Doing business with USA member states in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Yeah, I checked in a few different places. Some people were a bit hesitant about it, but after speaking directly with Brkanić at the IRS and later checking in with my contacts there, he made it clear that if we're looking at an American tax ID, then VAT has to be accounted for, so I went ahead and ran the numbers accordingly.

Can someone help me out here? I’m trying to figure out what it actually implies when a company from the USA registers for VAT purposes right here in the States and ends up with an American tax ID.

Back before everything was streamlined under the current US system, we had a local American firm billing us for transport services, including the sales tax. We would then pass those costs along to our client—another American company—on our own invoices, but we wouldn't charge them any sales tax because the tax liability was being shifted over to them.

Now, this American company has gone ahead and registered for sales tax locally and has been issued an American tax ID.
Does this mean I need to start charging them sales tax on all the new invoices I send their way?
Karl Marx might have thrown his support behind Leon Trotsky, but as the author of Das Kapital, he would've known deep down that it wouldn't actually pan out. We really need a few more massive scientific and technological revolutions—the kind that deliver entirely new, cheaper materials, energy sources, or processes, or maybe just some radical new inventions—to finally create the conditions necessary to shift away from capitalism. Right now, you're looking at somewhere like Canada, where about 51% of the workforce holds a college degree, and even there, most other places fall well below that level.
Karl Marx was easily the biggest techno-optimist among the intellectuals of his era, yet even he couldn't have possibly anticipated the sheer scale of the technological boom we've seen since his time.

Why is it so much easier to drift through our own little fantasies instead of actually facing the music?
Is reality just that brutal, or are we just looking for an exit strategy?
We’re all supposed to have some grasp on the mechanics of life, yet most days I feel like I don't even know what the rules are, let alone how to play the game.

It should be obvious from the jump, much like how they handled that whole mess with the homeland war or pdf agriculture.

If you take a look at the homepage... It’s pretty obvious that Economics has four PDFs lined up and History has two, yet the Diaspora section doesn't have a single one to show for it. When we start rolling these files out, we really need to stay flexible; my thought is to launch them and see how they perform, then just decide whether to keep them live or scrap them based on whether anyone actually bothers to click on them.

Anyone got any ideas?

If there’s really this much interest in people leaving the US, Canada, or Mexico... then it’s probably best to just launch a dedicated sub-forum called Emigrating to Other Countries, or maybe just Emigration, but the key is making sure it’s pinned right on the main page of so it catches the eye immediately, similar to how they handled the Homeland War or Agriculture sections.

There are plenty of candidates across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Germany, not to mention everywhere else.
Can we please see some actual change to revitalize the diaspora section? Honestly, any kind of shift would be better than watching this place slowly die a quiet death.
Thanks

I am backing your suggestion with everything I've got.
It’s honestly pathetic when a moderator shuffles people who just want to talk about Australian politics and society over to the PDF Politics section, where they end up getting lost between threads debating whether Milomir Bandić should be the Mayor of New York City or what kind of tie Jaca is wearing today.

Back in 1921, the first real pushback against fascism in what was then part of the old American territories kicked off with the Istrian Rebellion, led by a guy named Ante Ciliga.

my boyfriend's been having manic episodes and he's in the psych ward for the third time now. he was on Zyprexa and some other stuff before but it didn't seem to work, so now they've got him on Lithium. i did a little reading but i'm still lost on what it actually does and if it'll even help him. what's the big difference between those two meds?? also read that lithium can be lethal in high doses... how much is too much? like, is it dangerous if he just takes one too early or if he actually misses the mark on the dosage??

They aren't going to give him a lethal dose.
Honestly, you could probably kill yourself with a handful of Tylenol if you were foolish enough to take them all at once. He'll be getting his Lithium under medical supervision, so there really isn't any reason for you to be panicking.🤷

I can't help but wonder how much of your parents' nonsense you're actually expected to swallow before you hit a breaking point.
When are you finally allowed to just snap and say, "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"?
Is there even a moment where that's permitted?
How long are we supposed to keep paying them back for the good stuff they did when the bad stuff starts piling up?

Just let it rip; if they come at you, give them a taste of their own medicine.
If you want to keep your sanity intact, you have to make sure the people around you actually understand how their behavior is hitting you. They might genuinely walk around thinking everything is fine and that you're totally okay with how things are. But look, you can't fix any kind of relationship without honest communication being part of the equation.
Once everyone actually sees the situation for what it really is, maybe then you can start building some healthy boundaries.
Otherwise, you're just going to end up needing a prescription to deal with the fallout.
