The movie plot is set in the 1950s within the glamorous fashion scene of post-war New York City. At its center are tailor Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville), who run a high-end fashion house dressing film stars, socialites, and various members of the upper class. Various women pass through Woodcock's life, offering this bachelor some companionship and inspiration, but everything shifts once he meets the young and beautiful Alma (Vicky Krieps)—a woman with a strong will who becomes his muse and, eventually, his love interest.

It’s the same story year after year. There are countless films that just end up stuck in the shadow of massive blockbusters, basically waiting for someone to actually notice them.
In my opinion, the ones that were unfairly overlooked this year are

L'avenir (which probably wouldn't even have its current buzz if Isabelle Huppert wasn't starring in it, and honestly, I think it's better than Ell)

I guess beauty matters more than anything else in today's world. I see these new "stars" in magazines all the time, and their talent doesn't even come close to the icons we considered legends fifty years ago. It seems everyone just wears more makeup than I've seen in my entire life, while their actual singing or acting skills take a backseat, which isn't right.

Also, just one more thing... a few years back, I read an article about whether men prefer blondes or brunettes. I have to say, even the guys who claimed they preferred brunettes found their eyes drifting toward the blondes first.
