Let's get some more challenge matches going! in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
Jamie Fowler2 said:It’ll probably be Sanda—basically just some variation of kickboxing.

It just goes to show—this is exactly what happens when you let yourself get tunnel visioned into a single fighting style. 🙂

Sanda means free fighting—it's a fascinating Chinese combat sport that actually made the cut as a demonstration event during the Olympics in Beijing.
Sanda means free fighting—basically a Chinese take on MMA that blends kickboxing-style striking with wrestling. I think they only score the takedowns and skip the ground game you see in actual MMA, though I’d have to double-check that part.

Daniel Chavez14 said:What does it actually mean when someone calls a fighter "polite"? 😕

I think it’s pretty damn obvious why I said Damir is a decent guy—character-wise, at least—and I shouldn't have to spell that out.
Or to put it more simply—calm, humble, well-meaning, cordial, polite...
This is exactly what every decent athlete should strive to be.

👍

Damir is easily one of the most decent fighters I've come across in MMA—not to mention he’s actually talented—and he absolutely dismantled Presečan with a stoppage right before the end of the first round. Mind you, that was both of their first-ever MMA fights.

Jacob Anderson6 said:Hey there. Where can I pick up some ear protection in New York City? I can't really do online orders right now. Thanks.

Check System Import—over in Queens... though they might carry them at Pride-Everlast over on Maxim Street too.

Jonathan Johnson67 said:Well, the guy is looking for something pretty intense—he's 6'3" and about 230 lbs. If he’s eyeing Judo, I bet he’d prefer throws and leverage over just trading punches.

Drew Martin6 is messing around here... honestly, any grappling skill fits what you're after—doesn't matter if it's wrestling, BJJ, Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, or Sambo...
John Gonzalez5, all of those would work for you—especially given your build...

Sarah Booth said:So you're saying Judo... A buddy suggested wrestling to me today—something I hadn't even considered🙂... So it's down to Judo vs. Wrestling...
Does anyone know of a club running over the summer (either Judo or wrestling)?

If you're actually looking to get into submission wrestling, then wrestling is hands-down better than Judo—plain and simple. You'll pick up throws that are way more practical for sub wrestling because, let's face it, in both sub wrestling and MMA, nobody wears a gi—wearing one just gives your opponent an extra handle to work with.
Over the summer, you can hit up the wrestling program at the local community center over on Liberty Square.
Mirko is stepping into the ring! :-) in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
placidbison20 said:Is the Japanese guy Judas or an American?

I don't think Mirkov should have any issues—especially after how he completely shut down Fedorov's GNP.

Look, punk Minowa is an American—he’s barely eighty kilos, yet he’s knocked out plenty of solid fighters... even if he did choke up against some lesser guys once or twice. To name names, he smoked Stefan Leka in seconds, took down that powerhouse Gilbert Yvel, and even handled Giant Silva—who's basically a 230cm, 200kg monster.
His game is all about those lower limb submissions—heel hooks, toe holds, foot locks, knee bars... you name it.

Joseph Johnson6 said:That’s my number! Same question—how much does it cost? 👍

Look, I have no clue what the retail price is—tell me yours—and I’ll undercut you by 20%. We could even trade for some sports gear, like sneakers or a tracksuit... if you're interested!

Brandon Hayes73 said:Wrebox... what kind of kimono??? If I’d known we were fighting over some kimono, I would have broken a rib on you...

How could you not know we were scrapping over a kimono??
Honestly—I only showed up to the tournament because of that—well, and the massive cash prize, obviously.🙂

Jacob Anderson6 said:I think it’ll be way too big for me—probably 175-180 cm. You’re basically a giant compared to me. 🙏What would you want for it?
😘

😬

My kimono fits up to 190 cm, and we can talk about the price 😕—looking at something roughly 20% cheaper than what you'd find in a retail store.

jademarlin26 said:Why do boxers develop by hitting the "pear"?

There are several reasons—though I won't bore you with a dissertation—but basically, it's to teach them how to actually keep their hands up in a proper guard, and to sharpen that hand speed—you know, increasing the frequency of those strikes.

Jacob Anderson6 said:Hey there. I’m looking for a gi for jujutsu. Any recommendations? I’m assuming a judo one would be best since they’re more durable—right? What kind of prices are we talking about, and where can I pick one up? I'm based in Chicago.

http://www.kwon.com/kwon/shop_artikelliste.asp?kid=9 Where are the Kwon stores located in Chicago?
Thanks.

What size are you looking for? I actually have a blue Daedo gi from a Jiu-Jitsu set—won it as a first-place prize in a sub-wrestling match—but I've never even worn it. If you or anyone else on here wants it, just let me know.
