I’m just looking for some straight answers here, folks. Is this actually how it works?
If I pay extra for home delivery but nobody is there to catch it, do I really have to shell out more money for a second attempt$1.75?
Then there's the option to pick it up at the UPS Store, but if they offer home delivery in my area, won't the driver just drop it at my door anyway for$1.75? And does that mean I can't request a redelivery later?
There isn't much of a difference between those two options, unless someone clarifies things for me...
Also, they always bring packages under a pound right to the door, but is it possible to ask for a redelivery, and what's the damage to my wallet for that?
Nicole Lee4 said:Look, I wasn't trying to start some massive internet fight here. I was just attempting to explain things. Clearly, I failed.

If a package has a shipping label on it, the delivery is already covered. The recipient shouldn't be handed a bill for anything.
If there isn't one, then you deal with those infamous $1.75 fees.

So, I guess I misunderstood.
The reason I'm asking is because the girl who started this thread said her package had a shipping label—meaning the delivery was paid for—but she was still hit with those ridiculous $1.75 charges.
And then you stepped in and said she actually owed the money.🤷
Nicole Lee4 said:Take a look at the shipping section. You’ll see they actually should have charged you extra. $1.75

Sometimes they just eat the cost themselves.

Looks like everyone's bickering...

I don't really care about that part. I just realized there are two ways this goes down: picking up a package at the post office versus having it delivered to your door. The second option is pricier, which is why they scrapped the old system where you could still pay at the doorstep $1.75 since you already covered the fee at the post office. It used to all be one flat rate, so obviously you were paying for $1.75.
Every girl selling clothes online feels the same way about this. 🤷
If anyone can make sense of this, how does it actually work in the end?

And why on earth would they pay out of pocket if there's a standard rule for it??
Hannah Ortiz90 said:I’ve pretty much had nothing but good experiences with my local USPS branch (assuming you ignore how clueless they are about their own rates ☕), but lately, I’m starting to lose my cool 🙂

Today was the second time a fellow forum member reached out to tell me that a package I sent—with prepaid home delivery clearly selected (it was on the receipt, and they literally slapped the home delivery sticker right in front of me)😠—ended up being held at the post office for her to pick up manually.

I don't get why they charge for the service if they aren't actually providing it. Especially since I make a point to ask beforehand if the destination zip code even supports home delivery (since some branches don't), and we're talking about tiny little packages weighing maybe 8 ounces 😠

Maybe nobody was home?🤷

They didn't mention anything to me.

Maybe that rule only applies to packages being sent within the US, since I was shipping stuff overseas. Perhaps they don't charge that extra fee for international shipments.🤷

"Purchasing a postage supplement is mandatory for all mail sent via domestic transit, excluding newspapers and magazines."
coastalmaker2 said:Is there actually any confirmation that it was sent or what?

Usually, there's no shipping confirmation.
They actually tried to get me to translate something the other day too... This woman asks me, "So the value of this package is $50, right?" As if it isn't written there in giant, bold letters on the box saying it's 100. Like, hello? I tell her, no, it's not that, it's 100... and then she just starts venting all this nonsense about my number on the little slip of paper. Just total chaos.🙂

as a package, $6.00 🙂
Austin Rodriguez5 said:Hey everyone, quick question if anyone knows the deal: does the pickup window include weekends and holidays?

So, I got this notification today saying I only have five days to pick up my package, starting from August 11th. If they’re counting weekends, that means the deadline hits this Saturday. The problem is, I won't be back in town until Monday. Does anyone know if I can just grab it on Tuesday, or is FedEx going to ship it right back the second Monday rolls around?

I think they're returning it around that time, so you should be able to swing by and grab it.
Chloe Brooks86 said:I got that yellow slip today for a package with COD. I was expecting some textbooks (7 of them, actually) and the clerk told me she checked at the local Post Office and said the shipping would be $9.25. So, everything together including shipping should have been $54, but this yellow slip says I owe $59. Any idea what that $4.75 difference could be?

Maybe it's just a USPS fee.🤷 If it is, looks like they bumped it up—maybe by 6%, which would be about $3.00...🤷 $1.75 old school, haha 😁 ...just ask them when you go to pick it up.👍
Nicole Lee4 said:No sane person would ever do that. Honestly, I’m betting most of those dents happen during transit or while they're unloading the truck.
Unfortunately, I used to spot those crushed, fragile packages all the time, but lately, it’s becoming a rare sight.

That’s exactly the kind of thread that makes me stop checking in. Just one of those posts I'm done with. 👎I was asking about those couple of posts from a few threads up.😉
It was just a standard, totally unremarkable package. Honestly, I wouldn't have even blinked if I’d dropped it off at any other branch. And of course, they usually go through without a hitch—mostly because I switched up my usual post office.😉
My wife's telling me the packaging wasn't up to snuff and that the box just didn't fit the contents. Still, she went ahead and shipped it anyway. Typical.🙄 She asked me if it was fragile. Thank God it isn't—well, unless you decide to crush it under some massive FedEx package.😕 And then she actually started swinging at me with her fists, just to prove a point.😲Coma.
I’m actually pretty thrilled with this new post. Honestly, the packages themselves haven't changed at all—they're exactly the same as before—but they still show up in perfect condition every single time.🙂
Nicole Lee4 said:"fragility" adds a 50% surcharge

Speaking of which, does it actually work like that? Like, can they just claim a tiny half-pound box is actually a massive 20kg crate just to jack up the price?😲
That’s what the lady at the FedEx counter told me anyway.😕🤷
Does anyone know which locations in Brooklyn are actually decent?

Like, where they won't lose their minds just because my package is wrapped in white paper instead of cream-colored?😕🙄

Or places that don't try to charge me extra for a standard 50x50cm, 10kg box just because there isn't some fancy ribbon on it?😕 (Besides, the clerk probably wouldn't even want to touch a mess like that if it wasn't taped tight enough to cause an injury. It's perfectly secure, by the way. Won't fall apart.🙄

Which post offices actually handle normal packages without making a scene?

I’m asking because I see packages arriving in absolutely terrible shape compared to how I pack mine—and clearly, other people are sending stuff out without all this drama.🤷
So, I heard you can actually ship stuff in a poly mailer wrapped up with some twine instead of using a standard box?😕 But then again, I’ve seen people get flagged unless they use the official recommended packaging, almost like it's gotta be in an envelope or something. Does anyone actually send stuff like that? I'm totally lost on what kind of bags we're even talking about here.😁 🤷
Amanda Lopez52 said:I’ll check the dates. I'm having issues with two packages my boyfriend sent—he didn't grab the receipt. 🙄 Can you even file a claim without a receipt? (I do have proof of shipment, though.)

You don't need the actual receipt, just the confirmation.
Amanda Lopez52 said:Anyone else dealing with shipping delays after the holidays? I sent out a bunch of stuff across the US, but nothing has shown up yet—some orders date back to June 24th.🙂

Yeah, things are definitely running behind. Though you should probably check with USPS just in case it’s something else entirely; you never really know with these things.🤷
"Per the Red Cross Act, those extra benefit stamps get issued three times a year during specific windows: Red Cross Week from May 8th to 15th, Tuberculosis Awareness Week from September 14th to 21st, and Solidarity Week from December 8th to 15th."
Amanda Brooks6 said:Hey, does anyone know how much it would cost to send a package over 10kg via certified mail? Thanks.

What’s the value? There's a calculator right on the USPS website.😉
Yeah, I also heard some rumor that if you’re sending stuff as a package, it has to be in an actual box. Apparently, bubble mailers aren't cutting it anymore. 🤷
Grace Hernandez63 said:Hey, quick question about sending stuff COD via USPS. If the item value is $73 and the buyer covers shipping, will the post office tack on some extra fee or how does that work? Thanks in advance.

If you're the one sending it, the recipient—basically your customer—is going to be hit with a 3.66% fee on top of the package value and shipping costs. Feel free to set me straight if they changed the rules recently and I missed it.🤷
