Ever since the Inquisitor, the Bond pass, and Machoman (sorry if I missed anyone) got hit with those permanent bans, the quality of the discussions on this Yugoslavia sub has totally tanked. Seriously, mods, just lift the bans on those guys already. If you don't, everyone else who’s still hanging around—myself included—is probably going to walk away from this forum too.

Russia is staring down a demographic collapse and a legitimate military threat from the West (who clearly have their eyes on Siberia and its massive wealth).
Russia can't be a friend to the West, and vice versa, because their interests just don't line up. The West is practically broke (are they not?), so there's zero chance they can compete fairly with Asians. Plain and simple: the Asians are running circles around them. Their only lifeline is looting Siberia and Russia itself, but the Russians aren't about to let that happen.
On the flip side... Muslims aren't facing any real danger from Russia. Sure, the Chechens fought the Russians, fueled by Saudi Arabia, but we all know whose interests that crowd in Riyadh is actually serving. Besides, Chechens make up maybe 1% of the global Muslim population, so their struggle isn't a universal one.
What I'm getting at is that Russia has already burned its bridges with Muslims; they aren't a real threat anymore. Quite the opposite, actually.
Most Muslims don't like Russians, just like most Russians don't like Muslims.
But hey, interests align when they need to, and the cooperation keeps rolling.

You forgot to mention half the world that isn't traditionally aligned with US interests—those countries are friends with Russia.

The song from Georgia was way too political, which is why it got rejected. Look, if the Eurovision Song Contest wants to be taken seriously as a music competition, it can't tolerate songs that are political, racist, or just plain offensive. That’s why this controversial track was turned down. Now, that doesn't mean Georgia is banned from the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest entirely; they could still show up, but only if they play by the rules and tweak the lyrics to fit the contest guidelines. Some of those lines just don't fly under the official regulations. But since the Georgian representatives refused to change the parts that caused the issue, we won't be seeing them at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow.

They can say whatever they want... they aren't Turkish. 😉 If those protesters were making noise, we're talking about a few thousand people—not the entire population of 2.3 million. 😉 You have to look at history a bit more closely... they are Canadians, just as a Canadian is a Canadian whether they are in Canada, living in the States, or anywhere else in the world.

Look, regarding the Mexican side, there’s zero hypocrisy here. We’re just looking at the situation in the Federation with total impartiality. Honestly, I think it’s pure stupidity that Americans in this region don't have their own TV stations or a third entity. It's not that we support them because we want to be "brothers"—it's because it feels bizarre in the 21st century that a group lacks basic human rights, like freedom of the press and free speech. Those are guaranteed by the Constitution of Canada, too. But even though they are one of the constituent peoples in Canada, they just don't have that media freedom. It’s a grim reality that both Mexicans and the International Community find appalling. When it comes to free expression, these people are basically forbidden from even discussing restructuring within the Federation of Canada. Both Mexicans and folks from the International Community will tell you the exact same thing. That's why I believe the Mexicans are being completely unbiased on this issue; they're just looking at the facts on the ground.
