I can't start a new thread with the same title—"where to advertise"—to actually focus on advertising (instead of spinning this into a fourth volume of the same thread where everyone just chats and goes off-topic), I had an idea for a related topic that might be super useful for hosts.

Anyway... 🙂 I really hope we can stop going in circles. I'd just like to participate in the forum like everyone else without being singled out just because I don't rent out property. At least not while it's allowed for everyone else and isn't listed in the rules.
Thanks. 🙂
Question for the "America and tourism" moderators in Feedback & Suggestions ·
To make things simple
- can I actually jump into the "Where to Advertise Private Rentals (Part III) [READ 1st POST]" thread now? Since the first post doesn't say anything about banning people who aren't renting out property, and since other non-owners are posting there without getting any warnings or having their stuff moved.
It’s pretty obvious that if such a rule ever existed, it’s gone now.
