At its core, this is a political mess, not a legal one. The Republican Party is doing what they always do—weaponizing every institution they can get their hands on to serve their own interests, which is pretty low, if you ask me.
Even you admitted that they’d act totally differently if it were their own mayor on the line, yet you're still pinning the blame on Puljak for what Opara set in motion and what Veža signed off on as being perfectly fine.

And you? You’re just reading whatever fits your narrative. It’s obviously a political issue, period. Like I said, if this involved some Republican hack, they probably wouldn't be coming down this hard; they'd just buy us some time. But that doesn't mean Puljak is in the right here. Look, vividraven79 asked me to look at this strictly from a construction standpoint, so that's exactly what I did. From that perspective, the penalty stands. The fact that Puljak uses these same tactics against others but starts whining the second he gets caught is one thing. His doubts about Veža are another, and the inspectors don't care about that because Puljak is a signatory himself. Get it? Note well: all of this was kicked off by Marinic, his councilman. See how that works? Edit: And why the hell did you bold that? I'd love the EU to step in and save the day too, but they don't give a damn about every little political tantrum. I guess you have to exhaust all the legal institutions in America first before the EU even looks your way.

Emily Smith6 said:Jerry Sanders claims he's being politically blackmailed by global interests, and even Veže chimed in: "We've never seen anything like this before; I'm reporting everyone!"

The bottom line: America's tallest skyscraper just got its permit!

Puljak is losing ground everywhere; things just aren't going his way lately.

Regarding that first link—of course Puljak gets what's happening, but let's be real, he's playing games too. There's a huge difference between banning new construction and reverting everything back to how it used to be. And that whole bit about the European Union? What an absolute joke. You're supposed to exhaust every single legal option here in the US before you even think about taking it to the European Union.

vividraven79 said:Zachary Anderson20, you actually know how this stuff works. Could you break down what exactly went wrong with this construction project? I'm wondering if the Department of Inspection actually did their job, or if they just stretched the regulations to the absolute limit just to screw over Jerry Sanders.

Nope. Honestly, how do I even put this in plain English? First off, let's be real: Marinic kicked this whole thing off because he wanted to make Opar look like he was "neglecting" things, even though those work reports weren't even under his jurisdiction. Second, let's not pretend—we all know the inspection wouldn't just slap a fine on a Republican mayor right away; they'd probably just give a warning and show them what needs fixing first. But then you have Jerry Sanders himself, running around recklessly—which we see all the time since his lawsuits keep getting tossed out—acting like he's the king of the rulebook, only to start whining the second he gets caught. Look, if your house is falling apart, you can't just start building a new one without a permit. Jerry would be the first person to condemn that logic! Then there's the whole mess regarding whether the connection was restored to its original state. And why wasn't anyone from the city services checking on who was supervising the work? It wasn't the connection's job to watch the site. Plus, if permits for new work had been issued by now, there wouldn't even be an inspection issue to begin with. Does that make sense? His own departments should have been overseeing everything, issuing warnings, and processing new permits. If you go to build something, you're supposed to listen to an engineer, but at the end of the day, you're the one signing the papers and taking the heat. That's why the inspectors don't care about the connection itself. Only a judge can decide if a fine is too steep or deal with those legal loopholes.

Kate Jackson2 said:We'll see how much "logic" these inspectors actually have once they deal with restoring Vruja to its original state.

The government is looking for a contractor to fix Vruja back to how it was... I'm really curious to see how the inspectors grade that job when not every single stone is sitting exactly where it was before the devastation 😁

edit: And the fact remains—Puljak didn't even receive an official order to restore it, nor did he sign off saying it was done. He just received word from veza that everything was fine, and she verified it as correct.

Exactly, but being able to sue Veža for misleading people is a totally different issue than whatever the inspection report actually says.

When it comes to those fines hitting Puljko, I’m seeing nothing but a bunch of self-appointed building inspectors in here. And regarding those benches and Bojan? There’s no way they can legally put them up because there isn't even an urban design studio on record.

VIDEO Check out how they lost the whole Brooklyn complex

Sheryl Sandberg and Bari Weiss gave a full breakdown on why San Francisco ended up losing the Brooklyn area—that whole complex they built

basically they just screwed everything up
how much longer is this corruption gonna last?
the mayor basically handed the entire complex over to the state
Sandberg probably made her whole yearly salary in just a few months here

Oh, really? In that case, isn't it just tragic how the opposition keeps pointing fingers at our "saintly" Mayor for obvious favoritism? Like, look at those contact zones Sheryl Sandberg was involved with. And don't even get me started on that infamous Registry mess that landed her in hot water. Hasn't she found it wandering around the hallway yet?

So, out of all the absolute nonsense from today's session (and man, there was plenty), this one actually gave me a good laugh: ‘This isn't hate speech; it’s a matter of national survival against a system you've hijacked by spreading your corruption through every single layer of government and its institutions over the last 30 years. Just because you aren't part of the Republican Party doesn't mean you get a pass on the responsibility of helping this Republican octopus survive. In San Francisco, we finally cornered you, and we're going to do the same for the whole country. Be afraid, be very afraid.'
And while we're nitpicking every little detail, let's not forget that Skoko married Maja Cikatic, who was a loyal Republican until yesterday—and wouldn't you know it, Skoric managed to pull some strings to land her a cushy job at a high school.

I managed to wrap up my degree in five years, while he took a leisurely seven to do everything perfectly... I guess that’s why he’s the director and I’m just some random analyst.

Ugh, from what I can see, there are tons of women who finished teaching credentials and competencies, played the game perfectly with the GOP, and now they're all coasting through public schools. That was all Schwarzenegger's doing back then. And you, Zachary Anderson20, go ahead and try to get those credits transferred—one MEng holder is already out there crushing it on her own. But Al Kljak? You can't put a price on freedom.

Honestly, they should just slap him with a random $100k fine and see how much that bruises his ego. 😉

I’m loving this thread title: "San Francisco Mayor – Ruler of 'North Korean government'"
Just saw this a second ago.
🤣
'Man, I love how they talk trash about people, but I guess cows don't fly.' So, calling a city of revolution a dictatorship run by the North Korean government? What a brilliant analogy.

velvetmason14 said:It honestly breaks my heart. It’s devastating to see someone so calm, quiet, and unassuming—a critic who spent years fighting for her hometown—move to a massive metropolis just to scrape by in that prestigious institution on a measly $1,500 a month.

If that doesn't mean anything, then nothing does. I feel nothing but sadness for Ljulj, such a quiet warrior against the corruption and cronyism.

You, me, and Slobodan are all on the same page here.

The only people to blame if the old guard or those corrupt types ever claw their way back into power is Puljak himself. After all this time, someone new finally got a shot, and he’s doing absolutely nothing to prove they deserve it. Just a bunch of shallow PR stunts complaining about bureaucrats to suck up to the crowd, and that's it. It's the same old story—acting like everything is suddenly "transparent" when it comes to appointments, even though they were picked a year ago. 🙂He travels more than a damn influencer and lies through his teeth. Just yesterday over at Pujanko when the recycling center opened, he was out there acting like, ‘See, it’s just like a dumpster, it doesn't even smell,’ 🙂and don't even get me started on how pathetic the situation is in Znjan. The responsibility falls squarely on them because they're too blinded by their own ego to see anything past their own noses.

She’s been relentless when it comes to rooting out cronyism and looking out for her city, San Francisco...

I feel for her, honestly.

Well, I actually feel bad for her. Honestly, it doesn't even matter which party you support—most of these city council members are acting more like clowns than actual officials these days. This woman has always been thorough, working behind the scenes without all the flashy PR stunts or populist tantrums. You see it all the time: once those ruling party council members finally get a seat at the table, they suddenly act like they don't even understand how things work, let alone how to actually comment or take action. Let's be clear, Most isn't my party, but this woman did good work.

San Francisco Department of City Planning

And who actually oversees what that Department does? Using that logic, we might as well just accept whatever excuses some random politician makes when they claim they "can't know everything." Seriously? The administration is directly responsible for how its departments function. Period.
It’s such a shame about this woman—she’s honestly one of the better council members. Calm, thorough, and actually gets things done. Check out what she had to say regarding working with the administration: 'There isn't much difference whether you support him or not, because he just does whatever he thinks is best.'

Who actually issues the permits?

Check out who’s actually gunning for those oversight positions...
https://sanfrancisco.gov/applications-for-oversight...boards

Like I already said. You know that abandoned single-story building—the one that used to be a cafe (right on the corner at 17 Main Street, back when it was a local hangout)? Well, a hotel is going up there. The developer is some big-shot former banker—just Google his footprint, he's the guy behind that Harmony Villa project near the coast. Now, according to the official city bulletin, they just got the green light for geotechnical anchoring, which is basically code for digging out massive parking garages for this future hotel. Here’s the kicker: with permits like these, if they mess up the sewage or power lines during construction, someone usually gets held liable. But in this case? Everything is being handled "under the table" so everything stays friendly. What does that mean? It means if anything actually breaks, we're the ones footing the bill. Honestly, it’s insane how the whole area from the Boardwalk to the coast is turning into a damn hotel chain in the near future.

Yeah, I noticed they suddenly dropped those announcements this morning too. Honestly, let’s just wait a bit longer—maybe they'll eventually release everything from the Democratic Party. But even then, that wasn't really my main point; it's more about the fact that they're creating cushy roles that aren't even necessary. Plus, it hasn't even been a full year since the last round of new oversight boards was voted in, and here we go again. Like I said before, there's just a lot of redundant bureaucracy starting to pile up.

A local news outlet in San Francisco is reporting that this whole hiring process is actually just a formality to turn temporary contractors into permanent employees, claiming these positions are already effectively filled.
I'm not sure how accurate that is.

As for why it's not on the website yet, it seems like the standard procedure is to wait until it hits the Federal Register first, and only then does it show up online. That's pretty typical for federal agencies.

Oh, really? Sure thing. Yeah, word on the street is that at SOME places, people are already on the job and this is all just a formality. Honestly, let's wait for those big announcements about "transparency" for the oversight boards; I bet you anything that's just a massive PR stunt.
Regarding the situation in San Francisco, look, it's a total scam. First, they said everything would kick off in August 2022, then they just moved the goalposts repeatedly, and now we've got this unpublished loan drama and all that nonsense. Even the World Bank hasn't greenlit anything yet. But honestly, what fascinates me most right now is this move over in the coastal district where everyone's supposedly "trusting" our investor, our favorite former banker. Go ahead, Google him, and you'll see all the shady stuff involving that specific group and whatever else. Man, wouldn't anyone love Tea Vojkovica ❤️? If someone were willing to actually list out every single disaster that falls directly under the responsibility of the city administration, it would be crystal clear that they are, to put it mildly, completely lost in the fog. They aren't any better or different from the rest of them. I gave up on them a long time ago, so at this point, I don't even care. 🤣
