Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
Karen Phillips21 said:I think I'm actually losing my mind!

A few years back, my doctor left to go grab some specialization—nobody really knows when or if she’s ever coming back (my guess? Not anytime soon)—and now she's being replaced by this older doctor who just grinds my gears. Look, the guy is perfectly nice and all, but I feel like I have to negotiate everything with him. If an internist already told me I need certain tests, why on earth should I have to beg him for the referral?

But yeah...

Does anyone have a recommendation for a doctor in Savannah? Honestly, they don't even have to be world-class—I'll settle for average—as long as I'm not sitting in the waiting room for hours and they actually follow through with the recommended testing. Of course, if they happen to be friendly and easy to talk to, I'd be thrilled.
Oh, and one more thing—it would be great if they're actually accepting new patients. Every single person who's been recommended to me so far has a waitlist a mile long...

Just quoting myself here in a moment of total desperation...

🙂

Am I losing my mind here?

A few years back, my doctor left for some sort of specialization—nobody actually knows when she’ll be back, if she even is—and now she’s being replaced by this older physician who just isn't my cup of tea. Don't get me wrong, he’s a nice enough guy, but I feel like I have to negotiate for every little thing. If an internist already flagged that I need certain tests, why on earth should I have to plead with him just to get the referral?

But anyway...

Does anyone have a recommendation for a doctor in Savannah? Honestly, they don't even need to be world-class—I'm looking for perfectly average. My main priorities are avoiding a three-hour wait in the lobby and having someone who actually follows through with the recommended testing. Of course, if they happen to be friendly and easy to talk to, I certainly wouldn't complain.
Oh, and one more thing—it would be great if they're actually accepting new patients. Every single person who's been suggested to me so far has a waiting list a mile long...
Imitrex pills vs. nasal spray? in Health ·
Regarding Imitrex—I’m not entirely sure if that’s the only way they package it, but the prescription I was handed only came with two tablets meant to go under the tongue (honestly, I was a little stunned myself when I realized there were only two in the pack)...

I don't know—maybe there's a larger pack somewhere out there... or perhaps a nasal spray version.
Is going to the movies... in Movies ·
I’m somewhere around the halfway mark with this one.

It usually goes like this: we’ll agree to catch a movie, but we don't actually nail down any specifics until just a few hours beforehand. Like, maybe we touch base around 2:00 PM to settle on a 5:30 PM showing.
Then we meet up at 5:15—just enough time to grab a quick cigarette, snag the tickets, and pick up some popcorn...

As for after the credits roll? It really depends. Sometimes we head out somewhere else, and the whole thing ends up stretching into the early morning hours.
Other times, we just call it a night and head home... it all depends.
Look, I’m not out here hunting for perfect logic or some deep, intellectual manifesto.
I just want these characters to act like actual human beings. I want them to feel the adrenaline! Because once that rush hits, everything else follows suit.

Honestly, though, looking back, I kind of resent how little they seem to fear anything.
Take that scene in TTCM where they stumble upon that abandoned factory; they hear something echoing from inside and the girl just marches right in to investigate. It feels so mindless. I don't know... maybe I'm just being too hard on them.

After sitting with it for a bit, I’ve realized that Alien is actually a great example of how it should be done. In that movie, people weren't just standing around being passive and dim-witted. Sure, there were exceptions, but generally speaking, everyone grabs a gun and starts fighting for their lives. They run. They scramble. No one is acting like some fearless, untouchable superhero.
That’s what feels real! (Though, let’s be honest... "real" and Alien... it’s a stretch) 😉
That movie was bad... seriously bad. The main characters were just boring, uninspired, and I couldn't find a single reason to actually root for them. Total garbage.

Someone mentioned Wrong Turn earlier? That one is even worse!

I don't know... my biggest gripe with horror movies is how passive the protagonists are. They spend most of their time doing such incredibly stupid things that I eventually just find myself wishing they'd die already.

Like, in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, when that woman walks up to those two girls in the cabin and realizes they aren't even reacting to anything she's saying—the smart move would have been: "No thanks, I'll pass on the tea!"

Or, slightly off-topic, but take Wrong Turn—if you're out in the woods, you just pee in the woods. You don't trek halfway across some damn mountain just to find an abandoned shack to use as a restroom. I never understood that trope in American movies; if you stumble upon a house, you just go inside... what a joke.

I'm honestly just a little annoyed... UGH!

I actually thought the movie was pretty good... I didn't even blink at those "gross-out" scenes. They felt perfectly integrated into the story for me.
The only thing actually driving me crazy right now is: is that damn game finally over?!
They've looped back on themselves so many times that I can't tell if they finished it, or didn't, or did—by the end, I was just spinning. (I had a similar headache with Lynch's Lost Highway and that woman.)
And the worst part? I honestly can't decide if I would have preferred them to wrap up the game or just leave it hanging.

Well, I guess we’re already getting heated...

That’s exactly why I mentioned I wasn't quite sure who we were actually talking about here.

goldberry said:She should just stick to the English literary classics! Grrrrrrr

I don't want to get too nitpicky right now, and I'm not even entirely sure who they mean by "English literary classics," but Sylvia Plath was American—born in Boston. Sure, she married a Brit, but that doesn't make her English.

Anyway, I really love Sylvia, so I'm actually a little nervous about this movie. Usually, when it comes to adaptations like this, I end up disappointed because I just let my expectations get too high...

On another note—why on earth does Gwyneth show up in British films so often? It’s not like she’s *that* great. She sort of worked for me in Shakespeare, if you can even call it that, but I just couldn't stand her in Emma. And I actually like Jane Austen...
Alias (2001-2006) in TV Series ·
I used to catch glimpses of it on Pop TV every now and then...
Personally, I don't have strong feelings about it either way. It’s got its gems, sure, but it also has its fair share of filler. It feels like one of those perfectly mediocre shows—the kind where you sit down for "just one episode" and suddenly realize two hours have vanished into thin air.

If I'm being honest, though, the most interesting part of the whole series for me is the CIA director character rather than the lead woman. It offers a little something for the guys to latch onto... even if it isn't anything groundbreaking.
Nirvana in Music ·
I honestly don't get why everyone seems to jump to the conclusion that Gold Against the Soul is their worst album.

Personally, I think it's fantastic—just like everything else they've put out. Every record feels unique, almost like a different entity entirely. Now, I'll be the first to admit I’m probably not being objective here, especially when it comes to their older stuff, but I genuinely loved this one...

I mean, you've got absolute classics on GATS like La Tristesse Durera and Roses in the Hospital... It’s actually impossible for me to imagine the Manics without those tracks in their catalog.

That said... I'm currently in one of those phases where I find myself listening exclusively to the B-sides while I'm at work.

By the way... I still think their peak era was before Richey disappeared, back when they were just out there having a total blast (though, let's be real, some were definitely wilder than others...)—like when Nick dressed up as a hellish maid. 🙂 Ah... why does everyone have to grow up?
Fearless Killers in Movies ·
I’ve watched this movie a handful of times now, and I still haven't actually figured out its original title... how embarrassing. Though, if I had to guess, I think the English title is Dance of the Vampires.

I have to say—I absolutely love this movie. Every single bit of it. But that one scene where they’re dancing? The whole room is packed with vampires, yet when you look in the mirror, you only see three people reflected there. It’s such a brilliant touch, isn't it?
I can't quite put my finger on why it left such a lasting impression on me, but I have to say, I really loved it.

And that old guy—was he some kind of professor or something?—he looks like what Einstein would probably look like if he decided to go out hunting vampires.

And yeah... his pregnant wife, Sharon Tate—who was actually that blonde actress from the movies—was murdered by the Manson crew.

Yeah... that was the lightning bolt I was waiting for.
And man, wasn't the anticipation sweet while it actually lasted? 🙂

I’m planning on checking this movie out too, but honestly, I’m a little wary of that whole "female version of Dead Poets Society" pitch. Usually, when people frame it like that, it just inflates my expectations, and then I end up disappointed when the actual film doesn't live up to the hype.

From what I’ve heard in the trailers, though, it sounds pretty promising. If it manages to capture even half the magic of Dead Poets Society, I think I’ll be satisfied.
(Now that I’ve actually said that out loud, I feel like I should probably brace myself for a lightning strike or hear some cosmic voice in the background whispering, "Yeah, right... just keep dreaming.")

Or maybe we should just look at this from a woman's perspective—you know, back when a young Mel Gibson was constantly parading around shirtless with those perfectly sculpted abs... Oh yeah... definitely a sight to behold.

Manic Street Preachers

Ever since back when they actually had to hunt down Richey, and whenever they were wearing enough eyeliner to sink a ship—not to mention when Nicky looked like he’d crawled straight out of some hellish cleaning crew scenario.

Fast forward to today, and they’ve all grown up and cleaned themselves up, yet here I am, still completely head over heels...
(And honestly, I'm not even sure if I should be feeling this embarrassed about it—but when it comes to matters of the heart, the brain doesn't really bother showing up to the party, does it?)

I’m currently sitting around waiting for the third Harry Potter book to arrive. Honestly, it feels like I've been waiting forever.
Even though I usually find the books way better than the movies, seeing Gary Oldman play Sirius in part three...

I wasn't entirely sure if watching the movie was even worth my time, especially since it’s based on an Oprah pick. And honestly, her recommendations aren't always my cup of tea.

But after reading through your posts, I might just give it a shot. It definitely sounds intriguing enough...
