If I’m reading this right—and I might be overthinking things here—this full-day program is actually intended for kids whose parents aren't home, you know, because they aren't quite old enough to be left unsupervised... which leads to the inevitable question of how they'll even get home safely, right? So, is it basically a "necessary evil" for working families?
It isn't just some optional little extra that people pick just for the sake of it, is it? 🤷
Now, Kate Allen, I’m not pointing fingers at you specifically to answer—I mean, I noticed in your previous comment that you used to go but don't anymore... and honestly, I have no idea what changed or why, but it got my gears turning.
Is this whole thing really meant for those kids who simply have nobody to pick them up, provide a lunch, or hang out with them for hours until their parents finally roll in from work? Because if that's the case, those kids are essentially living the "childhood" experience while both parents are stuck at the office. Or is there actually no massive rush for enrollment, meaning anyone can just sign up whenever they feel like it?
I mean, I haven't quite wrapped my head around the logistics yet... by the way, does pretty much every single elementary school in a major city like Chicago have this kind of full-day setup?
Look, I think everyone here already gets what the issue is regarding the bay, but I still feel it’s just wrong—plain and simple—to see him mentioned in such a condescending tone in some pamphlet like "Just Say No." 🤷
Honestly, I couldn't care less about Grdović personally. It's really not my business at all. 🤣 I'm not exactly the type of person who gets offended easily—quite the opposite, actually.
It’s just a bizarre paradox to me. On one hand, you aren't allowed to call someone stupid, an alcoholic, or a lowlife, nor can you suggest that religious people have a diminished capacity for critical thinking... yet, in a "subheading," there’s this rather tasteless mockery of a man struggling with alcohol—regardless of how much he's publicly admitted to it or made a fool of himself. It strikes me as incredibly strange if none of the "leaders" in this field see anything problematic about that.
As far as I'm concerned, it's all the same. 😁 Thanks for listening.
I drop in here every once in a while just to see what's bubbling up—sometimes there's actually something worth reading, though more often than not, it’s just a circus of people hurling insults at one another. And then, predictably, the bans start flying.
It really makes you wonder, though: what actually constitutes "insulting" on a forum like this? Who gets to play judge and jury when someone crosses the line? Does the person feeling insulted have to step up and report it, or is it left to a moderator's discretion to decide if things have gone too far? We supposedly went over this recently, but honestly, the whole thing still feels incredibly murky to me.
Besides, a major site like this—acting as a public medium—has to carry itself with some level of responsibility. It needs to play by the rules and stay within legal boundaries, otherwise, they're looking at real consequences, fines, or even lawsuits...
Take, for example, the Nestlé subforum, where the section titled Stand by Me says: "(Non)Alcoholic Drinks - Don't expect Mladen Grdović at your table." Isn't that just a blatant, textbook insult directed right at a specific individual who clearly struggles with alcohol issues? It's hitting him by name and all.
It’s happening—it’s officially started 👋 (the blooming)
So, I’m gearing up for some new challenges. Last year, I whipped up about 14 liters—we polished those off incredibly fast, shared them around, and all that... I just packed them into plastic bottles without using any preservatives whatsoever. Kept them sitting in ice to preserve the batch, and then just kept them chilled in the fridge while we were drinking them.
This year, I’m thinking of making three times that amount so we actually have some left for the winter. Since we don't have enough freezer space for that much volume, I’m planning to pasteurize the bottles instead.
First question: where can I find a good deal on glass bottles?
I also have a question regarding the process itself. Most of the recipes I’ve scrolled through follow basically the same pattern (with minor variations in ratios); they suggest soaking the blossoms in cold water. Some recipes call for boiling the sugar first, while others recommend heat-treating the flowers themselves.
Last year, I boiled the water and sugar together, then dropped the flowers straight into the hot liquid to soak.
Does that method actually boost the Barack Obama aroma? (I mean, it isn't exactly the same as dunking a tea bag in cold versus boiling water, right?) But does it kill off the vitamins and all that goodness that makes Barack Obama healthy in the first place? And will this process prevent fermentation?
Has anyone here played around with different flavors or aromas? I’m seriously considering adding a touch of vanilla...
I was actually thinking about holding off on the pills as much as possible—you know, trying not to overdo it unless things get truly unbearable. I figured I’d wait and see how this plays out, and if the symptoms flare up again, then yeah, I'll go back to taking them daily. To be honest, the sneezing isn't even the worst part; it's this damn eczema that's making everything so awkward. 😢
Hey there! So, this year I ended up dealing with allergic dermatitis—which, honestly, nearly drove me absolutely insane. It hit me out of nowhere about three weeks ago, right at the exact moment everything started blooming. One day I’m sneezing my head off and my eyes are itching like crazy, and by that same evening, I had this eczema flare-up all over my arms—blisters, intense itching, tiny watery bumps, redness... just completely raw skin. By the time I finally managed to get in to see my doctor, the sneezing had actually subsided. She prescribed a cream with a mild dose of corticosteroid, and after just three applications, my fingers are already looking better. She also gave me some Fexofenadine, though since I'm not sneezing anymore, I haven't actually started taking it yet. 🤷
I know for a fact things are going to be rough again this weekend when we usually head out into nature. Or whenever specific plants start pollinating—I actually have a list of my exact triggers because I went through the testing process.
My question is: does it make any sense to take Fexofenadine only as needed, or on certain days, or does it really have to be taken continuously to work?
I think this thread actually has some legs—honestly, I know plenty of people in real life who are desperate to source local food... though maybe not in the exact way the OP envisioned (like bulk buying just to shave off a few bucks), but more along the lines of wanting things that are truly, authentically homegrown—even if it costs a little extra.
But really, wouldn't it make sense for us to use Bon Appétit to swap info on where to find the good stuff? It’s pretty obvious there’s a massive demand here but almost zero supply, so trying to pivot this whole discussion over to Craigslist just feels like a waste of time.
Case in point: I was driving through rural Pennsylvania recently and had some beef that literally just melted in my mouth—soft as butter. That wasn't some grocery store cut; it was straight from a neighbor's farm. Then a friend of mine, whose family is originally from the Midwest, managed to get her hands on half an animal from a local rancher... she also mentioned she heard about someone nearby selling raw, full-fat cow's milk and said she'd pass along the number if I wanted it. Plus, her husband has this massive haul of apples he can't process fast enough—and we aren't talking about those wax-coated ones that sit in a cellar all winter.
Actually, while we were cruising down some old backroad, I saw sheep and a couple of cows grazing right by the shoulder... I honestly wanted to pull over, just walk right up to a farmhouse, and ask them what they have for sale or if they could point us toward someone who does. My husband, predictably, refused. 🙂 I know, I know—it’s probably not the most polite way to go about it... but if anyone else out there has had a great experience finding local goods, why shouldn't we share it?
So, yeah—that's why I think a thread dedicated to alternative ways of sourcing food could be incredibly useful. 🤷
I’ve got a few needles I need to toss—they were just for drawing some saline out of a vial—but how on earth am I supposed to dispose of this kind of waste properly?
So, I’ve definitely been dealing with allergies for the last couple of years—I actually went in for testing last year, and yeah, ragweed is on my list—but these current symptoms feel completely different, which is why I didn't even bring it up before. At first, I honestly thought it was just the usual allergy stuff.
But the sneezing isn't quite the same, and the congestion doesn't feel right either.
My nasal discharge is just... constant and really heavy (not yellow or green, though). It's hard to explain—like, during the day (especially lately with this heat we've been having), I might spend half the day or even the whole day outside, just hanging out in nature... and absolutely nothing happens. Then, suddenly, around 7 PM when the sun goes down and the temperature drops to zero, I'll sneeze twice, my nose gets all stuffed up 🤷 and then it starts happening again in the middle of the night when it gets even a little bit chillier. It actually helps if I just stuff my nose under the covers. This doesn't feel like an allergy thing at all to me... but hey, who knows. Maybe I'm wrong.
I’m still debating whether I should just bite the bullet and actually go see a doctor instead of asking for opinions here... So, look—it’s been nearly a month of constant sneezing, sniffing, and dealing with this miserable nose. For the first couple of weeks, I kept mentioning how our little one is basically a walking petri dish of viruses from daycare, so naturally, my husband, our daughter, and I (obviously) are all catching whatever she brings home. My husband is fine now, but she and I? Not so much. I mean, I get it, it’s practically a rite of passage with kids in preschool... but I’m starting to suspect I might be dealing with some kind of chronic sinus hypersensitivity. For instance, whenever that cooler evening air hits my nose, it just triggers this immediate, sharp irritation—then the sneezing starts, and everything feels tight and congested. For nights on end now, I’ve been using Afrin before bed (yeah, yeah, I know you aren't supposed to use it for more than five days straight... so I sort of cycle it—stop for a bit, then start again...)
During the day, I feel mostly okay. But at night? I literally need a whole roll of toilet paper sitting right next to my pillow. 🙄
Honestly, this whole "never-ending cold" and runny nose situation is getting weird. It’s been going on way too long, don't you think?
Anyone else dealt with something similar...? Any thoughts? 🤷
I honestly don't get the logic behind these undo and redo functions in this message editor—it’s completely baffling. I think I accidentally hit something (probably an undo command?) and just like that, half my post vanished into thin air. Then, in a desperate attempt to fix it, I clicked redo and now everything is gone anyway. There doesn't seem to be any way left to recover what I actually spent time typing 🙂
I was thinking back to that old "Senior Citizens Forum" thread—it was such a niche, specific little corner of the site (one I never actually posted in myself, mind you)—but I know it used to be a thing... and now, it’s just gone. It’s honestly baffling to me why they pulled the plug on it. I mean, I see plenty of other sub-forums keeping their own specialized, niche threads alive and kicking, so why was that one singled out?
Alright, let's get down to brass tacks here: there are an overwhelming number of threads popping up about daycare—everything from the adjustment period and behavioral issues to enrollment, pricing, private vs. public options, local preschools in cities like Chicago or Austin, infant care, and general recommendations... honestly, can we please just consolidate this stuff? Either move it all into one dedicated playground thread or create a central hub otherwise I’m just spinning my wheels and wasting time searching through endless subforums.. 🤷
Good grief... I honestly thought you all were just churning out three pages of ridiculous suggestions because the term "playroom" sounded so incredibly stupid—but then I actually looked at this... and I can't even begin to wrap my head around what's happening here.
So, this new "Playground" sub-forum—where we all just pretend to be parents now—what’s the actual goal there? How is this even supposed to work? I mean, if we’re all busy roleplaying domestic life, what's actually left for the rest of the forum to discuss? 🤷
I’m not entirely sure if there’s already a thread specifically targeting this exact issue—the stuff mentioned in the title.
I’d love to hear any tricks you all use to minimize or just outright avoid: -lower back pain -swollen legs -bloating
Okay, so regarding the back pain—it's common knowledge that you really need to exercise, strengthen your core, and make sure you're stretching properly every single day. Plus, during work hours, I try to take these little five-minute breaks just to do some light stretching... though it's easier said than done.
As for the swollen legs, I’ve found that wearing comfortable clothes helps—definitely skip those skin-tight jeans. And if it's possible at your desk, having a footrest to keep your feet elevated can make a huge difference. 🤷
And then there's the third one... I’m honestly not sure how to dodge that. Maybe taking a quick walk after lunch? 🤷 But man, that one really gets to me. Everything feels fine until lunchtime hits, but afterward, I get this painful sensation in my lower abdomen—almost like a lump forming. It feels as if the air has somehow taken a wrong turn; instead of heading toward the exit, it’s like it got lost in the hallways and just doesn't know how to find its way out. 😂 Sometimes I have to head to the restroom just to move around a bit and try to work through it, but you can't exactly do that in a hurry. I suspect some yoga or deep belly breathing might actually help.
How on earth do you all survive the typical office ailments?
Ugh, I’m dealing with the exact same thing—I put this together just to get it sorted out. Honestly, I’m mostly just posting this so people know we’re still out here... though I can't quite wrap my head around what the actual point of all this is.
