Nicole Kern92 said:So she’d basically be getting double? Like, if I paid $20, the post office owes her $40... they give me my 60 back, and she keeps 60 as profit for the goods? I don't think that's how it works 🤷

Nope, that's not it. 😁(Question one on the IQ test right there): if you paid 60, they just refund you 60. If she listed the package value at that amount, the USPS just returns the 60 plus the shipping fee. She doesn't get 120—that would be doubling her money. She’s breaking even, actually coming out about 15 bucks ahead.😉
Nicole Kern92 said:hm, feels a bit silly for them to pay me out, at least not the full amount, since she’s taking a hit too... nobody wins when things go south like this.
I'm kind of hoping 🙂

will turn up.

Just get your deposit back and let her collect the insurance from USPS. Nobody loses in that scenario.😉
steelfalcon14 said:Maybe this isn't the best spot for this question, but here goes—if I drop off cash at the Post Office to pay into someone's checking account, how long does it usually take to actually hit their balance?
Can't believe how much more expensive the Post Office has gotten lately...👎👎

It depends. It takes longer than a wire transfer through Chase or something. Usually about 4 to 5 days, sometimes less, occasionally more.
Nicole Kern92 said:Has anyone actually dealt with a lost package before?
It was definitely sent about 17 days ago, but nothing has shown up. The girl who sent it gave me a photo of the shipping receipt and filed a claim.
What’s the next move? 😕
And what happens if they can't find it? How long am I supposed to wait?

Are you sure it isn't just sitting at the local USPS office waiting for pickup?🤷
I don't know how long you'll be waiting, but I can tell you how it went for me last time. If the package is truly gone, she'll get a resolution from the claim department. A few days after the claim is signed off, they'll cut her a check. Usually, the compensation for a lost package covers the value of the items plus the shipping costs and the filing fee (I think it's around 5, $3.25). As the recipient, you're basically out of the loop on this part. You can only really claim damages if the thing arrives broken or way past its delivery date. Once the post office pays her out, she'll refund you—she might do it as soon as the claim clears. In my experience, they called me, so the post office will probably just give her a ring. Anyway, good luck! 🙂Maybe it's not actually lost yet.😉
Nancy Johnson63 said:ugh... I'm hoping for the best here. :-)

It’s a risk, sure, but it should work out. Even if it’s a tiny town where everyone knows everyone else's business.😁 Worst case scenario, you just call the local Post Office and ask them to hold the package for pickup. (I mean, why aren't they in the digital directory anyway?) Slightly worse, the package gets sent back to you. Absolute worst case? You get reimbursed for the value if it actually goes missing. Fingers crossed.🙂
(Pro tip: you can always add a little description of what the house looks like at the end of the address. You know how kids are these days, haha.)🙂

USPS is hiking up shipping rates again—sending packages under 2kg will be cheapest $6.00 if you pick it up at the post office, but $6.75 home delivery
is going to sting. I have a feeling this trading thread is going to slowly die off because these costs are just getting ridiculous

http://www.usps.com/UserDocsimages/c...2020110201.pdf

Starting February 1st
PRICING BASED ON VALUE. Package price includes insurance up to $33
For values exceeding $33, there’s a 3% fee (including tax)

Delivery at the post office for up to 2kg $6.00, 2-5kg $6.75, 5-10kg $7.75

I can't even factor in the USPS rates anymore; they jumped by about 30%, which means everything in my collection is basically 30% more expensive too. 👎 How long is this nightmare going to last?👎
Nancy Johnson63 said:hm... I've got a question, maybe someone knows the answer..
I want to send a surprise birthday gift, but there's a catch. I have the last name of the homeowner and the first and last name of the person who should actually receive it (though they aren't officially registered at that address). I also have the street and the city, but I don't have the house number. Is there any way to make this work? I can't get the exact address, and asking them would totally ruin the surprise.. :-) thanks

Just write the name, the street, and leave out the number if you really can't find it—honestly, the mail carrier will probably figure it out. Put the city, and then just add a note in parentheses next to the name saying "for [Name], the tenant" or something similar. Good luck.👍🙂

I've been waiting on an important letter, but since I'm renting, my last name wasn't on the mailbox (it's updated now, though). Where can I actually pick this up? Can I just head to the local USPS branch?

Was it standard mail or certified? Check around the mailboxes—above them, on the shelf below, whatever the setup is at your place. Sometimes our mail carrier just tosses stuff into a random box. 🤷Ask at the post office, or honestly, just ask your neighbors.
$33 The value for a package up to 5kg is $4.25 bucks including tax.

Hmm, let's see what $13 charges... for a package between $267 and 5kg, say via USPS or HP express...🤷

Basically, everyone’s going to pay whatever they want for an average package, which I guess is about $5.00. Honestly, if people want a discount, they should just ask instead of whining or judging. Whatever, people do what they want. Personally, if we're talking about those $33 rates, I'll just cover that extra tax myself.😉
redranger82 said:I've got about 50 small packages to send out—basically just standard letters—and I was wondering if I should be using blue or white envelopes? (I'm guessing white.) Also, can I just print the addresses on my computer and stick them on, or does the USPS require everything to be handwritten?🙂

Thanks for the help!

Yellow. 😁 Actually, who cares about the color? As long as it's standard mail, it doesn't matter. And yeah, you can definitely print labels and stick them on. It's not the 1800s.👍

What’s the deal... maybe someone at her place just rebooted the router while she was still logged in on her browser.🤷

Still nothing? Just shoot me a DM so I can see who we're talking about. If I happen to know Sara and her usual handles, I might actually be able to help you out.🤷
Elizabeth Ortiz said:There’s probably a reason, I’d assume... just give it a few days. You always have to consider that something might have come up, or someone just needs to get stuff done. I really don't think she'd try to pull one over on you, especially since she's been around this forum forever.

I’m with you on that. She's only been on the forum for a month, though. I think someone already mentioned something on the feedback thread, so if you're stressing, maybe just try calling her? Personally, I'd be panicking by now, but whatever.😁

Maybe her laptop died, or her Wi-Fi went out, or some other random thing happened and she's stuck. Who knows where she lives or how long it takes to fix stuff like that.🤷 Just a thought...

Just chill. A week isn't that long, and you can always ask about it on the boards. 👍Hope everything turns out fine.🙂

Oh, wait, just saw this—her last activity was listed as: Today at 7:56 PM.

Good luck!😉
Sophia Newman said:Do I have to pay some kind of shipping fee when I pick it up just because the package was returned?

Also, I have no clue why local USPS branches started switching to those 8-to-3 working hours.

Yeah, you'll probably have to cover the return shipping if you actually want to get your hands on it.
The 8-to-3 thing is pretty standard for most small-town post offices outside the main metro areas or in smaller cities.
fadedcrane36 said:If the box is huge, they’ll definitely find a way to charge extra for the space, right? That’s why I was hoping for a tiny little box—something just big enough to fit everything without getting absolutely fleeced by shipping fees..
The package is about 11 lbs, and the value is $267..thanks for looking into this for me..😉

11 lbs, $267, massive box = roughly $17. smaller box = roughly $10.😉
Thanks, dear.🙂 I actually know all about that, but honestly, she seems way too lazy to even walk from her place to the USPS.😉 I don't know what else to say—it makes zero sense that I'm only supposed to be receiving letters, according to her.🤷
granitesurfer73 said:How do I actually know when a package hits my address? Does the mail carrier leave some kind of slip, or am I supposed to just show up at the USPS office with paperwork or something...

Yeah, usually takes about 3-4 days from shipping. If you aren't home, they'll leave a notice in your mailbox or tucked in your door. Just take that slip and your ID down to the USPS office. Better to go sooner rather than later, unless you want it sent right back to the sender after a few days.
I honestly have no clue, considering I already paid him back on Thursday. 😕 Besides, what am I even supposed to use as an excuse if they've already scrapped it?
Karen Morales47 said:I have a question about this...
When someone sends me a COD shipment... and they clearly write out the item price plus shipping right there on the label...

why am I being hit with an extra charge of like $2.75 bucks or whatever???

It might be a 3.66% fee applied to the total, I think. Or maybe just a convenience fee for the UPS guy actually showing up at your door with the box.🤷
Olivia Thompson34 said:Hey there. This might be a pretty dumb question, but I'm not sure... 🤷 I often send cash in envelopes, so I was wondering how I can make sure the mail service actually pays me back if it gets lost. It's a decent amount of money, and there isn't really any other way to pay . Should I be sending it as insured mail?

The bolded part—why?😕

Yeah, if you send it as a package or via registered/insured mail, they'll refund the declared value. But that only works if it actually goes missing in transit. If someone intercepts it after it's supposedly "delivered," you're out of luck.👎
I got a call from them just a few days after, so honestly, my only advice is don't sit around waiting. Just head down to the post office and get that certified mail sent.🤷
