Tutorial: The Ultimate "How-To" Guide (FAQ) in Forum Help! ·
So, how am I supposed to keep track of this forum?
Look, here’s my deal—I’m mostly a lurker. I drift through maybe one or two sub-forums, occasionally stumble upon a thread, maybe drop a comment or just read it and move on with my life. It's nothing major. But the problem is, after three, five, or ten days, I realize I have absolutely no clue what I actually commented on, what questions I asked, or even what I was reading in the first place (because, let's face it, my memory isn't exactly top-tier lately). How can I actually look back at my own history?

What’s the most practical way to stay on top of things? I know there’s an option in the settings to "follow" a thread... does that actually work for anything useful?
Generally speaking, a few tweaks for the better across every single segment wouldn't hurt 😉
Ugh, seriously... 🙏 basically just standard legal boilerplate at this point

But honestly? I was hoping for a much more detailed breakdown—I’m really not satisfied with these tiny little crumbs of information they're tossing us 🙂

And here's my unsolicited advice for the day: it is high time you start charging what you're actually worth. Go out there and demand your money. At the end of the day, the person hiring you is making a profit off your labor anyway 😉
So, another week down the drain—we got completely swept up in all those holiday festivities, didn't we? Between the Fourth of July and all the long weekends following it...

And still, absolutely zero response from anyone. 🙂

Anyway, I’ve got this one question that’s been nagging at me for ages. You know that little icon at the top left of the page next to where it says Reddit? It looks like some weird hybrid between a printer and an office building 🤦—but if it’s a printer, why does it have doors and windows? And if it’s a building, why on earth does it have paper guides and a cooling vent?

I'm genuinely curious: what is that thing supposed to be?

☕
jadetrucker43 said:I honestly don't have the bandwidth to deal with this many questions while I'm on the clock. 😬

If nobody else steps up to handle this, I'll reach out to you tomorrow.

Tomorrow was yesterday. ☕
I still can't quite wrap my head around this—I haven't been able to find a clear explanation anywhere. Let's look at the math. There’s some software involved, someone wrote the code for this Reddit site, and apparently, you have to pay for it. Plus, there are servers running everything—some clunky setup that seems to crash constantly 😬
. Actually, that's not even the main point.
The real question is the purpose; is the entire reason for existence purely based on economic calculations?
Advertising revenue. And everyone else—the moderators, the site managers, the admins—they just do all that work for free??

Has anyone ever actually conducted research on how effective advertising on a forum like this really is? I ask because I honestly can't remember seeing a single ad here. Once, by pure accident, I clicked on an Enfamil baby formula link. That was it. When I come here, I come here with a specific goal; I just look for what I'm searching for. 🤷 If everyone operates like I do... then frankly... I'd say advertising on a forum is just throwing money down the drain.

Furthermore, how does it make sense for people to work for nothing? (I know the concept of volunteering exists, but you usually have to be incredibly dedicated or a student to pull that off.)

Does Reddit have any other reason for existing besides pulling in ad revenue?
Is it possible to read the nation's pulse here? Can marketing gurus, PR specialists, or sociologists draw any meaningful conclusions from these threads? It would seem logical, wouldn't it?

Moving on—this question is prompted by things I've witnessed over on Rid; I'm wondering who decided to "clean house" on the forum and why. I mean, so what if a thread gets started? It doesn't cost anyone anything out of pocket. ☕ The point is, if you want people to keep circulating here, you need a positive atmosphere where they feel like coming back to exchange ideas and socialize. Trolling and heated arguments are an inevitable part of any community.

If the logic is that the PDF is so spammed that new people (new market niches) won't want to join, forcing a complete restart, then I get it.
Though, I still don't understand what motivates the mods to do this if they aren't getting paid, and their bosses aren't breathing down their necks with threats of termination.

A thousand "whys." 😬

So, we're treating weaning like it’s some kind of trending topic??

Honestly, so many of us have been through the ringer because of this subject—it's exhausting. It’s a real shame if you all think it doesn't deserve to be a top priority. 👎
We actually got some cash gifts from our folks—all in USD, naturally—so we’ve got a little something tucked away on both sides; honestly, they really stepped up there 🙏

(And I don't just mean specifically for the baby, but more like... a nice little financial cushion for all those random household expenses we’re constantly juggling, you know, everything related to getting ready for the little one)
And wouldn't you know it—that was the exact day the local street fair happened to be open... right when I finally dragged myself back from downtown with that damn bra in hand 😬
Morgan Evans3 said:Mood swings are hitting hard—one minute I'm laughing hysterically, the next I'm sobbing uncontrollably...
For instance, the other night I was cracking up, showing my husband a nursing bra and laughing at how awkward everything looked, but ten minutes later I was a total wreck, convinced he doesn't love me because of my stretch marks and how much weight I've gained. 😕
And I’m sure it’s driving him crazy too...

Plus, the swelling in my hands and feet is absolutely brutal!!

hahaha, mine actually asked if I was at some adult expo when he saw that bra😂

Sarah Adams3 said:Insomnia and nightmares... I woke up around 4:00 AM last night completely drenched in sweat,
I had this terrifying dream and was just so scared that I couldn't get back to sleep at all,
and honestly, I seem to wake up at the same time every single night and just can't drift off again,
I can't find a comfortable position to sleep in, so I'm just incredibly exhausted because of it,
I feel like crying all the time and maybe it feels like the end of the world every day... that's all for now...

oh man, yeah—last night I dreamed I was pregnant AND part of some organized crime syndicate... there were multiple gangs, the FBI, high-speed chases, undercover operations, double agents... eventually, I just surrendered to the authorities voluntarily because, well, since I'm pregnant, it’s probably safest for the baby if I just turn myself in... god, my nighttime life is so much more thrilling than my actual daytime existence😂👍

and as for the hormones and being overly sensitive... honestly, nothing trivial has made me cry yet, but the other day my partner was telling me about this girl he'd been messaging online—how sweet she was, how they basically fell in love without ever meeting, and then he sent her a photo, but she just wouldn't send one back—not that she didn't want to, she was just too shy, but finally she did, and turns out she was... well, let's just say she wasn't his type, and he couldn't bring himself to keep talking to her. She kept messaging him asking, "Is it because of the picture? It's not my fault I look like this, you could have just told me that was the issue..." and he was like, "She was so kind and I felt so bad, but I really couldn't go on..." and I actually found myself tearing up over such a tragic little story about this poor, sweet girl... even now, thinking about it, I'm getting all misty-eyed😢
Honestly, I am just completely exhausted by all this endless theorizing—though, I suppose, how would I know without actually doing it? How much stuff do we need? What specifically goes where? What’s for me, what’s for my nipples, what’s for the baby, what else could we possibly require... it feels like there is no end in sight, or at least no light at the tunnel's end

I was sitting here thinking: okay, we have the crib, one set of sheets, a mattress, the stroller, the car seat, the onesie... so, yeah, we’re totally set 😬 yeah, right!

Then I hear that we need a mobile. Like, what kind of freaking mobile? We don't need a miniature theme park hanging over her head; babies sleep, they don't see anything. God, I don't know the first thing about kids—I'm hardly an expert—whereas my friend who is a professional preschool teacher actually knows exactly what stimulates development and when.
And apparently, we’re going to be terrible parents because we won't know how to properly nurture and develop everything that needs developing. I feel like a complete amateur, like I’ve stumbled into something that is definitely not my field of expertise... it's like enrolling in an electrical engineering program right after graduating from butcher school

And oh boy, the shopping list just keeps growing. I missed out on those Huggies wipes when they were on sale at Target, so now I'm staring at these massive arrays of pacifiers, trying to figure out how to choose from a sea of shapes, hole sizes, nipple types, materials... and towels—seriously, is there nothing cheaper than $27/for those tiny hooded towels??
I mean, how is anyone supposed to remember all of this? It’s becoming maddening... 👎 just plain exhausting.
Everything that catches me off guard just leaves me feeling irritated.
And honestly, even the things I saw coming from a mile away? They irritate me too.

It’s just... absolutely everything ☕

I am not having another kid. No way. Not happening. ☕
Honestly, flipping through *Pregnancy & You* was driving me absolutely insane
It was such a sweet gesture from my partner to pick it up—like, he bought it for both of us—but let’s be real, he mostly did it for himself since I already know all this stuff... It’s just that typical, mindless fluff you find in every women's magazine, just enough to make you feel "connected" or whatever 🙄
The way they worship the whole idea of pregnancy—talking about bliss, fulfillment, finding purpose, pure happiness... meanwhile, all I can think about is the actual labor part, and if I had my way, I’d rather just skip it entirely 😱

I’m having an incredibly easy pregnancy, which makes me wonder if I should even bother trying for a second child. Everything feels so risky and exhausting that I’m leaning toward not complicating my life any further than it already is

Muuuuuch too selfish, I agree ☕
So, I’ve been sitting here, stuck in one of those bouts of boredom, just scrolling through—well, let's call it "researching"—some of the older posts on this Forum. And honestly? I’ve read enough to know that some of this stuff is just... questionable. There are certain stories floating around where I would personally bet my life savings that they never actually happened—they feel completely manufactured, just exaggerated nonsense designed for drama. ☕

Anyway, there it is. Just getting a few things off my chest, I suppose. 😁

(Brace yourselves for a wave of honesty)

Not that any of it is getting under my skin or anything. 😛
It honestly drives me crazy that I can't even stretch properly anymore... my torso, my spine—everything feels so tight, especially my core. ☕

I had a total moment of embarrassment the other day. I went into it feeling all confident, thinking I could just breeze through some standard yoga poses, but nope—my glutes and stomach just refused to budge an inch off the floor. I was basically stuck to the mat, just sitting there with this massive "WTF" expression plastered on my face. 😂

I am seriously counting down the days until I can finally nail a bridge pose and actually feel flexible again like a normal human being.
Sarah Johnson7 said:Alright, here’s a little something to brighten your day (I’m an ex-mom who barely gave up anything during pregnancy, and hey, I have a perfect, gorgeous 2-month-old now):
I was digging through some old stuff at my parents' place and found this book from the 60s called *Pregnancy and Family* or something like that. I’m flipping through it and it actually says pregnant women shouldn't smoke more than two cigarettes a day. 😂 😂
So if that was considered "healthy" fifty years ago, and if women back then stuck to that and still had healthy kids, I'm pretty sure a little Coca-Cola, coffee, or bacon isn't going to kill anyone.

Honestly, I’m not even shocked by that... especially since if you talk to regular smokers—the ones who are truly hooked—they’re usually told not to quit cold turkey because the shock to the system is just too much... it's better to taper off slowly. And logically, if you're tapering down, you're eventually going to end up at just one or two a day anyway. I have a friend who used to smoke well over a pack and a half before she got pregnant, and during her pregnancy, she tried her best to keep it under five... sometimes it was just one or two, sometimes three or four, occasionally six... you know how it goes. And, of course, she had her doctor's blessing along the way.
analognomad59 said:I personally tossed out everything on that list just out of pure fear 😢 alcohol, coffee, Red Bull, Burn, black tea, Coke, all the carbonated stuff, anything made from cured meats (like prosciutto, bacon, sausage...), meat and dairy products that aren't packaged with a label and an expiration date, tuna, salmon, cod, even shark (not that I’ve ever eaten shark, but man, I wish I had the option 😳 ), and basically any deep-fried food unless I whip it up myself...

I just realized I probably need to ditch mozzarella and gorgonzola and all those soft cheeses too, plus any fresh fruit or veggies in sandwiches or salads bought out since I can't be sure they actually washed them 👎 but look, I am a total germaphobe, and even if there isn't some bacteria lurking around to catch, stressing myself out over "what ifs" isn't exactly great for the baby either.. 👎🙄

Oh man... seriously... you've left me speechless 😁 and actually gave me an idea for lunch—Gorgonzola sauce! I haven't had that in ages and I really need something quick 👍

Anyway, things like Burn, Red Bull, fast food... none of that was ever really on my menu to begin with. As for booze, that's strictly reserved for celebrations when I'm not pregnant, and carbonated drinks are extremely, extremely rare for me...

But here’s what bugs me: nobody seems able to explain why I shouldn't drink soda. A few times now—at lunches or dinners where I reached for some sparkling water or a Coke—people have just told me, "Oh, you shouldn't be drinking carbonated stuff." If I actually ask, "Wait, why exactly?" no one has a clue 😂

I mean, for crying out loud, if I want to grab a small Bitter Lemon once in a blue moon, why the hell not? 🤷
analognomad59 said:Ugh, tell me about it, I totally lose my mind over this too 👎 Like, I'll grab a sandwich with deli ham (since I can't touch raw meat 🙄), cheese, and lettuce... and then later I'm sitting there thinking—wait, what if they didn't even wash the lettuce?? 😲 What about Listeria?? 😲 👎

Hmm... 🤔 I haven't really had to skip any specific foods because of the pregnancy yet... everything is pretty much business as usual for me... tuna, the occasional Coke, maybe a beer here and there, cheese and cream from the local farmer's market, ham, prosciutto... 🤔
Honestly, I couldn't care less what anyone else does—if they want to waste their lives, fine... It’s not like my acquaintances have any right to judge me for being active and hiking up hills constantly. They love to make those little comments like, "Oh, you shouldn't be doing that, you'll strain yourself..." —as if! As if staying cooped up at home, eating everything in sight and overindulging like 🙄 would somehow be better.

Anyway, putting that aside—which wasn't even my point, just a bit of a tangent there—what I really wanted to vent about is how much junk is out there on the market specifically designed for young, inexperienced parents. You know the type; people who get worked up thinking every single gadget is an absolute necessity, and they feel pressured to buy the newest, most expensive, most "premium" thing for their kid.

And look, we fall right into that target demographic ourselves—young and clueless. But looking around, I can see that half of this stuff is completely unnecessary... though I haven't quite pinned down exactly which parts yet. 😬

Take BMS, for example. I was looking at this bizarre item that makes zero sense—it's about $5 or so, has two holes, and comes in red or blue. We actually asked the clerk, "What is this?" and she goes, "Oh, that's a frame. You put the first positive pregnancy test in the bottom hole, and then you stick the ultrasound photo in the top one." 😕 WTF? I mean, kudos to whoever actually wants to preserve a pregnancy test for months on end, 😂 and honestly, major props to whoever came up with the idea to mass-produce and sell this nonsense. 🙏

Sometimes I truly feel like an idiot just looking at the sheer volume of "baby gear" available.
Like these dressers... what kind of ridiculous dresser is this? What's the point? "To hold baby things," they say. Does it really need to be covered in patterns of ladybugs and little pigs? Seriously. And those three massive drawers... I don't find them practical at all. Maybe I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be better to have several smaller drawers or maybe some small cabinet doors, just like a normal piece of furniture?
Oh, wait, I forgot—apparently, the baby will feel more loved if their dresser has a lion print on it. 🙄
Harold Cook2 said:My husband and I agreed that if it's a girl, he decides, and if it's a boy, I decide—since my turn came up, I'll admit none of the masculine names are absolutely gorgeous to me, but I narrowed it down and would go with Noah, short and sweet and fine by me. And now people are acting shocked😛 like I just said something offensive or disgusting... but I'm the one carrying him for 9 months, I'm the one doing all the work to bring him into this world, so I'm the one deciding... right?

It also totally drives me nuts when they tell me, "Oh wow, you're pregnant? We can't even tell..." and I'm already 6 months along...😠

Honestly, Noah has been everywhere lately—it feels like it's practically trending. I know three little ones born in the last couple of years who are named Noah. Even back when we didn't know the gender yet, we were cycling through names, and we all agreed Noah was pretty, just maybe a bit too popular right now.. 🤷 As for why these people are making such a big deal out of it... I have no idea..

David Mendoza97 said:Hey ladies, I’m not actually pregnant or anything, but I read all your posts constantly and you guys are honestly the best! 😍

Hope you don't mind me chiming in here, but I really had to jump on what Harold Cook2 was saying... My cousin was about 36 or 37 weeks along, everything was already bought and ready to go, except they were still missing baby towels and her aunt promised she'd grab them.....

So there I am, talking to my man (we were stuck at the ER with his mom because she wrenched her arm—ugh, we were waiting for hoursss) about how we seriously need to hit the stores this weekend since the baby is basically due and I haven't picked up those towels yet.... and then my mother-in-law just goes, "just wait a little longer." My first thought was—lady, you have ten brand new baby towels sitting in your closet right now, you're totally gonna give them to us..... so I ask her, "why?" and she tells me, "it's too early!"

Wtf? What am I waiting for, until the kid starts college? 🤷 🤷 🤷

I'm seriously considering just not telling her I'm pregnant... honestly, when the time comes, I might just keep it to myself 😍

If we hadn't been stuck at the ER..... it would probably be better if the kid just showed up home naked and barefoot and THEN the parents go shopping because "anything could happen," right? 👍

Sam White62 said:Yeah, people are giving me grief because we're waiting until the 34th week to go pick out a crib...

Well, tell them this: given that medical outcomes can be unpredictable, and there's a massive chance—like 99.4%—that everything will go perfectly and the baby will come home healthy, you might as well get some things ready ahead of time. ☕

It's not like you're going to regret spending the money if the absolute worst happens. 👎
