How do I upload images and videos to the forum? in Forum Help! ·
Robin Barnes7 said:Hey everyone, quick question for you all—is there a way to attach images when sending private messages here?
Thanks

Yes.

Either within the message compose window, use this icon:

- click it and in the EMPTY field (clear out the default 'http://' first)
paste the image URL... then obviously hit OK.

(this ensures the recipient sees the image directly within the PM)

For multiple images (in that same message), repeat the process for each one.

Or

attach them to your message using this icon

paste the direct link to the image you want to send - (though nothing happens without a valid link).

_____________________

Before hitting send, click the 'Preview Message' (the button to the right of 'Send Message')
to make sure everything looks exactly how you intended.

(and try not to tempt anyone with those photos)

That red

is redundant in both posts.

In the image upload window, either delete that unnecessary part first
or highlight it ('blue it up') then paste your image URL right over the highlighted area...

Michael Jackson10 said:You think it’s overlapping because the timing within the subtitle file itself is messed up?

Something like that, yeah—it’s almost as if there's an overlap in the file title.I am ready. Send the content. Time.(na) Designed specifically for displaying individual sentences...

Michael Jackson10 said:It looked like there were two different subtitles. To the naked eye, the bottom one had less brightness—almost like it was hardcoded directly into the film.

Screen brightness isn't just about the backlight. It’s actually somewhat dependent on the specific characters used in a word. Words composed of letters with flatter, white strokes tend to look perceptibly brighter.

And here I was, thinking the timing overlapped. (i.e., they overlap) Only two titles, yet it’s clearly part of a much larger issue. So, what about timing and other variables? It's a mess.

The subtitle at the top is blue ('Level 1').
"The railroad companies are going to be massive.
They're happy to make any kind of arrangement.
"
;

The second layer of subtitles in this image is highlighted in yellow.

The subtitle start on 'Level 3' is in red.
"I don't follow. What exactly are you asking?";

In white, much like everything else, it’s just several layers of varying sentences.

Michael Jackson10 The user said:It’s clearly a VLC media player issue, not an issue with the OS.

That’s most likely how it is—now that @coppersailor28...Daniel Cruz28 He pointed out that VLC media player isn't quite the same as the version built for Windows.

Daniel Cruz28 said:VLC media player on ChromeOS feels completely different than it does on Windows. The settings are pretty stripped down.

Here’s the VLC.log, if it actually helps..

A log wouldn't mean much to me, unfortunately. I shouldn't even have to log into a Google account just to see anything. I'm not exactly an IT expert, for what it's worth.

Though there are likely some experts around here who actually know what they're talking about.

If you're seeing this with other movies and different subtitle formats ('.srt', '.sub' '...') too, then based (check the linked image), it looks like ChromeOS is causing VLC media player to misinterpret the timing for certain subtitle segments...

(Manually editing the subtitle timestamps probably won't help, given that everything works perfectly fine on Windows OS.)

How to transfer video from phone to laptop? in IT Support ·
lonefalcon said:It won't let me (copy) the file. I get an error saying "the requested source is in use."
If I keep hammering at it, it eventually works. 🙄

It seems like some program is...

(for example, if you have Microsoft Internet Explorer open to a folder containing that video and the 'Preview pane' (file preview) is active -> click 'View' at the top, then 'Preview pane' on the left (though if it's already active, you'd see it on the right side of the window))

It looks like a program...
...linked to your Windows (or perhaps Android?) settings is locking the file (marking it as 'in use') when you try to copy, move, or rename it.

It could also be your antivirus software, given that the file stops being locked after a while.
If it's the antivirus, disabling it (just during the video transfer process) should help—most programs offer a temporary disable option.

However, if the culprit is Microsoft Internet Explorer or something similar, try using Lockhunter. That tool 'unlocks' just about anything that can be unlocked (it won't work on something currently held by an antivirus, for instance).

@wanderingrider86,
Paste your link into the window that pops up when you click an icon like this --> ,
Once you've pasted it, just hit 'OK' in that same window...

(Make sure the default 'http://' stays highlighted
— enough so that pasting your link over it wipes it out automatically)

If you actually knew anything about science, you wouldn't be writing something like this (quoting my post #22, @coppersailor28) ...

Look at him now...
By his own logic, if anyone believes that the religion called Christianity HAS a connection to science, they should probably consider me the most influential scientist in the universe.

Steven Clark2 said:Just for those forum users who prefer reading things on a napkin, here is the De-mythologizing The Science-Religion Conflict : an interview with Peter Harrison article:

First, Christianity provided The motivation for the formal investigation of Nature. Second, Christian ideas provided som of The necessary presuppositions for modern science , most notably , The idea of laws of Nature. Third, Christianity provided The values that gave social legitimacy to modern science. This accounts for why science was consolidated and integrated into western culture in an unprecedented way. In short, the history of modern science cannot be fully understood without an appreciation of The Key rola played by religion.

That "in short" summary is plenty for the smart ones, since everything is available online. There is much more serious literature covering all of this in far greater detail, but average people aren't really keeping up.

Steven Clark2 said:First, Christianity provided The motivation for the formal investigation of Nature...

Right. So the "science" known as Christianity didn't just motivate people to investigate nature; it presented nature as a book where not a single tiny twig or leaf will change until the world ends:

Jesus in the Bible:
"Truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter nor the smallest stroke in the Law will pass away until all things are accomplished. Therefore, anyone who breaks one of the least of these commands and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven."
(Mt 5, 17-19)

Steven Clark2 said:... Second, Christian ideas provided som of The necessary presuppositions for modern science , most notably , The idea of laws of Nature ...

Basically, the Christian God decided it would be a good idea to define how everything He created actually functions.
Extremely difficult to grasp the master plan, isn't it?

Steven Clark2 said:... A third example would be that Christianity provided The values that gave social legitimacy to modern science. This accounts for why science was consolidated and integrated into western culture in an unprecedented way. ...

So the fundamental assumption here is that science is essentially Western.

Steven Clark2 said:... in short , The history of modern science cannot be fully understood without an appreciation of The Key rola played by religion.

In short, Christianity was the only boundary science ever had...

Arthur Sanders74 said:... so you're saying Christians (people) drove progress, rather than Christianity (the religion) itself. A crucial distinction!

Where exactly do you see a fundamental difference? 😁 Though I think I follow: you want me to draw an analogy, implying it wasn't America that won bronze in the World Cup, but the soccer players. 👍

... ...

'A fundamental difference' lies in the fact that those people were, heaven forbid, and Christians.

And you—or people like you—would have achieved that same progress even if religions didn't exist, since the sole aim of Christianity
(meaning belief in Jesus, Yahweh, and the Holy Spirit)
is strictly 'eternal life,' which is what this association of three gods promotes.

Scientific discoveries, for instance, are tied to the scientific method,
(obviously, hence why they're called scientific)
but 'Christian methods,' for example, are something else entirely—being utterly useless, they are just as unwanted by science as they are by progress.

What clouds some people's perspective is the reality that Christianity acted as an 'exceptionally long-term occupier,' meaning in that role, as the sole arbiter, it either sanctioned or prohibited certain activities.

Password updates are mandatory for all members

You likely noticed an uptick in crypto-related spam over the last few days.

The messages are coming from long-standing accounts. It’s clear our database was
compromised at some point and is now in the hands of spammers.

Any account posting these messages will be sent to the
ban corner, regardless of account age.
They are compromised, and there's a high probability their passwords have been hijacked
to facilitate further spamming.

If someone needs to recover a banned account, they must contact the mod or admin team to resolve it.
The user will need to provide sufficient proof of ownership.

To be blunt, the accounts banned so far have been largely inactive with minimal post history.
Use your judgment regarding how much effort we put into returning them to the original owners.

Until now, password changes weren't required here. That was strictly reserved for mods and admins.
Clearly, that was a poor decision.

You can use this thread to offer suggestions on the frequency of required updates
so we can set the parameters accordingly. 🙂

For those concerned: note that accounts won't work through
Tapatalk until the password has been updated via a standard web browser.

Some users have already handled this—specifically those who frequent the forum regularly
and actually care about it. 🙂

A news notice was posted a few days ago regarding the mandate, but it only appears
when logging in via a browser. It doesn't show up on Tapatalk. This thread is necessary
to ensure everyone is forced to comply.

This isn't an isolated incident. It happens constantly on many American and international forums
where databases were leaked online following past hacks.

Casey Bennett said:Casey Bennett, your comparison is total garbage.

If we’re actually going to use analogies, this whole situation is like some lunatic breaking into a Home Depot every single day demanding a stuffed unicorn, taping pictures of stuffed unicorns all over the aisles, and picking fights with the managers and customers who try to tell him that a hardware store isn't where you find plush toys—all while stubbornly refusing to leave until everyone concedes that the stuffed unicorn absolutely belongs there and that anyone saying otherwise is lying.

So, after days of relentless arguing and explaining that a Home Depot is not a toy store, and that they don't carry unicorns and never will as long as the sign on the door says "Home Depot," the staff finally hit their breaking point.
They essentially kicked that unicorn-obsessed maniac out the door, sent him straight to the nearest Toys "R" Us, and banned him from ever stepping foot near a hardware store again.

There, it's not that hard to grasp.

But that local toy store (the one where his colleague @Barack Obama was so graciously directed) is actually located in the same building as the hardware store 🤷
