Harvey Milk (2008) in Movies ·
It’s a solid movie—actually pretty interesting because it gives you such a unique perspective from the other side of the fence... Penn did an incredible job portraying that sensitive, effeminate gay character, though it makes me wonder if the real Harvey Milk was actually anything like that... and honestly, as for that specific role he had to play in this one, I wouldn't touch it even for a million bucks...
The worst moderator selection! in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I’ve honestly always gotten along great with all the mods—never really had any friction with them, except for that one weird situation involving MEP... 🙂

So yeah, just a little testament to my smooth sailing with the higher-ups... 😉 😁
The Godfather: Part II in Movies ·
The third one definitely doesn't hit quite as hard as the first two—it’s a bit of a step down, I guess—but calling it "bad" feels like a stretch... there are actually some really solid moments in there if you look closely...
Moulin Rouge! by Baz Luhrmann in Movies ·
I can't deal with how much Nicole Kidman constantly does that intense staring thing... 🙄

It’s like she totally invented that look back in "Moulin Rouge"... honestly, I bet Baz told her, "Hey, maybe try gazing into the distance a bit... you know, like you did in that other movie..."

And wouldn't you know it, Baz was behind the camera for "Moulin Rouge" too... 🙏

So, I guess Baz, the staring, and Nicole Kidman—they all just kind of come as a package deal... 😁
Arthur Anderson49 said:Khmmmm... could someone argue that it's actually kind of intellectually shallow? 🤣

Well, yeah—it’s basically built on just one relatively interesting premise... everything else feels pretty dry, aside from the computer going insane... hmm, true enough... 😁

northerncrane4 said:In 2001, humans are gods too. And it isn't linear—it's cyclical.

I mean, okay, it's cyclical in two different cycles... you see it clearly, and yeah, people become gods—well, compared to a computer losing its mind—though back then, people were also losing it because they were staring down the barrel of WWIII... 🙂
Both of these films really dive deep into what it means to be human... in the Odyssey, you've got these alien gods pulling the strings, whereas in Blade Runner, it's actually the humans who feel out of place...

The first one is pretty straightforward—everything gets sorted out through this next big leap in evolution—so it doesn't leave you drowning in endless riddles or existential questions...

But the second one? That’s classic film noir with a sci-fi twist, and just like any good noir, nothing is ever truly clear until the very end, if it's even clear then...

I haven't quite finished watching it yet... I just can't seem to force myself to get through it...
Anyone else struggle with long movies? in Movies ·
So, am I submitting this? Well, one way I judge film quality—just my own little theory, anyway—is the runtime... I’ve always felt that longer is actually better... you just can't tell a truly great story properly in only an hour or maybe ninety minutes... 👍 😁

And don't even get me started on the Moderators' totalitarianism, their lack of accountability, and how they just do whatever they want!!!!!
They've really gone too far!!!!

This Reddit has solid rules and everything else
but it doesn't work like it should
because the people enforcing them don't give a damn about them!!!!!

Things smell rotten at the top!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...

Edit:
Deleted the rest because there's zero point in keeping it here!!!

it's actually a moderator's job to step up and take control... 🙂
Man, I just absolutely love this whole democratic totalitarianism thing... 😁

You really ought to dive into the work of Gerald Massey or Acharye sa—not to mention countless other authors who actually back their claims with hard facts, unlike certain people...

I mean, I could sit down right now and write a whole book about aliens living on Mars, but just because it's printed on paper doesn't make it true...

The problem is they lack actual evidence... those books mostly just lean on what other books say, rather than looking at primary sources or raw data—and half those other books are just spinning lies or inventing "proof" out of thin air...

For instance—that depiction of the crucified Dionysus you see all over where Zeitgeist The movie is being promoted is pretty striking, isn't it? It's used to argue that Christians basically stole the cross and slapped Christ on it... but once you realize that specific imagery actually comes from the 2nd or 3rd century AD, rather than the pre-Christian era, the whole narrative shifts—Dionysus was actually just jumping on the cross instead of Jesus, right? 😉

Or take another example: they claim Krishna was a virgin birth just like Jesus, but according to the records, he was actually either the seventh or eighth child of his mother... 🤣

honestly, that whole section on Christianity is total nonsense... just complete fiction at this point...

It’s been around in all sorts of different shapes and sizes since, I think, 1999... 🤷

Come on, anyone here older than me—help a person out... 🙂

It’s just because when you first showed up, everything was fresh to you—you know, that "grand realization" phase🤣—and every single topic felt like something brand new. But eventually, you hit that point where things start looping back on themselves.
Just think about the folks who were hanging out on Reddit back in, say, 2004... after a year or so, all those same old topics probably started feeling just as repetitive and exhausting and, well, silly as they do to us now.
It’s just a cycle, my dear Svibek... a total cycle...🧐 😉

Now, imagine me... I've been around since 2002... man, I have drifted in and out of this place so many times... honestly, there were more periods where I wasn't here than when I actually was... 🧐 😁

As for the quality of the discussions here on the forum—look, us moderators can't exactly go around banning people just because they decide to start threads that don't interest everyone else... we see ourselves more as gardeners, really—we just tend to and nurture the topics that actually take root, which is pretty much our whole job (right, bellwether? 🙏 😬)

Nobody is stopping you "old-timers" from starting whatever topics catch your eye... 🙂
Reviving old hazelnut crops in Feedback & Suggestions ·
There were moments here on the forum where things felt a bit schizophrenic—like we were caught in this weird loop where people were getting flagged for starting new threads when old ones already existed, but then at the exact same time, they’d get penalized just for bumping an old thread back to the top... 😵

Speaking as a moderator, here is my official, *ex cathedra* take: I am never, ever going to penalize someone for reviving a thread if they’re actually adding something useful or constructive to the conversation, no matter how old the topic is... but, if someone is just posting fluff or starting a thread for no reason at all, then yeah, I’ll step in and issue a penalty...

Then, of course, you have those certain "eternal" topics—you know, those classic evergreen discussions, like the one about male anatomy dimensions 🙏... before we finally put together a massive mega-thread for it, every few days it seemed like someone would pop up and start some new, rather "cocky" discussion thread...
