Looking for drivers for an old printer in IT Support ·
Larry Ortiz5 said:So, which version of Windows are you running? I actually have an ancient Canon Pixma from way back in 2004—it's basically a relic! But surprisingly, it works perfectly fine on Windows 10. The system just picked it up and installed everything automatically...

I'm on Windows 10, but nothing seems to be detecting it for me.🤷

I have this printer; it’s ancient, but it technically still works (though honestly, it’s useless without drivers). I don't have the original driver CD, and I can't find anything online since it's such an old, retired model—it seems HP has completely pulled support for these legacy devices 😢
Does anyone know where I might track down a driver for this thing?

Just wanted to stir this thread back to life a bit. Does anyone have any new recipes or interesting insights to share regarding this?

Reddit isn't even available on my OS anymore, I guess.🙄

It isn't quite that simple when you're on a phone, though.

Could a moderator move this if I've posted in the wrong PDF section? Thanks.

So, yesterday my mouse cursor started disappearing on me. 🤷 Since I’m running Windows 8.1, I can still see where it's going because of those Live Tiles—you know, you see the highlight as it moves from tile to tile, but the actual arrow is just gone. I tried resetting everything, swapped out the batteries, and rebooted the PC, but nothing worked... eventually, I plugged the USB into a different port and it came back. Then today, the exact same thing happened, but when I plugged in a completely different mouse, the cursor reappeared immediately... what on earth is going on? Is my mouse dying, or is it something else?

Casey Bennett said:The question "which battery should I buy for my Lumia xxx" definitely doesn't belong here. The thread title tells you exactly what this discussion is about: a general overview of the Windows mobile platform. I honestly don't know how much clearer the title could be.

Specific questions regarding a particular device must be posted within that specific device's dedicated thread. That is how the entire Mobile Tech forum is structured, and since you admitted in your warning post that you were aware of this rule, it’s even more frustrating that you chose to ignore the guidelines set out in the Forum Rules for some inexplicable reason.

Let me explain exactly why you received a warning for this:

It's because of that first part where you're criticizing the moderation team. You clearly know where specific questions should go, just as you clearly know where a question about batteries belongs.
The fact that you have these baseless assumptions about it being "better" to ask elsewhere is entirely your own problem.

Great—so your job is basically, and I emphasize ONLY deleting posts without actually helping the user solve their problem. I always thought the whole point of a forum was to help people, not just wipe their posts and deny them assistance.
It was incredibly difficult to move the post to the right section, wasn't it? That’s maybe two extra clicks.

Man, on other forums, they don't just ban users for arguing; they call out moderators too. You could skip the warnings and point deductions entirely. Here, I lose 30 points for this. Bravo. Look, it’s not about the warnings or the points—I’m not trying to farm them. This is about principle. I come here looking for help, you delete my post instead of moving it, and then you slap me with a warning because I called out the moderation. Of course I'm going to respond. From where I'm sitting, it feels like you'd rather delete a post than actually help someone. Like, it's easier to just hit delete and say "too bad" than to be useful. Seriously, thanks for nothing.

What kind of questions ARE ALLOWED to be asked in this thread

🍿

thanks
I wasn't quite sure where to post this, so I figured this sub made the most sense. If I've got that wrong, maybe a moderator can move it. Thanks.
So, here’s the deal—I was supposed to start physical therapy today. The catch is my work schedule. I don't work shifts; I'm strictly on an 8-to-4, but they keep throwing on-call duties and field assignments at me, which makes it impossible to get to my appointments. I wonder if my doctor could provide some kind of official note to excuse me from those field assignments and other nonsense so I can actually focus on the therapy. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Are you implying that those cards with up to $133 2 GB aren't any better than what I've got?

I'd rather not deal with anything used, honestly. I feel like I'd just have bad luck and have it break on me the next day.

Could I get some help here? I currently have this card, but I’m looking to upgrade to something a bit more powerful without having to take out a massive loan 😁Any recommendations? 🙂
BTW: I've already sorted out the rest of my components 😉

Rachel Fox4 said:Is this regarding the motherboard?

Perhaps this might be of some use to you.

If you're trying to troubleshoot some hardware issues, checking the following AMI BIOS beep code descriptions might help you pin down exactly what's going wrong with your system.
(For reference only.)
System boots successfully.
Short summary: I'm running into a CMOS setting error.
**Post 1** I am currently troubleshooting a persistent issue with my desktop build. Upon attempting to boot the system, I am receiving one long beep followed by one short beep from the internal speaker. Based on my initial research into common POST codes, this pattern typically points toward a memory or motherboard failure. I have already attempted to reseat the RAM modules, but the error persists. I am considering testing the sticks individually to isolate whether a specific module has failed, or if the issue lies within the motherboard itself. Has anyone encountered this specific beep code recently? Any insights on how to differentiate between a faulty DIMM and a motherboard fault would be greatly appreciated. *** **Post 2** It looks like I’m dealing with a memory or motherboard error. One long beep, one short. Time to start troubleshooting.
One long beep, followed by two short beeps: Is this a monitor issue or a graphics card failure?
I’ve encountered a bit of a hurdle with my current build. I am getting a specific beep code from the motherboard: one long beep followed by three short ones. It seems to be signaling a keyboard error. Has anyone else dealt with this particular sequence before? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
I’m running into a bit of a headache with my current setup. I'm getting a single long beep followed by nine short beeps during the POST process—specifically a BIOS ROM error. Has anyone dealt with this particular beep code before? I've tried a few basic troubleshooting steps, but I haven't had much luck getting past the error. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
Continuous long beeps: It looks like the graphics card isn't seated quite right.
Continuous short beeps usually indicate a power-related issue. I would suggest checking your power supply unit first to ensure it's providing stable voltage to the motherboard.

Whoops, I didn't realize that. Since my GPU and hard drive are shot, I guess I'll just sit here counting beeps.

@To get back on track, I just started a new thread about the graphics card. You mentioned the monitor is fine and the power supply is solid, so I suppose the next step is testing that card in another PC, or trying a different card in yours. I failed to do that last time, and it turns out it wasn't even a power issue—it was probably just a fried PCIe slot.
Router, LAN, and everything else... in IT Support ·
I didn't actually change any settings. I just shut down my PC like usual and turned it back on a few hours later, and then this happened...
Does anyone know how I can download this? 😁

I gave them a call right away, and they insisted everything looks perfectly fine on their end. I didn't bother messing with his settings; I'm not even sure what I'd be looking to change in there anyway. 🤷
Router, LAN, and everything else... in IT Support ·
So, here’s the situation. I shut down my PC yesterday around 2:00 PM, and everything was running perfectly. When I fired it back up later that evening, around 7:00 or 8:00, the internet was completely dead. I use Xfinity for my TV and web combo; the TV works fine and the Wi-Fi is up, but the hardwired connection to my computer is totally unresponsive. Of course, I get that dreaded yellow warning triangle in the corner saying, "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I'm running Windows 8.1, and honestly, it was working flawlessly until this happened. When I went to check the router lights to see what was going on... well, that's when things got interesting. It turns out my cat knocked the router off its perch onto the floor. I picked it up and it looks physically fine—every single light is blinking away—but the internet still won't connect. I tried swapping the cables into different ports, but nothing changes; the TV stays on, but the PC remains offline 😕. Since I don't have a spare Ethernet cable lying around, I need to test if the wire itself is shot, or maybe borrow a laptop to rule out some weird hardware issue with my PC's port. Does anyone have any other ideas? I have a nagging feeling that both the cable and the connector might be the culprits, since I always seem to run into these kinds of random glitches 🙂
Which PSU should I buy? in Desktops ·
crimsonstag84 said:It might be worth grabbing, especially if there's some kind of warranty involved. That power supply is basically on par with a Fortron Hyper. I'd just double-check that it doesn't have an annoying coil whine or anything, since the price is pretty low.

He mentions it's brand new in the box, though it doesn't come with a warranty.😢

Adam Moore3 said:~$67 That sounds like a fair price to me. If you managed to track down the listing, go ahead and paste it here so we can take a closer look at what we're actually dealing with.

Good grief, there's no way I'm dropping $200 on that. 😁

Well, I suppose I stumbled upon this. I suppose this Zalman 600W GLX might be worth looking at, though I can't say for certain if it's actually any good. It seems like a decent enough option for a basic build, I guess. Maybe around $200? I guess. 🤷
