briskcanyon12 said:If they don't extend the offer with at least a competitive rate—I'm talking a solid $0.50—then there's absolutely no way I'm signing on

They know exactly what people are doing in the app and how much they rely on it, so there's a very high chance they'll just leave things exactly as they are right now.

I personally know a ton of people who signed up for this platform solely because paying utility bills was free, but over time, those folks started dipping their toes into other features here and there. It’s like how someone might start using Amazon just for the Prime shipping and eventually end up buying groceries and electronics there too. But look, the second they start slapping fees on everything, that crowd is going to bail on the bill pay feature, and once that domino falls, all the other services will go right down with it. The only way to prevent a mass exodus is to make sure they stay significantly cheaper than the big banks. A few users might stick around out of sheer habit, but most won't. For me, it’s pretty straightforward: I originally joined just for the bill pay, but lately, I’ve been using it for lottery, occasional credit card payments, mobile top-ups, and even booking stuff like ferry tickets or checking my cell phone balance. If they kill the free bill pay or if the fees make it more expensive than just using my Chase or Wells Fargo app, I’m heading straight back to traditional online banking.

The old spec, the new spec.

The standard doesn't give you a choice in currency—you can't just swap in dollars or whatever. Under the old spec, it's USD; under the new one, it stays USD. The old rules run through June 30th, after which they won't accept any more legacy orders. Every generator should have updated by then, though some probably haven't...

I’ve got about eight people I’ve referred who strictly use this service for one specific thing, and then they just happen to pick up a random transaction here or there out of pure habit. Most of them are younger, and honestly, they’re just chasing the lowest fees—they move wherever the math makes sense. So, if the promo ends, there's a high chance they’ll just walk away from the other services too. Personally, I lean on it heavily for my monthly bills, plus the occasional prepaid card top-up, gas, or even booking a ferry trip or an Amtrak ticket when it's convenient. If they pull the plug on the deal, I'll just shift everything back over to my Chase Visa and set those few accounts back onto autopay.

Card activation question: can I just shove it into an ATM to get things moving, or does it actually require me to make a purchase at a terminal—and does that work with contactless, or am I stuck physically inserting the card or pulling some cash out of an ATM first?

Ethan Collins said:I had such a headache trying to get my registration SMS code sent to my Verizon phone. I honestly couldn't tell if the issue was with my carrier or just their system. I ended up calling the NBA office, and the first time they told me the code had already expired. Then, when I called back, they said the exact same thing! It wasn't until the third attempt that I finally got through. Once that hurdle was cleared, though, everything else went smoothly.
It wasn't exactly a walk in the park, but hey, at least it was just a hiccup during the initial signup phase.

Correct me if I'm totally off base here, but wait—so this is the exact same card they usually charge you for $10 but now you're getting it for free through SportsClub?

We’re creeping up on the end of the month, which means those sweet, sweet days of paying off bills without getting slapped by extra fees are winding down. It makes you wonder, though—once those windows close, what’s actually going to be our best bet for keeping things cheap?

Where did the Chime thread go? Since the old one got locked, I've been hunting for a new one but I can't seem to find anything posted anywhere.

I think I read somewhere that they aren't really taking new users right now, though I guess I might be wrong about that.

Are you following this
procedure?

A bunch of folks here ran into similar roadblocks, but after trying two or three times, they finally broke through. The real key is making sure you actually get that code once the video call with the agent wraps up—once you have that, everything should click into place.

Does that premium Visa end up charging you any transaction fees?

Is it actually possible to do a top-up using a Visa card from JPMorgan Chase, and does Visa end up tacking on some kind of extra fee for the privilege?

Jerry Anderson87 said:A while back, I opened an account with Chime, but I never actually ended up using it. Now, I can't for the life of me remember any of my login details or passwords... It's all a bit of a blur. If I wanted to reactivate the account and finally start using it, what would be the best way to go about that?

Just download the app, plug in your email, and hit "forgot password"... then just follow the prompts through the whole process.

Brian Jones4 said:Does anyone here have experience with these cards? I need to know which one is actually better for use here in the States. I heard that PayPal can handle both USD and EUR.

For my daily life in the US, I’m using a JPMorgan Chase Visa, but I want a single card that works seamlessly when I travel to Turkey, Portugal, Germany, or Russia (though I realize those places are their own thing). My goal is to pull local currency from foreign ATMs while keeping fees to an absolute minimum, if not zero. For example, if I hold both USD and EUR on the card, I want to head to Turkey for a few weeks and be able to pay for everything—from street food to hotels—directly with the card, or just withdraw some Lira from a local ATM without getting ripped off.

PayPal is definitely the way to go since Chime doesn't support those specific currency needs.

Kimberly Perez82 said:Okay, now I'll admit this might sound a little bit silly—I'm probably just overthinking things here—but what is actually the real-world advantage of using a service like this versus just sticking with a standard bank account paired with a well-known debit card? I mean, what can I actually *do* with it that isn't already possible with a typical setup from, say, Chase or Bank of America? Aside from those flashy spending trackers and all those colorful little pie charts they show you in the app... which, honestly, feels like a total waste of time to me... what's the actual utility? Thanks

Look, if traditional banking checks all your boxes and keeps you happy, then honestly, don't waste your breath trying to find a reason to switch, because in ten years, those big banks will probably have caught up and integrated all these features anyway. It’s like anything else; what feels like a game-changing advantage to one person might seem totally redundant to someone else. You've got plenty of comparisons to look through, so maybe dig into them a bit deeper—you might stumble upon a specific feature or a niche benefit that actually addresses a need you didn't realize you had.

Kimberly Perez82 said:I’m looking to receive some international payments for my work, but I am honestly quite confused about how things operate over there. Is Chime registered just like any other standard bank here in the States under the oversight of the Federal Reserve, or is the account technically based in Germany, or what? And also, this whole idea regarding them being able to freeze your funds because they suspect the origin is suspicious... I mean, is that actually a thing? It seems incredibly reckless, unless I have completely misunderstood the situation. Also, where can one actually withdraw cash—is it strictly limited to an ATM? One more thing: is it possible to open an account without using a mobile phone, perhaps just through web-based online access?

They have a license to operate in the States, but honestly, they haven't changed much regarding the regulatory side of things. You're essentially dealing with a US Dollar account tied to their structure. Look, any bank can freeze your money, including Chime. Usually, when a transaction gets flagged as "suspicious," the whole thing just ends up being kicked back to the sender. If you're constantly moving large sums of money into that account from various other accounts of yours, there is a very high probability that at some point they'll come knocking asking for proof of income or documentation to justify where the cash came from. My advice for anyone using these types of fintech cards is simple: don't try to be clever. Try to ensure deposits only come from your own accounts—ideally just one primary card, preferably the one where your main paycheck lands. For anything else coming from third parties, stick to standard bank transfers rather than those sketchy payment links or weird digital combinations. Don't try to move money from one empty pocket to another and you should be fine.

Kyle Jackson72 said:I’m currently in the States, and I tried to use that workaround where I set my shipping address here but listed the country as Mexico. During my first attempt at Identity Verification, the system just hung on that status for a few days. When I reached out to support, they told me they couldn't open the account due to legal restrictions. So, I requested to have the account deleted and tried again. This time, I did the video verification with my ID, which seemed to go perfectly. The agent even told me I was all set and gave me next steps. But once again, it gets stuck on verifying for a few days before hitting me with the same "account cannot be enabled" message. Does anyone know what's actually going on here?

I've run into something similar before, but usually, once you pass that secondary check with another person via video call and receive that specific confirmation code at the end, everything should clear right up. Did you actually get a code after you finished the call?

velvetbear372 said:What does "go back through everything" entail? And what kind of call was it?

Did you actually get on a call with them yet? Because I did, and after a quick little chat, the rep was basically like, "Alright, you're all set, look out for an activation text." It’s funny because during my first attempt at this, nothing happened—just radio silence—but then I went through the exact same process during the second call and everything clicked perfectly fine.

velvetbear372 said:I followed those shady instructions to register, and now I'm not getting the SMS verification code for the app on my iPhone

It didn't work for me on the first try either, honestly, it’s kind of like when you’re trying to get through to customer service at Verizon and they keep dropping the line, so I just had to go back and restart the whole process from scratch, and once I did that, the code popped up immediately right after the call finished.
