2013 Car Reveal & Winter Testing Kickoff in Formula 1 ·
William Bennett53 said:I don't necessarily see this addition of purple as a violation of the corporate identity, given how exceptionally recognizable the branding remains regardless. I was previously under the impression that the marketing specialists—who are undoubtedly experts, much like the creative minds over at Red Bull—were planning to integrate these new hues into one of their product lines...

Wait, wasn't that purple added because of Infiniti?

And has anyone else noticed how Jaguar basically turned into Renault? You've got Dietrich buying Jaguar, then Infiniti—which is part of the Renault-Nissan group, essentially Renault—steps into RB, and suddenly it's all "Infiniti Red Bull Racing," even though they're running Renault engines. Meanwhile, the Renault that grew out of Toleman and Benetton sold most of its shares to the Genii Group and became something like Lotus—totally disconnected from the actual Lotus brand. Man, you really have to love the word games these massive corporations play. So, we either have two Renaults or none at all. I'm honestly lost at this point.🤷

That Mercedes looks pretty mean.

Tightening things up too much—just asking for more mechanical headaches, specifically overheating and stalling out again

Looks a bit bumpy to me—it only looks smooth from the side.

Why’d they go with gray though?! It's ugly 😁

Ferrari looks way better than last year
Compared to them, Lotus already looks ancient :-(

The Lotus just looks old and ugly—no contest. Both Ferrari and McLaren look much more solid and definitely more attractive than they did last year.
When you look at them, there's actually a lot of overlap between Ferrari and McLaren—meanwhile, that Lotus looks like it fell off a spaceship.
It's pretty obvious that Lotus's money troubles really tanked their car development.

I've gotten so used to having a hump—honestly, I don't even care if it stays or goes. It'd probably look weird without it 😁

honestly—they just gave the car a new paint job😁

Ferrari has always had these stretches where they’re just starving for a championship. They’re usually hovering around the front, but honestly—they feel miles away from actually winning it all.
Schumacher was the last one to truly dominate the sport; since then, it’s been pretty much nothing. Kimi scraped by with a title by a single point, Massa lost it in the final lap, Alonso was stuck behind Petrov, and now he’s spent the whole race sidelined by illness.
Meanwhile, you had Brawn and Button running the show, and then Red Bull and Vettel being absolutely untouchable.
That said, Ferrari has pulled off some decent results over the last five years and only really had one disastrous season. It’s not enough to justify firing the entire management just to start from scratch with a new crew. It is what it is—you just have to hope next season brings something better.

Raymond Anderson4 said:There’s been some talk that they might actually bring back that exhaust setup from the start of last season. The word is that specific design offered the best kind of downforce, but they were just too rushed to get it perfectly dialed in with the rest of the car's aero.

steelmaker83 said:Who?

I’m leaning toward Ferrari—honestly.
I mean, they rolled up last year with that insane exhaust setup—the one that was basically melting the rear tires and the floor, if I remember right.
Last year's car was just way too slow at the start—mostly thanks to that rushed exhaust setup they slapped together at the last minute. Now, who knows what kind of nonsense they’ve cooked up for this season... we'll just have to see if those wind tunnel numbers actually hold up once we hit the track.

stormybadger8 said:Anyway, just a quick thought on all these rumors about Kimi potentially clinching the title...

Anything can still happen, honestly...
Everyone seems to have written off the McLaren duo, but I wouldn't be shocked if they pulled it off...

Red Bull looked incredible in USA—actually, they seemed totally dominant and still had plenty left in the tank.
But given how this season has played out and how fast the power balance shifts, nothing would surprise me—not even a dominant McLaren, Lotus, or even Ferrari in one of the upcoming races...

I get the feeling the teams just can't get used to this new points system.🤷
There are still 125 points up for grabs.😳

And I was thinking—maybe Bernie could come up with something wild just to crank the viewership through the roof.😳

First time I've actually agreed with you on something.

The only thing globally, it feels like Kimi is the one being written off, not Hamilton.

But yeah, if Lotus finally brings that DDRS and Ferrari delivers a functional part, things would get interesting.
Ferrari had their moment of glory at Indianapolis—Alonso grabbed a trophy or something during qualifying, so he probably paid for it with the win.
McLaren was strong in Belgium and Singapore.
And Red Bull was a killer in USA (though they weren't bad in Singapore either).
Lotus is just always there, stuck right in the middle.

Beyond the cars, though, it’s about how the drivers handle themselves.
Out of the bunch, Kimi is definitely the coolest head—I don't think any championship math would rattle him even 2%.
Hamilton is hungry for a win, but the question is whether McLaren will actually let him have it.
As for Button, I think he's basically written himself off.
Alonso? He doesn't really care deep down, especially since he lost a ton of points once due to someone else's mistake.
Vettel—if he’s got a beast of a car until the end, he's champion; otherwise, he isn't.
Webber pretty much gave up on himself after Silverstone.

Bernie's ideas are always out of this world—I wouldn't be surprised if we see another Goodyear lottery with identical tires and other nonsense.

Honestly, Alonso is basically pulling the same moves as Kimi this season.
Just cruising around the track and crossing the finish line—nothing exciting about it.
But look, Alonso got lucky and landed in the championship lead, while Kimi had a bit of bad luck and ended up sitting in 3rd.
Still, Kimi outscored his teammate by a huge margin, just like Alonso did. So yeah, Kimi’s definitely not lacking anything.

Frank Collins85 said:So Kimi might just stumble his way into a championship again—purely because everyone else messed up? Man, I’d be absolutely stoked if that actually happened...🤣

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me one bit—actually, I'm totally rooting for it.
Kimi actually closed the gap this weekend since Alonso had to drop out. Detroit is still struggling big time this season; they're just missing that one extra tenth of a second to catch the leaders. Even though they claim they've been cranking out upgrades all year, maybe it's just not cutting it. Kimi lives for the win—he's not interested in just cruising to some 5th place finish.
If Vettel and Alonso both DNF next race, or if Kimi pulls off some miracle win, things could get wild in the final stretch.
Just imagine—winning the title in a comeback season? People at Ferrari would probably start shooting at each other. 😁

I mean, what are you even gonna say? From what I saw, Felipe was actually sincere when he congratulated both of them—meanwhile, your precious Vettel was just messing around with Kamui

Roger Wright94 said:So incidents like this—and honestly, just everything else lately—really get under my skin. I can't even remember being this frustrated. It actually crossed my mind to just stop watching altogether, which is something I haven't felt since back in the mid-eighties.

I'm definitely not the only one who thought about tuning out
but yeah, it's super irritating
2012 Japanese GP (Suzuka) - Oct 7th in Formula 1 ·
Let’s be real—Matt Damon had a massive stroke of luck there
McLaren was honestly a disaster; he only gained three spots because people dropped out, plus a decent start, and that’s basically it.
Still, it was a solid drive—he kept that Ferrari right up there with Vettel while he could, but hey, things just didn't go his way.

Moving on, Red Bull is clearly the class of the field right now, so I don't see why Vettel wouldn't take the title again.
As a Ferrari fan, I’m honestly just counting on the sheer laziness coming from those French and Italian suppliers—it's the only way Alonso stands a chance.
I mean, Ferrari (being their usual sloppy selves) can barely get an aero tunnel working right, let alone build a championship car.
2012 Japanese GP (Suzuka) - Oct 7th in Formula 1 ·
Kimi's keeping up—he's right on Alonso's heels after this race—but Lotus is struggling with upgrades just like Ferrari; that DDRS thing has been lagging since Canada. Honestly, he’s got a real shot at 3rd in the drivers' standings and 3rd for the constructors. That's pretty much the ceiling for Lotus this year.
If Grosjean hadn't messed up so many times, they might've actually fought for 2nd in the constructors' championship.

I have no clue what happened with McLaren. Both Button and Hamilton had some pretty lackluster races. Seriously, even Massa was looking better than them.
2012 Japanese GP (Suzuka) - Oct 7th in Formula 1 ·
Everyone’s looking at this completely wrong
Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen both had a job to do—Grosjean just totally botched it.
Basically, Grosjean was supposed to pick off Sebastian Vettel at the start, while Kimi was meant to hunt down Fernando Alonso so he could close that points gap to the leader.
But Grosjean messed up big time—he accidentally went after Mark Webber instead. I honestly think he didn't mean to, but man, those two Red Bulls look identical when you're moving that fast.😁
2012 Japanese GP (Suzuka) - Oct 7th in Formula 1 ·
Man, Massa finished second, but still...
What would have happened to Alonso if he hadn't collided with Kimi?
Honestly, though—it feels like the title is slipping toward Vettel. That points lead is basically gone, and Red Bull is just too fast in qualifying.
2012 Japanese GP (Suzuka) - Oct 7th in Formula 1 ·
Looks like at this rate, Alonso's gonna run out of points for "damage control" before the season even wraps up
if tomorrow's start goes smoothly—which is a big if—Alonso will probably just be settling for 3rd through 5th again
