I've been messing around with PCs since the early 90s, but hey, that's what happens when you don't actually study hardware. A GeForce X50 or X60 would be totally fine (heh, look at me learning something new... obviously the median value matters more than just the first one), as long as it hits around 700 GFLOPS, we're good.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to look for something with similar specs... I think you could snag a 4850 for about $30, which puts it right in the same range as what you had before.

I checked the Catalyst logs and the AMD display driver logs—everything shows as successful. So where's the catch?
Maybe it’s an issue with those certified drivers... are you running Windows 7 or Vista?

Look... why would you even spend money $100 on used parts, or drop $500 on something new when the whole rig isn't worth much to begin with$67? Plus, you still won't be able to run anything released after 2008 anyway...🤷
I honestly don't think you could even find anything beefier for an AGP slot... besides, everything you've got going on is pretty weak right now. Wouldn't it be better to just save up some cash and overhaul the whole rig through Craigslist?
My RAM is running at 1333 (rated for 1600), but I’ve tightened the timings to 7-7-7-20-1t.
And as for system crashes? Honestly, I haven't run into any real issues outside of running benchmarks... but I don't sweat it too much. Wouldn't I rather just have lower temps, especially now during this summer heat?
Is it actually a big deal if my CPU isn't perfectly stable at a specific frequency and voltage? I've undervolted it quite a bit. It seems totally fine during everyday Windows tasks, and even while gaming—I've played Metro 2033, World of Tanks, and Diablo 3 without a single hiccup. But the second I fire up a benchmark? Just to see the numbers, mind you, I don't run them constantly... it crashes within about 10 seconds every single time.
So, my main question is: could this cause actual damage down the road? Or should I just bump the voltage up a little bit to steady things out? I'm running a Phenom II X4 1055T clocked at 3.5GHz with 1.35v on a Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-UD5P motherboard.
If we're talking about the GeForce 210, there isn't much of a real difference here... both are basically just meant for HTPC setups, right? They aren't built for any serious gaming.
And honestly, you could be out of commission for a second day if you’ve got a damn trophy on the line... I mean, isn't that a stupid question? Who actually knows how long electronics are going to last anyway?!
Honestly? It's going to be tough to find anything better than this. Just make sure you double-check everything first. I mean, it's used gear, right? You don't want to end up regretting it later. 🙂
If your BIOS keeps resetting just from you unplugging the power cable, you might have a dead CMOS battery on your hands. It’s worth looking into replacing that, too.
I picked up an Intel Core i5-2500K and decided to mess around with some overclocking a bit. I don't actually need the extra speed, I'm just bored 😁
Basically, I bumped the FSB up to 250 and landed right around 3.5GHz... I also dropped the voltage to 1.275. I wanted it at 2000, and kept the RAM at 1333, though I did tighten the latencies to 7-7-7-20 1t and gave it a 0.5 voltage bump. Turbo is off, C&Q is disabled, and C1E is on auto (what even is that thing? Should I leave it on or kill it?)
I booted into Windows and everything seems fine while I'm browsing... but now I want to see if this setup is actually going to be stable. What should I use to stress test it?
The rest of my build: ma790fxt-ud5p, Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, 2x2GB DDR3 Kingston HyperX, VTX 6850, Corsair TX650, Windows 7 64-bit.

And honestly, you could have asked this question in other subforums too—maybe the sex and erotica section? Why only stick to half the topics here?
Is that the one on Craigslist? Honestly, I bet it’s already been cooked and toasted multiple times. Look, the 4870 X2 is obviously faster, but what’s the point of swapping out a perfectly functional card under warranty (I assume) just to get one that doesn't work? Even if you manage to fry it, how long do you think that'll actually last? 🤷
Here, this guy compared those two cards, so take a look: http://www.overclockers.com/forums/s...d.php?t=684245
By the way, if you aren't running a 500W+ high-quality power supply, forget about using that thing as a space heater. 😁
My conclusion: even though HD4870X2 can beat HD6850 considerably in CrossFire supported games, it's unpredicted behavior, in my opinion, does not make it a better card than HD6850, and having in mind tremendous power consumption and ridiculous noise (the loudest card i ever had) i would recommend to anyone using HD4870X2 change to at least HD6850.
