Question for the mods or admins in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Noah Vaughn39 said:So, I'm wondering—if I were to say that the gay community is actually the most qualified group to lead discussions on sexual deviations, would I get a warning or a ban?

I don't see why you'd get flagged for that. It's just your take on who is best suited for the conversation. As long as you back up your reasoning with some actual logic, you should be fine. A strike or a ban seems a bit overkill here.

You can report annoying DMs just like any other post—just hit that little icon so the admins can take a look and handle it. Regarding that missing post, which PDF and thread were you talking about?

All jokes aside, this feels more like a server hang, though it could just be some trivial connection quality issues.
I can log in successfully, type for maybe a minute or two, and then get kicked out. When I reconnect, the post shows up as private, then when I try to edit it, I'm booted from the site again. It keeps happening over and over.

That too 🙂

I haven't run into any of those specific bugs, so yeah 🤷
Thoughts on the terrible moderation over at ex anais in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Steven Chavez2 said:On other forums, this is totally normal. It adds a sense of spontaneity and a relaxed vibe.

So, the issue isn't about some tiny smiley face; it's about the lack of spontaneity and casualness here. In my opinion—and I think I have every right to voice it—the rules on this platform are being taken far too rigidly. Don't get me wrong, I don't have any illusions that anyone is going to change a single thing based on what I say.

Since we're talking about the moderator boldwalker12, I'm assuming this falls under the unknown guidelines. If you want to stay on everyone's good side on this Forum, my best advice is to just give the site rules and the specific unknown handbook a quick read. Specifically, regarding the unknown section, one of the big ones is "posts that only consist of a quoted signature and/or a smiley face are flagged as spam"

I get that it feels a bit strict and might kill the vibe, but the rule exists because people tend to abuse it way too often. Just check the rules beforehand so you don't get caught off guard.

You're definitely not the only one feeling this way. Even the admins aren't thrilled, but we're all just making the best of what we've got.

If you ask me, the only real place to move this would be over to PDF Alternatives.
Banning users who threaten police reports or similar legal action in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Everyone is personally responsible for what they post here on Reddit. From an admin standpoint, the site owns the content, meaning we have the right to delete, edit, or manage posts as we see fit.

We don't tolerate threats on this platform, but honestly, you probably won't see anyone banned just for saying they’re going to report someone to the police. If a user feels something posted here warrants a call to the authorities, that's their prerogative. Playing the "I'm calling the cops on you" card during an argument feels a bit childish to me.

Susan Price30 said:Up until now, it was always understood that any text posted on Reddit was the sole property and responsibility of Reddit itself. Even quite recently, a moderator stated exactly that on the KzB board.

If that's no longer the case, perhaps it should be officially announced somewhere, because the current situation is a bit confusing...

Responsible for what, exactly?

I don't think that's the smartest move you could make.

Case closed. Thread locked.

Laura Mendoza2 said:The only other possibility is that it was just an accident. I'm willing to consider that, sure.

So, it was just a slip-up, the moderator said it was accidental and apologized. No hard feelings here—everyone messes up sometimes. Is there anything else she needs to clear up, or can we call this thread closed?

Morgan Carter said:Then what’s even the point of this thread if I prove a moderator broke the rules and nothing happens? The guy showed he doesn't even know basic facts, yet he's a mod, singles me out for no reason, and actually thinks calling Americans Catholics is an insult while calling Canadians Muslims isn't. I didn't say it—he did.

PowerLock knows way too much to be making such rookie mistakes on a topic like this, so I wouldn't go with that argument. This thread is being locked because there's no sense in letting things escalate just so we can start handing out penalties.
Insulting American people!!! in Feedback & Suggestions ·
There’s already plenty of debate about health and religious upbringing happening on the Forum.

The thread is being shut down because using terms like "Catholic-Taliban" just isn't the way we communicate here.

Walter Brooks5 said:Just when I thought getting a card from Unknown might feel like a tiny bit of payback—especially given how you shut him down in that first post—it turns out otherwise. People on Forum.hr have been preaching about "reciprocity" for years, mostly because they clearly feel like they're being treated like second-class citizens (and honestly, they're probably right to feel that way). But instead of getting that sweet justice, you just team up with the moderator Unknown to flip the script and label it "heavy trolling!" instead. Real classy move.

So now you’re actually going to try and tell me that starting this thread was a waste of time?

As long as there’s no equality for us and no justice to be found, nothing changes!

I think I laid it all out pretty clearly in my first post on this thread.
Let’s look at a hypothetical scenario where if the roles were reversed in a similar conflict, the moderators would have reacted completely differently. I'm talking about a situation where nobody would even dream of reclassifying certain comments as "heavy trolling." Instead, that kind of rhetoric would be flagged immediately as hate speech—which is exactly what it is—and the sanctions would be heavy enough to actually satisfy the victim while staying strictly within the forum's rules.

Twisting the rules just to manufacture violations for one person while letting someone else off easy for serious insults—where there isn't even a shred of actual hate speech based on nationality or religion—is ridiculous. First, they slap you with a standard warning card, then, behind closed doors with the moderator, they decide to upgrade that same penalty to "heavy trolling" the very next day. That kind of moving the goalposts does absolutely nothing for fairness or maintaining any sense of balance between different ideologies on this forum.

Unfortunately, a wolf might change its coat, but its nature stays exactly the same.

Daniel Ward87, look, you aren't some wild animal driven by instinct; you’re a man. That whole "wolf and its nature" comparison shouldn't even apply to you. So, the real question is: are you actually going to find the backbone to help ensure this forum finally starts treating everyone by the same set of rules, or are you just going to sit on the sidelines?

Thanks for the partnership!

The real key here is that Unknown realized he messed up. He's willing to take the hit even if the punishment is overkill or if the admin made a mistake. You could say he's ready to serve his time for an honest error. Half the battle is already won since he admitted he went too far, so we decided to soften the blow by changing the type of infraction, but the 7-day ban still stands.

At the same time, we've sent a clear message regarding the phrase "Catholic-Taliban." 🙂

Matter's settled, the post was flagged, so there's really no point in dragging this out any further.
Insulting American people!!! in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Did you report that shady post from an Unknown? You did. Was it penalized? It was. Just because it didn't happen instantly doesn't mean it isn't happening.

It’s a total myth, especially over in the Religion section, that people aren't allowed to have their own opinions—and honestly, I'm not even going to bother defending or explaining that. The real issue is that people can't wrap their heads around why there are Americans who don't view religion (any religion, for that matter) through the exact same lens as believers. In that sense, the Religion section isn't a monolith, which is why we even set up a separate sub-forum so our religious users can talk about faith-based stuff in peace without getting interrupted by "non-believers."

As an admin, I definitely have the responsibility you mentioned, but that’s only half the battle. The other half has to be handled by the community itself.

Walter Brooks5 said:Doesn't the title held by the cardinal in a city like Chicago represent way more than just some symbolic gesture for the 90% of Americans who identify as Catholic?

Do I even really need to spell this out for you?

So, are we just leaving the final call up to the admins?

Wait, you think I'm an admin? Not quite.

First off, it’s 86%. Second, there were hints in the news about those polls being rigged. Third, a title is a title and people are entitled to their opinions, but that doesn't mean they won't face consequences. Even non-believers have their own "symbols" they get worked up over, so what then?

I am an admin, but I wrote that the moderators would make the call. While we're at it, I'd suggest you watch your tone when talking to the Religion moderators here on KZ.
Insulting American people!!! in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I’m guessing this is about the part where Bozanic gets called a Taliban. Why on earth would that be considered insulting to the American people? Whether it counts as hate speech is up to the moderators, but if it does, then it's just "hate" directed at a specific person, an institution, or a religion—not the whole nation.
Trash PDF moderation issues — again in Feedback & Suggestions ·
brightjackal13 said:No offense, but I haven't seen you actually moderating—or anyone else, for that matter.

Are we all just playing pretend as moderators behind the scenes?

Lately, it feels like every other post in the top three threads is either: a) completely irrelevant to the trash being discussed, b) total off-topic nonsense, or c) straight-up breaking the rules.

P.S. Please, try to be a bit more creative than "Just because you didn't notice doesn't mean..." 😉

It actually makes the mods' lives way easier when users flag posts. It lets them react faster so they don't have to dig through every single thread looking for rule-breakers. Having the community help out with "moderation" is totally fine by me.

Just because it's flying under your radar doesn't mean nothing is happening, and honestly, I'm perfectly happy working behind the scenes. That’s how we handled things with Religion, and it helped clean things up a bit. Change isn't going to happen overnight.
Trash PDF moderation issues — again in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Don't be ridiculous, there's no way they're getting rid of Trash... I'm handling moderation whenever I can find a spare moment right now, but once I step away from Religion entirely, I'll have plenty more time on my hands... along with the rest of the mod team. I should also mention that since I started modding Trash, I haven't been seeing many reports. Just a handful regarding image quoting, so I'm asking you all to please report EVERYTHING you think doesn't belong there.
The Edge is getting censored on Politics again in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I wouldn't go so far as to call anyone backwards. Everyone’s entitled to their own take on things. My main issue with this specific situation is how people keep dragging up these supposed curses. I haven't seen any actual proof of that, even if I'm cool with everyone interpreting the facts differently.

Closing the thread now.
