I'm way behind, honestly...🤣
First actual sparring session in a year, and even then, I was taking it easy...🙏

If they’ve got some experience from before, why not?

Yeah, shoot me a DM or an email and I'll point you in the right direction—not sure if they even have a website...

Anyway, I used to make wooden swords for them and for the Dragon—though the Dragon crew focuses more on stage combat, while these guys try to get a bit deeper into the actual soul of it...🙂

Personally, I'm looking for someone based near Washington, D.C.—ideally part of some legit international organization rather than just some local hobbyist group. I can handle the gear myself, but I want the real deal: authentic techniques, realistic drills, and sparring that actually feels like something...

Or are these guys all super understanding once you start showing up? Also, does anyone know of a good MMA club around the suburbs of Chicago or the city itself? Thanks!

old-school jujutsu follows those ancient samurai ryu schools—unlike ju jitsu, judo, aikido, or certain karate styles, which are just modern Japanese budo stuff... basically different vibes entirely.

I’ve been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for about two years now, and I’m really looking to branch out and try some actual Judo, specifically if there are full-contact sessions available...
I was chatting with some guys who are planning to join the special forces soon, and they mentioned an outfit called 'Alfa' being pretty much the go-to spot in the city...
But I’m wondering what the rest of the landscape looks like, you know? Are there more laid-back, recreational clubs out there for someone just looking to train without all the intensity...

To wrap things up, I’d love some solid recommendations on where to go, especially looking for the most budget-friendly spots—maybe even some student discounts—and where they're located... I’m mainly interested in traditional, code-based training rather than those various self-defense classes you see everywhere, since I don't exactly have a ton of faith in those, though I haven't actually tried one myself yet...

That’s not really traditional jujutsu, though...

I really want something that will build up my stamina and actually help me put on some muscle 😁 (for context, I’m pretty tall at about 6'2" and currently weigh a skinny 121 lbs 😢)
Thanks

I'm looking for a spot in the US where I can pick up some ninja gear—think nunchucks, bo staffs, sai, tonfas, spears, katanas, that kind of thing. Are there actual brick-and-mortar shops where I could check these out in person, or is this strictly an online shopping game? If anyone knows a lead, please point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance. 🙂🙂

It’s a different world when you have a kid weighing 65 pounds versus a grown man at 200 pounds whose lower back has already started making clicking noises...🤷 Are there actually any decent neck exercises specifically for people like us? Something we could do at home? And what about if a kid has scoliosis? Should they still be doing headstands and things like that...🤷

Neck work should be a slow burn. In my experience, you start with a front bridge on the head from a kneeling position—then move to legs straight—then transition to the back with hands near the hips—then eventually a back bridge where you kick the legs up. Once you've nailed that, you move on to pirouettes, aging gracefully, etc... Basically, if you take it step-by-step and don't have old injuries hanging over your head, it's not risky.

Then just mix 'em up. My advice? Stick to boxing or kickboxing for striking—and maybe wrestling or Judo if you want that American grappling vibe.

Keith Davis4 said:Honestly, I’m still on the fence xD. I have no clue what the kickboxing coaches are like around here. I checked out a few local gyms where guys have been training for years... and honestly? Not impressed. They told me practice starts with 30 minutes of soccer, then some light drills, and then just basic partner work. And they only train twice a week? :S Doesn't sound like a great way to actually get good. :S
As for Judo and Taekwondo, word on the street is the coaches there are top-tier. :S
Here’s the Judo club I’m looking at:
Dean Ilić - Current U.S. National Champion in the 90 kg division.
Elvis Klacar
Manuel Tikulin - Official Referee for USA Judo.
Milos Vukotic

Regarding TKD, I only found one main coach, though there are others listed.
SLAVKO JEREB - He earned his 6th Dan black belt directly under General CHOI HONG HI.
Apparently, he even spent some time doing intensive training over in Korea. I don't know much about this stuff yet (at least not yet xD).

Which one should I pick? Man, they both look good xD. But if I'm being real, the idea of hitting things sounds way more appealing than rolling around on a mat with someone all day xD. What do you guys think? Which path is the better move??

Go for some modern Jiu-Jitsu—you know, a mix of Judo and Karate. Or maybe Hapkido if you're really feeling that TKD striking vibe.

So you're hitting CoreGym? Well, his buddy from that old Crocop team—Professor Kolakusic—runs sessions there too. I’m loving the workouts myself... definitely worth checking out since it's right in your neck of the woods.

I'd bet anything we've got plenty of psychos like that around here when it gets cold out.
Wouldn't let some psycho get close enough to swing that thing—either I'm outta there fast or I'm throwing whatever's nearby at him...😛

Jacob Foster11 said:Alright, stepping in here as a moderator.

First off, regarding the "Hire/Offer" thread—it’s specifically designed as a spot where someone can say they need web development or offer those services. No links, no images, and zero company names allowed in the thread. Just a plain text ad, and all follow-up happens strictly via PM. Emails, phone numbers, you name it—none of that is permitted. Basically, the thread exists solely to connect people who need a site with people who build them. Because of those strict rules, there's zero chance for actual advertising since the only thing visible is a user's handle. No real names, no brands, no reviews... nothing. This is the one and only place in the entire Internet subforum where any kind of self-promotion is actually okay.

Daniel Garcia is selling books. Books have absolutely nothing to do with the purpose of the thread mentioned above. As for posting ads elsewhere, ads are banned everywhere else. And about that penalty—it was just a yellow card. So, Daniel Garcia hasn't been banned, he just got a warning...

If people want to post various other ads, there's the Classifieds subforum. Or even just put something in your signature like "selling this book, hit me up via PM"—I've seen plenty of users do that.

Look, that specific thread is packed with links, emails, and service prices, which makes them blatant ads. Plus, you see questions and advice about web development and tools popping up there too. It's clearly a space meant for trading services and expertise. Since these books are instructional and directly related to the subject matter and the whole subforum, it counts as offering knowledge—so claiming it's off-topic just doesn't fly.
How am I getting flagged for an ad in the Dreamweaver thread when people in the "Hire/Offer" thread are running full-blown commercials? I didn't drop any links or emails, so I wasn't running an ad. And since when does the rule change depending on which thread you're in?...

This is about the web development subforum.
So, I posted an ad for two web design books from my own collection—put them in the "buy/sell/trade" thread and the "Dreamweaver" thread. Both posts got nuked. I even got a strike because apparently it counts as "advertising" in the Dreamweaver thread, and then the other one got wiped for being "off-topic." Like, how does that work? You see people constantly pitching their professional web development services with full price lists in the "buy/sell/trade" section—which is supposed to be for members sharing knowledge and resources—yet my posts get deleted and I get flagged? Where’s the logic... and what are the actual rules here?
